XW4400 workstation: decommissioning of BIOS

Just updated the BIOS to V02.07 (later) and now the CPU fan will NOT leave until a quiet speed.  It was NOT like this before the upgrade and can not now seen to locate the BIOS version v01.03 which was originally it (no, I don't have a copy until I upgraded).  I tried the video card and even took off the CPU fan and applied it again the dough... NO LUCK.

Anyone know where I can get the previos V01.03 version?

I saw v. 1.02, but no 1.07.

Have you checked in the BIOS in the Power tab-> heat for the option to change the mode Fan Idle?

  • E9140f elite: decommissioning of BIOS

    Hello

I upgraded the BIOS to version 5.07 to 5.08 in my HP Elite e9140f desktop computer. Since then, the fan runs at a very high speed, even when the system is not hot.  I installed the following command to upgrade the BIOS to 5.08:

    http://ftp.HP.com/pub/softlib/software11/COL34566/PV-85559-1/sp46427.exe

Is it possible for me to downgrade the BIOS to v 5.07?

    Thank you!

    Hello MKG2,

Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the Forums of HP, I would like to draw your attention to the Guide of the Forums HP first time here? Learn how to publish and more.

I understand that you have updated the BIOS on your computer and now the fan runs all the time and you're looking to restore your BIOS to its previous version. Unfortunately, unless you have saved your discovery of the exact BIOS update BIOS you will be a challenge.

As you have probably already guessed there are that only the updated BIOS update posted on the page drivers for you computer and therefore no chance of finding the right file must come from a third party. I would recommend before trying this way you examine and apply the changes in the HP Support document: Fan is Noisy and runs constantly (Windows 7), which can solve your problem without risking the bad BIOS update being installed.

Please re-post if you need extra support. Thanks for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great weekend!

  • HP xw4400 workstation memory problem

I recently upgraded the memory on my system to 8 GB by replacing all 4 memory cards 512 MB by default with 2048MB of updates to level. However, my system properties shows only 3.25 GB of RAM. I need additional memory because the computer is running out of resources on a regular basis and I need a boost of memory. What will do for my system to use all of the 8 GB?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you

    D

Hello navi5, if you need to use the 8GBs of memory, you must upgrade to an x 64 version of the operating system. Your processor supports the 64 x operating systems. Your video card also supports Windows 7 Aero.

If you have decided to go with Windows 7 x 64, you must perform a new installation. You cannot upgrade directly from Windows XP. Microsoft has a way to migrate from Windows XP to Windows 7. I would say Windows 7 Pro x 64 and Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 would work as well.

You get not only the performance of the additional memory, but Windows 7 is faster than Windows XP and Microsoft ends support for Windows XP in about a year.

I would also check the software you use will work with any version of Windows 7 x 64.

  • Workstation HP xw4400 35 code

    Hi all

I recently bought a HP xw4400 workstation, I upgraded to 4gig RAM, installed Windows 7 Home Premium, I also purchased and installed a new NVIDIA GTX460 series graphics card.

All installed and updated but uppon restart the dreaded yellow "!" poster on the Vido card on board devices. The error that is displayed is the following:

"Your computer's system firmware includes enough information to properly configure and use this device.  To use this device, contact the manufacturer to obtain a firmware or an update of the BIOS of your computer. (Code 35) »

I looked for salvation and down on the HP site and there is no upgrade for the workstation HP xw4400 for Win7. I uninstalled the map and let win 7 install their own updates and still no luck, reinstalled the drivers that come with the card and no luck once again.

I ran many searches for code 35 and came each time empty-handed.

Any help on how to fix this PCI would be much appreciated that the NVIDIA GTX460 is usless to me in this current state.

OK, HP do not support Win 7 on PC more than Win 7 itself. I managed to get my hands on a BIOS update, and now it works like a dream. How ever, I took a chance on playing with the BIOS it may screw up a lot of things. So now, my HP xw4400 workstation meets with Win 7.

If you choose to use this file, that it is at your own risk, it could make a mess of many or all of your PC hardware, in case of doubt consult a COMPUTER specialist. The file was found on the HP win 7 updates and is named "sp51215" use it may own, but only for workstation HP xw4400 with Win 7.

  • The Hewlett-Packard 786 7 v01.02 BIOS update

    Hello

I installed a nvidia geforce gtx 560 card ti graph in the workstation HP xw4400 of my son as a Christmas gift, and I get the following error message:

"Your computer's system firmware includes enough information to set up and use this.

My understanding is that I need to update the BIOS, but I can't find an update for Hewlett-Packard 786 7 v01.02 on this site. I've attached a screenshot of system information.

Thanks in advance for your support.

The XW4400 is currently in the BIOS v2.07 Rev A, 8 December 2010 , but the history tab provides no story at all... so I can't find the old versions of BIOS and as such can't see if it's OK to jump directly from v1.02 to v2.07 without problem...

But the tab notes relase v2.07 includes following:

This package contains the system BIOS (BIOS family 7 786) and BIOS image the and remote flash utility for the HP xw4400 workstation. These utilities can be used to restore or update THE system BIOS. System BIOS is the operating system
    independent.

