WRT54g to loss...

Well, after a hibernation of storage, I had internet at the new House and hung the wrt54g ol'e, did a master reset and return to the factory default. My wired connection works fine, but wireless. See the router wireless computers and I even managed to do work with some tweeked settings advanced wireless security. As soon as I try and implement WEP or WSA, NO GO. None of the laptops in the House can use the net, but they are connected and show a strong signal to the router, I have played with this thing all day and would like any suggestions... I read each step by step of installation I can find, im using the keys encrypted for security settings but not wireless internet... Help please

Try to update the firmware on your router.

Connect to the computer with the Ethernet cable to the router.
Download the latest firmware from the site Web of Linksys and save it to your computer. Open the router configuration page. Click the Administration tab and switch to the sub tab upgrade the Firmware through the firmware file that you have already downloaded and update on your router.
After upgrading the firmware on the router, it is recommended that you must reset the router and reconfigure. Press and hold the reset button on the router for 30 seconds. Release the reset button and wait 10 seconds. Power cycle the router and reconfigure.

Change wireless settings. Change the SSID to create a new wireless network. Change the channel to 11 wireless.

Change the security mode to WPA Personal. Enter the password of the wireless network.

Now try to connect to the new network wirelessly on your laptop.

If it is connected to the wireless network, then check the IP address of your wireless computer.

How wireless and wired computers you have?

Who is your Internet service provider?

    Hi all

I've had my router wireless for 3 years now. I recently moved and got my internet all together towards the top. I have not used my router in a year because my former ISP gave me a two in a router. Now that I'm with my current ISP (Time Warner), I just your Basic run of the mill modem. Go ahead, I installed my router, everything goes well. An hour later, I was unable to use internet on my laptop. I checked the connections and everything is properly connected. When I ran the EasyLink Advisor its says no internet connection. I tried to update the firmware to update my drivers. I even tried connecting the router itself using the 192.168.1.1 but without success. I'm at a total loss here, been working on it for 3 days now... any help would be greatly appreciated.

A little more info: my office is running on Windows XP Service Pack 3

My ISP is Timer Warner Cable

The wireless router is the WRT54GS V7 with a Firmware updated to 7.50.

Yet of the ideas or help is greatly appreciated thanks!

Connect the Modem to your computer and check if you are able to go online or not?

If Yes, then the first thing you need to do is press and hold the reset button of your router to 1 min, then unplug the power to the router for another 30 seconds waiting and then re-connect the power supply to the router. Now, you can re - configure all settings on your router...

  • WRT54G will connect to the network but will not connect to internet

Guys, I installed an older Linksys CM100 cable modem and when I did I lost the connection to the internet using the WRT54G Router. I can connect fine net when I go to right fromt the modem cable to the pc. I can use my home network very well. I did a firmware upgrade, does not. I'm losing my mind. It worked fine before the new cable modem. Does make sense to anyone? BTW, I can't connect to the internet via wired or wireless connections and ping www.google.com gives 100% packet loss. Ditto for a ping to 192.168.1.100 (cable modem) when the router is connected.

    Dear God please help me

    -Jacob

Thus, because no one here was able to offer all the help, I called tech support and was very surprised. I was able to get a tech immediately and without going through the 1 million on the phone buttons. The service is in India, but I could communicate well enough with him, even though I usually have people of understanding of handful who speak English as a second language. The issue that I had was that the default IP of the modem cable (192.168.1.100) and ip address of the router (192.168.1.1) were too similar. Apparently, the fact that the 3rd number 1 for both series was the cause of the problem. We changed the IP address of the router to 192.168.5.1, power cycling it and unfortunately it worked.

  • WRT54G V8.2 Firmware woes

    Hi all

I tried to update my firmware for the latest and best Linksys for my router V8.2 and have some trouble. It seemed that everything was fine, but after the restart and connect to 192.168.1.1, all I get is 'Management Mode Firmware Upgrade', and he asks a file. I tried the firmware file again in this area, but it always returns just "upgrade failed" and I get nowhere.

I did some further studies in the way and tried to use the Linksys tftp tool to install the upgrade, but no luck. Beforehand, I set up the IP address of my computer and set the speed of the NIC 10 Mb half duplex. I also took a hit on the problem with tftp using the command-line of the window, but I get "timeout exceeded".

Here are the results of ping 192.168.1.1:

Ping 192.168.1.1 with 32 bytes of data:

    Reply from 192.168.1.1: bytes = 32 time<1ms ttl="">

    Ping statistics for 192.168.1.1:
    Packets: Sent = 4, received = 4, lost = 0 (0% loss),
Time approximate round trip in milli-seconds:

Does anyone have this persistant problem with their WRT54G V8.2? It's a shame how it worked so far, only to be injured by a stupid firmware update!

