  Where can I find a detailed description of each audio port for an XPS 8700?  The docs I found so far are unnecessary: "four audio output ports / headset" tells us nothing.  These manuals can be dumbed down many more!

  Two different people to support Dell sent me the right screw for the XPS8900, that I have received and confirmed to work.

  It's M2x3.5, NOT M2x3. The official part of Dell is:

  6JPHH1SCREW, M2X3.5, WIFI/SSD/DDPE, DF

  (or just the part number 6JPHH).

  My new 8900 XPS does not seem to turn on the stereo mix. I can't save its course towards the speakers. There must be a way to do this. I noticed that the Device Manager shows "Realtek High Definition Audio" under "audio, video and game controllers". My last computer was this driver and it allowed the stereo mix. Any ideas as to how this feature can be enabled on the XPS 8900?

  I have not installed 10, but that's what I have on the Optiplex 9020 = 7

  * Right-click on the taskbar, the icon of Sound speakers headphones
  * Click on recording devices
  * Right click on the white area
  * Check all the
  * Look for wave Out Mix/Stereo Mix / what you mean
  * Right click on one you see and select enable
  * With your still selected, click the set as default at the bottom

  From October 2016, Costco sells a XPS 8900, i7, 16 GB, GeForce GTX745 PC.  Is the motherboard in this PC has a connector SATA 3 that I can use for one SSD SATA I already have?

  Yes.The 8900 has five SATA ports on the motherboard and the power cables in support of three hard drives and two optical drives.

  List of spec hard drives to 6GBs and optical drives to 3GBs so maybe two SATA ports are SATA II.

• Dell XPS-8900 does not start

  Worked well to date, 01/01/2016 - Happy New Year, NO!

  Change power cable, use a different outlet (other items such as router and network printer can very well). Computer still does not start.

  When I plug it in the computer power light turns on light and then turns off (this seemed normal before). So if I push the power button computer does not start.

  I don't seem to get an orange light sequence of 2-1 after trying to turn it on - and continues. Maybe some sort of signal POST?

  I can turn the computer (not my first choice) after our journey ahead. But I'd rather get it upward and now running. Have work to do.

  More information. I had four USB3 external drives attached, whose two propulsion and two disks Seagate Wireless - which is recharged through its USB port.

  Removing only the second Seagate drive allows the machine starts. So the question can be too much of a drain on the USB card current.

  Once started, the system seems to work very well with that wireless Seagate drive attached, and it restarts with it attached - just not boot from a condition of Shut Down.

  Not sure really, I understand that, but I can live with that.

  If someone seems something more insidious in this behavior, please notify; bought the XPS-8900 at COSTCO and still about 55 days return if it is defective!

• Dell XPS 8900 media card reader write protected: how to remove the protection?

  I use the card reader to write mp3 files on a micro-SD card to use in a small MP3. Until today, no problem. Now I get the error 'write protected' - and it is not because of the tab in the adapter SD being in the wrong position.

  There were a few quirks days when card readers are presented as explicit readers in this PC, but this phenomenon disappeared when I restarted the computer. I suspect that this may be related.

  Advice as to how do these ports without protection would be appreciated. Meanwhile, Plan B, using a to a USB external card reader works.

  Also: Run Windows 10 as originally installed on the computer.

  The outcome: diskpart approach after trying and failing, I decided to try canned air in the slot for the fourth time (this is what I did the first time that the crack would not read and later that day).

  This time I gave him a dose really long and deep air under pressure. And voila, he now writes and reads.

  Sorry to take all this space on what turned out be a non-issue, or should have been.

  I have three other computers with media slots, two of them for close to three years, and no one has posted this question - as in my XPS 8900 after only three weeks of minimal use of niche.

• XPS 8900 two monitors, one video card

  If you look at the back of the XPS 8900, there are 2 connections monitor (DP and HDMI) on the motherboard.  It would be the 530 Intel GPU that comes with it.  Then my system also came with a 730 GT PCIe card.  Currently, I have two monitors working using the RFP on the motherboard and on the GT 730 DVI port.

  I wonder if this supported dual monitors, but only on internal Intel 530 map with two connections hanging there?

  I got an HDMI cable to DP I've tried, but windows has never found the 2nd monitor.  So, I don't know if 2 monitors on the Intel 530 card are not supported (I'm sure that Intel is in favour, but not sure that Dell has allowed this) or my cable is interrupted.

  OK, with a DP to DP cable and a HDMI to DVI cable, I can only use the Intel 530 card on board.  So it turns out that I had the wrong front cable (HDMI / DP is not a valid path).

  The specs say that it may have 3 internal 3.5 "hard drives.  I was wondering if there is place to put a 4th? (Power, Sata, space, goes up).

  As you have noticed, Dell provides no information about the color of connectors in the maintenance manual.

