WLan availability

Hi all

I'm new on this stuff and will probably sound a bit thick request this, but we are.

I ordered a Toshiba laptop computer, via a catalogue (could not afford to pay down to one) and I'm a little confused by the term 'Wifi '.

"WiFi 802. "11b / g ' is in the description, but does that mean automatically that I can connect to the internet through a router without cables (apart from the initial installation) or need me something else to do this?

The reason why I ask, is that description on some other Toshiba laptops will even say "wireless enabled".

I phoned the catalog for a model number, but they couldn't give me a.

I would be very happy for any help on this matter,

Thank you.

I don't know if this helps, but I just bought a router Netgear Super-G wireless modem.

Hello

I guess that the laptop has an installed 802 minPCI. 11b / g WLan card and you can connect this device to a WLan router.

Some Toshiba laptops are delivered without WiFi card, but there is a possibility for an upgrade. In this case, the laptop is ready WLAN.

Of course, many laptops are delivered also without a WLan card and it of also not possible to improve it with a wireless network card internal minPCI. In this case, you should find an info that the WiFi network is not available on this model of laptop.

: D it s a great help, now I know that you are an owner of a super-geant Netgear wireless router modem ;)

see you soon

  • Satellite L40: Need driver WLAN for XP

I just bought this laptop and I removed Vista and installed Windows XP. Since then, I can't use my wireless LAN.

Does anyone know, what wireless LAN chip is on board and where can I find the driver.

    Hello

The L40 Sat must be a new series and not very long on the market because I didn t find the XP drivers for this laptop.
But I discovered that some of the L40 units were delivered with an Atheros Wlan card.

Toshiba offers a useful information portal WLan. You can also find the latest WLan drivers:
    http://APS.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/

Try to install the drivers from the above site.
It seems that these are the very latest versions of driver Wlan available for Intel and Atheros cards.

    Hello Samo

In my opinion, you can use this update. In the latter months of many users have installed updates from Intel for the network without WIRE 2200 b/G card and the performance was much better. Please let us know about the performance and the results of the installation.

  • Satellite C660 - 120 Wireless Network Card disconnect

My Satellite C660-120 warning disconnect from the WLAN. It happens every two seconds. I tried different browsers and updated NETWORK adapter drivers. It's running Windows 7 with all updates on a wireless n network. Someone at - it solutions?

    > It runs Windows 7 with all updates on a wireless n network.

Have you noticed the same problem with WiFi using another standard Wlan as 802.11 B or G?

The laptop seems to supports the 802.11(b/g/n) of Realtek RTL8188CE WLan card.
You can compare the version of the driver Wlan available including the version available here:
    http://APS2.toshiba-tro.de/WLAN/?page=downloads
the last seems to be: 1005.19.0420.2011

In addition, it would be interesting to know if the WiFi network disconnects using only the power of dough or also use laptop connected to the power adapter.

It would be possible that the system saves energy and this affects the Wlan functionality.
In this case, you should disable this option in: Device Manager-> WLan card-> properties-> last tab (power management).

You must also uninstall the TCP/IP v6 and must use only TCP/IPv4

If I understand the question: you are not able to use the wireless Internet not LAN. Is this correct?
Probably, you have not installed right driver LAN or WLan.

Satellite C855-S5349N isn't known to me looks like it came out in the United States.

  • How to access the Satellite Pro 6100 wireless network card?

I'm cleaning a Satellite Pro 6100 for a customer and noticed that it has built in wireless card (something they didn't know). However, I just can't work out how to access. I pushed the little switch on the side backwardsa and I rocked forward, Fn + F8 and everything else I can think. But nothing happens.

I even found the Switch Device Network utility, but that is only to show the LAN card.

    Any ideas?

First of all please check if Device Manager in the laptop has an integrated WiFi card. The switch WLan available on the website of the laptop does not. Laptops are delivered with different specifications, and the WLan card is optional.

I think that the WLan card is not installed in your laptop and so you cannot use it.

  • Satellite L20-181: the WLan switch is not available - cannot activate the Wlan antenna

I have a Toshiba Satellite L20-181 and I bought an Intel Mini PCI Wifi Pro/Wireless 2200BG so that I place it in the empty Mini PCI connector it has in order to have the wireless.

While I placed it on a regular basis also antennas etc the Intel utility sends me a message that the network connection is disabled and that I should use the switch on the front panel of the laptop to turn it on.

This switch located in the laptop from the front is a button that is not reinforced.

    Any ideas guys?

    Hello

You may need to press the button?
Also, I found a Satellite L20 manual on the Toshiba site and there I found information that the WLan functionality is not available on all models.