    Thank you

    -solidus126

After an update of the firmware, you must reset the default router, and then configure the router again from scratch.  If you have not done this since your last update of the firmware, please do it now and see if it solves your problem.  If you have saved a router configuration file, DO NOT use it.

To reset the router press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds... Release the reset button... Unplug the power cable from your router, wait 30 seconds and reconnect the power cable... Now re - configure your router...

Also, make sure that your computer is configured to obtain an IP automatically, disable any firewall, the security software on the computer before you try to access the configuration page...

  • WRT54G sleep?

Hi, I'm using a Linksys WRT54G at my house and I put it in place to allow access (VPN and RDP) working distance. I do it every day and it works perfectly. The problem I have, however, is that all morning it does not until my wife wakes up his laptop. After that, it works fine, if his phone is on or off. It behaves as if the router is "asleep", and when it generates a local network activity, he wakes up, allowing remote access.

I think it of a problem of router and not a computer problem because not only it does affect RDP and VPN, but even the remote management of the router interface is not available until this happens. Any ideas? I am at a loss!

More details on the installation of my house

    • I have a fixed IP assigned to me by my ISP
    • All the computers connect to the wireless router
    • VPN and RDP is routed to a desktop under XP SP3 computer that is always on (he never put in standby or Hibernate mode)
    • The router is enabled as DHCP (192.168.0.2 to 11) Server
    • The desktop computer is configured with a fixed IP (192.168.0.100)
    • The router is configured for VPN and RDP traffic forward on the desk

Here are a few screenshots that can be useful

    Basic configuration

    Port forward range

    Management

Virtually all the other default settings.

As I said at the beginning, my setup works perfectly and I am very happy with it. I just can't understand why every morning it does not work until my wife uses her laptop?

When I'm at work, his is the only computer on the local network is assigned an IP address by the router. Until she turns on her laptop, the DHCP client list is empty. If the router needs at least one connected unit assigned an IP address by the DHCP service in order to receive external connections?

I appreciate any help anyone can offer. Thank you!

    Brian

My ISP has started to monitor my IP to try to diagnose the problem. They ended up giving me a new static IP address, and that seems to have solved the problem. Thanks for your help!

  • WRE54G - disconnects from the WRT54G

I am now on my third WRE54G.  The symptoms that are after configuration of the RE, it connects with the router and I am able to PING with and without attached ethernet.  Life is good.   Wireless laptop connects with RE and then crashes after 2 minutes.  A repair the laptop wireless adapter to force it to reconnect to the router (to signal loss).  On a wired desktop I am able to ping without ethernet. Power cycling the RE start the cycle.

With WPA - PSK AES, channel 11, G-Mode only, 3600 for renewal group, broadcast of the SSID to the coast.  Blue on blue lights all the time.

After spending the afternoon on the phone with a very patient guy from tech support, we found that the setting MODE on the WRE54G to G-ONLY has been the cause of the problem.  I changed the MODE of JOINT and now the WRE54G and the WRT54G are very happy with each other.

  • WRT54G v3.1 (firmware v4.21.1) is not route packets between interfaces

I am at a loss, because it seems that I'm really close to having my small network of installation works, except my router linksys faithful does not seem to be interested in packages of brewing between the WAN and WLAN interfaces.

    Background:

I just moved into a new House, AT & T U-verse is taking their sweet time thought of digging a trench, so I have no wired internet, but I have a phone with 4G support that I can use as a hotspot Wi - Fi (high-end and very limited functionality).

My goal is to rebuild my local network (two servers by cable, half a dozen various wireless devices), using my WRT54G as the central routing for her component.

    Plan:

    1. install a wireless bridge that connects to the Wifi 4 G hotspot.

    2. connect ZyXel bridge to the WAN port on the WRT54G

    3. connect and other devices in LAN WRT54G and wireless interfaces.

    Results:

    1. I got a ZyXel WAP3205 to this effect, and it seems to work fine (when connected to PC, PC is to get internet access through it perfectly.)

2 seems to work fine. the linksys router is able to obtain an IP address on DHCP 4G Wifi hotspot (the Zyxel will exercise a passthrough.) The admin/diagnosis tab let me DNS resolve/ping/traceroute arbitrary sites on the internet.

