XPS 8500 PCIe eSATA support

Just got my new 8500 XPS, which is really nice (quiet, a great performance) - but I have a problem my PCIe eSATA card works properly.

The PCIe eSATA EC2 is certainly functional, I used it in an XPS 420 and checked, it still works - but now when I insert in one of the 3 slots 1 PCIe x 16 of the XPS 8500, it is not recognized by either the BIOS of 8500 XPS during post or in the operating system (Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit).

Previously, the eSATA device would allow me to press Ctrl + S for the post to run diagnostics on the XPS 420 but not so on the XPS 8500.  When I go to the XPS 8500 (using F2) Setup screen I don't see any options that could help me.

Anyone know what might cause this behavior?  It is a known that this could be addressed in a future BIOS update?

Ditto for most of the post above.

Even if I was not initially pressed to update and suggests even if you didn't really need to just let it be, I decided to take the plunge after reading all the patches and updates that accompanies this BIOS update. It went perfectly, took less than 10 minutes from start to finish. No problem and I was not remove or unplug anything.

Info on what it fixes etc.

  • How to install WLAN PCIe wireless card N 1525 in Dell XPS 8500?

I have a system Dell XPS 9100 which has a Dell Wireless - N 1525 PCIe WLAN card (a, g, b, d) I would like to transfer into my new Dell 8500, which comes with a mini-map half 1703 of Dell Wireless WLAN (b/g/n). This is because Dell 1525 is dual band and is faster than the Dell 1525. I would like to get some advice if possible and the installation of the Wireless N 1525 in the 8500 XPS WLAN PCIe card (and replacing the mini-map half 1703). Thanks in advance!

    Hi mikeraj,

Thanks for the reply. There is no need to uninstall the Dell Wireless 1703 card drivers. You can get away without uninstalling the drivers

Then insert the Dell 1525 Wireless card and install its drivers.

I hope this helps. I am happy to help others.

  • XPS 8700 - incompatibility eSATA card

    Hello

I have read elsewhere on the incompatibility between a Dell XPS 8500 and a PCIe 1 X eSATA card that the user had installed.  The user declares that the card was not recognized by Device Manager and thus went inoperative.  I don't remember the problem is resolved.

Of course, I didn't read about this problem when I too lived the same problem on my XPS 8700.  I installed a new card eSATA PCIe 1 x slot and Bingo! -absolutely nothing.

I don't think that the PF to this problem are relevant because the XPS specification is concerned there is no card on board.  Updated XPS to update its BIOS bit after I ordered new computer (about 2 weeks).

Does anyone have any ideas or solutions to try?

Is that what someone else has similar problems and, if so, Dell "on the case"?

    Best regards

    Mike

There are 2 questions and none of them are associated with Dell.

Safe Boot must be off CSM and legacy with Roma option on.

The card must be PCI-E version 2.1 or 3.0 to work. The power supply of the bus and clock speed are not compatible to 1.0 or 2.0.

OLDER PCI - E 1.0 and 2.0 cards will be "seen" because the PCI-E bus will not downclock to version

    1.0 on the X 1 slot.

  • XPS 8500 card video, power, upgrades

I see several threads looking for upgrades XPS 8500 graphics card that can be used with the stock PSU 460w or improved power supply.   However, in upgrading the GPU for this machine, there are a few cards that are not compatible and will result in a black screen.    Even with a correct video card installation, an appropriate power supply and/or upgrade video card fans are going to work, but there is no video.   The problem lies in the BIOS to 8500 XPS motherboard does not recognize the video card and it is a known issue that has carried over from the XPS 8300 to the current XPS 8500.

There was a video BIOS updates of some card manufacturers to fix this problem for some cards, but there are many old maps that do not work.  The safest bet would be to use a new card with the PCI 3.0 specifications.

In the sticky in this forum, a link to the current Dell drivers shows the following video cards that support drivers for Windows 8:

Since it's cards Dell OEM that are supported, there are also specific questions from manufacturer where a given video card model may or may not work according to its configuration.  Considering that an XFX HD 6870 will work in the XPS 8500, the same map made by another manufacturer may not work.

