Wireless extension

Netgear wireless adapter worked for several weeks, but, seeing at night, wireless, adapter is turned off & error message on PC says windows cannot connect to the adapter. adapter appears on PC wireless, connections as a post have tried reboot, reset, unplug FTEs etc. any ideas?

Call the netgear for product support.

Hi, I just want to know if I can use old router wrt54 GS as a wireless extension? If possible, pls, tell how. Ad in advance thank you appreciate it. good day to all

    Hi tuts69!

Welcome to Cisco Home Community Forums!

Unfortunately, it is not possible to extend the networks with the WRT54GS wireless since it does not have the connection ability. However, you can run a cable to him and set it as an access point. Here's how:

Nesting of a Linksys router to another router

    I hope this helps.

  • Time Capsule of wireless extension

I just moved my Time Capsule in a House that had already set up a network of airports, so I need is no longer the network wireless set up on the TC. I don't have, however, still access the hard drive and I also need an ethernet port for a wired elsewhere in the House, so I spent in Extender mode and connected to the other airport network. I get no network via the ethernet port connectivity, and the TC light is orange and blinking slowly. Since he is no longer broadcast a wifi network, I can not access it via Airport utility to make changes. Any suggestions?

so, I spent it mode extension

The TC may 'extend' either by connecting to an existing wireless network signal, created by another Apple router... or... it can "extend" connecting using Ethernet to another router from Apple.

I'm guessing that you meant that you tried to configure the TC to extend the signal from the 'main' Apple router wireless, but it would be useful that you could confirm that.

No matter if you have configured the TC to extend wireless using or extend via an Ethernet connection, it would be a signal with the same name as the 'main' Apple router wireless, so I don't understand why that you cannot connect to the TC and check certain settings.

Unfortunately, as the Ethernet on the TC ports do not work, the option of trying to connect a Mac directly on the TC in this way in order to verify certain parameters will not be available.

My advice would be to start over on the TC and reset it to default and then put settings in place again.  Will not remove or modify any data on the hard drive TC... it will only reset network settings so that the TC can be reconfigured again to expand the network.

Here, I assume that the wireless network is provided by another router from Apple. It would be useful to know what model of the airport router, you will need to confirm that everything will work when you reconfigure the TC.

"Assistant" Installation Apple will implement the TC for you quickly easily, then that would be the way forward in this regard. Let us know if you need some tips on using the "Wizard".

  • By current wireless extension line? WAP54G or something better?

I have a WRT54G Router and I also use equipment Linksys powerline (PLE300 and PLS300 units).  Cpl equipment works fine.  We have cable modem and through a connection wired router or connection powerline ethernet, I get 20 download speeds to 25 Mbit/s.  On a nearby wireless base reasonably the main router, I can get level 18 Mbit/s download speeds.  Now I'm expanding the signal wireless in the whole of my house in general.  The main router is in a corner of the House.  I tried the Linksys Extender products with limited success - gears seem slow and there seems to be a conflict between the Extender and my Apple computers.  Apart from that, I tried a WAP54g implemented as a 'Repeater' to improve my streams wireless.  I got set up correctly I think and it is just plugged into the wall upstairs (only power) without ethernet connection.  With this configuration, I get download speeds of 5 to 10 Mbps, which is OK, but nothing more.  Is this typical of experience significantly more low speed?  My question is - is there a better way to increase the diffusion of my wireless signal?  Is there a way to hard wire the WAP54g ethernet cable in the system by current carrier to somehow get the benefit of high speed that I am experiencing through the Powerline?  Is there another device or configuration that would best work to increase broadcasting wireless in my house?  THX.

Topic 1: Yes. 192.168.1.246 would be nice. No further complications.

Re 2: Use WPA2 with AES encryption security staff and a strong password. APs are on different channels.

Re 3: It can slow down a bit. Depends on the speed of the APs and the speed of the computer cards / wireless.

