2nd hard drive for HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Notebook - what do I need?

Hi, I have the HP Pavilion dv7t-4000 CTO Select Edition Entertainment Notebook (product # WV703AV). It can accommodate two hard disks but only came with one. What would need to be able to install the second hard drive? I need just a connecting cable or I also need to caddy or kit?

Also, would I get a solid state? My laptop that would support or should I just use regular?

Currently, I am on Windows 7 64-bit. I have a 500 GB hd (which came to be partitioned with hp tools/restoration).

Help with what I would need to a conventional hard drive or ssd would be greatly appreciated. I tried to look through messages of others first, but could not find anything specific to my model. Thanks for your time!

Hello:

The only place I know where you can get a 2nd hard drive kit is that provider.

Your laptop should be able to work with an SSD, but I can't guarantee it.

I don't really see any point in adding an SSD unless you make the main hard drive, and to do this, you must get an SSD of the same size as the original 500 GB hard drive to use the recovery discs to reinstall the operating system.

Most people get smaller SSD and they use the W7 product key to activate a simple installation of W7.

If you can read all 25 characters of your product key for windows 7, you can do your own installation media and allows to install Windows on a smaller than 500 GB SSD.

If you can read the Microsoft windows 7 25-character product key, you can download simple Windows 7 ISO files to burn on a DVD for the version of windows that is installed on your PC, and which is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC case.

Burn the ISO with the option to burn the ISO on your DVD burning program and burn it at the slowest possible speed that will allow your program. This will create a bootable DVD.

Or use the installation of Windows 7 USB/DVD tool to compile the ISO file that you download from Digital River. The link below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB compilation method.

http://download.CNET.com/Windows-7-USB-DVD-download-tool/3000-18513_4-10972600.html

Use 25 characters on the PC product key to activate the installation.

The key will activate a 32 or 64 bit installation.

Then go to the support of the PC and driver page to install the drivers you need.

Link to downloads ISO of W7 is below.

    Hello

Based on the following specifications, there NOT all alternatives for a second HDD segment:

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03969069

Alternatively, you can refer to the following manuals:

    Hello

This is a technical director of the machine so very little information we can find. He uses this means you can use any standard SATA HDD SATA. If you want to buy the original size and the brand, you can order from HP, or any computer store.

My suggestion: a WD SATA II 750 GB at 7200 RPM should work fine.

I want to add a second hard drive for my Pavilion Elite HPE 410f. Recommendations?  Somewhere in the 320 to 500 GB range and I want a quick unit because it will be used for rendering videos.    Thank you for your response.

    Hello

How fast is fast is the real question.

Have you looked at hybrid drives OCZ? Expensive but probably the fastest option.

Seagate also made a hybrid hard drive.  Good price... You will need a 3.5 "to 2.5" support if the player does not support.  If you install the drive in an empty optical Bay then you will need a 5.25 "to 2.5" support.

Your other choice is 7 200 or 10 000 rpm traditional hard drives.

Another option would be to add a PCI sata and two external hard dirves configured in RAID 0.

  • 2nd hard drive install on pavilion dv7-3060us 17.3 inches with Quad core processor

Pavilion dv7-3060us computer has a 2nd hard drive Bay.  On 2 flags of 17.3 inches previous, I installed a 2nd HDD.  This quad core Pavilion is much thinner than the previous pavilions;  the underside of the computer has also a centre piece in the form of "T" in the Panel without screw - is a pop on the access panel or the entire bottom panel needs to be removed through the perimeter screws?  Still trying to find a manual showing this particular case - no luck so far.  The downloaded HP

Manual for the previous dv-7 is for the case of style like unless I missed something.

Install an SSD soon - would like to have all the "stuff" to install a 2nd drive hard if possible.  Anything I should be aware of before perform this procedure?  Don't really want to remove all the merits of the case.

Thanks for any help that can be provided.

    DP - K

I appreciate the help.  The Caddy is the same that I used before (on the 1st dv7) the 2nd dv7 used the direct taking of 90 degrees into the adapter.  I have both of these me more allotted a 500 GB HD.  All I need pickup is the SSD.

The "T" sign on the back of my case has no screws - but I can see the 3 component tabs snap at the top of the "T" through the small crack on the case.  These are shown on the exploded view of repair.  I'm projecting from the 'snap-out' Panel down on the vertical leg of the "T".

    Once again; Thank you

  • Second hard drive for HP pavilion laptop solutionn

    Hello:

I got a Pavilion dv7-4173us laptop in ealy December 2010 a few weeks ago...

I also want to add a 2nd drive hard because I can't use the first hard drive

    for LINUX.