Please consider this when you do upgrades of the PSU and GPU and, hopefully, BIOS upgrades in the future will answer these questions.

It would be useful if you have a SPECIFIC card that does or does not, to indicate the manufacturer and the model number full in this thread.

Operating system information and the Bios would be also useful, and if you use the power SUPPLY Dell or a block upgrade of power.  Specific model please!

    Edit:

Please include following and other useful information

Manufacturer number and model of graphics card:

    BIOS:

    Operating system:

Power supply manufacturer otherwise Dell 460w PSU:

    Compatible: Yes or no

Original card with the system that has worked:

I just installed a GTX 970 in my Dell XPS 8500 with questions for the first time.

    It's pieces:

    • Updated my XPS 8500 Motherboard Bios to version "A12" while you wait for my parts arrive
    • EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 Superclocked Graphics Card (EVGA 04 G-2974-KR)
    • EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 750W power supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR)

Note that I have chosen the 'Return of the fan' version of the card, rather than the version dual fan ATX 2.0.  This is because the design of the housing of the 8500 XPS is not 'Great' traffic.   The style of 'Référence' (shell solid video card with a single fan - which pulls air from the case in... and vents at the rear of the PC) is better suited to the XPS.

Put a new power supply in a Dell XPS 8500 is a little something.   All ATX power supplies were about the same height and width (150mm or 5.09 ") and (86mm or 3.38").    The problem is the depth.   How deep into your PC can reach (extending to the back of your CD/DVD).   Don't forget, you have this tiny USB/headphone jack thing sunk to half way:

I did some steps and realized that MAX PSU depth that would work would be approximately 165mm or about 6.5 ".     It's difficult because I wanted a 750w power supply more power and its REALLY, REALLY hard to find good food slot with less than (180 mm/7.09 "").   And who didn't come home.

I have scoured every Watt 700 +, 80 + certified PSU carried by Newegg (from 01/12/2014).   Then, I checked cross the specs from newegg for each prospect with the manufacter to audit Web site.  I focused only on PSU at least 8 comments and then only if they have averaged a 3.5 rating (unless the low notes were for trivial things like discount).

After having looked up the plug on more than 200 of the PSU (over a period of 5 hours), I only came with 5 potential:

    • EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 $69.99
    • MARINE RX-1000AE 1000W $119.99
    • SeaSonic SS - 750KM 3 750W $139.99
    • CORSAIR AX series AX760 $159.99
    • Coolmax 1200W ZPG-1200 b $282,35

I also want to remind the reason why you MUST make sure that your power supply is 165mm or less in depth, and you can't say anything by looking at a a particular series.   Many unique models factory in a series which is just 'smaller '.   You have to look at the specifications of each individual model.

For example, all except a psu on 700 wats EVGA are (180 mm/7.09 po).  Only 750B 1 is about 165mm.   You will also see that he is a 'Bronze' rather than 'Gold' or 'Platinum' unit 80 +.    I suspect it's "BRONZE" side has something to do with the size.   I they omitted huge heat sinks and a little efficiency to achieve the reduction of 15mm in size.   The quality of the PSU is always more than enough for my needs, and the price can not be beat.

Now for the installation.   I won't say it was EASY to get the power supply into the case.  I had to unplug all my SATA power supply and cables.  I had to bend the cables on top of ATX case a little, and I had to be very patient reconnection.

I also had to reroute the wire connecting the top of the case to the Mini PCI (?) card slot.   I didn't honestly it only those who were (they sit behind the rear USB sockets on the motherboard), and they snap on with small quotes as the clichés about the Jeans.  I tried to not interrupt them (because they look fragile), but I accidentally their popped.   Thank God they fix on.  There are even small arrows above each terminal (a black solid, outline to indicate white) so get back you them on in the right order.

