Thanks for posting your query in Microsoft Community.
If your gamertag has been created for you during your initial registration of Xbox Live (which means that you have chosen yourself), you can change once. However, if you have chosen your gamertag to registration and wanting to change it later, you get an error of different profile and your Xbox Live account is charged. You may be able to transfer your gamertag to another ID Windows Live ID. If you are on a child's account, then you will need to contact the person who made the parent account to adjust your settings. See the link below on how to transfer your gamertag. If it does not my only suggestion would be to create a new Windows Live ID.

I try to get in touch with a representative of the Xbox, but have not been able to find someone who can tell what to do about this.
