Workstation 7 or 8 on Ubuntu 11.10 host?
Workstation 7 or 8 works with Ubuntu 11.10 as host? I have Ubuntu 11.10 64-bit and tried once to install 7, and he's not well. So I wonder which version (s) working with Ubuntu 11.10 when it is the host.

Hi all
I installed Workstation. 1.3 build-324285 on Ubuntu 10.10 64-bit (kernel 2.6.35 - 27-generic #48 - Ubuntu SMP kills Feb 22 20:25:46 UTC 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux).
Everything seems to work fine except for the fact that the ISO images won't load properly. Seems there is a permission problem, since the market, workstation user sudo (root) drives (ISO of load in VM allowing the normal start on virtual CD ROM).
I installed Workstation with sudo (the system was asked to do this, otherwise it wouldn't install), but obviously I don't want to use root to run the workstation, I would be able to run as a normal user.
Can anyone give me a tip for that?
have you checked the obvious? -permissions of files on isos?

VMware Workstation 7 video problem with Ubuntu Lucid
Running VMware WS 7.0.0 (trail) on Ubuntu 9.10 x 64 install Ubuntu Lucid beta. Autoisntall works well (Ubuntu 10.4 detected), but there is absolutely no video output when installing. Uplon restart I get the follow-up "Ubuntu runs in low graphics Mode. Screen graphics, peripheral of entry card may not be detected correctly. You willneed to set these yourself. "Press OK produced a menu the first choice is to use low graphics for a single session. Thre are 3 other options, but none of them are useful because when I run Ubuntu Lucid suplpossedly Low Graphics mode the display is indeed perfectly good. Hello. I use Workstation for many, many years, so I would say I have my set reasonable expectations.
My main desktop computer:
-Processor Intel i7 (4950 I think), memory of 16G, Samsung 850 SSD Pro, operating system Ubuntu x 64 VMWare Workstation 11.1 14.10
It works really well, but my client machines, be it Windows 7 business or Ubuntu LTS 14.04 frequently "stutter" in use. When the stuttering happens, the host machine is relatively high projection of CPU on vmware-vmx, 15 or 20 according to 'top '. Stuttering can happen every minute or two, perhaps 5 to 10 seconds at a time. It's boring, but when I use the CAD software in the computer of the customer it is downright dangerous as shortcut keys get failed, partially or entirely, and usually bad things come.
I can watch or try to stop this stuttering?
Thank you!
I'll call this resolved - finally. I thought I was going to have to continue to use Virtual Box forever - a sad perspective. This problem has persisted in 12 Pro Version as well.
I can't believe I'm the only one having this problem - especially when its the password on both machines - 2 for 2. In fact I found someone else having this problem:
VMware workstation 11 on Ubuntu 15.04 high utilization of the processor resolved
VMware workstation on Ubuntu with windows guests 11 freezes from time to time with very high CPU usage. The vmware-vmx and khugepaged process get time cpu 100% for a few seconds. The khugepaged is the process that configures the transparent hugepages. When I turn off the transparent windows hugepages prompt without freezes again. To turn off on each operating system starts I put in /etc/rc.local##################If f/sys/kernel/mm/transparent_hugepage/enabled test; then

Excessive I/o, Ubuntu Maverick, guest host of Windows 7, both are 32-bit
Hi all.
I've invited Windows 7 SP1 (with the latest updates) installed on a virtual machine hosted on Ubuntu Maverick. The hosts and guests are 32-bit operating systems. When the customer is running the system carries out a large number of e/s (the LED of the disc is very bright) same for answers and small farms slowly. Doing something heavier, such as from Visual Studio or MS Expression Blend inside the guest takes about 5 minutes. Opening a XAML file or build my solution also takes enormous amount of time.
I cloned the virtual HD and he ran under VirtualBox, and it does not display these problems, then I think that the problem is somewhere in the configuration of the VMWare VM. I would like to take advantage of ability of VMWare to accelerate 3D graphics, so I have to stay with VMWare. Everyone experienced these problems? All solutions?
Some info from the host:
Core i5 520M
4 GB of RAM (I have a PAE kernel, then he can access all this)
Ubuntu Maverick (10.10)
Hard drive 500 GB, 4500 RPM. A 277 GB free.
News comments:
2 virtual processors
2 GB of RAM
100 GB virtual hard drive (not not previously assigned)
An another 10 GB, preallocated virtual hard disk for the windows swap file
I also added advanced options that I saw in another site, which may solve the problem, but they did not help (and has not done anything worse still too). You can find them at the end of the VMX file attached.

you are right, the installation is 32 and 64, but is 32. By activating the VT in the BIOS, you will be able to run the x 64 guests.

