Stretched cluster VSAN with SRM

Hi Coomunite,

Stretched cluster VSAN can use replication on Bay?

Is it for the use of VSANS with MRS?

Good afternoon, a stretched cluster vSAN is not replication table that can be used with MRS.  He's tense storage which is synchronous and for use in areas without installation at disparate locations.  Thank you, Zach.

  • Move cluster configured with replication SRM and Vsphere

    All,

We go 2 groups in the near future to achieve a geographical distance between the 2 sites.

A cluster is equipped with VMware 5.0 replication SRM and vSphere and the other cluster running VMware 5.5 and SRM in combination with replication of vSphere.

What is the best way to move these clusters, I must stop the replication or interrupt the replication process and are these action to perform on SRM or we need to perform any action on the virtual machine itself?

I read that a stop is setting the State to not configured including destroy all files in the target directory.

Does anyone have an experience by physically moving a cluster managed by SRM (and replication of vSphere)

    Any help is welcome

  • VSAN investigations SRM

1 SRM cannot be installed on a WIndows-based vCenter? or it can work between Windows-based and device base vCenter?

2 in which case we will use VSANS, I can only do vSphere replication to replicate production on the recovering site? Can anyone suggest where I can place my datastore placeholder? Then I like a disc on my local server, or it must be on a SAN attached storage? If it is possible on a local storage, can I use a single placeholder datastore resident on a host for the entire cluster VSAN, or I will need to have data store separate placeholder for each host in the cluster VSAN?

Yes, you can have vSAN accommodation your VMs on the vSAN and protected site used as the data store target for vSphere replication to the site of DR. You can also use the data store vSAN on DR site as a placeholder data store, however in this case, as Mr. Khalsa remarked "you want to make sure that your replicas are placed in folders and your placeholders in a different folder."

You can also use another store of data shared on the site of DR spaces reserved, assuming you have a. This could facilitate the configuration and management, but that could be associated with an additional cost.

Placeholder updated VMs on the data store local / non-shared, if my memory serves me right, would result in VMs started only on host (s) who can see the placeholders when you press the red button. Normally it is therefore proposed to put placeholder VMs on the data store shared.

    I hope this helps.

  • Cluster VSAN configuration

I would check a few questions about VSAN:

    1. How is starts up I can create about the cluster size?

    Scenario 1:

    Server 01:16 discs (2 SSD 1 TB, SATA 2 300 GB, SATA 1 to 12)

    Server 02:16 discs (2 1 TB SSD, SATA 1 to 14)

In my example scenario 1, which is the ideal server for VSAN configuration? What I have to install ESXi on the 300 GB drive and the rest is used for the disk group as in Server 1? Or I can have a 2 server configuration since after installation, if applicable 14 discs I install ESXI, it will always be included when creating disk group?

    Scenario 2:

If I apply VSAN with MRS, I created a data store separate space which is not included in the VSAN disk group or I can create within VSAN as a separate disk group (what I think is tedious because a diskgroup will include 1 SSD used for reserved space for a data store)?

-Can I create starts with SSDS and SATA which are made up of different servers. As 3 SSD (1 each 1-3 Server) and 6 SATA drives (2 of each for 1-3 server) but they are grouped as 1 diskgroup?

No, you can't.  The SSD and HDS support must be on the same host for a group of records.

I see so if I installed the ESXi on this disc, it will be a full disc (I assume it will be the default value for the local data store seen first by the host) and not be included if you create groups of disks VSAN. Am I right? So it is best to have another drive to install ESXI.

You are right.  A common practice is to install ESX on a SD card or USB stick, preferably in the opposite direction.  Attention to the good size.  Newspapers must not reside on the storage of vSAN and logging for vSAN will fill quickly a 8 GB or 16 GB SD/USB fast enough.

-J' I always RAID on drives at the level of the material on the SSD SATA disks, and it is still necessary to right? If so, what VMware recommends RAID level? Can we raid SATA RAID 0, RAID 1 or RAID 6 disks? Or no RAID is necessary because VSAN will be pooling in a large data store (I guess it will be like a basic RAID software)?

No, you do not have any RAID.  OK, you could do RAID 0 if you can not do passthrough.  vSAN needs to see the disks directly.

-I guess I can create a data store local placeholder (another drive on the local server) to the replication vsphere.