3 is not happy. I am able to access the router admin page. I can ping the router from any of my devices to end IP addresses, but nothing goes further. I can not ping IP of 4G Wifi hotspot for example (but I do go in the WRT diagnostic tools)

    Details of config:

-4G - Wifi hotspot is configured as a DHCP/Gateway server. His IP address is defined as 10.10.10.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, assignment of IP addresses between 10.10.10.2 - 10.10.10.254

-WRT router is configured as a DHCP/Gateway server as well. Its local IP address is set as 192.168.1.1, subnet 255.255.255.0, IPs assignments between 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.51.

-All the rest is to default settings. Mode of operation is the gateway, routing table is showing

Destination LAN IP.  Subnet mask |  Entry door |  Hop count | Interface

    192.168.1.0. 255.255.255.0. 0.0.0.0. 0           | Wireless LAN &

    10.10.10.0 | 255.255.255.0. 0.0.0.0. 0           | WAN (Internet)

    0.0.0.0             | 0.0.0.0. 10.10.10.1. 0           | WAN (Internet)

    This seems reasonable.

-Status/router tab displays an IP WAN address 10.10.10.172, subnet 255.255.255.0, gateway 10.10.10.1, DNS1 10.10.10.1, which looks very good as well.

I tried to adjust various settings on the router (gateway in router mode switching, disable DHCP and manually configure IP addresses), but nothing seems to convince the router to start, you know, routing of packets autour.

I hope I'm missing something stupid here, and I'll be grateful for any help and judgment on this.

    Thank you

    Henri

    * Edit: I should add, I use this little guy for years previous houses, and it has always worked, even if its WAN port was always plugged into a modem cable of some sort. So I don't think that the WRT54G is likely to be broken or defective.

    Sonuva...

Apparently, the little box just need a fast walk. After a factory reset and set my wireless settings screw, it seems to work perfectly.

Well, I think that I'm talking to myself now.

Just for fun, here is the great link, I'll be sharing between devices 8 or 9:

(which is through my whole setup, even if the speed is exactly the same thing with a direct link.)

  • WRT54GS

    Hi all

I have a few questions, I would like to know if anyone here can help me.

    My setup is as follows

    Router WRT54GS wireless

2 desktop computer (xp pro) hard wired

    1 Xbox 360 hard wired

2 portable hp wireless (Vista Home)

The first problem Im having is practically every day I'll have to do a reset my router (leave to unplug a few seconds plug back in) because 2 laptops are starting to become very lag (both in the same room as the router incidentally) the Xbox 360 gets moderate nat connection to xbox live (bad connection) PC very lag when I try and connect to my router from a PC he sometimes used to connect. After the reset of the router, everything is fine no lag, xbox live connects right now I can access the router right away from my PC.

Which brings me to my next question, I thought maybe a firmware update was necessary, but after looking at the model number and the version that I was a bit puzzled.

Model number V7 WRT54GS? Unless I missed it, I can't find V7 anywhere on linksys website so do I have to update my firmware Im at a total loss here and am seriously thinking of buying a new (different) wireless router.

    Any help is appreciated

    Thanx Gollum.

Sorry to be a pain, but how did you get the firmware? The reason I ask is when I went on the lateset version of my V6 router linksys website, I couldn't find V7 anywhere.

OK Ive stumbled upon it somehow...

    Thank you once again

  • WRT54G Router by ping how-to Internet port.

    Hello world

I have a small question for you. My LAN has a main router that is configured on the linux system. And I have 2 WRT54G routers which should be the wireless access point. First question is therefore:

Is it possible to set up the routers on the Access Point mode? I have not found this option anywhere...

Second question is-> when I connected my LAN via the Internet port that I can't ping routers WRT... when I try to ping the routers I just received 100% packet loss. How do I put this activate port ping, because I would like to set up the routers via another VLAN.

Now I connect this routers via the switch port, and there the work but I want to use internet port-> appropriate in my opinion.

    Thank you for any help

    1. to use a WRT as simple access point, set it to a free LAN IP address inside your existing LAN subnet and disable the DHCP server. Then, plug the WRT via a LAN port number to your existing network. Do not use the internet port on the WRT.

    2. If you connect your WRT via the internet port (not recommended for your configuration), you must disable the "anonymous block ICMP" or similar in the Security page of the router. If you want to configure the WRT via the internet port, you need to enable remote management.

    3. I always highly recommend to connect the WRT via a LAN port, as in no. 1. It's much better. Only, you have a single subnet LAN and no cascade of routing. Also, all computers can access each other. See also here.

