27 a XPS can be great!

Hello

I played with my new XPS One 2710 full load.  So far, he's looking good, especially since I have to struggle with Windows 8.

However, the display of the Office application is best fair.    I found the graphics card Intel and the control panel of media (Ctl-Alt-F12) but nothing I've tried makes it brighter without taking everything.

I noticed that when I told it to recalculate the Windows experience index, the screen suddenly became beautiful!  He got bright and sharper... looking as good as my second external monitor (Samsung Syncmaster).  Day and night.

How can I force the computer to be in this mode, all the time?   If it comes down to force the NVIDIA card to support, that's what I would do... but I doubt that's the case.

Thank you

Richard U.

And here is the real answer!  At least, I think it is.  Default values have the computer using the Dell power plan, with the visible energy saving alternative.  Click on 'See the supplementary schemes' to see the high-performance option.  That does the trick. Dell plan default limit to 1/2 brightness and there is nothing we can do to ignore that, far as I can tell.

I realize that Dell uses the M version of the graphics card in order to keep things small, but there is no battery on this beast: unplug the unit, and he died.  So why the hell is it battery-saving plan? To be concerned about energy issues, it should be an option to switch to the subdued after a few minutes of inactivity, but really, it was crazy.

Compress of hope is the right term.

Ask about it for many years.

General video formats are already compressed. To compress again will remain futile, in fact they can actually grow larger.

You'll have to move the video to a server like DropBox and then send the link to the other party so that they can download.

  • XPS 8500 card video, power, upgrades

I see several threads looking for upgrades XPS 8500 graphics card that can be used with the stock PSU 460w or improved power supply.   However, in upgrading the GPU for this machine, there are a few cards that are not compatible and will result in a black screen.    Even with a correct video card installation, an appropriate power supply and/or upgrade video card fans are going to work, but there is no video.   The problem lies in the BIOS to 8500 XPS motherboard does not recognize the video card and it is a known issue that has carried over from the XPS 8300 to the current XPS 8500.

There was a video BIOS updates of some card manufacturers to fix this problem for some cards, but there are many old maps that do not work.  The safest bet would be to use a new card with the PCI 3.0 specifications.

In the sticky in this forum, a link to the current Dell drivers shows the following video cards that support drivers for Windows 8:

Since it's cards Dell OEM that are supported, there are also specific questions from manufacturer where a given video card model may or may not work according to its configuration.  Considering that an XFX HD 6870 will work in the XPS 8500, the same map made by another manufacturer may not work.

Please consider this when you do upgrades of the PSU and GPU and, hopefully, BIOS upgrades in the future will answer these questions.

It would be useful if you have a SPECIFIC card that does or does not, to indicate the manufacturer and the model number full in this thread.

Operating system information and the Bios would be also useful, and if you use the power SUPPLY Dell or a block upgrade of power.  Specific model please!

    Edit:

Please include following and other useful information

Manufacturer number and model of graphics card:

    BIOS:

    Operating system:

Power supply manufacturer otherwise Dell 460w PSU:

    Compatible: Yes or no

Original card with the system that has worked:

I just installed a GTX 970 in my Dell XPS 8500 with questions for the first time.

    It's pieces:

    • Updated my XPS 8500 Motherboard Bios to version "A12" while you wait for my parts arrive
    • EVGA NVIDIA GTX 970 Superclocked Graphics Card (EVGA 04 G-2974-KR)
    • EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 750W power supply (PSU) (110-B1-0750-VR)

Note that I have chosen the 'Return of the fan' version of the card, rather than the version dual fan ATX 2.0.  This is because the design of the housing of the 8500 XPS is not 'Great' traffic.   The style of 'Référence' (shell solid video card with a single fan - which pulls air from the case in... and vents at the rear of the PC) is better suited to the XPS.

