Wired or wireless - adding a Second router

I'm so completely confused and need a little guidance. For these past years, I have been using a LinkSys BEFSR41 EtherFast Cable/DSL router. It was my router reliable wired . I have a few computers in another room (home network), I have connected to the router via a hub 24-port Linksys (EFAH24). The hub died this weekend - the power supply is shot.

A good friend gave me the WRT160N router so that I could use it as a hub. One of the problems is that I can not enter the configuration for the wireless router screen because it has the same address as the router wired origin.

Basically, I try to use the mannequin on the wireless router - I rarely, if ever, need wireless; but it was free and a nice Starter unit. So, I try to understand how to use two routers, but use a wireless as a fictional hub. All I'm doing is to restore my previous network topography.

Any help?

Your wired router settings remain the same. All you need to configure is the wireless router. To set it up, unplug the network and the only thing to which it is the computer. Here is the procedure. Follow the configuration of the LAN - LAN connection.

  • Adding a Second router to my LAN

I have 4 devices on my network-

    1 surfboard cable modem

    2. router WRT160N wireless - 192.168.1.1

    3 Linksys 10 / 100 5 port switch wired

    4 WRT160Nv3 - 192.168.1.2

    My current setup is-

    1. first router modem. (WAN PORT)

2 port LAN router for UPLINK port on switch

The switch is located on the first floor, the router is down.  The router's wifi fails on the floor, so I bought another WRT160Nv3

How can I add this to my installation?  I tried hanging the new router direct to a PC and configure it so that it is NOT a DHCP server and last slot the IP 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.2 and then sign a LAN switch port in a new router LAN port and the pc the new router cable.

In the above configuration, NOTHING after the switch works.  I can't internet while the switch is wired to the router second on any computer of attatched to the switch.  Internet wifi won't get (from second router)

Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I'm not trying to make a repeat using the same SSID, just try adding an access point on my current setup.

Everything worked fine with 1 Router DHCP and then switch to the floor, but no wifi up there.

I made myself, solved by removing the switch from the configuration.  I'm sure that I could add it back in after the 2nd router, but for some reason, it wouldn't work with her inbetween the two routers.

  • Connection with a switch EZXS55W or a second router WRT54G to my router network WTR300N home?

I have a home office in my basement with my computer connected to a lan of my WRT300N router that is set up on the first floor and networking with three additional computers to the floor as well. I want to add 2 additional computers in my basement and wireless is not a good set upward because the signal strength is very low. I have great reception on the floor and even on the second floor where my children are connected from their rooms. My question is: I have an older WRT54G Router I use is more and want to know if I can connect it to my WRT300N using the lan line ran down in the basement which is connected to one of the Ethernet ports of the WRT300N? If so, how the connection and set up the second router? Also, I can use Ethernet cables to connect my three computers to the second router or what I need to use the wireless of the second router? I was looking at the switch EZXS55W at the Wal-Mart local and thought that was my answer, but after a search through all the answers of the basis of knowledge here, I'm confused on the approach to take and which one would be the best game for me. Here, any help would be great!

With the EZX you extended your wired LAN. You can still use the WRT54G to add another point for other cable ports and wireless access. Just do these 4 steps as stated in my previous post.

You can connect the WRT54G the WRT300N or the EZX. Basically, it's all the same. You don't have to turn off the switch before you connect a device.

If you want to use the additional wireless WRT54G, you can try to set up a roaming wireless network. Implement the WRT with identical settings as on the WRT300N wireless, i.e. identical SSID and wireless security the same (preferably WPA2) personal with a good password. Do not turn off the SSID broadcast on either WRT. Only the allocation of channels should be different at a time to avoid any interference. Now the devices should be able to move from one access point to another without losing the network connection.

However, if you perform this configuration test carefully. I don't know how it works if you have a N Router and a G. If this does not work, use different SSID on both. You can then choose which SSID to connect to on the client.

  • Slow speeds of WIRED with N750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router

This question is about speed WIRED versus wireless speeds.

This router is used in a situation of Home Office. This office at home connection cable Internet is 500 MB. When one of our computers connects directly to the cable modem we always get 500 MB download speeds. Yet when we connect to this router, these speeds fall into two (on average).

Often, indeed, speeds will drop equal to or less than 100 MB. Yet whenever we unplug the router and plug directly into the cable modem we return up to 500 MB.

    Suggestions?

Unfortunately, the LAN ports cannot be fixed by firmware.

Therefore, it is time to get a new router.