  • WLAN channels 12 and 13 are not available in Europe

    Hello

If I run a German WindowsXP SP2 and VistaRC2 it is impossible to connect to access points using channels 12 and 13 which should be available in Europe.

It is especially a problem when connecting to public access points where I can not change the configuration.

All advice how to fix this problem?

    Thank you very much
    Dirk Roemer

    Hello

Only 11 channels are used in the United States.
So eventually the new Vista RC2 is not available to receive the 12 and 13 WiFi channel.
He should know that the RC2 version is not the official final version of Vista and it contains more than 1500 bugs at this time. I think that this version contains the WLan standard values for the American market.

In addition, Intel 9.x WLAN drivers implement a new specification that allows configurations specific to each country through access points (AP).
If one of the APs in the range (not necessarily the AP, the wireless network adapter is connected to!) broadcast such a configuration countries, channels that are not allowed in this country, the Intel WLAN card will cease to use channels.
In their default settings, APs supporting this specification will accept only channels 10 and 11.

  • Portege R100: Bluetooh/WLAN 802 .11b/g Mini pCi card Combo available

    Hello

does anyone know of a Mini-PCI solution, which combines a b/g WLAN Card with Bluetooth which is compatible with the R100?

My new laptop has a bluetooth connection and a nice combination of WLAN/BT integrated in the R100 would be also cool that the R100 is. There are a few Combocards on eBay that are Mini-PCi cards, but I don't know if "mini-PCI" is a standard for all Mini PCi cards adapt the R100...

    Concerning

    Christian

Hmm, I searched a bit for some information on the Portege R100 series and it seems that BT is not available and not extensible. This would mean that there is no room for the internal minPCI BT module.

The WiFi network is available but not BT ;(

In my opinion, you need to use an external solution such as a stick USB BT.

    Best regards

And in general I'm happy with Toshiba...

    Hello

I didn t find Win 7 driver yet on the European driver Toshiba page.
But I found the beta version of Win7 drivers Toshiba page we
The fact is that not all series of phones are supported you will need to test

The L500/L550 don't seem to support the switch WLan hardware, but just that the FN + F8 key combination. The downside is that you can not activate the WLan if the compatible driver that controls the FN keys would not be installed.

I read about it in a few discussions, but unfortunately without the use of FN + F8, you will not be able to activate the WLan. :(

  • Portege R700: How turn off WLAN when the connection to the local network is available

    Hello

    I am the owner of Portege R700, with Windows 7 x 86.
I want to find a way to disable WLAN automatically when I plug Ethernet.

I tried to enable the following setting:

"Device Manager", "Network Adaptaters", "Broadcom 802.11n", 'Advanced', 'Disable on cable connection' = enable. "

But it does not work. Do you have another idea for me?

    Thank you in advance.

    Hello

I think that to do this automatically, you should not use certain software/tools for part 3.
Looks like applications BridgeChecker or protective Wireless does this job very well.

Check that a feedback would be appreciated.

  • Qosmio F20: New WLan driver is available - should I launch updated?

    Hi all.

I received an email from Toshiba this morning telling me that there are 2 new drivers available for my machine.
The first is 'intel wireless lan driver update' and the second is "atheros wireless lan driver.
Both are listed in the "update files" section for updates available for my laptop.

Can I take both, or it will spoil my most vital wireless connection?
    Thank you.

The laptop run and use the wire properly?
    Yes?
So why change something if it works?

I think it is? s no need to update the drivers if you can use WiFi without problem ;)
Now, never change you the running system ;)

  • Satellite A30-104: WLan not available - I turn on the wireless network card

I have a Toshiba Satellite A30-104 with an inprocomm ipn2220 built in wireless card. The problem I'm having is that when I get a network says its not available and asks me to turn it on.

The driver is installed for the card, the switch for the wireless is set on you and I pressed FN & F8 and yet led remains off and nothing happens.
I watched autour and seen that some people cover the terminals 11 and 13 and it works but not too sure.

I also should this problem with a new card or is there a way to fix this?

    Any help much appreciated.

    Hello

I guess that you upgraded the wireless lan card later, didn t you? I know that 11 + 13 pins hint and it worked, but after awhile the card did not and the connection quality was so poor that I bought a card atheros on ebay and this card works really well. So I suggest that you are looking for a card atheros on ebay and to install such card in your system since the cards are known to work properly in the toshiba machines.

My configuration: Tecra 9100 with P4M and Atheros 5005 G MiniPCI card

    Welcome them