  • WRT54G - wireless just stopped working on all devices

    Hi all

I had my WRT54G for a few years and have my hard wired office (to the router) and 2 laptops and an ipod, wireless successfully for 2 years. Woke up this morning and nothing connects wireless, find that the router is intermittent, and when it does, it cannot establish a connection with her. I can connect the devices via the network cable directly to the router and everything works fine, it's just wireless which has suddenly stopped working.

I tried "' turning and the new" disable the WEP password changing WEP etc but nothing seems to work. " IM at a loss as to why my all just network/wireless has stopped working?

    Any ideas?

You must update the firmware of the router, then reset and reconfigure the router.

  • WRT610N (new) packet loss

I've read through the forums for a few hours and and I've seen others with this problem, but no clear solution.

I installed my new WRT610N (FW 1.00.18) and I experience packet loss when ping. When I ping from my laptop to an AT & T (4.2.2.2) DNS server, I get 20 to 40% of packet losses. In addition, the average ping time is about 15ms, but about every 5-6 ping, time passes at 1600-1900ms (sometimes as high as 3000ms). As a further test, I also ping the router directly to 192.168.1.1 and I get the same poor results.

I checked that the loss that happens between the laptop and the router. When I use the router built according to ping, I get good speeds and no loss of packets to the same address.

-J' tried this on 2.4 ghz and 5 GHz radio. I have disabled every radio to esnure test.

-J' tried to disable all the security settings on the router (using WPA2-Personal.

-J' changed the tag to 75 interval, RTS threshold to 2304 like other proposed posts and Fragmentation threshold to 2304.

-J' tried different channels on each radio.

-I went back and reinstalled my WRT54g and had no lag or loss.

I am really stuck on what to try next. I also have another little problem. Whenever I have make a change to the configuration of the router through the web interface, and I hit SAVE SETTINGS, my laptop loses the wireless connection and I have to re - select my wireless network.

Someone at - he found a solution to what seems to be an unusual problem?

Have you tried to reset hard your router for a minute and then re - configure? If not try it... Hard reset of your router for a minute and then unplug minutes power of the router... Now re - configure your router... If the same problem persists, change the security to WEP and try again... Hope that works...

  • WRT54G v.5 will remain not connected to the new laptop / Windows 7 Premium

WRT54G v.5 will remain not connected to the new laptop / Windows 7 Premium. It works continuously with a cycle detection, connection, loss of connection; detection, connection, loss of connection, etc... The router works through this cycle, basically acting as if I disconnected and then reconnected to the power to reset, it disrupts my Internet connection to my Wired iMac and wireless, another office to the floor. Paid for Linksys support today and through remote access, he put up a new network on my desktop (iMac). After finishing, the problem still exists. When I told him that the problem had not been corrected, he said just wait an hour or two and it should work itself. She, of course, did not himself. Any ideas out there?

Nevermind - I seem to have solved the problem with a simple firmware. Funny how the Linksys technician support don't think to ask what version of the router I have or suggest that I should try to upgrade firmware first. However, he is quite good at trying to upsell me for a new router instead of trying to help me solve the problem I had. It makes me want to go buy Netgear next time, thanks a lot!

  • Very disconcerting issue that happened with my WRT54G

Does anyone know what would cause my router (WRT54G) to reset to the factory settings, just out of the blue?  I have not touched the reset all button.  In fact, I was on my laptop in another room when it happened.  I lost wireless connectivity troubleshooting, I discovered that all my settings have been reset.  Even the password to access the interface on the router reset to factory default.  I was able to fix everything, but I would like to know what caused it.

At first, I thought I can have been hacked, but I have a very strong expression set with WPA2-PSK encryption key.  I also have enabled MAC filtering and only allow access to the PCs that I listed in the MAC filter list.  Fireware is also updated.

I know it is still impossible to hack, but I don't see anyone with the kind of knowledge to beat these security features want to hack my network.

Are there other reasonable explanations of why this happened?

EDIT (I forgot to add 2 things):

    1. There was a power outage here earlier in the day, but I had connectivity in less than an hour after she came on, no problem.

    2. just before that happened, I started having "a duplicate IP address has Ben detected on the network.  It was really strange, because the router distributes the IP via DHCP.  Why he would give one already in use?

This is probably because of the blackout. You can keep a backup of your settings using the backup and restore of tab or use a surge protector to prevent the loss of these parameters in case another failure happens to your router.

The problem of duplication of IP was probably due to the outage as well.

Not quite the same thing as I'm not trying to access remotely, but since the upgrade to Sierra, my iMac mid-2010 do not reconnect to the wifi in the morning.  It is not slow, it will not reconnect all until I explicitly select the network.  I don't have this problem before the Sierra, and it doesn't seem to affect my Air mid-2012 (also on the Sierra).
