2xHDD & HP ENVY 17-j017sg mSATA

Hi @ll,

Today I received my new HP ENVY 17-j017sg / F1Y59EA #ABD.

I like to use mSATA with two hard drives.

Now, I have deployed initially the mSATA (with hard drives), installed to Windows8.1 64 and everything worked well.

But now if I Plug one or two hard drives on my system does not start.

I see all 3 devices in the Bios or driver Sata Intel RST.

I also tried a reinstall of windows (in installer, I see also all 3 devices).

So I installed Windows on the mSATA. But on reboot, I got the screen

"Please install an operating system on your hard drive."

Hard drive (3F0)

I also extend the Bios (now have F.43)

Hey,.

I have an update.

Now my system startup of 'd' (hard drive) and load everything from c: (my mSATA).

It's pretty easy... but with some restrictions

first of all: you cannot use Raid function bios worse cannot load the bootstrapper to a raid (0 or 1). (which was my problem, I haven't gotten to every time 'no bootable file'... * shit *, and with that you can not use your own bootloader such as bootus or bcd...)

Secondly: the mSATA boot takes without efi ~ 15 seconds with efi 8 seconds (no problem)

(without efi)

00 s - PowerUP

03sec - control window

06 sec - window control closed-> window Startuplogo

15 sec - connected

This is my way:

1. bios Settings:

-remove the hard drives and deployed the mSATA, install Win8 on the mSATA (it is now 'C').

-fix the hard disks

the controller parameters should look like this

F9-> boot order change-> boot from the DVD of Win8

Now select "Internal CD/DVD Rom" (not the UEFI)...

Start the repair console.

(format (its easy with diskpart) HARD disk drives

Finally write the bcd for your first HARD drive.

-> (c: is my devcie mSATA, d: is my first HARD drive)

BCDboot c:\windows /s d:

Finaly Windows 8 boot =) * yeeah *.

It is intended to be a cache of acceleration drive. It speeds up boot time and makes the programs open faster. It allows a slow to behave more like an SSD mechanical drive. You can enable the acceleration of the program Intel Rapid Storage. It improve performance even with 16 GB of memory, even if HP will not sell it in this configuration because a 30 gig WSSD is not compatible quick start recovery from hibernation because it is not large enough to hold the entire contents of RAM and other things that the WSSD has hold.

  • HP ENVY 810-445qe: mSATA in HP ENVY 810qe

I just bought a HP ENVY 810-445qe with a 16 GB mSATA drive.  How do I know if it works correctly?  The startup time is somewhat less than a minute.

    Hello

The 16 GB mSATA is a data caching solution and it will be faster compared to using an SSD for the start.

Data caching with the motherboard in your PC could be performed by a service via hardware or software according to the question if this feature is enabled in the BIOS.  Usually the HP in the past has used a software service with W8 for the caching of data.

Try some boots and see if the issue changes.  If this isn't the case, then contact HP support. If you are still not satisfied with the boot time then return and exchange the PC within the 21-day return period.  After 21 days, it becomes a warranty issue.

Your PC has a chipset Z97.  My Z97 PC chipset which is fully configured with several hard drives and SSD boots much faster using an SSD, given all the bells and whistles that are enabled.  However, I can boot from a 7200 HD using Windows 8.1 in about 30 seconds and less than 15 seconds using an SSD.

  • Envy 15-j051sa mSata SSD Cache TS

Envy TS 15-j051sa mSata SSD Cache for the 1 TB 5400 HGST HTS541010A9E680.

The manual States "Support for the SSD drive 24-GB mSATA (not available on computer models equipped with system - 16834 memory or 12288-Mo)". As I have all the conditions, Intel processor, 8 GB of ram, the question is can I just install it and everything works as if by magic?

Or what I need to do anything about it, or to perform any installation? I noticed Intel RST is running and that the system is working normally.

Any help or experience would be helpful (apart from the disk of 1 TB of pit and replace it with a large SSD!).

    Thank you.

OK, for someone else to end up here

    It worked for me:

    • Bought a 24 GB SSD mSata off eBay (very cheap).
    • Make sure that it is the type of partition MBR (I used an external box with Mini PCI-E to SATA 22Pin mSATA).
    • Make sure that the Intel Rapid Start technology is disabled in the Bios. (Appears only if the mSata is installed).
    • Windows 8 (.1) boot in SafeMode (this is where I'm wrong).
    • Run the Intel Rapid Storage Technology-> Performance-> activate acceleration.
    • Reset (it works!)
    • Activate the technology Intel Rapid boot in the BIOS (I don't know if it improves things, seems to work OK without him)

A start power button to start screen for ready office is 17-18 seconds. Note that I have several services running SQL 2008 R2 Server and all the HP utilities installed as new.

  • HP Envy 15-j002eg mSATA SSD update

Hello people I'm planing to buy this beautiful model, it has a nice card but lacks in the part of the HARD drive.
It comes with 12 GB of RAM. Now, I am planning to buy an mSATA SSD of 24 GB or more and put it in the slot mSATA for thing Intel Rapid Storage for max etc. I saw him really increase the speed of the HARD drive performance upward loading times, etc. But I saw somewhere that it cannot work with 12 GB of RAM on this model? Is it true or not? Thanks for helping me!