I found it very convenient for stuff a lot of cables in the vacuum "floppy" spot below the CD player.   I also found that I had to plug in the cables in a certain order - because some cables blocked the access to the terminals for others.   (SATA/Power to the CD player, for example is right behind UAP.  I had to do these first, because I would never get my fingers here if I saved that for the end).

Now for the pre-installation preparation.   I updated the BIOS to A12 and downloaded the installer for the GeForce drivers before moving on my hardware.

Driver Bios A12 two years ago, but they allowed detection of my GTX 970.  Someone asked me for the version of the drivers, so this is:

Dell XPS 8500 / Vostro 470 system BIOS
    A12. EXE
    Release date October 29, 2013
    Last updated October 31, 2013
    Version A12

As I said at the beginning, I was on the A09, but A12 is cumulative and takes you all the way (including all versions in the meantime).

I uninstalled all my old ATI drivers until I stopped the first time.  I did install the Geforce drivers until after I went on my hardware.  (I wanted just the installer on my desktop - ready and waiting).

Overall - it worked.  The map spans 2-4 "later in the case, but it fits.  The power supply is approximately 4 "away from the back of the CD, but it fits.   And it starts.

I just finished playing "Far Cry 4' on the Nvidia setting 2560 x 1080.   The new parameter (beyond ultimate) appeared after I plugged on the map.  I also played Assassins Creed Unity (which is what I chose as my free with the card game - since I already had 4 Far Cry).   The two seem to play 60 fps with no problems.

Because of the fan on the power SUPPLY and the evacuation from the rear video card, my machine works currently more cool now.

Hope that helps.   My total cost was about $435.  $349 for the card and $69 for the power supply (taxes extra).

    Sincere greetings,

    Andrew Russell

P.S. If you have questions about this weird brace to the right of the PSU...   I added a 3rd hard drive under the CD player.  There is only the 'Front holes' so I'm a little creative and put up one of the "PCI mounting plates" from an old ATX case.   I folded the right-hand curve and he the perfect length to attach as a cross tube to keep the hard drive in place.

  • Replacement of ATI cards in XPS 8500

Im looking to buy an XPS 8500 system to replace my old, but faithful, XPS 720, when Dell begins to deliver systems with Win 8 onboard in native mode. My question is if I can replace the ATI onbard with an a nVidia card like nVidia n guy? Thank you!

    Eric

Yes.  AMD or Nvidia cards will work.  With the new 8500, I'd look for recent PCI Express 3.0 cards because the motherboard will support them.  Therefore, the 7000 series AMD or Nvidia 600 series.  More Nvidia GTX 600 cards will be released if all goes well, by the time you want to get one that will work with your diet.  Do not forget that the 8500 XPS will have only one unit of 460 watts compared to what you have on your 720 which is either 750 or 1000 watts.

  • Conflicting responses from the Dell on Radeon HD rep 7870 GPU switch to my xps 8500!

OK, I'm a little confused as to this what are my options. First of all, here are my PC specs:

    Dell XPS 8500

    Intel i7 3770

    GPU GeForce GT 620

    1080 p @ 60 GHz Dell moniter 24 "

    460 Watt power

    Windows 8

    1 TB HD

As you can see a GPU upgrade is in the defined order. After some exhaustive research, through these forums and elsewhere, I came to the conclusion that an AMD Radeon HD 7870 is a level accepted for the 8500 XPS is based on the fact that it is an upgrade option during the build process when ordering as well as recommendations specific to Dell in these forums. I understand that the card requires a minimum of 500 watts and my computer only has a 460 Watt power supply. I can only speculate that Dell has tested and approved this set upwards. So, I ordered a Powercolor Radeon Hd 7870 high grade of my system.

Here's the problem: I am concerned that the 8500 XPS accepts only HD 7870 from a manufacturer so I was chatting online with a Dell representative this morning that not only told me that the Powercolor will not work, but also, the AMD Radeon HD 7870 will not work. I'm really confused. Who is right and who is wrong. The representative of Dell, I chatted with that also informed me that food is not up-dimmable (which, I have to disagree). He also gave me a link to a generic list of the dell offers GPU on its Web site that was unnecessary.

