15 laptop: access recovery drive controls

Hello

Does anyone know if there is a set of shortcuts I can enter and who let me access the recovery on the portable 15 drive?

My daughter-in-law gave this laptop to his mother saying that it no longer works... She was right. What she does not mention is that she missed a 10 windows installation and the features of recovery now point to that. The computers laptops boot ini is corrupted or something. It will not mount the drive and once again all the functions of recovery are pointing to the installation has failed and does not give me windows 8.1 in option.

Help! Heh

Thank you very much

Bruce

Hello LaZuruz1 ;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post on the recovery of your laptop and wanted to help.

The Win10 upgrade is known, in some cases, corrupt the partition of recovery that are stored by the OEM that built the original machine.  It's pretty much guarantee that no HP recovery will work.

Unfortunately, the Win10 GoBack function is known to be unreliable and even when it works, it can leave in a corrupt state machines - which seems to be what has happened to yours.

What will work restores your computer to its original factory state using HP recovery media.  It is a DVD and CD set that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, applications and settings, reinstall the original OS, drivers and utilities for HP.

You can look online for recovery from the paged media related: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers

Once there, enter your product name or number. On your software page and download the drivers, select your operating system and version. Click on "Update".  If the HP recovery support is available for your computer, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for the command Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click on the symbol '+' to expand this entty and click on order to press for more details.

Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:

If you live in the United States or the Canada, details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1

If you live elsewhere, contact details are on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.html

Note that if HP no longer provides a recovery media for your model, a few other sites, you can check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/

Don't forget to read through the material in the linked thread before attempting the recovery: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00707939

Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

    Hello GenericName,

Some users have expressed problems with Windows refresh and Reset.  I suggest to make a recovery to factory settings using Sony tool rather Windows refresh or Reset recovery at the moment.

Refresh and Reset are very similar to the recovery of Sony, but they are not the tools of Sony and Microsoft Tools.

  • Cannot access the drives on my pc through my computer vista laptop windows 7

I'm trying to network my vista pc and my laptop win 7.  See the vista pc and have access to all files and drives on my laptop win 7.  But my laptop win 7 can't access the drives (I have 2) on my vista pc.  The win 7 see the vista on my network pc.  I can access the vista computer, I can see readers, but access is denied to 'no permission, contact your administrator. "  The public record access very well, but not the 'c' and 'n' readers.  "N" is an extra internal drive, which I added.

I double checked that the readers are shared, said permission to everyone, even turn off the password just in case.

I have read another view and tried everything that seems near, please help.

I am also able to connect to my vista through Windows Media Player media files.  Just not able to access my files in the readers.

In Vista, go to start / network / network and sharing Center and make sure network sharing, file sharing, sharing protected by password and share multimedia files are all checked.

If this isn't the problem, please repost your question in the Forums of Windows7 (that you are able to access Vista and not of Windows7 is a Windows7 problem - although it probably involves some changes in Vista as well) to: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/windows7 where people who specialize in issues of Windows7 will be more than happy to help you with your problem.

  • On Windows 7, recovery drive (D) filling

    Hi people,

I just installed Windows 7 on a Dell inspiron laptop 1521. Although there are a lot of disk space on drive C, drive D (the recovery drive) has a red horizontal bar appear almost everywhere. Although it is a recovery of 10Gig drive he says that there is only 397MB left.

Some ants software reason I install gets directed to the D drive, and all the files get directed it. I just tried to download I Tunes and it fails as part of the program is directed to the D drive, but there is not enough space!

In addition, the system seems to run pretty fast and smooth. It's just this recovery disk D clutter. I hope someone can help.

    All the best,
    John

    Hi John,.

Welcome to the Microsoft Answers site.

Here's a work around to change the installation path by default for applications of the D: drive to the C: drive or which will drive you want from the registry.