You don't find it in the BIOS, but if you use Magic Jelly Bean you can extract a validated/activated copy running on the computer. You must never post again. If you install from a Windows OEM 8 DVD the key Code will be just placed in the operating system and magically valid and active automatically. You will also need a USB Intel Rapid Storage driver to power the operating system during installation as storage is defined as a matrix RAID if a normal hard drive and a GSU are both present.

And another thing I am doing is adding an mSata so that I'll have my hard drives SSD available for use. In this case, how can I transfer my OS to SSD partition?

    Hello:

    Data sheet: http://support.hp.com/in-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-Notebook-PC-series/5401187/model/6732613/document/c04031360/

    First, create USB recovery.
    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c03481733

Buy SSD with at least the same capacity (750 GB) from the HARD disk for recovery media to work.

Use recovery media already created to restore factory OS on the SSD after replacement.

Manual - page 45,46 for the replacement procedure:
    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c04091768

Transfer OS to mSATA to make boot drive is a bit complicated and not recommended by HP as the mSATA acts as a cache on the HDD in consumer laptops. Nevertheless, it is a useful sticky in this forum showing some members do with success. You can check:

You can certainly replace the HDD with SATA SSD. See the manual.

It is to introduce a bootloader (a software configuration) on the main disk, which starts the computer, but then passes the finishing of the initialization of the WSSD. Otherwise the WSSD is not and cannot be transformed into a bootable disc. Also if you add a WSSD to a system which has been delivered without one, your comouter will not start.

  • Upgrade HP Pavilion 15 Msata

Hello. I bought a laptop HP pavilion 15 n0004eh in 2013. I would like to know if I can put the MSATA SSD in my notebook, next to the 1 TB HARD drive.

    Specifications: Intel® Core™ i5 4200U, 8 GB memory 1600 Mhz, GeForce GT 740 M, 1 TB HARD drive

    http://support.HP.com/us-en/document/c04042272

    Ty for the answers!

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad. The configuration of the BIOS on that is wide open. You can set the WSSD mSATA as boot drive, such as a disk cache accelerator (using a system of different software that is used on the HPs) or as a storage device. On the HPs not so much. The mSATA slot is limited by the BIOS. It is only designed to be a cache of acceleration. We tried to walk a lot of people through this and universally, they report that if you put a new WSSD own mSATA in the slot where the system didn't have before, you get just a blinking cursor. You can do the mSATA WSSD the OS disc but only if you reload the operating system and implement a configuration of bootloader on the drive. Start starts on this drive and then passes to the WSSD finished to start. It is explained here:

    http://h30434.www3.HP.com/T5/hardware-upgrades-replacements/HP-envy-17-j017sg-mSATA-amp-2xHDD/TD-p/3517215

I had a sticky at the top of this card in the Forum for easy access. As you can see it is complicated, with a lot of configuration of the operating system command line. We did not have too many people try to do.

    1. the question of if we can install a drive 60-120 GB mSATA in mSATA slot and use it as the place of installation of Windows? It would be like having a configuration double hard drive if windows is installed on the mSATA and the 5400 RPM HARD drive is formatted? I know that this could affect the warranty but I'm curious.

    http://Forum.NotebookReview.com/HP-envy-HDX/729085-envy-15T-J000-mSATA-SSD-HDD-fresh-install-mSATA-boot-drive.html

I recommend to remove the hard drive if the how does not say that. MSATA module is compatible, so I do not think that this will affect the warranty.

Q2: Difficult to answer this one, but some guy already confirmed that Samsung PM830 256 GB drives to work with this series. Other models also work, just search this forum...

Q3: The mSATA can be used as cache or a boot disk. If it will be useful to cache it will not work with 12 GB or more according to the manual of the laptop series. If it will be used as boot drive should not be a limitation, so you can use the max 16 GB or so.

Q4: mSATA is a format standard/interface/so any mSATA SSD must correspond to the slot, the capacity is not serious.

Q5: As I said mSATA is an interface (slot), SATA II or III (speed) is a matter of the chip on the motherboard. This is the case even as the typical SATA connection. Connectors and slots are the same, but the speed is founded by the chipset...

I want to improve my HP Pavilion 14-n061tx with a new SSD and more RAM. The problem that I am facing is if the motherboard of my laptop has an mSATA slot or not. I can't find information online about it.

I have another solution to use an adapter to install the player rather than the optical drive, but it will destroy the look of it. An mSATA with Windows on it and the original HDD for data, this is what I want.

I found a free location of MINI_CARD2 on the motherboard (see photo of atteched).

I don't buy or not this SSD.

    Thank you!

    Hi there @iliyas1985,

Welcome to the Forums of HP Support!  I understand that you are looking for help for a potential installation of SSD.   I'm happy to help you with this.

Looking at HP and Compaq Desktop PCs - specifications of the motherboard, IPISB-NK (Lavaca3-SB)for your system, it has the following internal expansion slots:

Two PCI Express mini card Sockets (generation 2 speed)
A PCI Express MXM slot that takes care of a PCI Express x 16 graphics card (generation 2 speed)

So if you find an SSD, which is compatible with those you can try to use it, but it's never a guarantee that both devices will work together.

Please let me know if it works for you and if it does not solve your problem, please mark this message as a solution. Bravo would be appreciated as well.
