Epson R2400 (and perhaps other Epson printers) and Snow Leopard: a Solution

I installed Snow Leopard over the weekend and everything seemed to go well, except the re-installation of my Epson R2400.  It did not work.  The Epson Web site provides assistance for the R2400 snow leopard, but it's counterintuitive.  The following will save time.

First unplug the printer from the computer.

Then go to Preferences Mac system, printers and faxes and delete the printer Epson of the list.

Thirdly, put your Snow Leopard disc into your Mac and when the dialog box appears, folder select optional facilities (or something like that - I do not have open right now).  Then check Rosetta and install it.

Fourth, access the site Web of Epson.  You will need to download a new set of drivers.  Here is where it gets counter-intuitive.  Looks like you should use the first driver and utility package in the list, which is referred to as the Combo package.  It refers to Snow Leopard (10.6) and it is the most recent.  But you would be wrong using this simple logic.  You want to what is now the second driver in the list - v.57 print driver, which also meets the system requirements.

Fifth, v.57, download install it, reconnect your printer and it prints very well (I only made an impression so we'll see).

I don't know if the other high range Epson printers contain instructions on the wacky way, but if you are faced with a choice between a simple and a combo pack, you can try the simplest one first.

Hope that that someone saves time and aggrevation.

Jack B. Siegel

PS this is not a new driver written for Snow Leopard - which can sometimes go down the road or not).  This, so I am told, is a Power PC driver and Rosetta (as in Rosetta stone) is a utility that converts so that it can be used on an iMac.

As a consumer, you should hate Epson.  They, like the world, knew that Snow Leopard was at least a year.  Now that they should have all new drivers and this should have been developed so that people didn't have to call technical support (a waste of time and of their of).  As the Epson R2400 is interrupted, they apparently are not required to provide the premium service and updates for it.  I bought mine about a 1.5 years.  They should not give up products that quickly after their abandonment.  As far as I know, they come out with a new printer in this price segment every two years.  I should not have bought a new printer every two years.

But as I said to myself yesterday as I struggled with the problem: if I can't print, I can't buy ink.

It's great, thank you very much. Works perfectly.

Scanning does not work with preview or Capture of Image or the HP-Scan utility. Overview analysis always selects a portion of the A4 page even when the option is not checked. Is this a bug in the driver, or is there a workaround?

You can try to uninstall HP in this way:

Go to Applications/Hewlett Packard / click Uninstall HP
    Click on continue
Highlight your device in the left pane
Hold down the Ctrl and Opt Cmd and click on uninstall
There will be a pop up that asks if you are sure you want to uninstall all hp software. (At this point, if you continue, all HP printers you have installed will need to be reinstalled)
Click on continue and let it finish

    Now run a software update.

Then, remove and reinstall the printer in System Preferences, Print & Fax.

You do not have the software now since Snow Leopard as well print & scan drivers built-in. scan from Preview apps or Image Capture. Scan from the front panel of the printer does not work yet.

  • CS2 and Snow Leopard?

My mac (G5) is out of service. I am waiting for a kernel of mac pro 8 But I always work with Photoshop CS2 and can not buy the CS5 today. Is the CS2 can run on Snow Leopard and this mac pro?

    Thank you

CS2 is designed only for PPC. It will run on an Intel Mac by Rosetta emulation, perhaps slower than on your G5.

It is a great time to consider an update to CS5, especially given that you will not be able to upgrade to CS6 in CS2.  (or stick with PPC Macs continue to run CS2)

  • Why can I not print to CS5? Mac and Snow Leopard

I can't print of CS5. I have a Canon Pro 9000 MKII, and all drivers are up to date. Whenever I need to print I have to close the image and then open it in CS4. I have an iMac under Snow Leopard and you can print from other programs.

When I try to print from CS5, I get a dialog box (see table). If I click on the button 'Cancel' (the only option) print in the menu command is dimmed until I restart CS5. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

  • Can I run the Mavericks and Snow Leopard on my MacBook?

I have a mid-2009 MacBookPro (4 GB of RAM, 2.26 GHz) running Mavericks 10.9.5. I wish I never upgraded to Snow Leopard and was planning go back from iTunes (12.3.1) is now unable to find my library when I copied the files to my Time Capsule to a new HD post with the intention that the HD Ext. would be the new home for my iTunes library. I researched how to change the location of the library and followed the instructions but no luck. Many people, including my local tech, have suggested that this is because the Mavericks and editions of the latter to iTunes doesn't play well with my old MacBook and it has been suggested that I come back to Snow Leopard. I'm ready, but use the latest version of Aperture requiring (3.5.1) of the Mavericks, and given that Apple no longer supports opening there is no way to get 3.2.4, which is the last version that can run on Snow Leopard.

I'd be able to keep the Mavericks and use it only if you use Aperture while being able to install Snow Leopard, and use it for everything? My MacBook seems better to work on Snow Leopard but opening works well on the Mavericks.

I suppose that if I went down to iTunes 10.7 it would automatically get upgraded to the top without asking my permission, so there is no interest in any downgrades iTunes and it works on the Mavericks as a possible solution.

Boot from the DVD and use disk utility to create a new partition on the internal drive. Install Snow Leopard. You can then start in which operating system never sought.

  • PSC 1210 and Snow Leopard

That's what I've done so far - unfortunately without success.

Uninstalled all HP pre - SL software. Downloaded the latest driver from HP for my PSC 1210. Driver installed. Restarted the MacBook and connected the printer.

The pilot appeared to acknowledge that the printer is connected/disconnected.

Tried to print a simple document to MS Word for Mac / Adobe Pdf / listen to extracts; the printer driver starts and loads the document in the queue then nothing...