Important: this message contains information about how to edit the registry. Make sure that you back up the registry before you edit it. Make sure you know how to restore the registry if a problem occurs. For more information about how to back up, restore, and modify the registry, click on the number below to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

    Back up the registry

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows7/back-up-the-registry

    To access the Registry Editor:

    1. Click Start and type regedit in the search field.
    2. In the list, click on regedit programs.
    3. Navigate to the following location HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion
    4. Now search for a key in the right pane called ProgramFilesDir.

You should see that the value of something as D: \Program Files.

5 double-click on the value and change it to what you want, for example: C:\Program Files. From then on, whenever you install a new program, Windows will use the new location in the default installation directory.

    I hope this helps.

  • Set security on 'Decline' for users of Windows/object, cannot access a drive C and d. 'Access denied'-[[problem solved]]

    last updated *.

Problem is SOLVED. Read my response at the bottom of this thread.

    * Update *.

Solved for drive D as now but it is still not accessible. Help the Microsoft Experts kindly. By clicking on the C drive, I got "access denied."

    Hello world.

I need help. I have windows 8, 64 bit computer laptop.  This system has 3 active accounts now. Account_One that is my administrator account. I have another

"limited account" created on my machine Account_two and the third one is "Guest account" account that is enabled.

Before you lend my cell phone to a friend in Account_two login I tried to restrict access to drives C and D of this Account_two which is a limited account.

While I was doing it, I put approval for object 'Windows users' 'decline '. This object is usually the last in the list of objects on the window that appears when we sail to click with the right button on C drive > properties > Security. I realized that instead of

for Account_two I did for Windows users / which means maybe Windows/users / * which covered my admin account too and that too on the drive root C.

When I connected to my Account_one account that is an administrator account, I'm not able to access drive C and D where I put the authorization of 'decline' for all the attributes as shown above to object/Windows users.

One of the folder that was on my desktop allows me to go inside the d drive as I kept this shortcut for easy access, but there is no way to navigate from c or d ' training on domestic issues. Not just me even Windows can not access important services such as 'Restore' and many others built in utilities of windows which simply will not charge blinking message windows has no access to it!

Please help how to access drive C and D for my administrator account. I am connected to this account now, but can not access drive C or d. when I go to the Security tab in the drive C and D right click Properties I get the screen it as: you must have read allowed to view the properties of this object. Click Advanced to continue. When I click on advanced, I see the "advanced security settings for local disk (d :)), where the owner is presented as: unable to display current owner."  Exchange (Link) when I click on 'Change' I get the error message: cannot open access control editor access is denied.

So I put the Windows/user object to "deny" on the tab security for all read and writes, and I'm not able to access anything whatsoever since my administrator account.

Please let me know how to change access to 'allow' for c and D drive for the object user/Windows. From now there is no way to access this object by result cannot set permissions there.

    Help, please.

    Thank you very much.

    Thank you very much.

    Problem is SOLVED!

After three days of effort I was finally able to fix this mess.  It took me three days after going through many similar positions as mine but no final answer or fix, so I kept

through the 'access denied' messages on this community and won an idea on what

had happened and what needed to be done. What I found that there are several hundred people

like me, who have faced this problem and there is no final official help file to explain how to fix

He IS but he MICROSFT official 'support chat' where they ask for $149 to connect remotely and difficulty

    the problem!

in any case, here's how I solved my problem for people who need to fix it in case it happens to you.

How the problem began; Read my original post above on top. In short, I set the security setting to refuse to

Users of Windows/under the Security tab that comes after a right click drive then properties > Security. I put it and lost access to all readers!

    How I fixed it.

Thanks to some nice people on this page of the community who have posted knowledge. A man had displayed the creation of "Administrator" "guest account of orders that I did now, I could sign out of my account and get on the 'Administrator' account with admin privileges so that I could fix it the mess on my account problem. So if you have similar problem first create the command prompt administrator account. However this only solved the problem partially as I could reverse the problem only on drive D and not on the drive C. I was able to go to security settings and set the properties 'allow' for drive D, but I was not able to read the page of security for drive C as he said I haven't read privilege he even newly created admin account.