    Hi @HVE,

Thanks for the update and I'm happy that you have the wireless works again. As you did a recovery to Windows 7 and I suggest that in one of my posts, would you consider marking this post as "acceptable Solution" to help other members and visitors to what has worked for you and what could help them. I will conclude the matter resolved as you suggested.

Thanks again to become a member of the forum and hope that you find it informative and interesting.

  • E4200V1 disconnects - wired and wireless

I have random disconnects, but it is not only wireless, it's the trendy too.  I updated the firmware and I still have questions.  the 4200 worked fine for 3 years, and all of a sudden it just starts dropping across the network at random.

    Ideas?

    Thank you - kxlara

Hi kxlara. Intermittent connection for wired and wireless is usually caused by a bad firmware. You updated the firmware version of the router yourself? Did you do a hard reset of the device as soon as you have made with the upgrade process? I suggest that you do. To do the correct reset, simply press the reset button on the router for 30 seconds while the unit is turned on. Release the button and unplug the unit. Reinstall the settings from scratch.  Hope that helps.

  • Use the second router to extend the network to Time Capsule

I have a v7.6.7 running Time Capsule 1 TB and older airport. I'm hoping to add a second router in a new location, and I use an ethernet cable from the TC at the new router (TP Link Archer C5), updated to the latest version of the firmware. The IP address of the TC is 192.168.1.1.

I have set up my router C5 as follows: allocation of IP 192.168.1.199, value DHCP = off, and I connect a cable between the TC ports and port WAN (not Internet) available on the C5. In the C5 wireless settings, I tried both using the TC SSID and pw and creating a new SSID and pw. In both cases, the network will work for a short time, but eventually the entire network, including the TC, stops working. I made no changes to the parameters of the TC on any trial.

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router? If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Is it possible to use a TC and a router not Apple on the same network? If so, what are the right settings for the TC and the secondary router?

Yes. That would be the basis of a network of mobile type.

The key for a roaming network parameters are:

    • The 'primary' router must be configured as a router. In other words, it must have active NAT and DHCP services.
    • All other routers used in a network of roaming must be reconfigured as a bridge.
    • All routers must broadcast a Wi - Fi network that uses the same network (SSID, aka) name, and the type of wireless security, and the password.
    • All routers must be interconnected by Ethernet. To provide Powerline adapters using an Ethernet connectivity should also work.

If not, is it better to have the not Apple as main router and add the TC to the network created by the non-Apple router?

Should not really which is the main in the roaming network.

I think at this point, your current circuit line. To check that, I would suggest that you consider to bring back the router C5 in the same room as you have the TC. Then connect it directly to one of the LAN of the TC ports. Complete the entire upward to a mobile network and test it. If everything works, bring back the C5 in the desired location, and then try again.

If it fails, then the circuit line will be tested to check that it provides a solid 'Ethernet' connection between the adapters.

  • Want 5660 printer: 5660 envy may be wired and wireless?

    Hello

I have a new Evny 5660 all-in-one printer and I was wondering if I can configure it to be wired and wireless. I inow have it configured to be wireless for two computers - it connects to my network and both computers can access. However, I was wondering if there was a way to add also a USB connection on my desktop so there is work computer to the printer when the wireless is not enabled. I don't always have the wireless and then I can not print from this computer, so it would be nice to have the opportunity to do both, if there is a way to do it.

When you first install the printer, he used huge amounts of my posting of monthly wireless data, so I disabled (I hope) all updates and order options of connection so that it uses ONLY the wireless for my LAN connection - not to go out on the internet and download things by himself.

For this reason I don't use it a lot or leave the wireless for more than the time required to print everything I print, and then I have to disable the wireless because I am not convinced that it it not again try to use a huge amount of data on its own. So the question on wireless and wired. I do not actually print a large part of my laptop and that you do not have the wireless on most of the time if she could also be connected via USB to my desktop computer.

    Thank you!

OK - as I thought, the manual does not make the printer wireless and wired. It tells how to pass Wireless USB, but not the other way around and also provides no information on the type of USB cable not required.

In the section "Installation and printer software" on the computer itself, it only gives the option to add a new printer, or to change the wireless settings - nothing about adding a wired USB connection.

Any help on how to do this very appreciated!

    AMT

You need a USB cable from the printer.  Not just a USB cable standard.   Like this.

    http://www.Amazon.com/AmazonBasics-USB-2-0-cable--male/DP/B00BCWALHM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&QID=1440363469&SR=8-1&keywords=printer+USB+cable

You should just be able to run the installer and follow the prompts to connect the USB cable and it should work.

