XPS 8700 downgraded to Windows 7 - USB 3.0 Driver Install questions

Hi all

I got some 8700 XPS machines to Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and everything works fine except that USB 3.0 drivers will not be installed.

Listed under the drivers list is: http://www.dell.com/support/drivers/us/en/19/driverdetails?driverid=1TH4K

However, when I try to install it, it gives me an error before it even loads:

"This computer does not meet the minimum requirements for the installation of this software."

I know for a fact that this computer is equipped with her because I was playing with him on Windows 8 before decommissioning. All ports are working very well, but they are not only recognized as 3.0. I even tried to do it by extracting the files manually and update (universal serial (USB) Bus controller) Device Manager but it tells me that it cannot find the driver for it.

Thank you for reading and I hope someone can help me understand something.

-Ray

Okay I found the reason why. Pilots who gave the site of dell has been for the family chipsets Intel® 7 series/C216. What I had was the 8 series.

Get it from here and it works now:

Dell support thank you do not want to support me just because I bought a copy of Windows 7 Pro retail! : thumbsup:

  • Windows 8 USB 3.0 driver generic Microsoft does not properly

    Hello

On my Gigabyte UD5H + i3770K, Windows 8 Pro and USB 3.0 microsoft driver does not work correctly.

Back usb 3.0 ports work well (VIA). But the work of all other speeds (USB hub inside) with USB 2.0. Windows 7 USB 3 are all good.

Propably there is a bug with Microsoft USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller. I don't know if the problem is with VIA VL810 or intel. I think it's Intel chipset usb and VIA works very well. But certainly there is a bug with Microsoft Extensible host controller. On Windows 7 with Intel® USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Driver version 1.0.6.245, everything was impeccable.

So basically Microsoft USB 3.0 driver works for some ports and not for others. Still buggy. Work on 4 of my 10 ports USB 3.0...

    Yes, I agree.

Install Windows 7 drivers from the CD that came with the motherboard has solved the problem for me.
I now have respectable transfer rates (150 MB/s or better).
    Thank you!
  • Windows Update, interfering with the driver installed?

New Dell with Windows 7 64 bit.  Worked well for a while.  But as I continued to install my programs and devices, at any given time, the NIC stop working.  Indication if there is no driver installed.  All - tried reinstalling Dell disk, new download from the Realtek site, other corrections after discussion with the Dell technician.  Without success until I fact a "Reinstall upgrade' to Win 7 from the disk.  Fixed.

Now, the same thing happened with my Kodak 5300 USB all-in-one printer.  He was 'almost' fine - double-sided wasn't working.  Downloaded and installed the most recent driver from Kodak.  No solution, but at least it still, worked until yesterday.  Does not print at all and, as the situation of NIC, indication was driver problem.  Has gone through the same process but each time that Setup returns 'driver installation failed. "

Thought I'd check Windows Update.  There, listed under optional updates, were drivers for the NETWORK card and the printer. (The update of NIC was sitting there, I guess that for some time.)  I thought 'Great' and them selected for installation.  Same thing: installation failed.  The Windows Update window provides error 800F020B code «»

I guess that I can fix it by doing a reinstall of Windows again - but what a pain!  Because it happened twice in a month, I think that there must be a better way!

I'm puzzled as to why the map updates NETWORK and printer published in Updater.  Maybe because when I was trying to pilot facilities, it automatically checks for the latest files to install?  Then download them via updater?

    Anyway, if anyone can help...

Thanks for the tips.  The only way I could get the printer even be recognized has been once again to do an upgrade (repair) re - install Windows 7.  Then ran the original install disc for the printer, who got on the list of devices, but it wouldn't work.  So re-directed the installation of Kodak web page was updated, and this time it worked!  So far so good.  I am still confused as to why the update of Windows watch downloads of optional upgrade for both devices (printer and NIC) I had trouble with.  Everything is working now, so I'm not going to run files in the update.  BTW, I was able to 'hide' these updates, but not remove them.  Hide is OK, but it seems that there should be a way to permanently delete.

