2540:2 Deskjet printers

My Control Panel lists 2 printers

1 Deskjet 2540, who is listed as offline and

2 HPD6D 89 "C (Deskjet 2540) which is online and registered as my default printer.  This has been implemented by a HP technicial remotely in response to a problem that I had with 2540 go offline ramdomly.

What is the difference between the two?  and oh yes, the HPD6D works well

Thank you

Bob H

Hello @rj7500hen ,

Welcome to the HP forum.

To answer your question, HP has worked with Microsoft to have the basic pre installed in the Windows 8.1 operating system drivers.

When the windows wireless 8.1 OS is looking for printers, it will often show the HPXXXX in option.

It's the "class driver. It supports the basic functions of the printer.

The other driver shows probably offline because the printers IP address has changed.

IP addresses are distributed by the router for different devices.

I have a question for you. Can analyze you?

If Yes, then it please ignore my question.

If not, please let me know if I can help you get this feature working again for you.

  • Win 7 and old Deskjet printers

I have a 995c DJ and 770 which are not supported in Windows 7 either by HP or Windows 7 drivers.  I found a good work around this two-sided supports and other advanced features.  Download driver XP; Right click on properties, click with the left button on compatibility, then mode XP (SP 3 or 2) and run as administrator.  Double-click on the installation file and it asks you if you want to UNLOCK the incompatible installation; answer YES.  Otherwise, it does not, because it is blocked by windows 7.  The same properties with the Setup file (should be default) and double click on setup.exe.  It should complete normally and you can proceed with auto detection or change you your driver to the newly installed.  I also used the 990 drivers for the 995c and it works well with advanced features.

Thanks for the tip, but I'm not aware of a DJ 770.  What is the DJ 720 or 970? Both have drivers available on Windows 7 via WIndows Update.  You can find the complete list of compatible printers here.

  • HP Deskjet 2540: HP Deskjet 2540 - do of paper source in

I have a new printer, simply set up, followed the instructions as carefully as possible, but whenever I try to print the paper doesn't feed in - he gets a short distance down, then pulls to the right and jams. It's pretty easy to go out and there is no bit left into the printer, I was all troubleshooting options, the book is super smooth as I put away each leaf with the slightest hint of a fold, I carefully aligned it, I pushed down until it stops, not too well and I caught guard tight but not too tight.  I'm now stuck as to what else to do. On Windows 10 but don't know if it's 32-bit or 64-bit.

  • DeskJet HP 2542: hp 2540 won't print documents from the computer, but test print and network configuration page

My printer hP model 2540 series deskjet A9U27A not print from my computer. It passes over the Network Setup page test, also has good test print. The printer is set up wireless. Have you tried the scan and printing doctor, but it says there is a software problem. I've uninstalled and reinstalled the software with the original disc, then provided with the software most up-to-date of HP. I did this step several times. Tried several drivers. Tried a static IP address. I'm through with this printer. have also tried to this cycle. Also tried to reconfigure the system. Nothing seems to work. NOTE: When I got this printer I got the same problem, but since it was under warranty Hp remotely solved the problem. They said that the issue was the software so they installed a kind of universal software. Can someone get to the challenge to help me solve the problem printer? Thanks in advance for any help.

So after a search much more, someone else came up with a solution to my problem. For windows users, it is a question of the evolution of the drivers. A specifically. The 990c driver. I'm not sure of the exact user or the subject header, but it goes like this for windows vista.

    1. click on start

    2. click on Control Panel

    3. click on printers

    4. right click on the printer in question

5 point to run as administrator, and then click Properties

    6. click on continue

    7. click on advanced

    8. click on new driver

    9. click on next

    10. click on HP under manufacturer

    11. under printers, click HP deskjet 990c

    12. click on next

    13. click on finish

    14. click on apply

    15. click on ok to close

This is very similar for all windows programs operating.

with a little research, you will be able to find the exact measurements for each operating system

Hope this helps all who have the same problem

  • HP Deskjet 2540: Wireless printing problems with HP Deskjet 2540

    Hi all

I have a problem with a printer HP Deskjet 2540 - it prints if I connected a USB cable; However, he refuses to print if I try to print wireless.

I had initially solved this problem when I went into system preferences > printers and Scanners and noticed two 2540 Deskjet series icons in a window titled 'Printers '. I ended up removing one of these icons and set it as a default, which temporarily seems to solve my problem. Now, I see two icons back in the "Printers" menu and my printer refuses to print over my wireless connection.

My printer is connected to my internet connection so I don't think there is a problem here - I also recently installed the software for this printer to make sure it wasn't some kind of driver issue; However, it doesn't give me the permanent solution, that I'm looking.

Any advice? My operating system is OS X Version 10.9.5

    Hey @love2dance,