    Yes, you could.

    Thank you, Zach.

  • vSan with just 2 hosts?

    Hi all

I am currently on a trajectory of vcp - VTC 6 and covered only briefly in the vSAN.

I'm really looking forward to try this at home, but the problem is that I have only two servers (HP Gen8 MicroServer)

I have seen that it is possible to nest hosts esxi etc but is it possible to use two medical examinations?

    Thank you!

    mattg1,

You can work with just two hosts or even a single, if you change the default storage policy to include force_provision set to true, depending on what stage you are at the. You will have a second replica on his own diskgroup, but if it's just for a laboratory at home for educational purposes which will be very well. VMware refers to this a strapping 'start-up' and you will see that it is actually supported during the construction of a new cluster (greenfield) where vCenter has not yet been yet (emerging) installation. In other words, you can build a host in a cluster VSAN just so that you can configure vCenter Server and then add the rest of the guests (if any) as soon as vCenter is up and running.

«By boot strapping Virtual SAN without vCenter can fill this gap and remove the obligation to have storage high availability or temporarily on the local drive to day - zero operations.» This could be applicable to a greenfield deployment scenario. »

  • Licensing vCenter with SRM

    Hi all

I seem to be going round in circles with this question - I have read the documentation and recorded a call with the service the customer on this subject, and the answers are contradictory to say the least...

We seek to implement a SRM solution in a new infrastructure - essentially a management cluster will use SRM failover management of virtual machines to a domain protected to a DC recovery in another city controller.  The DC recovery will be dark for normal operations, only more direct when MRS. failover occurs and will not host virtual machines.

The question I have vCenter licenses of MRS. The documentation states that, during failover of a vCenter server from a site protected for a recovery site hosting any other virtual machines, only 1 vCenter license is required. However the VMware licenses team said the 2 licenses are required for automatic restoration of VMs for the protected site of origin once he recovered.

So, who is? Any thoughts anyone (who is not a dealer or someone trying to sell me licenses)? Happy qualify points if necessary to answer the question...

    See you soon.

    Jeremy.

the vcenter in Dominican Republic must be put under tension and linked with the SRM server of the RD, in this scenario, it's actually light and 2nd license is necessary.

  • Scenario VSAN with 3 hosts - hosts, 2/3 down

    Hello community,

I have a question about the following scenario. Take a look at my enclosed PDF also.

    -VSAN with a total of 3 guests (A, B, C)

-VM 1 is running on host a.

What happens when the host B and C goes down?

The VM on the host of way continues running or down also?

    Thanks for that.

What I need, is that the virtual machine host A continues to operate even if the hosts B and C go away.

As the VMS on host A is running and there is no problem, I want to make it work so that problems with & B and C are resolved.

Is this possible in a VSAN environment?

"There is no problem" depends on how you look at it. From a point of view VSAN you just lost quorum as more then 50% of the components must be available. There are a lot of questions in this scenario as I see it. What you are looking for is not possible with VSAN.

  • 6 host Cluster VSAN - I want to change the IP vmkernel VSAN

    Hello

as the title says, I have 6 cluster host VSANS 6.2 (with some VMS on the store of data VSAN, off right now). What is the best method to change the addresses IP of VSAN vmkernel, without loss of data...

Someone did he do such a thing? The last byte will change slightly to the decline in the number... None VLAN / subnet etc. changes... I have just change the VSAN vmkernel and change the last octet...

    See you soon

    Paul.

I re-IPed hosts and their IP of vmk corresponding VSAN in maintenance mode as you describe. With all that in maintenance mode, you can just go and change it. I don't think that there is no danger of data loss. If you make a mistake and all start, it would detect split partitions network or other network through the assessment of health problems and you would have a data store does not work until you fix the network problems.

  • How to associate cluster esx with the data report store

    Hi all

I'm running a repore that displays data stores less than 50 free concerts. The storage team would like a coloum for esx clusters associated with the LUN. I can't see to find it and what is possible.

    Thanks in advance,

    Scott.

I would create a WCF function, script type, with a timeRange parameter and a new data store VMWDatastore context parameter, required, not a list.  Set the output in common: string.