  • AirPort Extreme AirPort Extreme extension causes a loss of the internet

I extend an existing AirPort Extreme of 5th generation (a year or so old) with a new one. When I connect a new one for the network and power, airport utility sees the two airports and asks me if I want to extend the existing one. I clicked on extend and every thing seems to be well - within the parameters, he said that the new airport will extend the existing wireless network. Unfortunately this seemed to cause my modem to lose its connection to the Internet. I have reset the modem a few times, but it wasn't until I disconnected and "forgot" to the new base station that I was able to retrieve internet. Previously, I had an airport model more old where I was trying to find a new one, but it had its own wireless network, which is kind of a pain. I would really like to have just a single network for both airports.  Is this possible or do I. To keep them separate?

Thank you for any help or advice.

If you spread by wireless, you can't have the extreme new plugged in by ethernet.

If you do not want to extend wired you don't use wireless extension... you use create a wireless network with the same SSID (name Apple Wireless speaks) and the same password.

    Please give us more information.

What is the brand and model of the main modem?

Is this also a router? How the most extreme main airport is connected to the network?

This mode is in there... router or gateway?

Please take a few screenshots of the existing configuration using airport utility to show how the current airport is the installation program. We can then tell you the right way to connect the new airport.

Just to be clear is the New Extreme a nine Gen6... or you want to say you have an another Gen5. The Gen6 is now more than 3 years on the market... No gen5 were therefore sold for 3 years.

    Are mix you models?

  • Scope of the wireless connection for remote access to TimeCapsule

I use my TimeCapsule as long wireless rather than "create a wireless network, as my ISP does not allow for the time capsule to use as my router.

I post this question because I would like to access my TimeCapsule remotely and the hard drive connected to it.

Now I'm Back to Mac enabled on TimeCapsule and what I believe is the appropriate port forwarded port to allow a connection outbound to it, but cannot be accessed remotely to the TimeCapsule. Any ideas?

    Two problems here:

    (1) the "extend a wireless network" is a defining Apple owner who is only used if the Capsule is wireless extension of the network from another router from Apple. It is not compatible with the wireless to a 3rd party router.

This parameter must be "create a wireless network" using the same wireless network name and the password of the wireless network FIOS with time Capsule of the FIOS router by a permanent connection, cable connection through an Ethernet cable.

    (2) the time Capsule is configured to act as a router, when it should be configured to act as a "bridge"... Since you already have a FIOS router 'upstream' on the network. If the Capsule is configured as another router on the network, which creates an error Double NAT on the network, and it is unlikely that Back to My Mac would function at all in this type of installation. The setting for the time Capsule router Mode must therefore "Off (Bridge Mode).

Since the Capsule must be in Bridge Mode to work properly with the FIOS router, it's the FIOS router that must be set up for Port Forwarding. Then, in Bridge Mode time Capsule will cross the FIOS router to your network equipment settings.

  • 5th generation AE extension network keeps disconnecting

My WiFi network consists of two extremes of the Airport (the two 5th generation).  One is connected by Ethernet to a modem cable in my house.  The 2nd is located in my studio, a separate building; the two AEs are about 75 feet apart with a couple of walls between them.  The 2nd unit in the studio is implemented to expand my network.   I have several macs on the network, all running El Capitan; also, a couple of iPad and an iPhone, several printers, etc.

For a long time, everything worked fine; but for the last month or two, the AE in the studio which extends the network disconnects and to blink yellow.  I found that the only way to fix is to pull the plug, then go to the House and pull the plug on the main AE and the modem cable.  Then I plug the cable modem back, then the main AE and finally the 2nd AE extending into the studio.   This restores all for a day or two, and then the studio AE stops again.

The main AE and internet connection in the home is always very good. Sometimes, indeed, my wi - fi devices on in the workshop will always have an internet connection even when the AE there disconnects, because they are still in the range of the main EI in the House.  The problem is, I have an ethernet switch connected to the AE in the studio with several hanging devices, and I lost all these connections when the problem occurs.