  Assuming that the repair is correct, all of the SATA connectors on the motherboard XPS 8900 conducted at the same speed (6 Gb/s), so, theoretically, you can plug disks into one of the ports. However, historically, the watched Dell BIOS code on the hard disk connected to the blue SATA port 0. If you have moved to a SATA port that is numbered differently startup disk, the computer may not start. I don't know if this is still true for the 8900 XPS. On my XPS 8500, the boot drive has been connected to the blue SATA 0 port when Dell shipped it.

  Why do I say 'assuming that the repair is correct? Because the owner for 8500 XPS and XPS 8700 manual contained errors about the speed of the SATA ports. The gap you found in the maintenance manual and specification Guide is another example of skills poor documentation of Dell.

  In all cases, more mechanical hard drives may not even saturate a SATA II, but only a SATA III one channel. Optical drives are generally slower, but you can always plug into a SATA III connector.

• IPHONE AUDIO PORT

  I had an iphone 6, since last week my audio port does not work properly. Whenever I tried to connect my audio headphones port is not hold the lyre.

  Are fully seated the plug so it will click at the end? If it sits completely, there may be something deep inside blocking. If the card goes to bottom and doesn't click, then the trigger is blocked or broken.

  Whatever it is, it seems to be a hardware problem that we, the users "do not touch inside", can't fix. You will need to take it to an Apple Store or an authorized service provider to have evaluated it and learn what you can choose repair options.

• How can I connect 7.1 speakers to a s5xt ("speakers 7.1 capable" when he has only 3 audio ports?)

  I chose the s5 of HP on the competition series because it was clearly labelled on the site that the s5z and s5xt are capable of 7.1.  However, when receiving it, I find that it has 3 rear audio ports.  I can't easily connect on that until the cable is too short, but that should be the same as green on the back anyway.  Why do we say for the sound card 7.1 when there seems not to be 7.1?

  I have two RCA audio ports and what appears to be a S-video port on the back of my computer that do not appear in the specifications.  Does anyone know if these would be inputs or outputs?

• Audio port Ultra Dock docking station does not

  I have a laptop ThinkPad X 240 with Windows Enterprise 8.1 x 64 installed. His plays very well from the speakers of the laptop, and when I plug in external speakers on the computer portable 3.5 mm audio port, they work very well also.

  But... when the phone is rooted in my Ultra Dock 90W docking station and external speaker cable is plugged into the dock's audio port, there is no sound. If I play music through the laptop speakers, as soon as I plug a cable into the audio port dock, no sound is produced. I can still use the laptop's audio port to connect external speakers, but that defeats the purpose of having an audio port on the Dock Ultra.

  Dock Ultra has (I think) the latest firmware installed (version 2.22.000) and I have the latest audio drivers installed: in Device Manager > sound, video and game controllers > Realtek High Definition Audio > driver version is 6.0.1.7188 which is the last available Lenovo support downloads.

  What should I do to get the Ultra audio port Dock works?

  According to the request, we understand that you are facing problem with Audio only works not the Ultra docking with your ThinkPad X 240.

  Did you check different system with docking station / Ultra?

  Check with the ThinkVantage System Update tool, running so that it will update all the required drivers and application of your system.

• T410 audio port gives the output on one side of the enclosure

  I had a T410 recently and have been pretty happy with it.

  The problem is, my normal headset used to work initially, had no trouble getting sound in both left and right headset speakers. Then slowly I started to have trouble getting sound in my left ear piece. I had to twist and turn the connector and it would work occasionally and it does not work most of the time.

  I tested with two headphones that work with other devices, but when I connect it with this, I hear in my right atrium only. Speakers work fine.

  How can I solve this problem?

  I have 3 iPod headphones, 2 of them are compatible parts but the 3rd is authentic Apple. Headphones compatible when connected to my T400 with the same problem you are describing, the sound comes only from one of their ear pieces and me too I have to twist and turn in a certain position for its exit from both ends. However, the genuine Apple earphone works out of the box, but all these 3 headphones work fine with my iPod. My conclusion is that only connect headphones of good quality with the thinkpad.

  But the problem could be different, I suggest you look at this thread and Knowledge Base article, maybe what you need is just an adapter to resolve this problem: -.

• XPS vs XPS 8900 8910

  I'm considering buying a 8910 XPS but I have concerns about the problems of heat and noise with the new case design based on messages in this forum. I see that Best Buy is still selling the old XPS 8900 with the oldest case. If I go with the 8910 XPS, I'd probably use the NVIDIA GTX 745Ti stock or 960 video. I would add a 512G SSD for my main hard drive.

  Someone at - it recommendations on the XPS vs 8900 8910?

  You might also consider an inexpensive slot fan who gets the power directly from the PSU. Hot air is vented to the rear of the case.

  This is just one example. There are many different brands and versions to choose so going around.  No idea how efficient they are or how much extra the noise they could add: I don't recommend - or not - recommend this particular fan or provider...

  EDIT: Many / most of these fans of housing have a power connector Molex 4 pin, if you'd also need an inexpensive SATA > power Molex adapter you can connect the Molex fan to one of spare SATA power on the power supply connectors.