Now if I needed the "Access denied" problem on drive C. I continued through messages of so many "access denied" here and discovered about utilities like SFC, TAKEOWN, ICACLS, but none of them worked from the command prompt I always said "access denied."

Thing was to take the mouse to the right of the screen and get this blue bar, then settings > change PC settings > General - Advanced startup-press the button -. Then he made up the blue screen, where you have the option called troubleshooting... go there and then advanced setting > look to start Windows from the command prompt. Do you have a command prompt with C:\windows\system32 on the command prompt. Here, my order was accepted both takeown and icacls. If I shot a command there: TAKEOWN /F /R C:\/a and I also tried icacls to give permissions after checking using the syntax on the command line itself. All commands ran successfully this time, but be careful what you give in the command. It's under a lien high built based on the account of Windows 8.

Takeown command executed successfully and it solved my problem. I leave the command prompt then connected to this administrator account. This time, I could go to the Security tab of the C drive and set allow it for users here. Still on some issues, I was getting no access permission, but I was asked to change it to allow me to access to and I was able to do.

For access to the C drive on the Security tab, you need to go to the 'Advanced' and change the owner too.

in any case I'm happy this is finally resolved even if I wasn't getting much help responds I used the previous positions of other threads to solve.

Since he was not an official help of WINDOWS or MICROSOFT on that page, I'm sure I did the security setting while making the methods of trial and error on my machine which may not be the right setting from the point of view of security in general, so I'll try to reset the default state machine as my problem is now solved.

So I fixed it. If you need help let me know and I'll try to help you, and I do not charge $149 or $99.  ;-)

When you buy a new laptop model, you will not get recovery disk with your laptop. original recovery image is saved on the HARD drive. In s manuals you can find detailed instructions on creating recovery discs and advice why is so important backup image recovery.

    Here is the original information:
    * Important INFORMATION *.

    * Your system is equipped with a hard drive recovery system. If you need to repair your computer in the restaurant to the original factory condition, you can do so directly from the hard disk (press F8 when you start your computer, choose "Repair your computer" and follow the instructions in the menu) or create a bootable recovery for this fin.* drive carrier

    * Toshiba recommends you create recovery disk medium using the "Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator' to ensure that you are able to restore your computer to the original, factory-installed state even if your computer is seriously damaged *.

Is there a reason why you didn t create a support of recovery in the past? Please don't get me wrong, you have been informed but you didn t take care about it.
Anyway, Toshiba offers to get it again. Yes you have to pay, but you will get the active OS version again including all necessary drivers, utilities and software tools, additional again.

  • Recovery drive D

I accidentally formatted my recovery drive D on my laptop Envy.  Is there a way to restore this drive?  I did the recovery disc, but want to restore my drive if possible.

    Hello

Unfortunately, the only way to recover the recovery Partition is to perform a 'Factory Reset' using your set of recovery disks - this procedure will reinstall the operating system, all the drivers, and almost all of the original software (the exception being often tests of MS Office).  It will also recreate the original scores, including the recovery Partition.

  • We get an error "D: / is not accessible." a device i/o error"when trying to access hard drive

    * Original title: e/s problem

I am not able to access my hard disk.windows that says: -.

"D: / is not accessible." an i/o device error. "

I also tried chkdsk but it says that it is not directly operatable.

    Hi Rishanpc,

Thanks for the post. I am sorry to hear that you found a mistake "D: / is not accessible." a device i/o error"when trying to access hard drive.

I imagine the inconvenience that you are experiencing. I will definitely help you with this.

To help you suggest several steps to solve the problem, I would appreciate it if you could answer the following questions:

    1. have you checked if the cables are connected properly?

2 what is an internal hard drive or external?

3 have there been recent changes made on the computer before the show?

