If you are running the x 64 version of Windows 2003 and not the Itanium version, you'll find 10.2.0.1 here:
http://www.Oracle.com/technology/software/products/database/Oracle10g/htdocs/10201winx64soft.html
You can then the patch to 10.2.0.3 by downloading the patch from Metalink.

Support for Microsoft Windows Server 2003
Hello
Can you please let me know the end of support for Windows Server 2003?
I manage and application that is currently running on Windows Server 2003 and will soon migrate to Windows Server 2012 but the exact date is not decided, as a lot of analysis should be done prior to the actual migration.
Please let me know when Microsoft end this support for their Windows Server 2003 so that I can work on that accordingly.
That would be really helpful. Any announcement already made by Microsoft on this? I found a few things online stating it would be 2015, but nothing seems to have come directly from Microsoft.
Thank you in advance for the information.

Oracle 10g on the backup of database offline of Windows Server - a few questions
I want to make an offline Oracle backup every night. Please tell me what you think of my plan.
First, run this batch file.
Set oracle_sid = PLDG
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\sqlplusw.exe/NoLog @c:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\shutdb.sql
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\oradim-arret-SID srvc - shuttype PLDG
net stop OracleORADB10GTNSListenerPLDG
It is the shutdb.sql script that calls the batch above.
set echo on
coil C:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\shutdb.log
connect /@pledgemaker as sysdba
immediate stop
spool off
output
.. .that must close the database.
Now I copy the files as the following queries three pulls up to another server.
SQL > select name from sys.v_$ datafile;
NAME
-----------------------------------------------------
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\SYSTEM01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\UNDOTBS01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\SYSAUX01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\DRSYS01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\ODM01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\TOOLS01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\USERS01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\XDB01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\MAILING01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\BO516_REP01. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA02. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_DATA03. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX02. DBF
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\PLEDGEMAKER_INDX03. DBF
SQL > select Member of sys.v_$ logfile;
MEMBERS
-------------------------------------------
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO01A. JOURNAL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO01B. JOURNAL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO02A. JOURNAL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO02B. JOURNAL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO03A. JOURNAL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\REDO03B. JOURNAL
SQL > select name from sys.v_$ controlfile;

C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL01. CTL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL02. CTL
C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\CONTROL03. CTL
After copying the above files, I want to start the database up. I first run this batch file
Set oracle_sid = PLDG
net start OracleORADB10GTNSListenerPLDG
C:\oracle\product\10.2.0\bin\oradim-demarrage-SID PLDG - starttype srvc, inst
Then run this script.
set echo on
coil C:\oracle\product\oradata\pldg\startdb.log
connect /@pledgemaker as sysdba
startup
spool off
output
-Is this comprehensive plan?
-File names three queries above collect never change in the future? Or are they the same?
-There are other files in the directory C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\, as TEMP01. DBF. I guess I ain't need to backup these files. Is this correct?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Edited by: DataHandle June 13, 2012 15:49Your plan is overperforming tasks, there is no need stop Windows Service database and the listening Service. You can take your backup without it.
1) there are other files in the directory C:\ORACLE\PRODUCT\ORADATA\PLDG\, as TEMP01. DBF. I guess I ain't need to backup these files. Is this correct?
(2) Yes, if a new file is added to your database, it will be automatically displayed by your queries.
(3) Yes, you are right, there is no need to back up Temp files.

ESX 3.5 U2 - Audio for a Windows Server 2003 x 32 for Citrix.
OK, the inevitable is here. I need audio for my VM to do proof of concept.
It is even possible in ESX 3.5 U2?
Hmmm... I never thought of that before. We give our users access to powerpoint, but most of them use it... my boss would have said them difficult if they complained about not having his property.

What product Vmware is the best for several Windows Server 2003 and 2008 implementation
Hi all
I am just wondering that if I installed VMware on Windows Server 2003 Standard Edition and Windows Server 2003 Enterprize edition on VMware I was able to use more Ram installed, our server have 48GB of Ram but Server 2003 Standard allows only 4 GB max to use, to save money, I was wondering just if I can use the way I mentioned above.
Looking at it, I think you have a misconception about the limitations of VMware, RAM and operating system. Your problem is that you see no more than 4 GB of RAM on your x 86 Server 2003 install? This is a limitation of the operating system - to use more RAM you need an operating system that can deal with the RAM.
If you install VMware Workstation on Windows Server 2003 standard x 86 edition then you will only be able to use the 4 GB of RAM, Windows Server 2003 Standard x 32 can process.
If you install VMware Workstation on Windows Server 2003 standard x 64 edition then you will be able to use the 32 GB of RAM that Windows Server 2003 Standard x 64 can process.
If you install VMware ESX, you can adjust your full 48GB of RAM and install multiple instances of Win 2003 Svr Standard, each of which can address 4 GB of your memory live available.

