Z420: z420 recovery

Because HP no longer provides partition recovery or HP_TOOLS partition D: on their recovery media, I'm out of luck.  Any who would like to send me a copy of their scores so I can reinstall.  I would be happy to work with anyone on this.

Thank you

    Hi all

To restore the original factory conditions, you will need to order recovery disks.

  • Creation of HP Z420 Workstation to USB recovery media - fails to see USB

    Hi all

Thank you in advance for watching my problem here and for any help you may be able to provide.

I reecently bought a workstation HP Z420 (Win 7 Pro x 64), and I was very happy with it until this problem arose.

I was at my wit's end until I found this forum, and I am pleased that it is apparently composed of knowledgeable HP (and other) people who can help you.

I tried to go forward with the process of recovery of HP Media, creating a backup on a USB thum, but the application does not see the USB when I insert it.  It says it must ~8.3GB, and I install a brand new Sandisk Cruzer 16 GB, but he sees nothing (he says that if the media did not have sufficient capacity, it would show it in police greyed, but nothing here).

The USB key is listed under hard drives, and as I understand it, it cannot be seen, but don't know how to be seen under the removable storage media and so to work.

I'm not a computer / person nowledgeable tech.  If there was a patch issued, or any known, fix it please help.

    Thank you

    Ted

    Boston

It is a major problem of acknowleded by SanDisk on earlier versions of the Cruzer

You can check in the Device Manager to see if the stick appears as a USB device or a hard drive.   No matter what question mark or exclamatiion showing beside it?

Download and run a program called BootIt : simply turn on the bit "removable"! Unplug and plug in again and you're ready to go.

Another solution, force it to create a bootable device / removal with this program.

  • Z420: accidentally deleted the recovery partition

Accidentally deleted the Partition D:Recovery on my win machine 7 Z420. I have HP recovery disks: System Recovery, Driver Recovery DVD, 8.1Pro operating system and operating system Win 7 pro sp1.  The use of these will recreate the partition D automatically or do I have to do this first.  I have the orientations of the white paper "Restoring Microsoft windows 7 on the z420 ', but I was told that it will not recreate the recovery partition.  There is no need to restore everything if in fact I still have until the end without disk recovery D and files?

There is no way to recreate the recovery partition on the z420.  The recovery disk media that I bought with the Z420 does not include this information.  It will only recover the original operating system and drivers and software that came with the system.  I spoke with HP z workstation support today.

  • z620: Startup_z620 weird

    Comrades,

    I'm trying to upgrade a z620, now 2 X Xeon E5-2690 / 40 GB DDR3 - 1600 ECC / Quadro K2200 / Seagate SATA II, 750 GB / Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.

Windows was loaded from the latest z420 recovery partition (2015) in office and running the BIOS v. 3.84. It's HP 2105 / Windows started normally and is active automatically went many, many updates already.

The thing is, after the update the BIOS from far enough behind to 3.88 using the Windows BIOS /. Method of the EXE at startup, the screen goes through a series of screens messy-maybe 8 or more before Windows starts and some seem to be repeats. ' Reference number ' American Megatrends ' and a few times he paused on the prompt to enter the RAID configuration.

    > Are there two or three copies of the BIOS in a row?

    > Can I upgrade more than drivers chipset and storage?

Both the z420 at the start of the office (with SSDS) with only a brief pause on the HP screen first and then directly at Windows startup.

The installation disc, an old Seagate 750 GB is extremely slow (pass mark of note 574) so I thought that the disc is maybe just going through something that I do not see at the speed of the SSD.  However I have a new HP Z Turbo (256GB AHCI) and when I put it in the z620 he presented the same set of screens before moving to "start your system for the first time.

I tried to return the BIOS to the version previous 3.84 which is the same as the two z420, but he would not go because there is a missing file that apprently does not appear in a HP recovery partition.

Today, I saw that there is a new BIOS (8 Aug 16) for /z620, v. 3.90 z420 and I installed. also using the mthod of Windows same result with the avalanche of splash screens.

I looked through the "preferred method" directly copy files to the root and a series of ongoing orders in a CMD, but I have no idea how to do a number of tasks: mapping the path of the file on a network drive.  The instructions are simply not enough detailed.

The system seems to operate normally, but there be something wrong and I wonder about future stability. This problem is preventing me from completing the upgrade, loading program and the upgrade to finish.

    Thank you very much!

    See you soon,.

    It's surely not normal.

I am running the latest BIOS Z620 3.90 and drivers from HP for the Z620 section, they seem really confused.  This BIOS is as Z420, Z620, Z820 and does not like the latest BIOS for a certain number of Z620 operating systems.