Put a new power supply in a Dell XPS 8500 is a little something.   All ATX power supplies were about the same height and width (150mm or 5.09 ") and (86mm or 3.38").    The problem is the depth.   How deep into your PC can reach (extending to the back of your CD/DVD).   Don't forget, you have this tiny USB/headphone jack thing sunk to half way:

I did some steps and realized that MAX PSU depth that would work would be approximately 165mm or about 6.5 ".     It's difficult because I wanted a 750w power supply more power and its REALLY, REALLY hard to find good food slot with less than (180 mm/7.09 "").   And who didn't come home.

I have scoured every Watt 700 +, 80 + certified PSU carried by Newegg (from 01/12/2014).   Then, I checked cross the specs from newegg for each prospect with the manufacter to audit Web site.  I focused only on PSU at least 8 comments and then only if they have averaged a 3.5 rating (unless the low notes were for trivial things like discount).

After having looked up the plug on more than 200 of the PSU (over a period of 5 hours), I only came with 5 potential:

    • EVGA SuperNOVA 750B 1 $69.99
    • MARINE RX-1000AE 1000W $119.99
    • SeaSonic SS - 750KM 3 750W $139.99
    • CORSAIR AX series AX760 $159.99
    • Coolmax 1200W ZPG-1200 b $282,35

I also want to remind the reason why you MUST make sure that your power supply is 165mm or less in depth, and you can't say anything by looking at a a particular series.   Many unique models factory in a series which is just 'smaller '.   You have to look at the specifications of each individual model.

For example, all except a psu on 700 wats EVGA are (180 mm/7.09 po).  Only 750B 1 is about 165mm.   You will also see that he is a 'Bronze' rather than 'Gold' or 'Platinum' unit 80 +.    I suspect it's "BRONZE" side has something to do with the size.   I they omitted huge heat sinks and a little efficiency to achieve the reduction of 15mm in size.   The quality of the PSU is always more than enough for my needs, and the price can not be beat.

Now for the installation.   I won't say it was EASY to get the power supply into the case.  I had to unplug all my SATA power supply and cables.  I had to bend the cables on top of ATX case a little, and I had to be very patient reconnection.

I also had to reroute the wire connecting the top of the case to the Mini PCI (?) card slot.   I didn't honestly it only those who were (they sit behind the rear USB sockets on the motherboard), and they snap on with small quotes as the clichés about the Jeans.  I tried to not interrupt them (because they look fragile), but I accidentally their popped.   Thank God they fix on.  There are even small arrows above each terminal (a black solid, outline to indicate white) so get back you them on in the right order.

I found it very convenient for stuff a lot of cables in the vacuum "floppy" spot below the CD player.   I also found that I had to plug in the cables in a certain order - because some cables blocked the access to the terminals for others.   (SATA/Power to the CD player, for example is right behind UAP.  I had to do these first, because I would never get my fingers here if I saved that for the end).

Now for the pre-installation preparation.   I updated the BIOS to A12 and downloaded the installer for the GeForce drivers before moving on my hardware.

Driver Bios A12 two years ago, but they allowed detection of my GTX 970.  Someone asked me for the version of the drivers, so this is:

Dell XPS 8500 / Vostro 470 system BIOS
    A12. EXE
    Release date October 29, 2013
    Last updated October 31, 2013
    Version A12

As I said at the beginning, I was on the A09, but A12 is cumulative and takes you all the way (including all versions in the meantime).

I uninstalled all my old ATI drivers until I stopped the first time.  I did install the Geforce drivers until after I went on my hardware.  (I wanted just the installer on my desktop - ready and waiting).

Overall - it worked.  The map spans 2-4 "later in the case, but it fits.  The power supply is approximately 4 "away from the back of the CD, but it fits.   And it starts.

I just finished playing "Far Cry 4' on the Nvidia setting 2560 x 1080.   The new parameter (beyond ultimate) appeared after I plugged on the map.  I also played Assassins Creed Unity (which is what I chose as my free with the card game - since I already had 4 Far Cry).   The two seem to play 60 fps with no problems.

Because of the fan on the power SUPPLY and the evacuation from the rear video card, my machine works currently more cool now.

Hope that helps.   My total cost was about $435.  $349 for the card and $69 for the power supply (taxes extra).

