XP Antivirus 2011 malware

Apologies for the long stretched to follow events first. As I'm not anyway in computer science I think it is better to describe what may or may not be relevant.

I recently found on my desktop pc (I use my laptop now) a "Windows Security Center" warning appears indicating "XP Antivirus unregistered version 2011" it supposed to be scanned my office and found several critical system objects detected and can violate and operate the system etc etc. It was obviously malware that he was trying to make me buy a product that I of course don't do not immediately disconnected internet and shut down the pc, because he would not allow my antivirus AVG to get rid of him. The malware also had somehow closed the Windows Firewall.

When I started my office a few hours later I was unable to access anything and 'windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You can not have the appropriate permissions to access the item. "appeared.

Close again the pc down and does not turn back on for several more days.

I was informed by a TI colleague to go to mailwarebytes.org and download on cd so that a report can be run on the desktop computer to check if everything is OK the problem.
