  I see that you are having connectivity problems. I would like to help with that!

  I have a couple of steps that I would recommend.

  First of all, I would recommend a power reset the printer.  Unplug the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug back in the printer. Make sure that you connect the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any surge protector or power bar.

  Second, I would say after the steps described in this document:

  Also, I recommend disabling the firewall.

  Welcome to the Forums of HP's Support. I understand that you have found horizontal bars of color when scanning. I would like to help.

  I could not find any troubleshooting documents online. It may be that this has to do with the age of the scanner. Have you tried to reset the scanner?

  Important: when you perform this step, close the lid of the scanner for a calibration OK scan.

  • Lift the scanner cover and then remove the paper from the scanner glass.
  • Close the scanner cover.
  • Press the power button to turn on the scanner.
  • With the printer, unplug the power cord from the back of the scanner.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 15 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the scanner.
  • If the scanner does not automatically turn on, press the Power button to turn it on.
  • Try to copy, fax or start a new search.

  This give a try. I will continue to look for other possible solutions.

  Thank you for your message.  To clarify, when you say that you cannot install your printer, you are not able to download the driver, or you are not able to load the driver after download?  If you try to install the driver from the CD supplied with your printer, try to download the driver from the HP site and installing once you have downloaded.  Please let us know if it did or did not help to solve your problem.

    • Broken USB cables or USB devices have turned up as the 2nd most likely material number.  Usually remove all USB devices, or replace the keyboard and USB mouse to see if it's one of those existing.
    • There are a few Macs with graphics chips that have failed.  I don't know that they exist, but do not know what model Mac had these chips.
  • Software
    • antivirus protection.  It is the number 1 most panicked related software cause.  More OS X does not need antivirus, because it has its own built-in protections http://www.thesafemac.com/mmg-builtin/>.
    • Other core 3rd party extensions are a distant 2nd.
    • NOTE: not all 3rd party kernel extensions are causing problems, but when there is a kernel panic, it's the first thing to look at.

  If run kernel_task is often caused by core 3rd party extensions.  It can be caused by an application program, but then the Applications-> Utilities-> Activity Monitor show "As" an application that consumes a lot of CPU, disk IO and network IO in collaboration with the kernel_task using lots of CPU.  If there is no application burns the CPU at the same time, so it is almost always a 3rd special part of the kernel that was originally the use excessive CPU kernel_task.

  Start in safe mode is usually a test to see if 3rd party extensions are part of the case.  But in safe mode is not how you run your system, because it also loads less advanced graphics drivers and other components.  Safe mode is very conservative, but it's a great way to see if the 3rd party software is at fault and have started when 3rd party software panic the system at boot.

  ..... It is not as easy as you think, either! I am not a novice, but I can't understand how to solve this problem! If I try to move the copy or rename them, Windows XP said 'Impossible. Access denied. Even the disk is not full or write protected and the file is not in use."  Well NO, the hard disk is NOT write protected and far from complete.  No other files in "My Documents", or if otherwise, give me problems. In addition, the files themselves are not protected in writing! They don't have ANY special attributes (IE. 'Read only' and 'Hidden' are NOT defined). Needless to say, I did not define all attributes on them myself, they are not in a shared folder, and I am the administrator of my own computer. When I restarted the computer the next day, it changes nothing! The problem with these particular files remained!

  I was able to move, rename, or delete only with UNLOCKER. But it's not my problem. My problem is when I try to burn any program I use, burns keep in check the end and I keep losing DVD - R, one after the other! I understood the reason for the failures of engraving is because of this problem of reading / writing weird with the files!  WINDOWS XP created this write protect it somehow, because he wasn't on the original files! However, this limited access status is invisible! There is no set special attributes on these files!

  They are just media files, I downloaded, as well as text files (FIVE files different, slightly different formats, ALL from different sources!). They have been downloaded to FIVE different subfolders created in 'My Documents'. And it's not just the affected media files. It's all the files that are in the same folders (ie. txt, jpg) (even if I can at least open the jpg, while I can't read multimedia files).  I've never had this problem with any other similar files downloaded in the same folder. "So there was no lock file). Yet, I can play is no longer the files (so that I could before the etc..). VLC says "cannot open the file", WMP says similar. I created a new folder in My Documents, moved to the new folder with UNLOCKER, it made no difference! Same problem! Even using UNLOCKER to transfer them to the desktop, not in any folder in itself does not change a thing! Here is another beauty: software "UnlockIT" says "the file is not locked by any conducted! I have to be to imagine...

  3. Have you tried to connect to any other computer on this flash drives?
