Cannot install Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1.
This is my first post so im sorry if I don't give many details about my problem.
Im trying to install Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1, but whenever I open it I get a pop-up message saying "Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 requires at least .NET Framework 2.0", but that's not true, I have the .NET Framework 3.5 sp1 installed. Then I uninstalled then re-installed and then tried to install XNA 3.1 switched off, but she appeared again.I searched many sites to help until I posted it and nobody seems to have my specific problem, im full of ideas, I ran each repair tool of the .NET framework from the Microsoft site and it does not work please someone help me with my problem.Im running windows vista 32 bit.I finally solved my problem, it seems that some things from registry were missing for .net 2.0, I discovered because I fell recently an advisor to upgrade to windows 7 and it installed .net 2.0 for me without fail. I hope that if anyone else has this problem, they can do what I did. Cheers!

A quick Google search led me to another thread dedicated to the problem:
http://www.terrariaonline.com/threads/Microsoft-XNA-Framework-4-0-problem.5540/
me and user "Kaboshi" has had the same problem, and and other users said:
Download the newspaper probably will help because it will give developers more info focus on (once they're back).
For reference here is a link to another relevant article, it might not help you directly, but it could be useful for developers or those seeking on the other on the issue and has basic techniques:
http://blogs.msdn.com/b/astebner/archive/2010/12/29/10110053.aspxIn the article I posted above, he says mscoree.dll could fail to update during the installation of .NET framework 4, and the Setup program may not be aware of it. Go to your windows system32 or syswow64 folder and check the properties of mscoree.dll - if it's version 2.0 instead of 4.0 then the .NET framework has not been installed correctly. See this article for more information.
I checked mscoree.dll in my system32 folder and in the properties-> details, it indicates the version of the file / version of the product is 2.0.50727.4927 and last modified on 06/10/2009 16:40. Several messages later, one of the "nbeerbower" users seem to have found a solution:
Hey everybody! I had exactly the same problem! In fact, none of my programs using .NET 4 would work! But I searched the internet to fix this bug.
The problem is the result of .NET 4 installer never update .NET 2 mscoree.dll. So, here's the new dll and some instructions on how to solve this problem.
http://www.Megaupload.com/?d=MBCL8TKC
(if for some reason any you do not approve the download see here http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vssetup/thread/a09baa85-635d-420c-a88a-de05f75c8140 to get otherwise)Hi, I'm nbeerbower. I have trouble with my .NET 4.0 and it generated an error 2908 Installing XNA which is necessary for terrariums.
The problem is, because for some reason any .NET 4 does not update .NET 2 mscoree.dll.
Here is a "kit" to help you fix it.1. open take Ownership.reg and add registry keys. This allows you to easily replace mscoree.dll
2. go in Windows/system32 (if you have a x 64 OS also do the SAME procedure in the Windows/SysWOW64 folder)
3. find mscoree.dll and right click and take Ownership(you can alsocheck properties and see version, if it's 2.00 then this fix will work!)
4. replace the included mscoree.dll
5. repeat in SysWOW64 so you have a 64 bit OSHave fun!
-nbeerbower
P.S., Make sure that you restart your computer after!
This solves the problem for users, but I have a problem. Of course the Megaupload link no longer works and the other link.
http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vssetup/thread/a09baa85-635d-420c-a88a-de05f75c8140,
also has links; This, specifically:
2. Rename mscoree.dll. It is a real pain. Go here for the instructions (not for the fainthearted): http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/setupprerelease/thread/150d05c4-4df4-47ec-b7a6-a66f3a55cd08
It can also be connected to the issues I had with installing the .NET Framework v4.0:
Any help or the other problem is appreciated. It seems that other users have solved the problem, so there is probably a solution hidden in one of the threads that I missed.
Hey there fellow. From the outset, I would apologize for bumping this thread if the OP found a satisfactory solution to their particular issue - as well as an apology to resurrect a debate closed if it's already been resolved.
I came across this problem, try to run a particular game that required the .net framework version 4; a game that I had literally played earlier the same day. I use 32 bit Windows 7, so that the details of my solution may or may not be applicable to your situation. What I did to fix my problem was simply to repair my installations of .net Framework extended and .net Framework 4 Client Profile. After this, I restarted my computer, uninstalled my XNA Framework and reinstalled. After that, the game starts and runs without a problem.
Not sure if my problem was an exception or if it will help someone else situation, but I thought I'd post my experience just in case it would be of any help. Good luck out there.

Windows vista 32 bit progams are installed twice!
In programs and features on the windows vista 32-bit sp2 it is:
Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime Native v1.0 (x 86) 624KB
Microsoft Sync Framework Runtime Native v1.0(x86) 1.44 MB are installed twice on 06/04/10
MSXML4.0 SP2 KB954430 35 MB
MSXML4.0 SP2 33 MB KB973688 are both installed on 05/04/10
There is also Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed on 05/04/10
and the last is: Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 ATL update KB 973923-86 8.0.50727.4053 installed on 06/04/10
Do I need all these programs on this computer?
I made a full recovery from this computer on 04/04/10 and constantly updates are installed. SP2 was installed today. I watched the KB articles and found that some of these programs were not made for this vista. Is this OK to uninstall?
I don't think these programs are duplicates there are has some differences in the size or number of KB?
Short, if it is not correct, answer is that if they went down via Windows updates, then, Yes, you have probably them.
You can confirm this, if you wish, by creating a system restore point, and then uninstall programs. If Windows Update when it is run manually tells that you need, then I guess you really need. You use the system restore point to return to the front you have uninstalled, or the download via Windows Update.
Using Windows 7 or Vista System Restore
http://www.howtogeek.com/HOWTO/Windows-Vista/using-Windows-Vista-system-restore/My advice is to leave things alone, unless you are like me and like a good violin, followed by the mandatory installation of the operating system.
What is your backup plan?

Updates Windows 7 32 bit.
For about a year or more, I started to have issues of update. I blame my computer vista at first and eventually got rid of it. The computer that I have now is no different. Is a 32-bit windows 7 Home premium. About half of the updates failed. Too much for a manual installation. It seems to slow down my computer and makes it run a bit erratic. I completely reinstalled windows 7 a couple of times and started from scratch. Microsoft has been guilty of a few tricks to get people to get windows 10, as saying that the upgrade to 10 update has been marked as important by accident. Despite this, they have made no effort to relabel it. The fix for Microsoft tool makes no difference. I was wondering in the back of my mind, if it was deliberate of our machines by Microsoft sabotage. I was shocked when I came here and saw how have the same idea. Surely, this must be against the law. If it's because of Microsoft, is there anything we can do? I hope that some lawyers may have had this problem and know who to contact. I wrote to Microsoft and have had no response. I just bought a book of chrome and if I like it, I'll accept the fact that I've been screwed by Microsoft and because they are bigger than me, I can't do anything about. At the same time, they profited not screwing me, they may lose a customer if I get to love the book of chrome. They have proven that they will use sneaky tactics to get their own way so if us and accept the 10, which is to say they do the same thing again?
It is expected by M$, we must now jump through hoops to clean install.