    Thanks again.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - failure of the keyboard when the bios boot (but not when Windows is loaded)

My Dell XPS 8700 has 10 Windows and a Logitech Keyboard wireless, connected by USB. The keyboard works absolutely fine when Windows has loaded. I have the latest version of the bios, A11.

However, when the computer is turned on and starts the bios start, it displays 'Keyboard Failure' on the screen for about half a second. When I try to go into the bios setup by pressing "F2" at the counter (I keep typing "F2" from the moment when I press the power button on the computer), there is no answer. The "keyboard failure" and inability to enter the bios setup seems to happen if I do a cold immediately after a stop start, a cold start after the computer is turned off for an extended period or a reboot.

I tried to connect the wired keyboard original Dell one of the USB ports on the front of the unit (without disconnecting the wireless keyboard) with the same problem at the start of the bios.

I encountered this problem on versions of bios A11 both A03. I know that in the past, although I don't remember when - I was able to enter the bios setup by pressing "F2".

Any thoughts on how to solve this problem?

You can try and reset the CMOS. It will return your settings to factory settings, but not the version. Usually, this erases these problems because CMOS stores data editable such as your wireless keyboard settings. BIOS stores the information about the basic material that is unchangable as your keyboard usb, mouse and other essential equipment. If you notice, when you just plugin any keyboard and mouse, its recognized at startup. Your needs software to run wireless device and that is stored in the CMOS.

So once reset you the CMOS, you may need to then install the wireless software.

    Good luck.

  • Adding a DVD - RW drive for a XPS 8700.

I just bought an XPS 8700 provided with Windows 7 (my choice) and one disc of 12 x DVD - RW. This machine replaces a decade old Dimension 8400.  I want to add a second DVD disc to avoid the shuffle of disk by making copies.

The last time I did was when they were still using old PATA drives where the drive data cable was the old ribbon cable and you used a splitter to the power cable.

I have never installed a SATA drive so I have a few questions.  When I order my second drive, what wires I need to complete the installation - or is all the wiring already in the computer?

One last question is the format used in the 8700 XPS and how to remove the coup de grace in the drive Bay?

Thanks for any advice - Tom

    TomHF

You need to buy a DVD/RW SATA drive 5.25 "similar on the drive shown here:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16827106289

A data SATA 18 "cable is necessary, there should be a spare cable/power connector SATA inside of the case for a second optical drive.

One end of the SATA data cable is connected to the optical drive and the other to a SATA connector located on the motherboard [page 13].

Two 6-32 X 1/4 screws are necessary to install the drive in the Bay.

The installation procedures of the player can be found here:

Greetings to "how to remove the coup de grace in the Bay.

You can use the same instructions as given for the hard disk, on page 42.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - secondary SATA Hard Drives don't appear not

I tried to install two additional hard drives on my new XPS 8700. The machine came with the primary drive connected to the SATA 0 and the DVD drive connected to the SATA 1. When I installed two additional hard drives, I put in the SATA 2 & 3 ports. Hard drives appeared in Windows (8.1), nor in the BIOS. I played a bit with ports SATA 2 & 4 and 3 & 4. Hard drives are not recognized. When I looked in disk management, they weren't there. As a last resort, I unplugged the DVD player SATA cable and plugged the cable on one of the secondary hard drives (which was then attached to the SATA 1 port) to connect the DVD player to the SATA 2 this drive cable port. When I started my computer, all drives have become visible. I don't know why. SATA cables I used comes from a 5 year old computer (like hard drives). Was it a problem with the cables, or is it a problem of SATA port? The first disc hard school should go in port SATA 1?