All 4 primary partitions on the first hard disk is already used by HP to the following partition names:

    (C) windows, HP_TOOLS, RECOVERY, SYSTEM.

I don't understand why HP has to exhaust all primary partitions.

    Most manufacturer only use towing.

they could have put their tools and recovery files in a partition or combine withSYSTEM partition

It seems that they do not want to support the Linux community...

If anyone knows what primary partitions can I remove safely from the first hard drive, that would be great.

In any case, the reason why I'm posting this is to ask if you successfully add a 2nd interal hard drive to the computer laptop dv7.

I looked att he manul and it show where I can stable the 2nd hard drive.

    IMPORTANT observation:

However, I notice the connector on the motherboard for the 2nd drive hard is not the same as the

first hard drive. I also noticed there is no need of rails to support the 2nd drive hard because it it ca be mounted with a hard drive are the first screw.

I hope that is not a connector owner.

I would like to know what your HP solution?

I spent about 4 + hours with HP tech and sales and still did not get a response...

Service very poor customer... very bad for business.

Maybe we need to know about... the Linux community bad customer service

  • Adding 3rd hard drive for HP Pavilion Elite m9250f

I have a Pavilion Elite m9250f running Windows Vista Home 64 bit. The computer currently has two 500 GB hard drives for a total capacity of 1 TB. I would like to add a third drive to increase storage capacity.  I have a SATA to 2 to and cables. When I tried to install the new drive above the two existing disks, he did not slide smoothly. When I removed the already highest reader, I could slide the new drive into but the screws are not line up properly with the new drive. This leads me to believe that I can not install a third drive in the Bay. Is this a correct assumption?

I have an available expansion Bay below the optical drive but am not sure that it is usable for a hard drive. If the use of the expansion Bay is possible, do I have to buy a hook or how to mount the drive in this space?

If necessary, I can copy the data from the secondary drive on an external drive and replace it with the new drive. However, I need confirmation that the secondary is the player in the foreground of both in the hard disc enclosure.

    Thank you for your help.

If the task under the existing optical Bay is open, just use an adapter to fill the space and to mount the drive in there.  Make sure of course that there is a power cord and a SATA port.

  • Adding 2nd hard drive for Dell E310

    Hello

I recently made some updates to my E310 and, until I got to the point where I was adding the second hard drive, everything went well.

First of all, nobody in my local computer store knew of the blue Paw was to add 2nd hard drive; They suggested screw. This isn't the first hard drive I have installed, even if it is the first in my Dell. After my third attempt of Googling, I struck gold - a post in the forum explaining that support is needed and a telephone number to order. I am so grateful for this response.

I read in similar positions and before putting the drive in I want to understand what is needed after the physical installation. This player will not hold the OS (XP Media), but held the whole image, music, and various files. Still must the player be partitioned and formatted using disk management I read in another post? I understand that I must go into the Bios to activate the second hard drive, so to speak. Is this similar to enter the CMOS? Would you be able to provide clear instructions?

Is there anything else I should do to get the new HDD to be operational?

Thank you for your time and thanks to the person who posted this phone number.

  • Can't access 2nd HARD drive on the Pavilion p6220nl?

I had installed a second HDD SATA in my Pavilion p6220nl desktop computer by unplugging the DVD/CD player with its SATA data and power cables.  He succeeded and I was using my regular hard drive so my new drive to HARD drive for several weeks.

Once my new SATA cable arrived, I tried to reinstall my DVD/CD player that I had also only 2 SATA power connectors.  Instead I tried to use very low power for the new HARD drive connector.  Result, I can not access my new HARD drive.  I tried back (i.e. unplugged my DVD/CD drive again and using this SATA power connector instead) and it still won't go.

I updated my BIOS and tried everything I can think of, but without success.  If anyone can help?  Is there indeed a Molex Pin 4--> adapter SATA connector?  Could I have ruined my new HARD drive with the two small connector and power cables attached SATA power connector?  Is there a specific SATA ports they need to go in.

    Currently the situation is now:

SATA Slot 0 - drive DVD/CD (data cable connected only)

1 - usual HD SATA connector

SATA connector 2 - new HARD drive

    Slot SATA 3 - empty

    Appreciate any advice or assistance.

    Thank you

    Stephen

As you said, you had it working. Then attached a unknown thread on the disc. Now, reconnect to a wiring known, that worked. Don't know, don't worry. The car was damaged. Sorry!

  • 2nd hard drive for my E521?

I've changed hard drives out before so I think that iam is able to do this swap out.

Will it take any additional wiring to connect the 2nd hard drive?

The drive installed windows and has a few old files...  It will work just like that, or need to be defragmented?

If somone could you tell me what steps to take to change the drive from PC to PC, that would be great.