If the BIOS linked above is for your XW4400 that uses the BIOS 786 7 family...

But please note that the XW4400 has only updates for XP & VISTA and not Windows8. So the XW4400 updates may or may not work as expected when it is used with Windows 8. Both such and especially with a BIOS update that can be risky, I won't use the method of updating windows (HPQFlash) flashing the BIOS from version HPQFlash may not be completely compatible Win8... Instead, I would like to use the 'flash-BACK' or "BIOS CD" methods.

You can learn more about the different methods of updating BIOS by looking at all the README files in sp51215.exe. You can either run sp51215.exe to unzip the contents of c:\swsetup\sp51215\ (but do not perform a bios update, just close the tool) or 7-zip to directly view the content of sp51215.exe...

The update of the BIOS may or may not help your situation, but in all cases, you have still some problems with drivers and the Windows 8 to settle as the XW4400 was never certified for Win8. You may need to perform a job detective to ensure that drivers, especially the chipset drivers, used during the Win8 installed and updates post install actually support the hardware itself... He is a guy to know what is the problem that the documents appear to be getting dumbed down and therefore, you will need to do a lot of reading...

Otherwise, you could try to install a different generation or make card but a bike may have been a more easy Christmas gift...

  • XW4400: upgrade HDD to xw4400?

    I have a HP XW4400 workstation (RB282UA).

I need to replace the hard drives (I bought used a few years back).

What I have to use 'HP' hard drives, or can I use any brand?

I did a search on cdw.ca for "hp xw4400" and pointed out some fairly expensive items, IE: CAN$ 168 for a 160 GB HARD drive HP!

Eeven the RAM is up there, so that I can buy 4 GB ram on Ebay (even from US) and have it shipped in way less than the price of the PEC for 2 GB!

I note that on neweeg.ca I can get a 1 to WD for about $65 - that is why I ask.

Is there some special firmware in the readers of "HP"?

According to me, they have also a reburbished WD for nearly $30 can.

    Any advice?

BTW: just use it for Linux and * BSD at the present time.

You can use the hard disks of brand. I note that the XW4400 can use sata or scsi (pronounced scuzzy) hard drives. SATA drives are just plug and play removable by anyone but scsi disks take some expertise to set up so make sure you know what you have and what you replace. HP readers, you've seen perhaps scsi drives since they time to be much more expensive than the SATA drives. I would avoid given to nine drives. Same with RAM; No matter what brand it is compatible speed type and it uses ECC memory, which is not your ordinary walk-into-Best-Buy-and-pick-some-up kind of memory.

  • Satellite L300 - webcam does not work after BIOS update

I've recently updated the BIOS to 2.2, and the webcam has stopped working. He disappeared, and there is an unknown device in Device Manager in USB bus controller.

I've tried everything, even with the new Vista OS pure but nothing as there is no webcam I have installed the drivers but not recognised so I would like if I can get the BIOS to 1.5 and fix the webcam. If I can cos I need. Is this possible?
    TNX

    Hello

I put t think its BIOS problem.
First the unknown device (webcam) appears in the Device Manager and it means that a device has been recognized by the system and the BIOS.
The only reason why its listed as unknown devices is: the driver is not installed correctly.

After update BIOS, you have to put back the BIOS to default. Access BIOS by pressing F2 and in the BIOS, you can use the button to default to F9 and F10 to save the changes.

After that you should start the machine and need to go to Device Manager.
Mark the unknown device and delete it from the list (if possible)
Go to control panel-> software control and check the list of software for webcam software (from chicony). Uninstall this software if its part of the list.

    Now, restart the laptop.
Clean the operating system using CCleaner and install the correct webcam for Vista software. Note: pay attention to the 32-bit version or 64-bit.

If the installation fails, try the Toshiba Recovery disk and define the notebook back to factory settings.

By the way: decommissioning of BIOS is not possible because the old BIOS is not downloadable.

    Hello:

I can't help with your problem, because in this case, my recommendation would be to reinstall the operating system.

What I can do, is give you information to get a set of recovery discs for your xw4400 for only $10 USD.

    Here's how:

    1. Enter the part number and the serial number on the top of the computer on the Silver label. The model # is a Compaq HP xw4400, but the part number is on this tag silver under the serial No.

    2. call HP at 1-800-952-7689, option 1 (ranking in the list in the option made restore disks).

    3. provide the information asked by the representative who answers the phone. Some simply ask for the serial No., some want at the same time, or they'll want just the serial number and the type of computer (xw4400).

    4. do you have a Master Card or Visa ready for purchase. They do not take discover. You will be charged $10.00.

You will receive the discs by first class mail, or you can pay an additional $10.00 for shipping FedEx.

  • I installed RAM from 1 GB to 8 properties but system says 3.5 GB.

I have a xw4400 workstation HP with Windows XP and I installed RAM from 1 GB to 8 but properties system indicates 3.5 GB. Why do we say not that there are 8GB?
