  I had previously asr has been successfully run on the same configuration but have decided to update the recovery data. I tried to restart the asr by clicking Start, all programs, accessories, system, backup tools. The Backup Wizard appears and I clicked on Advanced Mode. Then followed the backup utility page, I clicked on the ASR Wizard. The next page has been the preparation of Recovery Wizard, I clicked next and was presented with the option of backup destination and, after finishing the backup destination, I clicked Next. My page was last option; End of the ASR Wizard, I clicked Finish. Backup went into his usual preamble but almost instantly a warning box came up with the message "files for the recovery diskette can not be created." I am running xp pro sp3 as I had been for the creation of the previously successful GDR.

  I also tried using the Backup Wizard and I clicked on backup all information on this computer (this option automatically provides ASR) and followed the instructions of the wizard through to the end and the failure has been the same.

  I found a solution to my problem of ASR. If I was not able to create an asr backup, I was still able to run Ntbackup. I've saved my OS drive then ran repair with the XP Professional installation cd. Backup ASR works now.

  OK, I had to reinstall all them that updates the Knowledge Base Microsoft and also all the Service Packs. One or two of the plug-and-play applications were a bit annoying, but be as I have all the installation cd, other than being tedious, have all been re-installed and the system is now as good as new.

• PC will not boot or start the recovery console

  My friend tried to jailbreak his ipod. Now his PC will not boot the OS. It will go to the screen with the options to choose each time you start upward into the safe, normally last good known etc..   I would like to use the repair feature in Windows XP Professional Recovery Console when starting Onboard or USB CD-ROM drive.  My keyboard works very well to enable F12 and select boot device.  Windows Setup starts and then loads bunch of pilots - looking... but then my keyboard won't work for select 'R' to start the Recovery Console repair.  All this started because I uninstalled a Lexmark printer and it seems that the driver Lexmark LXBTtime.dll lack now but still wants Windows to start.   So now Config\System will not load.  I saw some threads in this forum recommend that my wireless keyboard does not work - so I borrowed a USB wired keyboard - but still the same problem.  Cannot select 'R' - the keyboard light turns off and of course not recognised by Windows Setup.  Any ideas or suggestions?  In addition to the purchase of a MAC (it was my suggestion of neighbors :-)   Thanks for the review!

  I have to fix the MBR and normally you can do this via the recovery XP and then Console "fixmbr". As you may know Toshiba Recovery DVD know only in a sense - the way hard "format hdd or first partition".

  * How can I fix the MBR on the standard MBR MS when no original XP installation disk/DVD is usable - Toshiba Recovery DVD are available
  tried the XP CD from my office... but you know... it doesn´t work.

  Additional information:
  I deleted my HARD disk partition table and cannot access the first partition to a partition that would be very useful that I could try to recover this partition later - but I can't. My A200 SatPro also comes without floppy disk but can boot from USB.

  Yes, the thing with the recovery console fixmbr should do the trick, and I am a bit surprised that your XP from your other computer disk does not work.

  You are not able to boot from it, or what is the exact problem? Because you will not be able to repair with your recovery disk.
  Advise you to try another original XP disc, may borrow from a friend and try again. You may need to change the boot priority to operate.
