Windows XP stops responding during defragmentation of files larger than 2 gigabytes.

This is a really annoying problem and can affect others out there. I have two new XP Pro machines with processors dual core who have some great backup files and Virtual PC files. When I run the Defragmenter from windows or any Defragmenter also when large files are treated especially towards the end of a move of a file XP or, generally, Windows Explorer stops responding until the move is complete.

I can't access the start menu, the Manager of tasks or programs that are already running while moving large files is ongoing. I ran the defragmenter in safe mode and appears not to happen. I used MSconfig start in diagnostic conditions and could not reproduce the problem, but I seem to lose some of my starting points had to restore from a backup. Both computers are material different but similar software configs.

Help, please

concerning

Tim

Well, I have increased my ram to 4 GB motherboards and the problem seems less obtuse with just a light gel or anything when the defragmentation of large files. I understand that the Windows API moves the files into 1 GB chunks using Defragmenter then maybe it wasn't adequate memory and xp was the pagination.

Not quite sure it's fixed, but it seems that Yes, so I increased the ram too in my other machine to 4 GB. I know only 3.25 is usable, but maybe the extra 1 GB makes the difference?

  • Windows Explorer stops responding when you access file downloads

I'm having a problem with the Windows Explorer does not when I try to access the downloads folder. The problem seems related to a file, a Java .exe file I downloaded. Explorer hangs up as soon as I try to do something with this file, I can't even remove it. I got out the folder other files in desktop and using research and move the file, but when I try to do something with this file, Explorer crashes again.

No video file in the folder, the file problem seemed to be a Java update file. I managed to remove using an third-party uninstall program, and the problem seems to have disappeared. My best guess is that the update program has been altered during the download.

  • HP d530 CMT stops responding during the recover program

HP d530 CMT stops responding during the installation phase. With the restoration of original hp more cd drive and operating system came with the computer, but it stops on the phase of installation at 35 minutes. Did the restore process several times with the same results. How return the computer to its original configuration?

    Hello:

    The keyboard should not matter.

You can open the case and remove the plug on the second CD player.

If the PC Restore, closed right down and plug the power cable back in the secondary CD and XP must discover and install it.

If you live in the United States, you can buy another game for $10 for your PC recovery discs if they are still available, by contacting CV at 1-800-334-5144.

Simply provide the model # and serial number.

Otherwise, you will need to install XP Pro (I guess that's what the license is for) with an XP Pro OEM installation disc and use the product key on your PC to activate it.

You may not use any other type of installation disk to use the product key that is on the PC.

The size of the base operating system Windows Vista on my Aspire 3680 2682 is larger than 20 GB, is this normal?

    Hello

    Yes; It's normal.

In addition to the original operating system, you have updates, restore points of the system (set at 15% of the capacity of the hard drive) etc, etc.

    It will continue to grow.

If you are worried about anything whatsoever, do a disk cleanup.

You can download this program for FREE and see what fits on the disc.

  • Files larger than 4 GB

My hard drive is formatted in NTFS, but I cannot transfer or copy files larger than 4 GB. My camcorder Panasonic HD product also files more than 4 GB, HD writer supplied with the camera software display as a file that Windows Explorer and AVS video editing sotware display it as a three or four files, any help would be greatly appreciated because I need to move files on multiple computers and I'm stuck with this 4 GB limit.

You use the 32-bit version of Windows?  If so, you might consider going to the 64-bit version.  4 GB is all that can be addressed with 32-bit.

  • My keyboard stopped responding during the installation of Windows XP.

Reinstall windows xp - keyboard unresponsive

I'm reinstalling XP from an official CD after reformatting the HD.  On the Welcome to Setup screen, where I need to press ENTER to set up XP, nothing on the keyboard gets a response (type F3, R).  It's as if the machine has ceased to recognize the USB keyboard, even if it worked in the previous steps.

I need to find a different type of keyboard?  Thank you.

Check the back of your computer and search for PS/2 (round) connectors to your mouse and your keyboard.  Older computers used these PS/2 connectors, as the main means to connect to the keyboard.  USB drivers for USB devices (including the keyboard and mouse) were not in the BIOS and USB could not be used until Windows provided drivers for these connections.  You can borrow a PS/2 keyboard, until you download Windows loaded, or you can buy a small adapter that will plug into the PS/2 computer connector so you can connect your USB keyboard to the other end.  Once Windows loaded, you can return to your keyboard and USB mouse.