Can anyone help diagnose this?  The only thing I've tried is to restore the default settings on the 2nd AE in the studio and then re-setting up to expand my network again.  It seems to work for awhile, but the same problem will occur later.  I'd appreciate any help anyone could offer.

My experience is about the same. I was actually very happy with the Setup program for a long time... It was necessary the occasional blow to wake up but who said a week. In terms of reliability wireless on household appliances, all right. But as time passed, it slowly grew worse and I couldn't solve the problem. I have now stopped doing this way and went to a different brand Repeater that is much more reliable.

IMHO... you need something better than the wireless extension. Seriously for your configuration to run ethernet. Separate the building, you will need to check your local regulations for the grounding of issues. The authorities may insist on the use of the fibers, but if you can bury the ethernet or run a catenary so I always this way.

If your studio is run from home without a counter power, you can also use EOP (homeplug) adapters that can be very successful. Once the power is measured so you have no common circuit so it won't work... It is always an experience if they will work.

So, how to solve the problem... If you are not able to use ethernet, fiber, or EOP or not in a situation where they can work, so let me recommend you run a dedicated wireless link. You need a pair of appropriate external units, e.g. ubiquiti 5 GHz WAP where we're connected in your home via ethernet to the outside wall or in a window where you can see the studio and the other is also the same... facing windows is ok, you can use face to face... If not, they must be installed outside under the eaves.

For now... Let me make some suggestions for your pair of AE. This might work better in the short term, but not in the long term.

    1. use 7.6.1 firmware. It of always better for me than to use 7.6.4 and was reproducible...

To change the firmware, do appear on the summary page, click the version number with the down option. You will see a list of possible versions.

    Simply choose 7.6.1 (nobody else)

Do a factory reset once it degrades and start over. Do it now while both are available. Studio first that she still has the connection lower.

    2. There are too many auto in the installation program. Set specific channels and name the bands differently. It is of course in your main AE.

for example, by using very short names, without spaces and pure alphanumeric characters. Even for the passwords but characters 8-20...

2.4 ghz to say the value... Set of 5 GHz to say AE5ghz and AE24ghz.

Put the string in 2.4 ghz 9 and 5 GHz 36 or what is the lowest channel available.

    3. now install the studio one and are trying to use 5 GHz. It may not work, as the range might be too big... but even with the bad signal, you should be able to see a clear improvement in stability with 5 GHz. If it doesn't work, well, you must use the 2.4 ghz... and now a few funny things will happen as the 5 GHz in the studio will get 5 GHz named AE24ghz... don't worry about this... all part of the fun.

    4. keep track of signal and the speed of the link. Utility v6, you can hover your mouse over the link where it is said well. (Don't even bother if the link says not as good).

Notice the link is located on 5 GHz... as suggested I forced to one, the signal level is low, - 79dBm is much lower than I like, but the connection speed is far superior to any link 2.4 GHz and was much more stable.

Now, let me suggest as the best way to keep track of what happens is to install a utility airport v5 somewhere on your network... even in a windows or machine dual boot a parallels... There are tricks to install even in El Capo. The reason is that you can get a graphical view of the binding of the two ends.

This is the screenshot of the link... and by using the MAC address of the two units I can follow what is happening.

But in the end, it became too unreliable... I think that the AE (mix with equivalent TC in my case) just wore out. Wireless signal in routers seem to be deteriorating over time...

My new Setup is complete one until I run ethernet. I got the hand on a cheap AC router that makes universal Repeater... and it works very well.

Much more poor in a perspective of network... but better reliability point of view.

  • Wireless, extend a network?

