Wireless Fax

Scenario: 4500 wireless printer, but closest to the phone, jack is at the bottom. We use wireless devices in this area. Is it possible to 'pair' my printer with phones wireless to send/receive faxes?

Hi joagee,

No, you will need to have a physical telephone line connected to the printer to send and receive faxes.

  • Answer question 6500 wireless fax

I was just off a cannon MFP HP 6500, instructions aren't really good!

My question is that the HP can be set to auto-answer, which is a pain when you also have an answering machine connected to the line, so I turned off auto-answer, I just used the land line and noticed the MFP out of Eve as Canon has done, this means that the 6500 will listen to the line (even with auto answer off) and if she hears a fax carrier will pick up? I hope that the answer is Yes and that's what would make the gun, but there is no mention of this feature in all the instructions I've read.

    Hi David,

I work for HP and noticed your post. Since I am familiar with the printer you mentioned, I thought I will answer you.

This printer will be picking up the incoming fax when he hears the fax tone, even if the line was actually answered by the answering machine. So that this works, there are a few conditions.

    (1) the printer should be set to auto answer. Is there a button to auto-answer on the right side of the front of the printer next to the switch.

The fire must be turned on.

    (2) the number of rings must be set higher than the answering machine.

If the answering machine takes up to 2 rings on the printer 3 or more rings. (This will essentially turn on listening)

The number of rings can be set by pressing the setup button on the front panel of the printer, right to the Basic setting Fax arrow, select OK, then right arrow to rings before answer.

    (3) the answering machine must be connected to the printer and not any other wall jack in the House. In this way, the printer can control the answering machine records the sound of incoming fax, etc.

I hope this answer helps. Im not tech support im not sure it is adequately fits your needs.

  • Fax HP Officejet 6500 E710n

I have a wireless network in my house and I would like to establish a fax with my camera HP Officejet wireless 6500 E710n.  I downloaded all the drivers.

I have a phone line for our broadband connection.  The phone line was installed on the voicemail.

Is it possible to have a wireless fax?

    Thank you

    Thank you for your response.

In order to use your fax capabilities, you need an active phone line. You cannot use your wireless connection. The document that I have provided to send a fax from your computer, need a phone line active. I'll give you the manual Officejet 6500 E710N here. On page 45, explains how to set up a fax machine with a phone line.

  • printer supported for XP sp3 with 32-bit

Have a laptop with XP Pro 32 bit SP3.  In the search for printers many users said that they had problems with all the functions on HP, epson printers.  You want to get an all in one printer wireless fax, prints, copies and scans which is supported by XP pro I on the laptop.  Confused by the comments of the users and the lack of info online.  If these comments are exaggerated or is there a printer in landscape of Home/office that works for all functions with fear?

first of all, if your laptop has xp on it, then it is likely, it can support wireless printing.  Instead, wireless connectivity you have is dedicated to internetting.

but it does not mean that you can not buy a wireless print server to use for a wireless printer.  but my recommendation is to avoid this high-tech stuff at the moment because you will incur costs and headaches.

Instead, you should be able to take advantage of the technology of usb hub.  so, instead of buying a wireless print server, buy a usb hub.  and instead of being fascinated with a wireless printer, opt for the usb printer.

regarding the printers are compatiable for what operating system? generally, all the boxes are clearly marked with the operating system, with which the printer is compatiable.

However, because you do due diligence, copy down the model number of the printer you are interested with and do a final check to their homesite.  Then look on the homesite in the "downloads" section to see if the model has drivers and updates for xp.

also, you can do an internet search to find previous discussions and or questions about templates and and you can even post a follow-up question on this forum to check our recommendations.

Since you are interested in a landscape of Home/office of the derivation of printers color and go directly to a laser printer. in my personal experience, hp should be top of the list.

laser printing is the enterprise standard and cartridges laser last a good long time compared to cartridges color cheese and very expensive.  In addition, buy a separate scanner and a separate fax machine.   These three components are much better than an all in one device.

Finally, if you need color printing, then it is cheaper to get your color photos, prints by Wal-Mart online than using paper photo at home and expensive color cartridges.

  • OfficeJet 6480 problem w fax setup, will not pass through wireless phone

    OfficeJet 6480.

I took 20 minutes on the phone to find someone to get me to tell them what the problem is.

the first speaker gave me a ticket #8018531464

and passed me on the real tech support (I think).

Finally, I asked if I could please tell him what my problem.

