10.5.8 update Snow Leopard disc

Here are the details on my computer:

Model name: iMac
Model identifier:
Processor name: Intel Core 2 Duo
Processor speed: 2.66 GHz
Number of processors: 1
Total number of cores: 2
L2 Cache Memory: 6 MB
Memory: 4 GB

When I bought this computer (fall 2009), it came with the drive for Mac OS X Snow Leopard.  I've never installed the disc and were broadcast 10.5.8.

I'm ready to upgrade level and need advice.  Is there something special I need to do before installing?  I have Microsoft Word for Mac 2011 software installed and want that he kept intact / operation.  Other than that, I have all the important documents saved.

Once installed Snow Leopard software, should I continue to be upgraded?  And what version (for example, Mountain Lion, Mavericks, El Capitan)?  This is where I get confused.  I read about the problems that occur if you upgrade exceeding the capabilities of your computer and it messes up other systems.

Thank you very much for your help!

Dana

You want to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 in order to get the App Store to improve in addition to newer versions.

The first step in this process must be a full backup at all on your Mac.

Your iMac can be upgraded to El Capitan 10.11.1. The important thing you lose beyond 10.6.8 is supported for the PPC code. He programs very old ones that have been written for the PowerPC processor, which used to go to Intel processor before Apple. As far as the problems go that the vast majority of them is caused by software of third fake that was installed on the Mac.

  • Updated Snow Leopard to Yosemite now (may 2016)

-After years of use of Snow Leopard on my iMac 27 "10.6.8, I've upgraded directly to El Capitan. -No problem to do so.

-When you use El Capitan, I encountered several problems (unsupported software and hardware).

-J' therefore decided to install Yosemite. The good service, I tested before on a MacMini i5 8 GB 1 TB Yosemite (2015).

    My questions:

-Directly, can I put my Snow Leopard system to Yosemite today (may 2016) and if so, how?

-Alternately can I downgrade my system of El Capitan in Yosemite and if so, how?

    Additional information:

System to be up - / downgraded: "iMac 27" 2.8 GHz Quad Core Intel Core i5, 8GB

Full backups (clones and Time Machine) of each State are available

Because it seems that you have downloaded Yosemite in the past, yes it should work.

On your Mac running 10.6.8 open the App Store, go to the 'Purchases' tab, find the OS X Yosemite and download it. Then run "install OS X Yosemite" app when it is made to download and it will guide you through the rest.

  • Do I need to use snow leopard installation discs to clear and then pass on late 2007 MacBook running 10.5.6?

Yet another question about the old MacBook crafty as questions involve. I begin to feel that the only way to clean it and the Mac is with software disks. Can I directly go with Snow Leopard, or do I have the disks to Leopard 10.5?

If theres an easier way using recovery disk fade and internet utility that would be really great!

    Help please!

You can use the Snow Leopard disc to install directly - you don't need to delete unless you want to. Your Macbook came with 1 GB of RAM and that meets the requirements that you might find it a little tight. If you are able to update the RAM would the Mac work better.

  • Try to reinstall Snow Leopard, no disc to install to

  • MacBook (13-inch aluminum, Late 2008) cannot install snow leopard

So I'll try to fix computer for my mother, it's a MacBook (13-inch aluminum, Late 2008).  He was running very slowly so I did a factory of resets and tried to install a copy of snow leopard on it.  When I try to install it on my hard drive it says "Mac OS X does not have this disc."  The symbol for the hard drive has a yellow! sign on it (if it matters).

    (1) my question is what can I do to install the OS on this?

Mavericks - OS would not install, I tried this right after the factory restore.

-Unfortunately I can't eject the disc either-

    (2) that it has to do with my drive hard and how can I test that?

Whence it the Snow Leopard disc? You must use a copy of Snow Leopard retail. You can buy Snow Leopard at the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (US). The price is $ 19.99 plus tax. You will receive a physical media by mail after placing your order.

    3. Release the button when the Apple logo appears, wait for loading to complete.
    4. After the installer loads, choose your language and click on the continue button. When the menu bar appears select utility drive in the Utilities menu.  After disk utility charges select the entry out-bumpy in the list aside (mfgr. size ID and disc drive.)  In the right side of the disk utility window, click the Partition tab.  Set the number of partitions of one (1) in the menu dropdown. Click the Options button and select GUID, click on OK, the value of the Mac OS Extended journaled format type. Finally, click on the apply button.
    5. Once the format is complete, quit disk utility.  Continue with the installation of OS X and follow the directions.
    6. Once installation is complete, the computer will restart in the installation wizard. After completing the Setup Wizard, you will use a new installation of Snow Leopard. Open the software update and install updates recommended.
    7. If you plan to sell or to give to your remote computer, then proceed as follows: once you reformat your hard disk and reinstall Snow Leopard, the computer restarts with a welcome screen. To leave the Mac in a State OOTB (Out Of The Box), do not continue with the Setup program. Instead, press the command and Q keys to stop the computer. The installation wizard will guide you the new owner through the installation procedure, after that it turns on the computer.
    8. Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 v1.1 updated Combo. If necessary. It is not necessary if you are selling or giving your computer away.
  • HP Photosmart Premium c309a doesn't fully work with Snow leopard 10.6.1

I don't see any answers in the Forum on my printer model, so here goes-

The printer is configured for a wireless connection.

Cannot get IPhoto to print on a photo plate, no matter how I play with the settings in the Menu print.  However, using the keypad of the printer, I can print from the photo tray color photos using a flash drive.

IPhoto and other apps, IWork 09 and ILife 09 will print to main paper tray, but not in color.

Using the keypad of the printer, I can copy and print from the glass in BW and color.

Cannot use Scan function Scanpro HP or the Device Manager, but can scan and print photo tray and main tray (but no computer or a drive - error message says no link found.