    Sincere greetings,

    Andrew Russell

P.S. If you have questions about this weird brace to the right of the PSU...   I added a 3rd hard drive under the CD player.  There is only the 'Front holes' so I'm a little creative and put up one of the "PCI mounting plates" from an old ATX case.   I folded the right-hand curve and he the perfect length to attach as a cross tube to keep the hard drive in place.

  • How can I increase the size of my Inbox (Mozilla Thunderbird)?

I get the following: "the Inbox is full and cannot hold messages more. To make room for more messages, delete any old or unwanted mail and compact the folder. »

I followed the thread on the forum, but still have no answer. I want to just increase the size of the Inbox on my desk. This should be simple!

    Help, please.

    No, it's not simple.
Create another folder, move some mail on it and make room and compact in the file menu that Thunderbird always has a 4 GB limit on mail to be held in a local folder. IMAP account apparently can be greater. POP cannot.

When I start computer a window opens opimize the registry failed

    Hi Harry,.

Looks like you have some program registry installed and programmed to run at startup, which does not work.  I suggest we identify and remove the boot and then remove it totally from the system (uninstall).  Registry modification programs are generally risky, rarely do much good, can cause great harm and are not really necessary as Windows does a good job of managing the registry on its own.

Try a boot minimum http://support.microsoft.com/kb/929135.  If the problem goes away then it's just a matter of tracking down the culprit at the origin of the problem.   Follow the procedures described in the article.  Once found, remove, delete, disable or uninstall.  Once don't forget to reset your operating system to normal status, as described in the procedures. If the problem occurs in clean mode then just restore the system to normal and reboot - this solution will not work.

Start in safe mode with network and see if the problem is here.  A result allows us to narrow down the search for the cause.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • How can I file a formal bug report?

I was playing around with voice commands, and I believe that I tracked down the cause of the inconsistent volume over the guests.  I would like to file and official report if there is a mechanism to do so.  Here are the details:

The voice command prompts appear to follow with the volume during a call more volume of Bluetooth for if the volume is reduced to use the phone as a handset voice commands become inaudible.  It also seems that during voice command resets the bluetooth or the volume during a call 50% without a volume knob is used.

In my view, given the voice command prompts track to each volume is a mistake since it is a constant volume while phone conversations can vary greatly.  Guests must have an independent volume as sort of a "preamp" on volumes of masters.  This approach works perfectly on market Vlingo and choice Dialer applications more.

    Thank you very much.

You just made.  Here are my results when testing of voice control on my phone.  The first time I use it, the volume is usually reduced, and it takes a few seconds for the 'Please wait', "say a command" option above.  The next immediate use, the volume is correct and the delay is no longer there.   -Dan

  • XPS 2720 - how to replace 32 GB SDD with the largest

    Hello

I want to replace the current 32 GB SDD with a 256GB SDD. I don't know how many records the 2720 XPS can hold and what kind.

-Can it accommodate a new SDS plus the drive HARD and SDS that are already there?  Alternatively, if I need to replace the current SDS? If Yes, should it be mSata or the computer can hold the two SATAs?  I'm looking at the Samsung 840 Pro 256.

Ideally: HD 2 TB, 256 GB, 32 GB SDD SDS

Good: 2 TB, 256 GB SDD

Bad: Can't hold an another SATA

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Racarius,

Dell XPS 2720 can be configured with 32 GB, 64 GB or 256 GB mSATA car and 3.5-inch SATA 3.0 HDD capacity of 1 to 4 to.

You can purchase the 256 GB mSATA drive to replace the 32 GB mSATA drive.

I use Windows Media Player to put music on my cell phone, but now I can not remove the music. He repeats to me that I is not able to remove it. Could someone please help me so that I can get the music off my phone?

This can vary greatly depending on the type of phone you have.  If you can let us know, we can help.