He said yes and asked if f I have the black cord that comes with it.

I said 'yes' and he pulled the plug (1 line) on the 6480.

    He hung up on me!

hahaha, nope, the wwas cord connecting the cable-modem (TimeWarner) jack to the panasonic cordless phone.

in any case, I wasn't going to go through the introduction of 20 min. again, only to find out if he could answer the question.

    So here it is.

When I connect the black cable supplied with (for a single line I think) telephone jack of the cable modem (they provide my dgital phone, internet and Cable only ESA, no data dedicated line because I have to go through a flurry of faxes from time to time at home.)

then the decision-making ext 2 'lines' on the 6480, another cord goes to the single input based on the receiver of the wireless phone.

This is the problem, no tone came thru.

so, in this loop, I inserted the small adapter, single-jac + cord short. the output of the 6480.

and plugges regular there cord to the cradle of the wireless.

I had a tone. It seemed to work so far. So I went to bed, feeling successful, to continue to ensure that I had

useful with my 6480 fax equipment.

However the next day it did not get a dial tone on the phone.

I tried different combinations and then abandoned once more imn frustration.

I tried to get this thing to work for a few months now.

Once I had the parts of the loop of any kitchen. someone should sent the fax and the 6480 a o ring...

He hgave been other variants of this scenario which have brought to the point of frustration, I said why bother, I'll do it at work.

and not being able to devote a lot of time and energy with this easy start home.

now since I've been laid off, I shortly and more neceessitty to fix this problem.

I think that the signal gets to the 6480, because I run the test and all passses. There is no test for what I am referrring to and none combined on the 6480.

I went into the details for several reasons,

I can omit something: oh, Yes, the router is a lynksys router.

There is a nearby office using the wireless router and a laptop computer in the other room.

plus, you get a little history, to learn something on me, as you go through the same routine that I do with technical support. HP is not the only culprit of this approach non-customer ceneterd. But even that does not make this right.

I suggest, if some listen to those interested. This customer centered woould be to first know of me what is my problem, while you may, or may not, to solve. Then, you can collect the serial number, etc..

In addition, since you ask the serial number, I would like, as a customer, with that number clearly presented in a convenient place, say in my opinion as I llook at the machine.

Yes, I know, its probably on the back, probably there insert n close the caps. no doubt.

I hope to hear from anyone. Thank you.

Here is the document on the implementation for different kinds of digital lines (think VOIP is not listed) that could work however, the fax modules used in probably all HP AIO are for analogue telephone lines only (the kind of Ma Bell telephone lines that have nothing to do with computers).  So, you could be just out of luck unless you want to pay for another standard analog line in your home for the fax.  Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but makes no sense you need to beat your head in frustration on something that is not likely to ever work.  Oh and another thing - make absolutely sure that the telephone line is connected to the fax to send/receive is the one supplied with the printer, they are not your average phone cords that come with phones or you can pick up at the local super store.

  • Windows Fax and Scan cannot detect Photosmart C4580 all-in-1 scanner connected to the wireless network

I have no problem printing or scanning when I connect my C4500 to PC via USB.  When connected via my home wireless router I can print OK but can not scan - it's the same for other users and computers.  Windows Fax and Scan gives me the message 'no scanner found. '  I need to work so that all users on my netwrok home can share the scanner.  I use Windows 7 64-bit.

Thanks Travis_C (HP).  I actually found the solution just before receiving your answer!  I discovered that, although the Solution Center says it would uninstall the existing files before allowing me to reinstall with the latest version downloaded, it didn't remove all the files.  I only discovered this because the new facility has not taken me through the whole fresh installation procedure, he simply asked me what additional features I wanted to install and asked me if I wanted a local printer or network etc.

I thought that there must be a mistake or problem with whatever existing files were left and the new facility would not correct it.  So I used the control panel to uninstall the existing files, and I made sure that everything was gone.  I then used the last download to reinstall, this time through the new correct installation procedure, and everything now works perfectly.

With this method I always had a problem on another PC, giving me the same problem I had before.  I realized that this was due to a USB dongle connected to the PC to a wireless keyboard that seems to affect the installation.  When I removed the dongle installation worked again perfectly, and I now have full printing and scanning ability on all PCs.

I think the installer for this printer wireless (and perhaps others?) should be updated to solve the problem, and also the center of Solution must be fixed to ensure that if you uninstall the software it should not leave anything.