The most common cause of a non-accessible i/o error is a disconnected cable. When the computer tries to access a device, and it's no response after several tests, it will generate this error. Another common cause is when a program tries to access a file that has been removed or eliminated.

    Disconnected Hard Drive/cable misconfiguration

Internal hard drives require a specific set up. IDE hard disks can have only one master. If another hard drive has its defining together correctly pin code, a user is perhaps not able to access the data, and he will receive a message that the drive are not available. Cables come off inside the case of the computer also cause a not accessible i/o error. The user can correct this problem by opening the case and attach the data cables for each drive safely at the back of each drive and the motherboard.

You can follow the steps below and check if it helps.

    a. go to "Control Panel" in the start menu and choose 'performance and Maintenance '.

    b. click on 'System' then go to the Hardware tab and click on "Device Manager."

    c. find the device that records an error by developing the appropriate category nodes. If the device has a red "X" on the icon beside its description, the hardware is disabled; Go to step d to activate it. Otherwise, go to step e.

    d. go to the general tab and click on "Activate the device" found in the device status section. then press 'OK '. (Note: you may need to follow the guests, as indicated via an assistant of favorable device.) If you do, continue to click "Next" and follow the instructions until the process is complete.) Test the equipment. If an error is displayed, go to step e.

    e. click the general tab and click "Troubleshooting" found in the device status section and then press 'OK '. Follow the prompts to fix the problem. If an error is still displayed, go to step f.

    f. click the driver tab and click on 'Update driver'. Follow the instructions until the process is complete and then to test the equipment.

If you perform a factory image recovery using the recovery usb media, the current recovery partition will be replaced by a new one.

Be aware that a factory image recovery will come back to your laptop in its delivered State. This means that all the software that you have added since the introduction and all your data will be deleted. So if you want to go this route, I strongly suggest to copy all of your important data to an external drive and find all of the software and license keys) you want to reinstall and it is ready for use.

  • How to reinstall vista on the recovery drive D?

About 2 years, a Sunday, my hard drive crashed and I was totally novice in time (as much as now, more I forgot the documentation provided with it, my "old" laptop Gateway) so I called a computer repair place listed on Craigslist (no classes please) and said that they could fix and I should just bring him.  Well, I need desperately so I took ("in" is a private home).  Hours later, I got a call that it has been fixed.  They did replace some hardware and the computer was working again, but they gave me the 'good news' that he had thrown an installation of Windows 7 free of charge.  I wasn't happy, but as I quickly bought a new computer with Windows 7 on it anyway, I learned to love it.  With a new laptop, I don't use it much anyway.

A hinge fails to my 'new' HP laptop and a COMPUTER technician who is a friend is fixing to me.  In the meantime, I have to use this "old" laptop.  He began to act up and I did a system restore, which did not help.  I have recently met a disc of the operating system for this 'old' computer and it's a good thing because little time after the system restore, I received continuous messages of MSE I wasn't "authentic" Windows  It got really teed OFF... some good news-free-install, right?  I certainly didn't use software counterfeit... the only inconvenience factor is more than enough for me to come back on the right path.

I decided to re - install my real honest to-God-Vista from the bridge of the operating system disk included.  I never had anything like the front and of course, when I was asked where to put the installation, I wasn't sure and so I put it on the C drive, thinking (just think) that things could spill over into the D recovery drive.  He does something like that.

I tried to go through the steps I used to re - install Vista but it doesn't seem to want to pay attention from now to the OS disk when I use F10 at startup.  What can I do to get this on the recovery disk?  I think it should be there.

I've already replaced all sorts of files, etc. from the backup I made before I did the re-install, if that makes a difference any.

Please give me some instructions to get my OS on my D recovery drive files.  Thank you.

    Hello

You can't put it on the recovery disk (Partition); end of the story.

Your recovery Partition on your hard drive was photographed during the production of your computer by the manufacturer.

If it is destroyed, removed, etc., damaged you cannot replace / reinstall or repair.