    Hello

I'm in no internet *. I live in a cottage on a farm where the main House has high speed internet, but the House I rent has no cable or phone to her line. The landlord put in a large network (Amped) but it does not work and they can't seem to manage it. I can get the signal from the main house in some parts of the House, but he is weak. I went to Apple and bought an Airport Extreme tour and sales men he told me that I would be able to connect to the wireless network, and then expand the network. I tried hanging upwards, but has problems, so I called Apple Support and the nice lady said that I could not use the Airport Extreme to extend the network if it was not plugged into the modem to internet service providers. I don't want to plug my apple product in their computer as A. I do not think that they could not understand how to set up and (b) I would not have access if it were to be reset, etc. Before I return the product I hope someone here will know if it is possible to what I'm trying to do or if I'm just wasting my time. The main house is about 75 feet from the House. In my house, I have an iMac, a Smart TV, a laptop and an iPhone, I need to get a connection to the internet. Thank you for your time.

I went to Apple and bought an Airport Extreme tour and sales men he told me that I would be able to connect to the wireless network, and then expand the network

Unfortunately, the men of sales did not you... or, more likely, they didn't... that AirPort Extreme can only wireless "extend" a network which is produced by another Apple router... since Apple uses exclusive for their feature "stretch" parameters

In other words, you need at least two routers Apple if you want Wireless 'extension' of the network.

If you do not buy another router from Apple to set up in the main house, so the AirPort Extreme to the cottage can "extend", then take a look at a Netgear product... because they claim to be able to "extend" or "repeat" virtually any network.  If it's really true is something that no one can prove, but it might work pretty well with the router in the main house.

  • Drops randomly in internet speeds on wifi devices

    Hello

I got an Airport Extreme of 2nd generation (currently with firmware version 7.6.7) for many years before I upgraded to the newer model (6th generation - currently with the firmware 7.7.7) a few months ago. The old model, always worked, so I put up as a range extender. This facility has functioned well until recently I have began to experience drops in the download speeds of 5 to 30 Mbps on my iPhone and the Macbook Air, when should I achieve speeds of 90 Mbps. sometimes drops just connection completely as well. I can do speeds back to normal, if I have the device temporarily forget the network, and then I join it. I do not get these drops in connection on my Mac Mini, which is connected to the 6th generation Airport Extreme by ethernet. Is there anything I can do in the Airport utility to remedy this situation, or y at - it another utility application I should download to diagnose the problem (I found an app that could help called Wifi Explorer -https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/wifi-explorer/id494803304?mt=12) or is the most likely problem with the hardware?

    Thank you

    Matthew

We need to know if the extreme old is configured as a roaming network... IE using extreme new ethernet or it is configured as a wireless extension.

The original AE and the second... check the basis of EI... both are the A1143... is only single 2.4 ghz band or 5 GHz... they are NOT simultaneous dual-band.

What installation speed can be extremely (sic) low... The old AE is really too old to be useful when combined with the newest one... you could just ask questions.

If you need to extend wireless, then in Airport utility, hover your mouse over where it says unknown.

This will give you the connection of the connection speed... I expect here very poor speeds and the actual file transfer speed will be a 1/3-1/4 of this link speed.

Some details that I just put in another post.

Re: TimeCapsule & GUI conflict internet connection not wifi. Why?

  • Is Airport extreme dual band

I have a double router band nighthawk netgear as my base station to the floor and I put my Airport extreme downstairs as a wifi extender told me that if my airport extreme is only single of the band will slow down the network of hole. Is this true?

We need the model number of your AirPort Extreme to tell you whether it is simple or double band. The model number is at the bottom of the airport... starts with an 'A' followed by 4 digits.  An example would be the A1143.

Then, it might help to understand that Apple uses proprietary technology to Wireless "extend" a network that is designed to allow only Apple routers extend the signal of another router from Apple.

When wireless routers expand a network, there is always a loss of about half of the potential speed on the network. Nature of the beast with a wireless extension.  This loss can be avoided if the routers connect using a wired Ethernet connection.

You don't specify how the airport will connect to the Netgear network, so it would be useful that you could clarify on this.