It is, in fact, for the Z420 and the Z620.  3.90 isn't the last, 3.88.

I would like to clear your CMOS as it is done correctly by following the instructions in the manual of technique and service exactly.  Make sure that all devices are disconnected (they can feed back into the motherboard even if it is turned off), and the power cord must be disconnected for enough time that discharge the capacitors.

I have run all our Z620s in legacy mode, and if you PM me with your email address I can send you my config file replicated Z620 hand tuned that allows you to clone my settings.  Learn about setting up replicated in this forum if you wish.  This is for Z620s running off a single SSD, with a disk of the documents.  The tuning is a little different to determine if you run 1 or 2 video cards.

I usually update BIOS to go into the BIOS, but for this update I did using the the SoftPaq HPQFlash and all right.  This is a big update and took more than 5 minutes.

  • Clocked at 20 degrees warmer since putting on 3.87 Rev A Bios Update on Z420 Workstation

    I have a question:

Not too long ago I put the Bios Update on A Rev 3.87 was considered to be as critical an update on my workstation Z420 (running Windows 7 Pro 64-bit), and lately I've found that the CPU idling at about 20 degrees more hot than before.  I used to hear creaking noises coming from the computer I learned normally come circuits on the motherboard power delivery, but as long as I heard those CPU would be on average around 50 degrees C at idle.  I hear these noises and now the CPU is on average around 70-75 degrees C at idle.  Not sure what the connection is.  HP performance Advisor tells me I'm in the normal range, but I want to just make sure that with programs like Autodesk Maya there, she become too hot and stop the machine.   I don't know what the temp high-end is considered maximum security.  This change could have due to the update of the Bios?

Thank you for your response and suggestions.  I check in my BIOS power management settings has been developed the extended mode, but the temperature has always hovered around 70-78 degrees at idle.  I checked Intel spec for this (E5 - 1650 6-core xeon) processor, clocked at 3.2 Ghz by heart, and although he said nothing on the TMax, he mentioned that the TCase (which he defined as the maximum temperature allowed integrated processor heat sink (IHS)) was 64 degrees Celsius.  Now my temperature of the case, according to my HP Performance Advisor version 1.7.7517.0 is only about 24 degrees C, but I put my fan a little higher CPU, about 2009 rpm speed.  This makes a little more noise, but my CPU temp has dropped to about 49 °.  "" Before the change of the fan speed has been slightly more than 1300 RPM while the Advisor I have always said that it is in the range "normal".  Is it good to get the speed of the CPU fan like that or do I have to go a little lower?

  • Change language of the BIOS of HP Z420 PC workstation

    Hello members,

I use a HP Z420 workstation PC. I bought this by a French seller, the BIOS menu is in French. It is anyway to change the bios to English language?

    03.85 BIOS version
    American Megatrends V.2.15.1229

P.S. This thread has been moved from workstations - w series, series z, xw and inherited management of Client PC HP x series. -Hp moderator of the Forum

Go to HP.com, click on Support, download the drivers.  Put in Z420 in the product name, then select the workstation Z420.   This will bring up the page drivers.  Select the version of your operating system.  (This is the usual place to find drivers)

Under "Software - management system" down load the utility BIOS Configuration (BCU) (International).  This tool will create a text dump of your BIOS settings file.  We can change this file, and then use the changed file to update the BIOS settings.

In this file, there is a section for the "install language", with several languages listed below.  The language with the * in front of it is the one that is turned on.  In your case, remove it * before French and add it * before English.  Then follow the instructions on how to use this file to update your BIOS settings.

  • HP Z420 serial programming

I am still fairly new tech to the concept of tattoo map of the mother for HP calls.

I tattoo a serial number to a replacement for a HP Z420 Server motherboard

I boot from a flash drive with windows 98 and DMI files in a folder.  After getting the guest back I go to the folder of the DMI (5.03) and try to run NBDMIFIT. BEATS and get the error "code provider does not support in this package" - it worked before (so I think)

    What I am doing wrong?

Also a question aside, does anyone else have trouble reading the string "byte feature?

    Hello:

You can also ask your question on HP Business - z-section of desktops Support Forum.

On a lot of the newer HP business desktop computers, there is no need to run programs to add S/N to the BIOS.

You can see if this approach works on the Z workstations as it does on the new HP Elite 8xxx.

After entering the Setup by pressing the F10 key, press on Ctrl + A to open additional fields in security > system menu IDs.

Enter the serial number of your PC inventory and serial number of chassis number.

Save the changes then and once when you exit the BIOS.