I searched the forum and couldn't find a similar problem (http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3514/t/19520798.aspx). Eventually, the person back to his computer.

    alexsyseng,

for the most part, you are right. I had this same problem as well, but I already had the a06 bios. the problem is with the uefi bios feature. its ment to be safer, but causes problems when adding disks. I tried your suggestion to change the secure boot options, but it does not work for me. I found the solution by chance when I went from uefi boot inherited so that I could use my cd discpart of secure erase my ssd.

so here's the solution, whenever you add a drive, you will pass the bios in legacy mode, then return to the uefi mode. If your computer came with windows 8 then more than likely your bios is set to uefi. When you switch the bios the legacy of your desire to computer error and you say that he has not found any what boot drives. No worries, switch to that return to uefi, reboot and now your system will start properly and all your disks will be visible in the windows and disk management. no need to replace your motherboard. Unfortunately, I spent two hours with tech support and they didn't know that either.

  • XPS 8700 adding Second hard drive

Hello - I bought recently for a XPS 8700 and I would add a second 1 to HDD - like this:

    http://www.Newegg.com/product/product.aspx?item=N82E16822148840

This HARD - ST1000DM003 - drive looks identical to the factory installed HDD in my XPS 8700 - SCSI\DiskATA___ST1000DM003-1CH1CC47

Is - this HARD drive identical or close to my OEM HARD drive?  That's fine with me.  I didn't need a lot of space - just need a backup disk.

1.) do I need a HARD drive caddy any?  I did not open the folder again. I do not believe after looking at manuals online, but wanted to be sure.

2.) these screws will work to set up the second HDD in the cage?

3.) cable SATA which should I buy?  Manufacturer, length, type, etc.

4.) is feeding OK with respect to capacity with a second HDD?

    Thank you. !  Sam

Update - I installed the internal hard drive, which I purchased from Newegg.  8700 XPS recognized the drive.  All I had to do was to format the drive.

Here are the things I bought.  The XPS 8700 is equipped with a stand to hold the second hard drive.  Thanks Bev.

  • XPS 8700 faster?

OK so I xps8700 and want to make it faster, I like speed. Some say go with card PCIe SSD x 4

Some say mSATA is just as fast and you can start of one or the other.  Price is not a factor

EDIT: ignore the PCIe x 4 comments. It seems that the 8700 crack that resembles a PCIe x 4 is not working at full speed.

    http://en.community.Dell.com/support-forums/desktop/f/3513/t/19536759

    / EDIT

the 8700 has no crack m2, so a m2 SSD ascended in a x 4 Adapter PCI to m2 will be the fastest interface.

On the m2 SSD Samsung seems to be on top with the XP941, but plextor and samsung have been mutually one-upping in this field and Plexstor announced the M7e which should albums the samsung as soon as it is available.

I'm not sure I've seen a XPS 8700 configured with a PCIe SSD as boot drive. It might work, or you may need to use an mSATA or SATA III SSD for the boot drive,

Then, slide into a PSU expansion and put to update the graphics card for a GTX 980 and you'll probably spent more than the cost of the system on the upgrades, and who will take the 8700 about as much as you can.

You must also download intel UERX and overclock the memory slightly. with the tension of memory limited to 1.5V on the card mother dell, it is difficult to increase the frequency of the memory and keep stability. Instead you can squeeze latency and that helps a little. Here are my attempts as well as some synthetic test results. Real-world tests did not much difference.

  • USB 3.0 connecting high-speed USB 2.0 drive

I have a Western Digital 1 TB USB 3.0 external hard drive. I connect it to the USB 3.0 port (blue) on my laptop Acer Aspire 5755-6647, who works under Windows 7 x 64.

When you connect, I get the "this device can perform faster: this USB mass storage device can transfer information faster if you connect it to a Super Speed USB 3.0 port" message. When you copy files to the drive, I get about 32 MB/s, which corresponds to a USB 2.0 speed.

I tried to disable the USB power management in the utility USB 3.0 host controller. I tried to uninstall the device and put it back. I'm using the cable supplied with the disc and is a USB 3.0 cable. I have the latest Renesas USB 3.0 driver installed (2.0.34.0). I also tried to use an older driver from Renesas. My BIOS is updated (P5WE0121).