It is very unlikely that an airport could not Wireless extend the signal from a third-party router. If your airport is an AirPort Express Terminal, it can probably 'join' the Netgear network so that it will work for AirPlay or allow a remote USB printer to connect.

But the Express (or extreme, if that's what you have) not connect "extend" the network when he "joins", then wireless near the airport unit will always be all the way back to your main router.

So, it might be a good idea to check the settings of the Express using AirPort Utility to find out exactly what it is and is not on your network.

  • Mains AC on only guest?

    Hello

I have a last Airport extreme and the last Airport express (in the wireless extension mode). All firmwares to update. I had problems with the internet drops, (cable company that comes out next week, maybe a modem problem, but that's another story).  I saw the link to an article on Netspot (a great free wireless utility) and downloaded for the hell of it.  One of the interesting things that I noticed was that my main network has no AC... It has 2 bands B/G/N and A/N and a N.  The guest network has AC, A/D and 2 B/G/N. I think I would want that on my main AC, as it is the fastest and we 5 compatible devices AC (new I'm iMac, iPhone 6s and iPad Pro and former iPads and computers.)  Another note, the main network is WPA2 Personal.  Guest network said WPA/WPA2 Personal. I don't think that this has nothing to do with the drops, but I would like to than the fastest network on my main network...

what you say forum?  Thanks in advance.

Here is the link to the article for those who are interested

    -a-Wi-Fi-network-is-free/ http://MacDailyNews.com/2016/08/08/The-Macs-Best-App-to-Analyze-and-Troubleshoot

I don't think I've ever seen your question we are discussing.

There was a difficulty for the comments in the last firmware update wireless. Apple difficulty 2 numbers for each 3 they create... She keeps programmers in a job for life. I don't think you noticed if there was a problem in the past on older firmware?

Speed wireless over comments has been poor... so even if you link to full speed are you full speed of your connection?

The express can complicate things. Please, turn off the power.

Can you test by resetting the extreme at the factory and redo its configuration (you can export a configuration before starting to backtrack quickly).

Repeat the installation of the extreme... Use short names for everything, not spaces and pure alphanumeric characters... No, apple has recommended names in the installation program.

Use the same rules for passwords.

As far as I KNOW only WPA2 is supported wireless AC. This is why the Express should be turned off.

    Do not use wireless comments.

Your AC wireless is now working?

In fact, I think the best Diagnostics for the wireless is already built into Mac OS.

Use Wireless Diagnostics helps you troubleshoot Wi - Fi on your Mac - Apple Support

Who is your ISP? Some like Cox give users Apple big headaches.

The introduction of ipv6 went smoothly for them.

    This modem do you have?

There are problems with some modems of SB series... for example, 6141 is often cited.

The list does not stop there... and the problem is specific to the version of Airport Extreme AC and TC.

  • Best placement of router?

My Airport Extreme is located on one side of my two-story home, in an office on the first floor. I have an Airport Express located downstairs, to the other side of the House.  My wifi coverage was uneven at the bottom. I recently read a study suggesting that a router should be ideally located (not possible for me) and that the router is on the ground at least four or five feet.  I tried this and now they have about five feet above the ground.

My question is, the coverage would be even better, if I placed the higher router?

So far the Speedtest app on my iPhone show my download & much more quickly than what I used to get upload.

    Thank you

Wireless extension across the diagonal of a House of two floors... through as a very solid material is possible always will lead to worst possible wireless. Lifting the Express to get over some of the furniture is a little help... upper which will probably meet diminishing returns.

The best way to solve the problem is the use of ethernet.

If your House is large and difficult then just ethernet to the room directly under the location of the extreme and put another extreme in there... Buy a second hand gen5 AE on ebay etc... It is far superior to other express. Set up roaming to the network.