  • Wired and wireless at the same time

Printer: hp photosmart 6520; operating system: win7; router: linksys

When I arrived to this printer, I have used the USB connection and everything was fine. Then I changed to wireless mainly to use eprint.

This morning, I decided to go back to the wired USB connection - has been able to accomplish it, but with considerable difficulties - and now I have 2 printers in the folder of my printer (photosmart HP 6520 and photosmart hp 6520 (network).)

My question is: can I get the printer to function as both wired and wireless? If so, how?

    Hello

They are LOGICAL printers to separate the physical connections.  Before, you have made a conversion of USB-wireless (has removed the printer), but now you have TWO connections. Yes, we can use both connections at the same time, but when you send a print job to print your computer need to know how which.

    Kind regards.

  • Add WRT54G: second router / access point, unable to get to the outside network.

    Here is the prob:

We just got cable internet the other day and the cable operator insisted on using their v1000 Belkin F5D7234-4 instead of my WRT54G V8. So I thought I'd use the WRT54G as a second router/AP (without wireless/LAN/WAN). I was eager to do this by running an ethernet in the WAN on the WRT54G port and plug it into the port of the client on the Belkin, place the wrt - 54 G at the other end of the House and have the WRT54G broadcasting the same SSID and require authentication even as the Belkin and use the Belkin to Linksys Wireless Bridge. In this way, it will extend my wireless network and all computers can access the internet and the other (wireline customers will keep at wire-speed, wireless is not authicate to two different networks.)

I can't get the Linksys network based able to see all the other computers outside the WRT - 54 G, even for wireless clients. On the side of things Belkin network, I can't ping the router even if she pulls a DHCP in the Belkin address. All customers the Belkin side can meet and thin internet. I've fiddled with the WRT54-g for almost an entire weekend now with no result. The WRT54G can see the other router as a DNS as well as external DNS providers, but none of the client computers can. Basically, I'm wanting to extend the network of Belkin 4 as most cable customers and fill a few dead wireless, and make the visible computer on the same network of suggestions?

    Parameters of WRT - 54G:

    Automatic configuration - DHCP

    Same domain name like Belkin
IP router set a tire to the DHCP server

    DHCPserver OFF

    Mode of operation: router

    Safe are disabled.

Wireless SSID is the same as Belkin

Wireless channel is the same as belkin.

Method and auth. key is the same as belkin.

    Belkin:

    DHCP is on.

    15 IP addresses available.

Wireless gateway is on with the WRT54G Wireless MAC address information.

    Ethernet cords are connected.

I played with static routes for hours, tried the option routing dynamic, even tried DMZing of the WRT54G intellectual property in the belkin and still unable to connect to the internet. Tried the Belkin MAC address cloning. Nothing seems to work. When I plug the WRT - 54G directly in my digital/Modem/phone cable box, I get internet and everything. I'm at the point of throwing same DD - WRT on it.

But beyond connection "wireless" I discovered really does not work if well (drops random wireless speeds seize up) with two different pieces of equipment running two different firmwares. So the thing connecting wireless set was out the window.

I however knew what I had to do Linksys firmware:

    1.) DHCP clients forward.

    Customers of Belkin - network

    Linksys customers - network B

The dhcp pool was not get transferred to the client computers. That is the 1-2 on network computer had XXX. XXX.100 - 102 for 3-4 computers on network B was YYY. YYY. YYY statically set by Windows. Even after changing to a static address on the network A dhcp scope I could still connect to the internet or to one of the computers on the network.

The static routing table seemed not lead me anywhere either, and I've tried dozens of configurations.

The way I got it Setup is with the customer enthernet of the Belkin ROUTER to THE Internet on the Linksys WRT54G port 1-4. Maybe I should have plugged the ethernet on the client side of 4 ports Linksys?

Anyway DD - WRT redirect DCHP feature was what I need.

Regarding the scenario wireless two routers have the same encryption method and key but different channels and ssid. Who, with DD - WRT for some reason when I jump on the wireless-B, Vista will be ID it as network A (B).