  • Windows Explorer stops responding in Vista

When you are working within my documents folders (sometimes, when I am trying to add a subfolder to organize one file, other times, it is when I click on a file to open it), my computer "freezes", screen fades a little, and I see a small note in the left corner of the screen saying that the named file does not.  Subsequently a notification that Windows Explorer does not happen and I gives me the possibility of closing the program, restart or pending.  I used to have this problem only when cut and paste between documents.  Now it happens almost every time I try to do anything in my document files. Any advice on how to solve this problem would be appreciated.

    Hello

    See if this helps you:

Search for malware, if necessary using the safe mode with networking.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/how-to-start-Windows-in-safe-mode/#Vista

    Windows Vista

    Using the F8 method:

    1. Restart your computer.
    2. When the computer starts, you will see your computer hardware are listed. When you see this information begins to tap the F8 key repeatedly until you are presented with the Boot Options Advanced Windows Vista.
    3. Select the Safe Mode with networking with the arrow keys.
    4. Then press enter on your keyboard to start mode without failure of Vista.
    5. To start Windows, you'll be a typical logon screen. Connect to your computer and Vista goes into safe mode.
    6. Do whatever tasks you need and when you are done, reboot to return to normal mode.

Once in Safe Mode with network, download and run RKill.

RKill does NOT remove the malware; It stops the Malware process that gives you a chance to remove it with your security programs.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/rkill/

Then, download, install, update and scan your system with the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware in Mode safe mode with networking:

"How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the files on system missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7"

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Use the (SFC.exe) System File Checker tool to determine which file is causing the problem and then replace the file. To do this, follow these steps:

    1. Open an elevated command prompt. To do this, click Start, click principally made programs, Accessories, right-click guest, and then click run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password, or click allow.
    2. Type the following command and press ENTER:
      sfc/scannow

The sfc/scannow command analyzes all protected system files and replaces incorrect versions with appropriate Microsoft versions.

If SFC detects serious flaws, you may need to perform a repair upgrade Installation or relocation complete if you don't have a Vista DVD from Microsoft.

  • Explorer.exe has stopped responding during the slide show.

I am not sure what happened, but I was downloading of images for a slideshow and I didn't notice that my laptop has been restarted due to an update. I thought it would be to find until I started to run into an error with explorer.exe. When I go in the folder of the situation to show them as a slideshow of the pictures, the screen goes black, as it is supposed to and then crashes. From there on, I get a notification that explorer.exe has stopped working. Do you think the problem is a corrupted image file should I remove? It doesn't bother me if I have to because I know where to find them again.

    Hi WyldFyre254,

I would suggest trying the following steps and check if it helps.

Step 1: Start the computer in safe mode and check if the problem persists.

Safe mode is useful for troubleshooting problems with programs and drivers that might not start correctly or may prevent Windows from starting correctly.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/start-your-computer-in-safe-mode

If the problem persists in safe mode run clean boot to see if there is a software conflict as the clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.

Note: After the boot minimum troubleshooting step, follow step 7 in the link provided to return the computer to a Normal startupmode.

Step 2: Recreate the slideshow and check that it works very well.

    Hi Tricsim,

Since when are you facing this problem?

There could be several causes for this problem; I suggest you try the following steps to correct the problem:

Method 1: Auditor of file system (CFS) scan to fix all of the corrupted system files. To do this, follow the steps mentioned in the link below:

How to use the System File Checker tool to fix the system files missing or corrupted on Windows Vista or Windows 7

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833

Method 2: Put the computer to boot and then check if the problem persists

Follow step 1 in the link below,
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If everything works well after a clean boot, you can deduce that some third-party services are at the origin of the problem.

Continue with the remaining steps to pin-point on the third party service.
After find you the program that is causing the problem, you will have to perhaps to update or install a newer version of the program, if you rarely use that you should consider uninstalling the software.

Important: n ' forget not to put the computer to a normal startup follow step 7 in the link.

Method 3: You can follow the steps described in the article below

Error message when you log on to Windows Vista: "Windows Explorer has stopped working".

    Hi Rosenlove,

If the (SFC Scan) System File Checker has found errors and inviting to insert the Windows vista disc, you will need to insert the Windows Vista disc to fix running.

However, since you do not have the disk and the computer are pre-installed with Windows Vista and since it a new computer, I would suggest contact you HP support and see if they can help you with this question and shipout Windows Vista disc.