    You have the DVD anyway.

    See you soon.

  • Recovery drive D has disappeared.

My recovery drive D on my PC was completely full. I did a complete system restore. Nothing happened on the drive D. certain way, the recovery drive D has been erased.  Is there a way I can get it back?

    Hello

Loy I'm sorry, but you can't replace the contents of your D: Recovery Partition on the hard disk

The recovery Partition D: was photographed on your hard drive by your computer manufacturer during the production of your computer for these reasons:

    1. to reinstall Vista from in the case of a failure of the system, based on individuals or the keys at startup.

    2. to make the recovery disks on if your drive hard breaks down, so that you can then reinstall the operating system on a new hard drive.

    .

If you need to reinstall Vista yet, here are two methods to do this.

You can contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send you a set of recovery disks.

They should do this for a small fee.

To reinstall Vista using their recovery disk/s, you start from the 1st recovery disk they provide and follow the manufacturer's instructions to reinstall:

You need to change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order:

How to change the Boot order in BIOS:

    http://pcsupport.about.com/od/fixtheproblem/SS/bootorderchange.htm

"How to replace Microsoft software or hardware, order service packs and replace product manuals.

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/326246

Some manufacturers have more available Vista recovery disks.

If this happens, you may need to try this instead:

You can also borrow and use a Microsoft Vista DVD, which contains the files for the different editions of Vista (Home Basic, Home Premium, Business and Ultimate) must be installed. The product key on your computer / Laptop box determines what Edition is installed.

Other manufacturers recovery DVDs are should not be used for this purpose.

And you need to know the version of 'bit' for Vista, as 32-bit and 64-bit editions come on different DVDs

Here's how to do a clean install of Vista using a DVD of Vista from Microsoft:

"How to do a clean install and configure with a full Version of Vista '

    http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/117366-clean-install-full-version-Vista.html

And phone Activation may be necessary when you use the above installation method.

"How to activate Vista normally and by Activation of the phone '

    See you soon.

    Maybe it's 10 minutes, 10 hours, or whatever. http://www.Vistax64.com/tutorials/95418-disk-management-delete-extend.html

You were the right way > right click on D: > Delete Volume > then right click on C: > extend the Volume...

    To delete a Partition

    1. open the control panel. (Classic view)

    (A) click the Administrative Tools icon.

    (B) click on computer management.

2 click on continue in the UAC prompt.

3 in the left pane, click on disk management under storage. (See screenshot below step 4)

4 right click on the volume (EX: E:\ ) you want to remove and click Remove the Volume.
NOTE: If your hard disk is currently set up as a single partition, then do not remove it. You can also delete a system partition (OS isntalled on), boot partition or partition that contains a virtual memory paging file, because Vista needs this information to start correctly. You can use the Vista installation disc to remove it.

5 click Yes at the confirmation prompt. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: This will leave the partition as unallocated (empty) with no drive letter.

    To extend a Partition

6 right click on the partition (EX: C:\ ) you want to extend in the now unallocated partition and click Extend Volume. (See screenshot below)

7 click Next to the Welcome to the Volume Wizard window extend. (See screenshot below)

    8. Select the amount of space in MB you want to use from the unallocated partition to use to extend this partition. (See screenshot below)

NOTE: If you want to make a new partition, and then select all the space available for this disc. If there were other disks with unallocated disk space, they would be shown under the selection available .
WARNING: It is recommended that you do not extend a volume on a disk with another disk free space. If one of the disks has a hardware failure, all data on that partition (volume) will be deleted.

    (A) click Next.

9 click Finish in the window end extend. (See screenshot below)

10 you will now see the console with the new partition Extended , ready to be used volume disk management. (See screenshot below)

    11. close the computer management.

12 click computer in the Start Menu and see your new Extened the volume partition. (See screenshot below)
NOTE: In this example, we will have a large partition on the same hard drive now.