I need some clarification on this. At any improved successfully / unsuccessfully to either of these two GPU with a similar setup as mine?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Dimebag1976

    Thanks HanoverB,

Here is the link to the map of power supply, I ordered. www.NCIX.ca/products

I agree with Chris M response too. All frustrated by the lack of knowledge of the other REP should have just asked in the forums instead.

    I appreciate your efforts!

AX7870 2GBD5-2DH is a reference map of running at stock speeds and should work on the supply POWER Dell as he pulls ~ 175W of what I was able to research.

Here is a close-up of the back of the card and Powercolor uses the PCB of the AMD, so as long as it is not a video bios problem (and there won't be that Dell supports this map of Pitcairn XT in list of Chris') it will probably work

    Photo is here:

I would say, install it and give it a go!

  • Chirping noise XPS 8500

OK, I guess that it is a disk problem, but it could be anything.  My system makes a sound sometimes.  I've not linked iot any specific activity.  Sometimes when I click select in a dialog box, sometimes when I access a partition in Windows Explorer, sometimes, when I don't seem to be actively done anything.

It is very similar to a baby bird doing a single short trill, crossed with a beep from the computer (the old kind that systems do when starting / days BACK when there weren't so many stakeholders).

He is not related to the disk activity - I copied large quantities of files, I burned the DVD, I partitioned the drive, with no. or occasional same warning tones.

I turned off sounds and turned off the speakers - it is not windows, it's the turn of 8500 XPS.

Looks like it's at the front near the bottom (where the HDD is? maybe).  The system has an SSD of 32 GB installed I've ever been able to access - I think it is configured to be a cache drive in some software Intel preinstalled on the system-= I do not know exactly where (I think under my very large graphics card), but if it's near the front and only accationally wrote in hiding It is possible that things are.

The HDD also usually light scraping noise as is access to the disk, whenever I have first of all open the windows Explorer, but not for more than a few seconds, so I think it might be normal.  This 2 TB is the largest disc (and first SATA) I've ever owned, so I don't know what's normal quirks are.

Please help this beep / beep crazy me (well, nuts more than usual).

    Thank you.

  • Has no updated BIOS - Dell XPS 8500

I went to the product page Dell for my computer - Dell XPS 8500 and ran the scan to check the updates.  3 updates, one of them for the BIOS.  I ran the update and launched the update of the BIOS.  To halfway through she seemed to have hung up and my machine froze.  I left for an hour, came back and no still no luck.

So I rebooted the machine, and of course now it does not start upward.  I have power and can hear the fan but no lights on the box and no input screen.

Looking in the manual and on this forum, I tried to reset the BIOS jumpers and remove the CMOS battery.  When I rebooted I saw lights on the box this time, but it stops after 30 seconds and now back to the same problem.

From what I've read on this forum I'm SOL unless I have buy a new motherboard.

Just thought I would check to see if anyone has any other suggestions.  If not, where can I get a new motherboard for this?  The product page for my model it does not list as an option...

    Thanks for your help!

    Jason

When your warranty has expired? If it has expired less than 6 months ago, you pourriez able to get Dell to solve this problem, assuming they can get the Board of Directors. They had a policy to replace a Board - only once - if she does not have a Dell BIOS update within 6 months after the end of the warranty. I don't know if this policy still exists.

Those are all different revisions of the same motherboard. I don't know what the differences are. They could be as simple as a different provider for one of the components on the card all the way to a change in the circuit layout.

Maybe Dell spare parts can talk you about the differences among the 3 or at least tell you which is the most recent revision, even if they do not have boards the...?

All three supports H77 chipset which is a key issue.

Look at your motherboard for the thumbnail see what version you have now. If you don't know the specific differences, you can get one that is the same version, assuming that it is one of the possible choices.

You should look elsewhere if the Impact is not the revision you want and/or for price comparisons. And always ask if the Board is new, used, refurbished and warranty.