I used VMware Converter to create a virtual machine from an existing Windows XP Pro (32 - bit, SP3) installation. I ran that virtual machine in VMware Workstation 6.5.1. He gave me new hardware detected for two assistants: System of Base and video controller (VGA Compatible) device. I was not able to find the drivers or otherwise go beyond FNH assistants for these two devices. At the present time, both appear under the heading "Other devices" in Device Manager with yellow exclamation next to them circles. Video response is slow. I don't know what Base system device refers, so I can't say if it is efficient. Any ideas how I can install or update the drivers of these two? Thank you...
You already have everything you need. There are 5 or 6 ISOs in the folder my computer. This is the VMware Tools installation disc - one for each family of the guest operating system. Check that you have specified the correct guest OS in the settings of the virtual machine (Options-> general). Then use the menu to install the VMware tools, when the guest operating system is loaded and recorded. Then, inside the prompt, access the CD-ROM drive and run the Setup installer.

Launch the workstation auto run ubuntu + vm load
Lets start by saying that I have a pc with an Ubuntu 12.04 host OS. I installed VMware Workstation on it, and I put windows 7 as a virtual machine inside the workstation.
My question is possible to press the power button and it loads to ubuntu (autologon) to have Vmware workstation auto start towards the top and then auto start my virtual machine to windows 7 in full screen. (I already have when I turn on the windows 7 VM than full screens.)
Thanks in advance.
He was happy. You are better to include the full path in quotation marks, (that's what I mean :), not only a part of it):
"/ usr/bin/vmrun start" "/home/administrator/vmware/Windows 7 x 64/Windows7x64.vmx"" "

Ubuntu 9.10 not working do not under Vmware Workstation 7
My OS is Windows 7 pro and I'm using Vmware Workstation 7. I have Ubuntu 9.10 installed and it is powered OFF. He worked at one point but does not work now. "I get ' permission on file - cannot locate the VMDK errors." I want to upgrade from VMware Workstation 8. Should I go to the control panel and REMOVE Ubuntu 9.10 before installing Workstation 8 or will the upgrade fix, regardless of the errors I receive? Any suggestions or ideas will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.
From what you wrote it would be interesting to check the permissions of NTFS from the virtual computer. You should check the files using the Explorer. Where is your computer virtual stored or saved? Have you moved?

Workstation 6-Ubuntu Server 10.10
Hi friends:
I have workstation 6 to install on ubuntu server 10.10, but great to run vmware - install.pl, it fails because is unable to build the vmmon module. I saw that there is a patch for other versions of ubuntu and desktop... My kernel is 2.6.35 - 22-server.
What can I do?
PD: the work you do here is priceless
WS 6 with such a new kernel? -don't know if it's possible...
Better use an older kernel or use WS 7.1.2 - same as the version you need a patch to the kernel.

After the upgrade to Workstation 7.1 Ubuntu comments run too fast
Hello
After the upgrade of VMware Workstation 7.1 my VM is practically unusable: the entire GUI of the host thus runs much too fast.
This happened only after the upgrade of WMware 7.0 to 7.1, I changed absolutely nothing in the virtual machine. Before this upgrade, I've been running Workstation 7.0 organizes a Ubuntu VM since January
without a hitch.
I wonder if other users know this. Would appreciate any help, as is this virtual machine have been I do all my development work for my work.
Kind regards
Giannis
If you say that you have changed nothing you don't update the VMWare Tools, have you?

The filesystem (vmhgfs module) driver is used only for the shared folder
feature. The rest of the software provided by VMware Tools is designed to work
regardless of this function.
If you want the shared folders feature, you can install the driver of
running vmware-config - tools.pl again after making sure that gcc, binutils, make
and your kernel sources are installed on your computer.
These packages are available on the installation of your distribution CD.

Guest Windows always opens at 640 x 480 after restart of VMware Workstation?
Whenever I do this sequence of operations, my guest operating system comes in the resolution of 640 x 400 lean instead of the usual 1400 x 1050.
- Stop or suspend my Windows prompt (Windows XP Professional SP3)
- Leave VMware Workstation (version 10.0.1 for Linux)
- Restart my Linux (Ubuntu 13.10) host
- Restart my Windows XP guest
This happens even if I simply suspended the guest (as opposed to closing) before the quit/restart.
It did not used to happen; as in recent months.
At the same time, I run a Windows 7 guest in another tab (if it goes through the same procedure), and it comes in full resolution.
Any ideas? My vmx configuration file is attached.
I solved the problem by downloading QRes and running in Windows XP prompt:
"C:\Program Files\QRes\QRes" / x 1050 1680/y
This has not only changed the resolution once again, it seems to have solved the problem completely each time you start.