But first of all, I would like to try this:

    1. Click on start and open the work «»
    2. If your phone is listed here, double-click on it and see if you can explore the files and delete normally.
    3. If it doesn't work the first time, try to go back to 'Computer' and this time, the phone with the right button and choose "Explorer" instead.  On some phones, it connects to a different method and allows you to use that way.

  • How can I request a specific to a specific text character style?

Long user date Photoshop and Illustrator. New to Indesign.

Fortunately, this is not a matter of knowing how to create fractions. I have already chosen a route for it. I simply apply a character Style who ticked "fractions" of opentype.

Here is an example of the content that I treat:

    ptable.PNG

Above is my table style in Indesign, after pasting in the data me be given data in excel spreadsheets.

How can I quickly apply my style "FRACTIONS of ptable_BODY" to only some texts, such as: "1/2" + 1/4 "+" 1/8 "& preference random arbitrary fractions like" 34/69"?".

GREP can do great things, but it can selectively apply character styles?

    Maybe it's a job for a paragraph style. I'm not sure.  . .

Do it with a GREP search:

    \d/\d

which means: one or more digits, a /, followed by one or more

    figures.

And replace with your chosen tank style.

However, some OpenType fonts will do this automatically if you enable

the option of OpenType fractions. But I see you know who.

  • How can I use the sequence of the string "\u00e5" in myfile.txt converted unic

How can I use the sequence of the string "\u00e5" in myfile.txt converted to unicode in my application?

I have a text file, MyFile.txt, with some sequences represented unicode:
    \u00e5
    \u00e4
    \u00f6
    etc.

This is the file contains unicode, not the character it represents: a, a and o.
I get the sequence of the file and save it to a vector. When I tried to use it on a JButton, I see the "\u00e5" string and not the character that I assumed.

    String s = Character.toString((char) unicodeInInt);

Strictly speaking, if unicodeInInt is a Unicode code point (for example, it can be greater than 0xFFFF) then the correct code would be this:

    String s = new String(Character.toChars(unicodeInInt));

However, since the "\u" notation allows only 4 hexadecimal digits (and need to 0xFFFF code points > Unicode represented by their UTF-16 encoding), the code above is not enough for this particular case.

64 bit OS is required for readers more 2 TB

INTEL RST over the 10.1 version is required for larger than 2 TB drives

    http://knowledge.Seagate.com/articles/en_US/FAQ/218615en

Like other types of software, the Intel RST drivers are updated to keep pace with new technologies. Intel drivers, found in versions of the retail of Windows 7 have a limit of 2.2 TB. Rather than cutting capacity to 2.2 TB, the limitation is expressed like the rest above 2.2 to. In other words, the driver causes the windows operating to see a 3 TB drive 746.52 GiB (or 800 GB).

With OS two 32-bit, the start address of length and partition partition are stored as 32-bit quantities.
Because the block size is 512 bytes, this means that neither the maximum size of a partition
Neither the maximum start address (both in bytes) can be greater than 2 ^ 32 × 512 bytes, or 2 TiB

    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/hardware/gg463525.aspx

The GUID (GPT) Partition Table has been introduced under the initiative of the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). The maximum size of the partition (disc) is a function of the operating system version. The original version of Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP have a limit of 2 TB per physical disk, including all partitions. For Windows Server 2003 SP1, Windows XP x 64 edition and later versions, the maximum raw score of 18 exabytes may be supported. (Windows file systems are currently limited to 256 terabytes each.)

  • Vibration

    Hello

in my iphone 6 vibration never work her make a little noise, but in sittinge is on! ?

    Hello dahyhamed,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple!

Looks like you want to have your iPhone vibrates under notifications.  This vibration can be great to let you know if something is received on the iPhone, especially when you don't want to disturb others by making a sound. I'll be happy to try to help you with this.

The first thing to check is vibrating.  To access it, tap Settings > general > accessibility.  Scroll to the Vibration and make sure it is turned on.  So you want to go to settings > sounds.  Under the section of vibrate, make sure 'Vibrate on the Ring' and 'Vibration on Silent' are also on, then restart the iPhone and the test.