  • I desperately need help until my extended family of Apple Airport. Any network of experts

So I'm an extremely loyal apple fan. I pretty much shoot a whole bunch of products for the wireless extend the range of my internet network in the House. I just actually recently bought an Apple 2 TB Time Capsule ("Tall" tower as a) aka (ATCMain) to add to my current crop of Apple routers: year Apple 2 TB Time Capsule (the big one "Flat") aka (ATCExtend) and 3 Apple Express (AE1, AE2, AE3).

My problem is that I often have a problem with the connection, as the disconnection of the internet. To fix this, I normally go to Airport utility and change the radio of ATCMain signal (channel 11 to 1 or vice versa) or I would go to the internet tab and switch between static and DHCP then back to DHCP click on renew DHCP then update and voila the question goes - for now... Well, it got to a point where it is just ridiculous how I need to keep doing this on a very regular basis, normally I get flack from my cause of family members, I 'insisted' on getting Apple products. So my question is how do I solve this problem.

As a solution, a few days ago, I bought ATCMain to take the place of ATCExtend. And a little solved 1 problem yet still retained another problem. Here's how the implementation looks like.

Essentially, hand connect with everything except that AE3 or printer wireless Airport Express is in Mode Client for my Epson printer.

This has solved the problem of switch me between different Radio channels, I guess that maybe since the two time Capsules have a range more wide an Airport Express Terminal, they are better able to maintain a link between them, solid extending wireless without fault.

HOWEVER, the problem of the power of the internet is still there.

My plan is now really invest on just getting the sons of the ATCMain ETHERNET to ATCExtend as well as AE1 (JHWS ROOM Airport Express) while I offer wireless lounge Airport Express or AE2. The Airport Express or AE3 printer will remain the same while we might add 1 more Airport Express and set a cable ethernet to the Airport Express at ATCMain.

Thus, the question are the following:

    1. I have to reset everything right from the start and start from scratch when I add the Ethernet cables?

2 should. what settings I change if I Ethernet running?

3 - is a more reliable method of extending the network to a wireless extension?

4 everyone here would be able to provide an organization chart on the process to be undertaken?

    1. I have to reset everything right from the start and start from scratch when I add the Ethernet cables?

    Yes, it's totally different configuration.

A reset will not delete files on a hard drive of just TC configuration on the router.

You must configure each connected ethernet device properly so that it will be using the bridge to the main router... which I assume is the main ATC. And he must create a wireless network... Use the same name and the same password for all units... I would also recommend for now, you stand for auto wireless channels.

2 should. what settings I change if I Ethernet running?

I said for the most part already.

Airport in the latest Mac OS utility is smart to understand... so long that you start in the order... and make sure the ATV hand configuration is correct, the rest should be pretty much exactly right. If you encounter problems after the screenshots... It is easier for us hard to see real numbers.

However I don't say all the names, it is short without space and pure alphanumeric. All the passwords are only 8-20 cases of characters and numbers.

Since Apple is now dependent on SMB network protocol, it is best to stick to the rules.

3 - is a more reliable method of extending the network to a wireless extension?

Ethernet is 100000000% higher wireless... This is the ONLY reliable and trustworthy connection method.

We all try to get wireless... after a while you learn that it is full of gremlins and voodoo... He failed miserably in any network with streaming... to transfer regular data that it might work but as soon as you get in the media... Forget it.

4 everyone here would be able to provide an organization chart on the process to be undertaken?

    Reset all airports factory.

Main airport of installation... Do not use recommended Apple names... call him MainATC and call its ATCwifi wireless (for example)

Set a proper password according to the rules above... a simple sentence of your last film interest.

Make sure that it is functional and reliable.

Plug the second TC... Run the installer...

Change the name to something suitable... Not recommended Apple name.

It should automatically discover it is the configuration via ethernet to the MainATC and select bridge on wire. If this isn't the case, we can change it later.

    Verify that it works correctly.

    Plug the first express.

Change the name to something suitable... Not recommended Apple name.

It should automatically discover it is the configuration via ethernet to the MainATC and select bridge on wire. If this isn't the case, we can change it later.

    Etc.