Since then I repeated the installation process twice. Still no luck.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thank you.

Have you deleted and added the printer in the print queue?  Let's try it:

    -Sys Prefs, Print & Fax

-Select the printer in question and click the sign less down the list

-Select the sign and add it again.

If this does not work, do the same thing, only instead of the second stage, right (control), click the box of the print queue and select Reset Printing System.

  • Running Snow Leopard and Mavericks, MBP 2009

I have a MacBook Pro mid-2009 (4 GB of RAM, 2.26 GHz, 160 HD) which is running Mavericks (10.9.5). I have problems with iTunes (12.3.1) find my library since I copied the files to my Time Capsule to an HD station. I have researched and followed the instructions, but my library, but cannot be found on the disc, and also he will not find on my Time Capsule or other.

I thought I would downgrade to Snow Leopard, but opening (3.5.1) should Mavericks. Now I think running two Mavericks for when I need to use Aperture and Snow Leopard for iTunes and most everything else, because it seems to play more enjoyable with my MacBook.

How would be better in this respect? My Aperture library and iTunes are on a 4TB post HD all is supported with a second to 4 post HD. I'm a newb when it comes to such things. I read that "performing two partitions or drives multiple is the best way to handle this and provide most compatibility as opposed to virtualization". Someone said as I could "boot from the DVD and use disk utility to create a new partition on the internal drive. Install Snow Leopard. You can start and then in what operating system never desired. "I guess that means that two partitions on my hard drive or an OS on my HD and the other on the ext HD.? If so, what would be better? Could I put the Mavericks on the HD Ext. and Snow Leopard on my MacBook HD?

To complicate matters, I live in America where Macs are rare. I know that in my city of 1 million a Mac tech. My Spanish is good, but I don't speak well, even in English, computers and looking for advice or ideas before you have the tech to do anything, thinking that he can just do everything is faster and more convenient for him. I also wonder if I can do it myself, since I have backups Time Machine going back to before I installed the Mavericks, but would probably have a tech do it anyway. I just want to know what precisely I would ask him to do.

As you say, your options are either have multiple partitions on your internal drive OR install the OS 2nd on an external drive.

    [EDIT]

If you have multiple partitions on your internal drive...

    • You can run lack of disk space on one or two partitions according to what you save on partitions
    • It is convenient because you do not have to carry another device with you.
    • If a disk fails, you lose the two partitions

If you install 2nd OS on an external hard drive...

    • you will have more disk space for the two operating systems work with
    • less convenient, because you will need to have the external drive to use OS 2

  • I've updated to Snow Leopard for OSX El Capitan as the info said that my Mac 2009 could be updated.  However, I had a lot of problems and it is extremely slow, among other things.  Should I have upgraded Yosemite or something else first?

I have a 2009 IMac and had Snow Leopard 10.6.8 and IPhotos, latest version.  While he was trying to use something new, I wanted to download (can't remember what now) my system said that I had to switch to OSX El Capitan, so I did.  Since then, I've had nothing but problems, the computer is very slow to open anything and Photos is terrible - I can't do anything with it and I hate it!  I much preferred IPhotos.  My question is, should I have upgraded to Yosemite or something else before going directly to El Capitan?  If so, what can I do now to remedy the situation?  Thanks for any advice.

My question is, should I have upgraded to Yosemite or something else before going directly to El Capitan?

No, but you must have insured all the software you have installed, changes to the system, in particular, was compatible with El Capitan.

You can use iPhoto, but you should get used to the Photos like iPhoto will be is more up-to-date and may stop working at some point.

If you run this program, it will show what is installed. After the output here and we might be able to offer advice on what's causing your problems

  • can not get the color option in the dialog box print in snow leopard w/epson

I upgraded to snow leopard and then updated

my printer epson 595 driver. but when I go to print, the print dialog box print settings has no color option. It is grayed - out any of my old settings or type of paper I use.  called Epson and they had opened something in preview.  I have the color option, they say it's a prob of pshop.  any ideas?

    no color prob.jpg

Well, for a 'proper' color workflow, when you choose Photoshop to manage colors (and select the correct destination profile) you are supposed to choose without color management in the Epson driver. (which is now indicated by the parameter of color being disabled... I guess) there are a number of sites that go through the steps of printing from Photoshop for an Epson, but I don't know if they have this covered new behavior.

  • Where can I find a downloadable update and secure (from Snow Leopard 10.6.8) for my office iMac?

First of all, forgive me if I'm not on any computer jargon as you young people are.  And I don't know the details of the operation of the computer.  If possible, I just need simple answers or solutions to my need.  Terms like "segregation" and stuff like which are wasted on me.  I have an old desktop computer Apple iMac 2008 model.  Running Safari Version 5.1.10 (6534.59.10) - I love my Safari.  My computer and some sites that I try to access from time to time tell me that my server is obsolete.  I guess that means I need an upgrade.  About 6 months ago, I've upgraded to Snow Leopard 10.6.8 using a disc that I bought at the Apple store for some time ago.  Recently, I added all of the 6 GB of memory (live RAM) so I have enough memory to upgrade.

I don't want to take a giant to El Capitan step and risk problems.  I know 10.7 Lion is no longer available, but perhaps Cougar 10.8 10.9 Maverick is somehow available for download.

Download codes for 10.7 and 10.8 Mountain Lion Lion are available on the Apple Store online.

If you need specifically Mavericks 10.9 or Yosemite 10.10, go into a physical Apple store and ask.

Any upgrade of the operating system can cause problems. Back up your data and control your applications for compatibility first.
