20/01/11 Windows preparing to set up Windows

Last night all our Win 7 Machines did an update and it takes me to restart the computer, once we rebooted the systems that they all were stuck to prepare to set up Windows screen for more than 6 hours, I could understand 1, but so far we have 6 systems, in doing so, we are a fraid to do the rest because of this problem ideas or suggestions? It maybe SP1 that I've heard, but I'm not sure.

Any help would be great - these machines are machines of IT technology too - we are lost without them.

Thanks - Chuck

Prepare to set up windows's been at it for a long time... how long does take?

    Hello

Installation and configuration of windows procedure should not last long
I have installed and configured all Windows 7 within 60 minutes.
In case of installation of Toshiba image that could this process took longer thanks to the installation and the configuration of other tools and utilities

If the installation takes too long then it might be possible that the process has failed
I think that the case you shut down the laptop and try again

For this, you can use HARD drive recovery option.
Press F8-> fix my computer-> drive HARD recovery

  • Preparation surface set

My surface refuses to download applications more. Someone suggested that he may have installed the updates so I should restart. It was 30 minutes ago and it is stuck on the screen that says "preparing to set up Windows. Do not turn off your computer. "A suggestion was to hold down the power button until it stops, then restarts, but I learned that reset the machine and lose all my data, applications, etc. What should do?

    Hello Davelef,

I let the Surface continue to set up at least 90 minutes before you stop it manually. You can have an another Windows Update after the install/configure, you can try this when your Surface is restarted:

    1. plug the Surface in the diet. Restart the Surface and the connection, the type of screen start 'control', select Control Panel.

    2. in the control panel in the upper right corner, select the category and replace large icons.

    3. scroll down the choice of Control Panel, and then select Windows Update. Look for the updates, and install any that are there. Your Surface may ask you to allow him to restart when these are installed, allow it to restart. Pending applications should install once you return to the start screen.

    4. If there is no updates to install, select the Windows key on your touchcover or tablet. Pending applications should be installed.

    I hope this helps!

  • Windows 7 x 64 SP1 Update stuck on "Preparing to set up..." »

Successfully, I downloaded and starts installing about 3 hours ago.  everything went well until what it restarts.  It's now on a page that says: 'preparation set up Windows.  Do not turn off your computer"... for two hours now.

What should I do?  Wait any longer...? The lively circular icon that shows that the machine is working again, so I don't think that it is frozen... I also occasionally see the HDD LED flashing indicating some activity... but it's far too long now.

Had this same problem - after about 3 hours of waiting (kept light infrequent disk activity), I pressed CTRL + ALT + DELETE and got the login screen.  Connected and everything was fine.  Looks like someone forgot to program in the section "what to do when you're done" was updated. I hope now that it happens on another pc just if I can do it again...

  • "prepare to set up windows" with Windows update turns off!

    OK here is a mystery.
I did a job with Windows 7 laptops, I have an installation script that installs the MS Word and MS Excel Viewer Viewer and change some settings grouppolicy.

Windows Update is configured to "search the updaes but let me choose whether to download and install them.

Now, occasionally, and not on all laptops can add, when I shut down Windows he decides he needs to do some "configuration" which lasts 30 minutes. Meanwhile, the HARD drive light is roughly 100% of the time.

Now if Windows update turned off the coast of that Windows is trying to do.

When I check that nothing has changed with the installation of the update.

How do stop this behavior... any ideas would be greatly received.

To start in safe mode follow the link given below.

If you are able to boot to the desktop in mode safe mode try Method 1 if one does not work follow method 2.

    Method 1:

Navigate to the specified location and delete the files, and then try to boot into normal mode

    c:\windows\winsxs\reboot. XML

    c:\windows\winsxs\pending. XML

Once you boot to normal mode try to install the updates one by one and check if Windows update terminates the process.

    3. in the list of restore points, click a restore point created before you started having the problem, and then click Next.

  • Preparation configure Windows

Help, please.  I just bought a new laptop a few days ago and since the first day, that it's work perfect, then yesterday when I stopped it, I noticed that automatically, he began to make the updates window, which took about 30 minutes, then when I tried to turn my computer back on it stuck on the page 'Preparation set up Windows.  He stayed there for about 4 hours and then allowed me to the office, but when I tried to open my explorer, nothing happened.  So I restarted my computer, and STILL he pasted on the page of 'preparation set up Windows'... that's the 5 times I left the computer 'prepare to set up windows' and she ends every time, I can't open my program explore

    Hi Angeldiva

I followed the steps above that provided by the engineer of Microsoft Support answers and my computer now works again.  However, the only way I was able to make it work is by starting mode safe mode with networking, as you are given the option to start in safe mode or safe mode with network.

    Good luck

Hi all, I have recently experienced some of the problems reported here: - Windows update doesn't work (stuck at 0% for the hours) - Windows cannot stop ("preparing to set up Windows. Hello

I got his machine Windows 8.1 (Toshiba Satellite Pro) for a few months now. Everything has been working fine so far.

Yesterday, I started and got the message: "preparing to set up Windows does not shut down the computer" which, I remember, he first thing appeared when the machine is started the first time when it was new. I thought that it is weird but left it to agree with her. On his return (a few hours later) the message still displayed but the animation (small points of indirect approach) has frozen.

I have tried rebooting several times and there same thing is happening. I tried to access safe mode (F8, SHIFT + F8, F12 keys) but nothing happens. I just get he same screen that ends by freezes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thank you

    John

    Thanks for your reply Ramesh.

I actually spoke to the representatives of the technical support of the manufacturer this morning who gave me some strategies to enter the rear part (so to speak) of the system and run the troubleshooter.

If you switch the machine slot and turn off in quick succession, after 3 or 4 repetitions, it will launch automatically in the recovery routine and thus allow access to troubleshooting tools.

Another method was to hold down the key "zero" from the top of the keyboard (not the numeric keypad) when starting the machine.

I guess that these methods are specific to the manufacturer of this particular machine (Toshiba) with the use of generic, but useful to know in any case.

The problem is now resolved, but it might be useful to add the above tips to the knowledge base for future reference.

Thanks again for your kind response.

    Kind regards

    John

    Hi John,.

Thanks for posting the request in Microsoft Community Forums.

You remember the updates that you installed recently?

This problem normally occurs when updates could not set up within the system. It can also occur if there is no third-party program conflicts.

To resolve this problem, use the following methods, starting with the first method below. If it solves your problem, click on the following method.

Note: Do not restore/update system for the moment.

We will try to put the operating system of this situation and then try to install the updates in the clean boot state. You also try to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter to see if that helps.

  • T-430 nine (he got today) 2102 Mini Sata error and Windows would not be up-to-date

So I tried to install the update to windows when it got stuck on preparing to set up the scene, then the Sata Mini 2102 error popped up. Error, the installation itself, defeated once again, and then it seemed to be installed, except that it is not. 4 updates were for .NET Framework. Anyone know of a solution?

The windows update issue is resolved and I got the T-430 with mSata. I didn't get the error 2102 since Windows Update problem has been solved, so my concern is that this issue is not related to the windows update and that there is something wrong with the mSata.