Create a second instance for Oracle 11 g on Windows Server 2008
Hi gurus.
I'm happy to be called a noob to this but could someone please help me. I would like to install\create a second instance of Oracle database on a Windows Server and I was wondering how to do this. Just use DBCA? And are there pitfalls that I should be looking out?
I did once on an OEL5 install and I had to change environmental variables, but I think that the process is much easier on a machine under Windows environment.
Help, please.

The application is 32-bit app and it works fine on my windows xp (xp style display), but when I run the application on a windows Server 2003 sp2 x 64 it doesn't show xp style. The Dependency walker tool shows it load C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_5.82.3790.4770_x-ww_A689AB02 comctl32.dll, it seems that this is the reason why it shows old style b/c that v5.82 is the latest version in this win Server 2003 but in my xp there is a C:\WINDOWS\WinSxS\x86_Microsoft.Windows.Common-Controls_6595b64144ccf1df_6.0.2600.6028_x-ww_61e65202. so the question is to know how to show xp style for 32-bit application on x 64 windows Server 2003? It is able to repair this installation a version 6.0 or later x 86 comctl32.dll in x 64 windows 2003 Server? and if so how do I install the comctl32.dll file?
Thank you

I'm in a difficult situtaition here. I am the daily contact with a new client. My linux guy, who is also my boss who is very busy, asked me to do some research trying to find answers for what's not on this server. We have a dual Quad Core 2.5 Ghz Lenovo server with 10 GB of ram. 2 500 GB hard drives are Raid 1. We run Virtual Server VMWare 2 on a Debian with Gnome installation as a user interface for the side of things Linux. Grub is the boot loader. There are two virtual machines running on the server. The one machine that serves as a domain controller is a Windows SBS 2008 Server 64 bit, and the secondary machine has no responsibility domain. The second machine is a Windows Server 2003 32-bit. the 10 GB of ram 6 GB is allocated to the SBS server and 4 GB to the 2003 server.
The problem I am running into is that everything is so slow, especially if I connect remotely to do any sort of administration on the network. Some examples of issues I've noticed is that as soon as I log on the server via Remote Desktop SBS console management Windows Server spike to 80-95% CPU usage and it will not stop unless I close the management console. Another instance is that if I open Backup Exec 12.5 on the SBS server it will kill the speed of the processor as well. Long story short, there are a lot of machine to do what we need to do, but something is not configured right and non of us know what it is. Another point to note is that the server has been in production for about 3 weeks, and the server seemed to have locked up just twice. My professional guess is that over time, some chose thing is eating causing the crash of the memory.
Sorry I do not have much technical insight on this topic, but this is the best I have to offer. Any questions you all have, I'll ask my people and see if I can answer, but I could really use your help here.
Thank you in advance,
Heath
2 things:
1 you really need hard drives more than 2 in a RAID 1 for proper performance under load. More disks the better. Although I don't think that's what your problem is, he'll probably be the problem Next you will do.
2. I don't know exactly where the configuration file is on your box of Debian for VMware Server, but you should consider adding the following options in the configuration file (on windows, it's the vmware 'config.ini'):
prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100".
MemTrimRate = 0
sched.mem.pshare.Enable = "FALSE".
mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE".
If you do some research, you can read about what these options (the largest is the memory page sharing - it should only be left on if you have a bunch of similar virtual machines running on the same box, that you don't have.) I honestly know why this is on by default, he kills the CPU when virtual machines are running different operating systems). These are the options that I now use standard in VMware Server deployments, with huge performance increases after you have added the. Just give a try.
Edit: Also make sure that you have installed in your virtual machines VMware tools.

Hi Srini,
The problem is resolved. Thanks for your reply.
The question is, is Windows server 2003 32-bit, and I try to install database 11g 64 bit. I tried to install database 11g 32-bit. Before that, I erased the traces of the virtual machine in my host system and reinstalled and tried. It worked.
Thank you