When you do the wireless device that will be very good... Place near the airport nearest you, and run the Setup program to extend wireless.

Make your client mode device to connect to a printer.

Post screenshots of everyone who gives.

  • Change of modem can improve the speed of Airport Express Extender?

My router is a Airport Extreme 6th Gen.

When Wi - Fi and close this Airport Extreme base station, I get average speeds of:

117 Mbps down and > 11 Mbps upward

At the opposite end of the House, I use a wireless extension: Airport Express 1 St gen - model A1264 (MB32 1LL/A)

Here, the download speed goes up to 14mbps

Download speed rest > 11 Mbps

My ISP will not have my current cable modem: 6580 Motorola (jumpered to disable router) to provide speeds greater than 100/10 (though even I can actually slightly higher than average, I have indicate above).

If I replaced the modem with my ISP (Time Warner Cable) provisions for 200/20Mbps (speeds I pay in fact) - and * if * I got then that 100 Mbps speed increase (wireless) when close to my Airport Extreme base station (and I think I'll) - should I then expect to see a significant speed increase at the opposite end of the House , where I rely on the Airport Express wireless extension?

In other words, is expected to double the speed of my modem now gives me wireless (when you're on my Apple Extreme base station) also be reflected in an increase in speed at the end of the House where I must rely on the Express Extender 1 generation and where I am now only download speeds see 14Mbps?

    BTW:

    1. I can not move my extreme or my Express.  They both must stay exactly where they are. Neither can they cannot be permanently interconnected via ethernet cable.

    2. I don't think the speed reduction I describe is a bandwidth issue because I am the only one on the network and do not have multiple downloads on several devices at the same time.

Before I ring $$$ on a modem that won't improve my speed, you will appreciate any guidance I where I need more.

Change of modem can improve the speed of AirPort Express Extender?

Just a little, at best. The Express pourrait spend 25-30 Mbps. No guarantee, with strangeness wireless... it is maybe the same or worse based on my experiences.

If you need more speed at the end of the House... the AirPort Express must be located to half way between the AirPort Extreme and the end of the House. Ideally, he would have line-of-sight with AirPort Extreme.

Yet, you say that you can not move the Express or the extreme and can't get the Ethernet cable. Have you considered or tried Powerline Ethernet adapters?

  • 802.11AC

I have an extreme Apple (latest version) which is ac 802.11. I keep in a room near the kitchen. In the living room, I have an Apple Express, and this is the 1st version. Turning to 802.11n and I have an ATV 4th Gen connected to it. In the House, I have another Apple Express, also 1st version and I also have an ATV 4th Gen connected to it.

I have the latest iPad Pro and MacBook 12 inches. These run to ac 802.11.

The two expresses it is connected to "Extend the wireless network" in Airport utility.

My question is, if the extreme works in 802.11ac and (2) Express with 802.11n, am I get full speed/bandwidth or do I need to get rid of the Express and maybe get another Apple Extreme 802.11ac?

Thank you very much. I appreciate it.

The Express Gen1 are single band... and more than likely using 2.4 ghz which is also limited in Apple routers to 150Mbps max... so with wireless extension of the Max speed which is normally about 60Mbps (wireless is half - duplex to half the link speed and then a little less for inefficiency) around 30Mbps (half of the half) is what you can expect. Even then, it might be much slower if the wireless signal is weak.

Measure and see... More valid numbers are your own results. What speeds you get when connected to an express with a computer of the usual speedtest.com.

Now, if you have internet slow... for example ADSL I have with a top speed of about 6 Mbps, then buy the best equipment will not increase an iota of internet speed. However if you need better local lan speed or your internet connection is faster than 30Mbps routers purchases better wireless CAN help.

I say MAY because AC wireless has bad range... While it can give very high speed he falls too quickly...

There is only one way fully guaranteed to get the bandwidth... Ethernet.

If you are not able or not willing to install ethernet... any other method is the luck of the draw.