If these settings are enabled and the phone is still not vibrating, then the next step would be to reset all settings.  Before you do this, it is preferable that you have a backup.  Nothing that I will propose should result in no data loss, but it's always a good idea to have a backup.  If you follow this link, you will find instructions on how to make a backup:

The backup of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch

Once you have a backup, then perform the reset all settings.  Reset preference files resets all parameters that may be problems. This step will not delete your contacts, photos or personal information. It deletes all your preferences for Wi - Fi, Bluetooth, do not disturb, Notifications, general, sounds, brightness & wallpaper and privacy and removes your Touch ID & password.

Do you this by clicking on settings > general > reset > reset all settings.

Once you have done this, test the iPhone and see if the vibration works as expected.

    See you soon!

  • Taking good characteristics

Back in the day of 8 IOS and perhaps sooner when you went in your photos and send them by email, you would get a little pop-up that asked if maybe you wanted to reduce the size "small medium large" wanted.  Has been great to have because you have not nessarly is who is great and rejected it by the e-mail system that someone else was using need.  Now in the new equipment, we take pictures in hi-def, and they are HUGH.   If decide to "Share a moment" the snapshot may be 3 or more, of course the show up nicely in the email, but you have no real idea of the size, they really are.  You click on send and off it goes.  Then a little while later, you can get a kick back that tells you the steps could be released, because it was too big.  You look and sure enough it was maybe 15 to 25 MG in size or more.

Of course, you can get some apps that can help you with that, but why would they take away something so useful and easy to use?

They say want great IOS add other items etc, but do something like take away something that makes IOS something really easy to use.

    No sense to me.

Get this back small feature, even if it something you need to work.  I can take great pictures but now cannot share by e-mail and no, I don't like other methods offered to share.

    Thoughts?

  • HP Envy Rove: Boot with MBR instead of EFI without removing the GPT partitions

    Hello

I activated the Legacy Startup Mode in the Configuration of the UEFI and I would how I can give greater priority to the Legacy boot (boot MBR) vs the EFI Boot.

I mean, how do I start using the MBR without destroying GPT partitions or files EFI?

I don't have an option in the BIOS to select the 'priority '.

I have the BIOS with the e.17 Rev.A (latest) firmware

    Thank you.

    Best regards

    Alfredo.

    @afeno

Welcome to the HP Forums, it's a great place to get help, find answers and advice,
Thanks for posting your request, I'll be more than happy to help you

If I understand correctly you want to use the trunk legacy rather than the UEFI boot, before getting into the details, however,

Here is the difference between Boot EFI and start-up of the legacy

This is the process used by the firmware to find the target of starting:

Legacy boot is used by the firmware BIOS boot process.
The firmware keeps a list of installed storage devices can be bootable (Floppy Disk Drives, hard drives, optical drives, tape drives, etc.) and list them in a configurable priority. the POST procedure has finished, the firmware loads the first sector of each target of memory storage and it scans for a valid Master Boot Record (MBR). If a valid MBR is found, the firmware passes execution of code found in the MBR, bootloader that allows the user to select a partition to boot from. If we don't get, it proceeds to the following equipment in the boot order. If no MBR is found at all, the user is presented with the famous "Please insert system disk".

UEFI boot is used by the UEFI firmware boot process.
Firmware maintains a list of volumes of valid boot called EFI Service of Partitions. During the POST firmware procedure UEFI scans all bootable storage devices that are connected to the system for a valid GPT GUID Partition Table (). Unlike a MBR, a GPT does not contain a boot loader. The firmware itself scanning the closure for a score of Service EFI to boot from. If no boot EFI partition is found, the firmware can fall back on the boot of the legacy method. If boot UEFI and legacy boot fail, the famous "Insert system disk" will be presented.

In general, the UEFI boot is more desirable.

And if you want to know how to convert a GPT to MBR or convert MBR to GPT disk: click here (3rd party link - please ignore the ads).

Let me know how that pans,.
I wish you a good day
And do not hesitate to ask questions that this forum has some of the best people in the world, available and ready to help.