    Add the following script:

    QS = server. QueryService

    Query = "!" "VMWCluster where esxServers.datastores.uniqueId = ' ${datastore.uniqueId}"

    cluster = server. QueryService.queryTopologyObjects (query)

    clusterNames = clusters? collect {cluster-> cluster?. name}?. Join(', ')

    return clusterNames

You can then use this in your report, feeding the entrance of context for the current row data store.

  • Cisco unity conn cluster integration with cucm cluster best practices

    Hi all

I'm trying to integrate a cucm with a cluster of cuc 9.1 9.1 cluster. Some confusing points that I hope can be clarified.

    for cucm

    1. I created a voicemail with 48 ports server that will satisfy both servers of cuc

    for cuc

I created a phone with two groups of ports system.

two point of Group on the same server port voicemail prefix but different servers cuc. each pg also has a different sequence of the tftp servers.

the problem with this design is that voice on the cucm ports not recorded with the port group that is configured to point to the cucsub. port groups cucpub point fits very well.

Is how to configure the integration of a cluster of cuc. I saw the guides but it is more oriented towards stand-alone configurations.

    Help please!

The SRND for CXN stipulates that all calls should be directed to the Subscriber with the Publisher handling overflow beyond the capabilities of the Subscriber and/or failover when the Subscriber is offline. They should not be balanced alternating.

You can create two servers of voicemail with the wizard and give them separate device classes if you need to register for the various nodes of CCM.

PS - You can also avoid this mess of all of the port on CUCM by integrating on SIP instead of SCCPS. In this case, you still have the CXN ports but they are only logical entities; CUCM has just a SIP trunk to each node. There is a separate for this integration guide.

  • Vcenter merging with SRM

    Hello

Currently, I have two datacenter (DR/DR) running vcenter separated with MRS.

We have plans to consolidate the two datacenter and use a unique vcenter instead of two. and is no longer intend to use RS.

Someone can guide us. Any documentation or reference is very much appreciated.

    Thank you

Not sure on the documentation for this scenario, but what you can do is failover machines virtual site vCenter that you no longer want to use and after the failover, just decommission the SRM.

About uninstall RS, see the documentation: Uninstall Site Recovery Manager

  • VSAN with different suppliers

    Hello

I have different nodes in my cluster from different vendors (HP and Dell), both servers have 1 local Spine disc and 1 SSD. Can I configure VSAN in this cluster?

Yes, you can do it.  But this is not recommended and I wouldn't do it for production.  Thank you, Zach.

  • Disk groups are not visible cluster. vSAN datastore exists. 2 guests (on 8) cluster do not see the vSAN data store. Their storage is not recognized.

    http://i.imgur.com/pqAXtFl.PNG

    http://i.imgur.com/BnztaDD.PNG

Do not know how even tear it down and rebuild it if the disk groups are not visible. The discs are in good health on each host storage adapters.

Currently the latest version of vCenter 5.5. Hosts running 5.5 build 2068190

Just built. Happy to demolish and rebuild. Just do not know why it is not visible on the two hosts and the disk groups are only recognized 3 guests when more are contributing. Also strange that I can't get the disk groups to fill in vCenter. I tried two different browsers (chrome and IE).

    I have now works.

All the identical 5.5 relies on ESXi hosts. All hosts are homogeneous CPU/sum of the prospects for disk controller / installed RAM/storage.

I have work. I had to manually destroy all traces of the vSAN on each single to help host node:

    (1) put the hosts in maintenance mode and remove the cluster. I was unable to disable vSAN in the cluster, I made on each node host (manually via the CLI below) then disconnected web client vCenter and return to finally refresh the ability to disable on the cluster.

esxcli vsan cluster get - to check the status of each host.

esxcli vsan cluster drop - the vSAN cluster host.

storage of vsan esxcli list - view records in the individual host group

esxcli vsan storage remove-d naa.id_of_magnetic_disks_here - to remove each of the disks in the disk group (you can ignore this using the following command to remove the SSD only falling each disc in this host group).

esxcli vsan storage remove s naa.id_of_solid_state_disks_here - this is the SSD and all the magnetic disks in a given disk group.

After that, I was able to manually add hosts to the cluster, leave maintenance mode and configure the disk groups. Aggregated data of the vSAN data store is correct now, and everything is functional.

Another question for those of you who still read... How to configure such as the VM storage strategy that migrates towards (or inspired) the vSAN data store will immediately resume the default storage policy, I built for VSANs?

Thanks for anyone who has followed.
