10 XPS won't play CD/DVD
I added an external CD/DVD drive to my tablet. Unfortunately I'm unable to play any of my CD/DVD. The drive is listed as E: drive so I know it is seen. There also load/installed the music I put in the DVD player. ALL media programs, I have tried to install gave me an error "this program cannot run on your computer. What should I do now?
Windows RT, the default OS on the XPS 10, is not designed to be used as easily a complete Windows 8 with external drives. I would encourage using another form of media, such as a flash drive.
You can refer here using compatibility: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/Home
Cloud based storage can also be useful and skydrive is always recommended by Windows 8, but other options are available.

Windows Media won't play a DVD
How com windows media won't play a dvd, even with a decoder, I added this morning?
I'm having the same problem. My computer has Windows XP Professional Office. Media Player 11 is on it. But when I try to play a DVD, it says "Windows Media Player cannot play the DVD because no compatible DVD decoder is not installed on your computer" is not Media Player got it own decoder? I don't want to download some other decoder from another provider that I don't know. I got Windows Media Player on every computer I've ever owned and have never had problem reading DVD or something else. What is the problem and how to fix it? My computer has a DVD driver... and yet I can't watch DVDs... makes no sense...
And yes the DVD play on other computers and DVD player to the TV. Not a scratch above. Nothing wrong with the DVD. ANY DVD will not play the computer, with the fact that I have a problem...And Yes, I am talking about Windows Media Player.=================================================

Click on the link below. Enter your product number as that indicated on the Service tag on the bottom of the laptop (can be under the battery). You can also get the product number by pressing Fn + ESC key. After you enter the PN, click Next, then choose the software & Drivers. On the next page use the menu drop down to select your (probably Windows 7 64-bit) operating system. A list will fill with the drivers. Download & save the last Audio driver.

I have a DVD that I made and it will play in my DVD player, but the same won't play in the drive of my friend. It will play on their computer, but not the player. What is the settings I used, burning or the type of DVD disc I burned at? How or can I fix this? Thank you
Probably their player do not like the brand of the disc that you used. Try using Verbatim data Life Plus with the AZO dye.

Windows Media Player won't play certain DVD
I'm able to play most DVDs. But this one, a concert will start and then will not give me the main menu, so I'm not able to play. It crashes just after the initial logo from the record company. I would have thought it was the DVD, but I got to work and it inserted there and voila, WMP has played the whole thing very well. I tried update WMP 11, I thought it was my problem, but does not. I have XP op system. I am able to play other DVDs very well. Any ideas?
Just a guess... but I suspect that the problem is
with the DVD... some optical drives allow better
playing one DVD than others. And, it may be useful
try to clean the DVD.FWIW... There may be a firmware update for your
DVD drive... check the manufacturer's support site.
If you find an update... Follow the instructions very
carefully... install the wrong firmware can disable
the reader. If you want to try to install the firmware... What follows

Slide show won't play in DVD player
Well, I never did this before. I created a slide show and put in Windows Media Player. I add to my burn list and select burn to DVD. It goes through the complete process of engraving and allows to eject the disc. It will play in my computer, but not in a regular DVD or XBOX 360 drive. My disk driver says DVD multi recorder on it, and I ordered it to be able to burn. I have tried Memorex DVD + R, DVD - RW and DVD - R. I also tried to create it Windiws Movie Maker and Roxio. Any ideas?

Alienware 14 will NOT play the DVD-
I just spent $1,800 on a new computer Alienware 14, and I'm NOT happy.
Slot load optical drive will play Blu-Rays.
It won't play a DVD. I can't find a firmware update, or anything like that. It is located in Mashita UJ167. It is fixed at 1/region A.
While the DVD is not as important that they were a few years ago, I certainly will spend $1800 on a computer that is defective. If someone had a similar problem and knows a solution, please help.
Thank you