  • Screws for msata for XPS 8500 card card mother screwposts (informative)

I ordered a Crucial msata for my XPS 8500 card.  Installing an msata card requires two screws to CAPSA map for the two screwposts on the motherboard.  Crucial does not include screws and neither does Dell.  Working with Dell I was able to identify the specifications for the required screw neeeded anchor map msata in positions.  Without the screws an msata card will fall just out of the slot msata.  For any of you out there with the same need is the specification of the screw:

    SCR:M2X3:KSH:MS:BLO

The screws are tiny metric screws and without the specs, they are incredibly hard to find.  No specification on page 58 of the Dell XPS 8500 manual, which is where the diagram is for installing an msata card.  Dell is expected to add this info in a footnote on page 58.

Note to Dell's Support staff who might be reading this: this specification of screws for the use of other customers of the file.

I bought a portable screw Kit made by Rhino Fry Electronics which had the screws in it. These are screws x3mm m2. The kit is the AS-11 model number. Bar code is 8 54190 00103 9.  Rhino has a websit - www.rhino-tek.com.  You can also find them on ebay.  Anyway, I put a map of msata Crucial 256 MB in my XPS 8500 and am a happy camper with her.

  • XPS 8500, AMD 7570, U2715H, maximum resolution?

I have a 8500 XPS with the AMD Radeon 7570 hooked the HDMI output of the card to HDMI on the monitor and I cannot get resolution 2048 x 1152. Should I buy an updated video card? I want to get my new monitor U2715H maximum resolution.

    Thanks for any help. Mike

It seems that the Dell OEM AMD Radeon 7570 has only one exit HDMI and DVI - I DL. HDMI U2715H max is 2048 x 1152. You need to invest in a PCIe x 16 CDM video card that runs using the XPS 8500 460w power supply or DP. If you get one that has outside CDM, you can use the Dell mDP to DP cable. If you get one that has outside DP, you will need to buy a cable to DP to DP.

  • Dell XPS 8500 with 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7570 - how to connect two monitors or?

Hi, I got my Dell XPS 8500 today with the 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7570.

Before buying the office, I read online that the AMD Radeon HD 7570 supports Eyefinity.   Eyefinity is supposed to be capable of supporting 4 monitors using the HD 7570 map by the description here: http://www.amd.com/us/products/desktop/graphics/7000/7570/Pages/radeon-7570.aspx#2

When you look at the photos of the Dell XPS 8500 online I thought that Eyefinity support was to use a display in addition to the DVI port Port.   Specifically, I thought that a monitor has been supported by DVI monitors while 4 thru two supported using an active connection to the view port using a product like the DisplayPort Accell UltraAV K087B-005 / 3 x multi-monitor DVI - D single-link adapter.

To my surprise the graphics card came with an HDMI port, not a display port and I believe that HDMI port is a connection from one to the other, and not one of many display connection.   Maybe someone can correct me if I am wrong on this point.   But if I'm not wrong then, this would imply that, at most, the Dell XPS 8500 with the AMD Radeon HD card 7570 can support up to only 2 monitors (one DVI port) and the other HDMI port instead of 4 monitors as described on the above link.

Others would agree with this statement?

Note that the Dell XPS 8500 also has a VGA connector on it but I tested it using a monitor on VGA and a monitor on the DVI connection and the computer that reported as an invalid monitor config.   Probably because the VGA and DVI connections are originally the same video display as connect two monitors to display even has no logical sense.

I have not tested the HDMI port for the second monitor again mainly because I don't have a spare HDMI cable on site at the present time.   I'll probably buy one tomorrow unless I see the comments of my post, specifying that a second monitor can be moved through the HDMI port on the AMD Radeon HD 7570 map...   I'd be surprised if that were the case (1 monitor system would be quite restrictive), but it is difficult to say with certainty, because the VGA and DVI connections at the same time have been marked by the computer as an invalid configuration...

Any thoughts on the different ways to configure multiple monitors with the XPS 8500 and the 1 GB AMD Radeon HD 7500 is appreciated.

    Thank you.