I hope that it has not violated anything except the guarantee which was anyway. The reason for which I needed for my network up this way is because I do a lot of work using VM (of various operating systems), is simply easier to have two separate semi networks. (to different physical locations in the House)

  • Wired or wireless connection. Was not identified until the restoration of the system. Windows Vista Ultimate

I am currently on my laptop. I have my Windows Vista Home Premium desktop connected with a wire to the internet, and there is currently no link. I can't even connect wirelessly, and yet my laptop is fine with both. It was not identified until I restored the a few days before, and now he has no connection whatsoever. Type of emergency because my business is at a standstill right now because of this.  Edit: Where you plug your cable internet on your computer, it normally has a flashing beside him, but it currently isn't. I can plug the wire into my laptop and it works fine, but not with the office. So I know this isn't a problem of modem/router, it's a computer problem.

    Hello

Please follow the steps mentioned below and get back to us with the results.

Method 1: Wi - Fi and in Windows network connection issues.

In the case where the flash light does not appear, this could be a problem with the wire or the port network, so you can consider contacting the ISP (Internet Service Provider) to get help.

    I hope that helps!

  • WRT310N V2 - unable to connect to the wired LAN, wireless is OK

I know that there are similar problems posted everywhere, but I can't seem to find the right solution. My WiFi works fine but cable did not see the router or on the internet. A few details:

I can communicate between hosts and wireless on the router.

The router assigns the IP both wired and wireless.

The wired connection works on the laptop and wireless works on it, too.

Wired does not work on the desktop, there is no wireless capability.

Cable cannot reach 196.168.1.1, wireless can.

I have updated the firmware of the router.

I installed the latest drivers for the NIC.

The office (cable) connects to the internet via cable modem, without going through the router.

I have no firewall active or other security features.

Same results with Firefox, IE, and Casimir FTP.

I turned off, turned on, rebooted, changed the ports and everything else I can think.

Here are the details of the ipconfig command:

  • Automatically use the wired on wireless LAN connection when using the docking station

    Hey guys!

I use the my T500 with the Advanced Mini Dock @TheDude recommended in this thread: http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/T400-T500-and-newer-T-series/T500-Recommended-Compatible-Docking-Station...

I had almost a month now, and whenever I anchor my laptop I have to pass the connection wireless switch off hard or using FN + F5 and extinguish this particular radio.

Is it possible to have the computer automatically choose the wired connection when it is available, otherwise use the wireless radio?

    I use Windows 7 Prof 64 bit.

    Thank you

    c1p0

ThinkVantage Access Connections (AC) can be configured to do this. Change your location profile and change the order of the adapter associated with this place, for example, order first as Wired and Wireless second.

When I am connected Wired and I pull the Ethernet cable, AC will switch to using wireless automatically. When I put the Ethernet back in, it starts automatically by using the wired and wireless don't report limited or no connectivity (which means that the switch has occurred). You will have to perhaps set up wireless in AC power options, i.e. disable radio when not in use (I did not sentence again).

This could be similar to a docking station solution. Mine is without docking station; When I'm at the office and go to a meeting, I pull the wire and have continuity.

Ideally, the CA should provide a solution. But it may take some fiddling.

  • Equium A100-147: can I use an external mouse wired or wireless

Hi just bought an A100-147, anyone knows if I can use an EXTERNAL MOUSE wired or wireless

    Hi Peter,.

You should, as far as I know, be able to use two types of mouse; I know that many people find it more natural and easier than the mouse pad integrated, but that is purely a personal preference.

A wired mouse plug directly into a USB port or a round PS/2 port, check the ports that you have before you buy anything, but you should have no problem with USB.

Use of wireless mouse a small receiver which plugs into a USB port and would be normally equipped with software to run it.

    I hope this helps.

  • Satellite P300-16 t - adding a second drive HARD-success!

I have added a second hard drive today for my Toshiba P300-16 t.

I realized that I had a Toshiba SATA drive in a USB disk device that would spare - 250 gb.

I improvised by removing the feet spread on the cover of the second cage to hard disk using a sharp knife. I put the Bank in place ensuring maximum safety. I also used a heat-resistant material (say what) to secure the drive up as readers are rarer than hen's teeth. I made sure that the reader also had room to breathe. The cover was then released and I turned on my computer and it found the new HDD, the installed drivers at home but hey presto! Another 250 GB to play with.

Now, I did it is because I call four FSA in the United Kingdom but they weren't any help by providing a cage for the second disc.
Two said they only deal with businesses and not individuals.
Others have said that they only provide power cables and batteries!
Hope that my Tosh never goes down and I must use their services...

Anyway, I don't recommend anyone do what I just - it is possible if you are a bit adventurous...

    Have you used the Hotglue?

Surely, you can get the FSA HARD drive media. Unless there is a global shortage on cradles P300: p