  • Z420 HP: HP Z420 USB3.0 header pinout?

    Hello

I moved my workstation to another case (Fractal Design R4) mainbaord z420 and continue to operate in the screen which warns me of different panels are not connected.

So far, I was able to resolve problems with: Front Panel Audio, USB 2.0 and IEEE 1394 due Searchin' through the HP Forums and determine what pins must be connected to the earth so that the motherboard for the test.

A question that I can't seem to understand / make disappear is "939-Front Panel Usb 3.0 not connected."

I connected the cable USB3.0 of the case and it still shows this issue - by reading the forums I stumbled on this z420/z620 have a USB3.0 redriver .
Should I have the original bench to pretend that usb3.0 is connected to the Commission? Is there another way to turn the motherboard usb3.0 is connected (similar to pins detect with audio and USB 2.0)?

Given that the pc will run 24/7 as small file server, I don't really need before usb3.0 - I had rather have it starts normally after a power failure and need not be physical present to press f1 for it to start

Any help on how to solve this problem is highly appreciated

    pj_1 wrote:

Here is the pinout of the connector USB front P29.  This is a blue connector keeled, with needles of 2 mm spacing.  The pins are very thin, much thinner than the other internal USB header pins.  Pin 20 is a key, that is, the PIN is missing.  This allows to understand the direction of the connector and pin codes.

Pin 10 is detect the front USB 3.0 cable.  The cable IO before this PIN, so that the system knows that the cable is installed.

If the 10 pin is connected to the mass, which means that it is the rider to pin 4, 7, 13, or 16, the system will think the cable is installed and it will not be a POST error during startup.  The pins are very thin and fragile, so it may need a rare jumper to do so.

This work around is not recommended or supported, as it suggests the system cable is installed, and of course before USB 3.0 ports will not work.  As an employee of HP, I must say this.    ;-)

  • Z420: Z420 different revisions?

    Hi all

    Question

Are there two different revisions of the platform Z420 as with the Z400?

I have two different pdf for this product and a list of the Sandy Bridge E5 Xeons with 1600 Mhz memory and another inscription Ivy Bridge E5 V2 Xeons with 1866 Mhz memory?

How can we identify one from the other?

Is this the same motherboard and just a BIOS revision that opened the compatibility with these processors and memory?

Yes, there are two versions, the original "Version 1" and the "Version 2".  The original can run the Sandy Bridge Xeon processors that HP certified for it.  Version 2 can run the Sandy Bridge and more recent processors Ivy Bridge "v2".  A nice little article on the differences between these two generations of processors is linked below.  Again, assuming that you have a newer version Z420 you can generally only Sandy and Ivy processors listed by HP Brige can due to the firmware BIOS limitations built-in (there are rare exceptions):

    http://www.PCMag.com/Article2/0, 2817,2405317,00.asp

A trick that works for most HP workstations is to search, for example, 'Z420 spare parts' in Google.

Top results you see HP for that and noted in chapter of the processors of the Z420 there 700000 part number processors series with IB (Ivy Bridge) in the front as the available processors.  Note also to the bottom in the section below is a couple of 700000 motherboards part numbers.  This is the later Version 2 ones.  Le-001 is delivered by W7 installed. the largest number to W8.

I do not have the date of the BIOS boot block simple differentiation between Version 1 to Version 2 for the Z420, but it's the best way to know if you have a.  The dates of start for Z620 and Z820 block are 28/12/11 for the original and on 06/03/13 for Version 2 motherboards.  Look in your BIOS under the first tab for this... Your Z420 may not have the exact dates, but should be close, and you'll know that.

So, if you focus on the QuickSpecs and HP literature since the beginning of the era of 2013 you will start seeing Ivy Bridge being designated processors.

You can watch the Intel 'Ark' site under the approved HP v2 processors to see if there is only 1 sSpec code, and if so, you can be sure you are buying a used the same processor upgrade eBay to if you go this route.  Search on eBay under the sSpec code when you found on the site of the Ark... it will be linked at bottom left of the cover page for each processor that you are looking for.

I upgraded processors in Z400/Z600 workstations, but not yet a workstation ZX20.  Even proceeded, I'm sure, just more expensive.

  • Part number for the serial port in option HP Z420

I am looking for the serial port in option for the HP Workstation Z420, but in a datasheet, it is only mentioned as an optional serial port kit.

What is the number on the right side of the product? The same for the workstation Z400 was PA716A, but it was not compatible with the new workstation model...

I used the same part number, I used to model Z400 and it seems to work well.
    HP code is PA716A.
