  I have Workstation 8.0.1 installed on two laptop computers each running Windows 7 SP1 x 64... the shared component of the virtual machine runs on one but not the other. On the machine that I have problems with I uninstalled Workstation and reinstalled - without success. What I ended up doing to replace the datastores.xml file in the Directory go (C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\VMware\hostd) on the laptop with the problem with the file datastores.xml of the laptop that works - success! I knew that there was a problem with the file because I've been poking around and noticed that the datastores.xml file is not open for editing - it was corrupted.

  It seems that the client does not receive a DHCP address? Assuming that the virtual network adapter in the virtual machine settings is 'connected' (which, I guess, because you said Bridged works very well), you can check if there is a problem with the installation. Please run services. MSC (or net start from the command line) to see what VMware services are running on the host computer.

  I am using Workstation 6.5 to capture a film of an installation process for documents or disaster recovery purposes.  I managed to capture a film and he can play with Windows media player, but the problem comes when I try to change it.

  Windows Movie Maker is unable to import.  I installed the decoder of the movie downloadable vmware and it does not help.

  What I would do, if possible is to decode the movie compressed to a non compressed AVI or WMV, or some other "de facto" standard format so that I can cut the bits that I need not (no one can really need to see 30-minute copy of file dialogs).

  So far, none of the solutions worked. I turned off "Large Send Offload" on each adapter that I could find on the host and the guest. Nothing. Restore these settings in any combination with other out does not work either. I edited the .vmx file and replace by vmxnet3 occurrences, and that no longer works. So far nothing I've tried has worked. I disabled all firewall and antivirus. Still nothing. When I run Guest OS Windows Network Diagnostics, I get the "your modem broadband has connectivity problems." However, I know that this is not the case. I also used the "Virtual Network Editor" to force the bridge connection to select the correct network card (in my case, it's the Intel Centrino Wireless - N 1030 wireless card), but still no luck.   So I finally the solution look. BitDefender firewall was blocking all traffic on the connection Bridged in VMware Workstation. I have disabled the firewall completely Bitdefender and Bridged Networking worked perfectly. I'll probably create another topic more precisely around Bitdefender firewall configuration to allow traffic network through Bridged from VMware.

  is it possible to install the latest version of vmware workstation (I guess that's 6.5) in a machine where vmware server 2.0 is already installed? where possible there at - it something I should know before installing vmware workstation (eg. problems known, network suspends etc.)? in particual I am a little concerned network mangement (eg. both vmware server and vmware workstation in fact add virtaul adapters: is a possible trouble caouse?). The host of the virtual machine is vista ultimate x 64 with 8gig of ram and a quad core cpu.

However is much more flexible when you don't have physical access to your VM host... so I was wondering if it is possible to get the best of both worlds : I would like to use vm ware workstation allows you to configure virtual machines and manage snapshots and vmware server to remotely manage virtual machines, I've created with workstation. Is it not possible?

  I have this laptop about a year, and I have a problem with (real) Windows Vista, Windows XP (with the video driver change). Video driver is newest without problems, except one.

  I am a new user of first element v8. I tried to load and share the video of the iPhone 4. My problem is that video input our PE is much lower quality than the original - even if I do nothing for her, just load it and share it.

  My guess is that you have installed a Microsoft Intellimouse driver. It's the mouse driver software provided with the Microsoft keyboard/mouse sets. Go to add/remove programs, uninstall the Intellimouse driver (leave the keyboard driver - it creates no problems and supports useful features of keyboard) and restart. The generic Windows mouse driver loads and works perfectly well, but corruption of travel/menu will be gone.

• Problems with Ubuntu on the Satellite M305D-S4831

  I tried to install Ubuntu and Kubuntu as a dual boot with Vista and no lets my wireless or Lan of the right function. They both say that they have restricted drivers in use, but they do not always work.

  I recently bought a HP dv6 laptop - I have only had it a few days.

  I noticed that when I try to watch on xfinity TV - I don't get the video menu bar that allows me to pause, stop and especially to go full screen.  I tried in chrome and firefox.

  I checked my other HP laptop - the bar is always there when I go to the website of xfinity - so I think its my PC and not Xfinity.

  Thoughts?

  I can go full screen when I go to other sites, like ABC, NBC etc. and watch here

  It is sometimes the simplest things.  I thought to it by chance today.  I was in Google Chrome with an open xfinity video.  Frustrated, I decided to do everything all the larger screen then I hit ctrl + several times - after which appear the video toolbar and I could enter full screen mode.