    Doug

If the card is not a display port is not an eyefinity card and cannot stand 3 monitors... it will be 2 monitors, no problem... I couldn't find anywhere on the site of Dell, where he says that the card was eyefinity... If you want 3 assumption of monitors you can buy a video card that supports.

  • XPS 8500 (early 2012) 1703 WLAN Bluetooth replacements not working / compatible

I have a XPS 8500 (early 2012). A few months ago, the Bluetooth works OK. A few days earlier, he ceased to recognize all the devices in the region (explore ipad, iPhone, Cricut, LG phone, etc.). In addition, the bluetooth devices there is place could see is no longer the computer as well (Yes, discovery has been enabled). I opened the file and checked that there is a mini DW1703 WLAN PCIe card installed. All the drivers installed and are ongoing. The system indicates that all devices are working correctly. I deleted all the software/drivers and reinstalled several times. The WIFI feature works OK, just the Bluetooth does not work. First of all, can tell me what other wireless with Bluetooth cards will work properly in this system? When I talked to Dell parts department, they had no card DW1703 or DW1704 to spare in stock. In the meantime, I ordered a USB Bluetooth stick, but still want to replace the card since if Bluetooth is bad on the map, it is unclear how long the rest of the card can operate before the failure. I was watching a 3160 Intel Dual AC + Bluetooth mini PCIe card. It would be an acceptable card to use in the XPS 8500? Also, on a side note, when I talked to parts of Dell, told me that the Bluetooth is integrated directly on the motherboard and if I don't use a USB Bluetooth key, I need to replace the mother any function Bluetooth card. Is not correct, since the maps provided by Dell in this system are a combo WIFI + Bluetooth WLAN card. Any suggestions on what I can try that I did not mention in case the card is not bad? Then, what is acceptable as a replacement card, by Dell, Dell is currently out of stock on the maps of 1703 and 1704?

I installed an Intel 7260.HMWG network. Revised R WiFi wireless - AC 7260 H/T dual band 2 x 2 AC + Bluetooth about two months and it works great.  I have a router AC and installed the latest Intel drivers from their site.  I highly recommend it.  Let me know if you have any questions.  It took about 10 minutes to install.  I understand that the 7260 is twice faster than the 3160 and it only cost about $10 more.

Hello, I am looking for the Dell XPS 8500, and it comes with an SSD of 32 GB and 2 TB HARD drive and I was wondering if it is possible to add a hard drive of 1 to 3 rd.

    That is right.

If you want Dell to set up the machine and then control the machine with 256 GB SSD that will have the OS already installed + 2 TB hard drive. . Plug and play with full support on their installation.

There are a few changes, you need to do in the BIOS in the different stages of a plant itself and a search of this site has them in detail.  If you feel challenged, better to leave Dell to do.

However, if you choose to do it yourself, you can buy the machine without the msata SSD 32 GB, just buy the disk of 1 TB or 2 TB when you order the machine.  The DVAR would be the Crucial CT256M4SSD3.  You will need a few screw M2 x 3mm mounting which may or may not come with the drive.  It will take place at the 6 GB/s specified.   CT256M4SSD3 and CT3256232 (XPS 8500 recommended upgrade) are the same drive, if you see in searches on the web.

  • XPS 8500 upgrade to SSD

    looking to upgrade to SSD

found v4 Crucial ssd of 32 GB with support for install

you wonder if this will be fine as primary drive and keep the 1 TB drive already installed as storage device

    price looks ok

any advice or assistance would be appreciated

Do not forget that this system can work at 6 GB/s and the v4 can only run at 3 GB/s so an m4 would be better.

This system has an mSATA port which is probably unoccupied. Also, I think that 32 GB is too little too small to install a Windows 7 operating system, I managed to install the operating system and office on a 64 GB we (my documents and files are elsewhere) and it is a boost for space; If you can afford it, I'd recommend the m4 SSD 128 GB mSATA: http://www.crucial.com/uk/store/mpartspecs.aspx?mtbpoid=050B0AA0A5CA7304

Such a small disc can function as a Disk Cache, but it is more worth than his worth to implement.