I don't know what else to do. If it helps, the first time I have connected my laptop hard drive, it's on a USB 2.0 port (I had for some reason any remembered which side of the laptop had the port 3.0 and does not check for blue). As I have said, however, I completely uninstalled the device. I suspect that Windows can be "remember" the device and install with the 2.0 driver.

Update: I finally try one last thing before you go to Acer support. I thought that perhaps not enough power provided by my USB 3.0 port on the drive, forcing him to 'downgrade' 2.0. So I bought a cable to Yfor $5 to offer auxiliary power of the adjacent 2.0 port. Result: IT WORKS. Immediately connected as a USB 3.0 peripheral speed and transfer is USB 3.0.

Solved. A little disappointed with the Acer/Intel for the USB 3.0 under normal, however.

  • Dell XPS 8700 Windows 10 questions with SD card reader

Hi, I bought a new Dell XPS 8700 three months ago.  It comes with Windows 8, even if I asked for preinstalled Win10.  The Win10 upgrade process was fairly straightforward.  However so far three times the SD card reader stopped working.  I fix it by reinstalling the drivers.  Its not working again and my USB stopped working also.  Is there a background process that interferes with USB / SD card drivers?  Anyone else noticed this behavior.

    Rgds Frank

    You can try this:

Go into Device Manager, and then double-click the entry for your SD card reader. Assuming that he has one, click on the power management tab, and uncheck the box 'allow the PC turns off... ». Now, do the same thing in Manager of devices for all your USB root hubs.

Then go to the options screen to win 10 powers, click on advanced settings and turn off hybrid sleep. Reboot and see if that helps.

Open Control Panel, and then select System
    * Click (left) advanced system settings
    * Click the Hardware tab
    * Click on "Device Installation settings" and then click "No, let me choose what to do" and "never install driver from Windows Update. Click on save changes. This step is important, or even updates Windows will always write the Windows 8.1 driver

    * Install the audio driver Realtek Windows 8.1

    * Restart the system. Don't forget to select your Realtek Audio as audio device by default if you have several devices on your computer

It worked for me.  Let me know if you have any questions.

  • Please help trouble Code 43 error graphics card for XPS 8700 (as well as the disappearance of sleep/Standby Mode) (Windows 10)

I got my XPS in 2014 and my warranty of service completed in 2015 Jan before I installed Windows 10. So since I've upgraded to Windows 10 I started having problems with by XPS 8700. Now, I have no guarantee. I thought he would go better once they have released an update of the BIOS and it did for a while unfortunately in recent months, I noticed two major issues.

  • Dell XPS 8700 - How to install Windows XP on it

    Hello

I have read on this forum that it was possible to install Win XP on XPS 8500 and wanted Trailblazers thanks!

I was wondering if someone has even tried to install XP on the 8700?

I should receive my XPS 8700 with Win 7 Premium on this topic next week?

I then unplug the original HD and try to install XP on one of my free SATA 3 SSD.

Also, very probably I will change the video card for another model with a compatible driver that I used for a few years in another i7 PC (I have a spare card).

The early problem would be drivers, in particular drivers Ethernet/LAN

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Please note that I prefer (in spite of having a legal copy for Win 7 and Win 8 Pro lying around) Win XP for my typical usage.* *.

    Thank you

    XPSTester

    I got the PC.

Step 1: Unit under test and recovery CD made.

Step 2: BIOS Mode changed SATA AHCI RAID Mode changed.

Step 3: Air conditioner stops. HARD drive disconnected original. SSD connected instead.

Step 4: Windows XP is installed from the CDROM. PC works fine, super fast.

Step 5: Realtek Ethernet controller installed (see the link above, thanks again Sandeep! :-).) Surf the Internet, it is now possible and, therefore, all the rest. The most important step accomplished :-).

Step 6: Install my own ATI video card and drivers Realtek Audio & HDMI. Playing music and video on an HDTV in Mode Extended accomplished!

I got 5 points at issue in Device Manager after installing Win XP.

3 of them have been solved by various software to Intel.

2 of those remaining are related to Wireless & Bluetooth.

This is the best I could do at the moment... :-)