DVD player won't play a movie made with movie maker
I downloaded the movie maker and made the movie to mpeg and jpg saved on my computer to my Sony cybershot camera. He burned first to a DVD-R and nothing. So I saved a copy on my computer then burn a copy on a CD - R. Now, when I put the CD or the DVD-R in my Portable DVD player it must play fair? No, it's the 'bad disk '. When I put in another DVD player attached to my TV they return "not found no file supported" for CD - R and the 'bad disc' on the DVD-R. So neither my old portable DVD player or most recent DVD drive attached to the TV will play one of them. I know the movies is on their as when I stick to the computer, Windows Media Player plays automatically. Even with the DVD-R. So, this is the DVD drive laptop who can not read or what I am doing wrong?
What you were doing only works if you play the CD or DVD on the SAME computer that the movie has been created.
It will NOT pay in another computer, it won't play in any DVD player.
What you need is to burn pictures on a DVD Maker, not a "movie maker".
Issues related to the:
1. what type of operating system are you using?
2. in addition to the #1 question... Why did you have to 'download' a movie maker?
3. If you want to burn a DVD movie (not), you'll need a DVD Maker, not a Movie Maker.
What you had described, the DVD movie you will play only on the same computer that created the film.
He will not play in another computer.
He won't play in any DVD player. For your information...
Vista has Windows Movie Maker included. Creating Windows DVD is only available for Vista Ultimate and Vista Home Premium.
Windows 7 should install Windows Live Essentials, which provides programs of your choice, i.e. Windows live Movie Maker and Windows Live DVD Maker, among others.

Now I have Windows XP Professional after the upgrade to Windows XP Media Center Edition Home 2005. Now my Media Center won't play DVDs and I keep getting the error message "Missing Component". I tried to reinstll cumulative update 2 for Windows XP Media Center 2005 that has worked for me the last time I had this problem, but now I get the Error Message "you must have Windows XP Media Center 2005 installed to get this download and it shows already on my computer as installed components. When I reinstalled it 3 years ago he corrected the problem of DVD. Help, please
Thank you for your help. Here are the answers your request:
"Windows XP Media Center version 5.1 Edition - this shows when I"run"- winver - ok.
Complete error message: "Missing Component - required component Media Center is.
missing. Please contact the manufacturer of your hardware.
KB article: WindowsXPMediaCenter2005-KB900325 - usa .exe
The windows of origin is always on display as shown above, but I received a free upgrade to Windows XP Professional CD and installed on my computer. And under 'Information system', it shows as - Microsoft Windows XP Professional 5.1.2600 Service Pack 3.This problem started about 10 days when I used the CD of XP Professional to correct a problem. My computer is a Dell Dimension 5100 and I have two CDs that were sent to me - Dell - Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP 3 and Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Version 2005 with update Rollup 2.
Thanks again and I ran the "fix it" you suggested but it have no problem found to fix. Every thing works fine on my system, but Media Center won't play DVD. It will play CDs and videos on my system.
The initial problem was that I could not download the Blackberry Desktop Software - updates needed. The computer came with Windows XP Media Center Edition Home and I use Internet Explorer 8 as my default browser. I also use Mozilla Firefox as my backup browser.
Please stick to your thread to avoid confusion of origin: http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_xp-windows_update/i-have-upgraded-to-windows-xp-professional-and-now/f5245962-e9b4-4415-8aff-bc1d972f8120
Note that I asked you to MOVE your original thread on the forum of material WinXP, not start a new thread.
Also note that you don't have NO Windows XP Media Center Edition, installed now if you upgraded to Windows XP Professional.
PS: If "winver" still says Windows XP Media Center Édition, did you not correctly upgraded & something is not. Better contact the Dell Support on this issue (if they'll still talk to you).

Windows Media Center won't play DVD
Windows Media Center won't play DVD. This program has played these exact DVD in September. These DVDs can be played on other devices. Error message indicates that there is a problem with the decoder, but don't tell me the code of error message. I searched other forums, but it is impossible to find an answer to this problem, except the recommendation of a codec - although I don't know how I "lost" the codec in the month. Microsoft Security Essentials have installed and up to date, if it is not a virus. Have problems in other programs with the recognition of previously readable files. Not sure if it's related, so I'll post in separate... forums but I'll give you a link if you want to. Your help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.
Hello cowgurlup55,
In addition to the response of Santosh, please relay if the problem occurs when you play a DVD or a single. Please also relay if the same problem occurs when you try to play the DVD with Windows Media Player.
In addition, if you have an extra DVD decoder installed, then try to update the DVD decoding software.