All reports - network wireless, Network Configuration, Fax, printer status, test and HP homepage, say all right.

I used suggestions from HP website without result, and the very nice fellow HP Chat Line, Manuel, told me in English that I have to contact MicroSoft for help.   I found a Web page apparently new to Mac users (HP printing from a Macintosh 10.5) and HP Mac-connect, but they do not seem to be updated for Snow Leopard.

I have reinstalled Snow Leopard, nothing helps.  I also tried the suggestion of Forum to use the option installs on my Snow Leopard disc, but when I go through the steps and software options are listed, the printer list shows zero KB and the 'Continue' button is grayed out.  No help there.

I also used most often suggestions - unplug the printer, restart the computer, etc, nothing works.

HP is still working for the full feature software and driver for C309a compatible with Mac OS 10.6 (Snow Leopard). You can check on the HP Web site for updates. What you have there is just the base driver which is preinstalled on your pc.

  • Epson R2400 (and perhaps other Epson printers) and Snow Leopard: a Solution

I installed Snow Leopard over the weekend and everything seemed to go well, except the re-installation of my Epson R2400.  It did not work.  The Epson Web site provides assistance for the R2400 snow leopard, but it's counterintuitive.  The following will save time.

First unplug the printer from the computer.

Then go to Preferences Mac system, printers and faxes and delete the printer Epson of the list.

Thirdly, put your Snow Leopard disc into your Mac and when the dialog box appears, folder select optional facilities (or something like that - I do not have open right now).  Then check Rosetta and install it.

Fourth, access the site Web of Epson.  You will need to download a new set of drivers.  Here is where it gets counter-intuitive.  Looks like you should use the first driver and utility package in the list, which is referred to as the Combo package.  It refers to Snow Leopard (10.6) and it is the most recent.  But you would be wrong using this simple logic.  You want to what is now the second driver in the list - v.57 print driver, which also meets the system requirements.

Fifth, v.57, download install it, reconnect your printer and it prints very well (I only made an impression so we'll see).

I don't know if the other high range Epson printers contain instructions on the wacky way, but if you are faced with a choice between a simple and a combo pack, you can try the simplest one first.

Hope that that someone saves time and aggrevation.

    Jack B. Siegel

PS this is not a new driver written for Snow Leopard - which can sometimes go down the road or not).  This, so I am told, is a Power PC driver and Rosetta (as in Rosetta stone) is a utility that converts so that it can be used on an iMac.

As a consumer, you should hate Epson.  They, like the world, knew that Snow Leopard was at least a year.  Now that they should have all new drivers and this should have been developed so that people didn't have to call technical support (a waste of time and of their of).  As the Epson R2400 is interrupted, they apparently are not required to provide the premium service and updates for it.  I bought mine about a 1.5 years.  They should not give up products that quickly after their abandonment.  As far as I know, they come out with a new printer in this price segment every two years.  I should not have bought a new printer every two years.

But as I said to myself yesterday as I struggled with the problem: if I can't print, I can't buy ink.

It's great, thank you very much. Works perfectly.

  • Using Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    Hi Gang

In what concerns a friend MA877LL iMac update to 'Maverick' and having many gels and other pending issues, I'm going to reformat and return to Snow Leopard. Note that this person uses not all professional applications of any kind. She would like to go back and use the mail program and the version of Safari initially provided with this iMac about 9 year.

It has all the original disks and save anything necessary.

I'm quite familiar with the process of reformatting but have a few questions about 10.6.8:

Considering that Apple takes more support for Snow Leopard, there are still many people out there who are satisfied using 10.6.8. I just want to know if there are questions of possible "Head Up" as for safety, Safari, e-mail within 10.6.8 client or something else?

Y at - it an available (in 10.6.8) update of Safari , which could add a security if it's a problem? Or maybe install Mozilla for Mac would be beneficial somehow?

    Thank you!

    Mike

Currently, there are now a large number of sites that require new versions of Safari. This requires the upgrade of OS X, which is not possible with some 2007 models: iMac (mid-2007 or newer) - model identifier 7.1 or later. To find the identifier of the model open system information in the Utilities folder. It is displayed in the Panel on the right.

If erase you the drive, you will need to install Snow Leopard in order to further improve. This means that it must have a copy of the retail DVD of Snow Leopard. If it is that: you can buy Snow Leopard at the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard - Apple Store (US). The price is $ 19.99 plus tax. You will receive a physical media by mail after placing your order.

After the installation of Snow Leopard you will need to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Combo Update v1.1 update Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.

It can download El Capitan or Mavericks. The Mavericks can be found in the purchase page of the App Store, where she is the re - download. El Capitan would be a new download.

  • My inner smartdrive dvd player won't read DVDs more.  I have updated to Snow Leopard in Yosemite.

I am currently using OS X Yosemite 10.10.5.  I bought in 2009 iMac with Snow Leopard and have to Lion then updated my current operating system.  The internal dvd player has worked with much fussing, (insert the disc - closing - turn after a wait - by pushing the drive when he jumped on reboot).  If I had the chance after a few hours, the video disc show up on my desk.  When this happened, I was opening the dvd player that was in the Finder and the disc would play. I also tried to open the dvd first player and then insert the disc.  That no longer works.  Yesterday, only it just stop working.  The reader still takes dvd and swirls and click as before but then ejects the dvd. Repeatedly stop and restart is no longer works.  I make sure that the dvd be clean before I use it and have tried many different DVDs without success.  I think it's a software issue.  Does anyone have an idea/instructions a nearly dead grandmother brain that can follow to update or redate back to original factory setting to help this poor Smartdrive not so smart?

I have no TV, only my computer and phone at low prices.  I need to watch that my library borrowed from the dvd.
