3500th and 4400 WLC

I find contradictory documentation; the 3500th is supported on the WLC 4400 w / version 7.x code?

Docs, I found say 3500 is CAPWAP only so that only the 5508 CAPWAP.

Thank you.

Anything over version 5.2 software WLC > CAPWAP

Anything below version 5.2 software WLC > LWAPP

Now go back to 3500th... version minimum necessary to get the 3500 AP with WLC is 7.0 and 7.0 is compatible with the 4400... That is why 3500 is supported on 4400 running the WLC version 7.0 and later...

  • Differences between 2000 WLC and 4400 series

In addition to the number of access points supported, what are the differences in features between the WLC 2000 and 4400 series?

On 2006, you have 4 ports on the back, which can support up to 3 AP directly connected and the port other than your connection to the network and it supports no LAG (aggregation of links). The ports are 10 / 100M, and he cannot be an anchor for a group of mobility.

On the 4400, either you have a 4402 or a 4404, 2 a 2 interfaces concert and the 4404 has 4 Gig interfaces, you cannot directly connect AP to a 4400. The two 4400's support LAG, and they can serve as anchor points in a group of mobility. What are the major differences in them. They set up near the top of the same and interact with the trendy and the same wireless networks.

    Hello

    answer your questions:

1, but I could see a single file over in the cisco site, which is AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-2-205-0-ER.aes (file 4 MB approx.). I put in the root directory of the TFTP?

is it necessary to copy the mentioned so 4 MB file?

the 4 MB file (which has ER), is the file of the boot loader.

It is not necessary to apply it, but it is recommended that you also upgrade to this boot loader after the WLC image upgrade. (as mentioned in the release notes)

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/partner/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn42205D3MR4.html

.Aes ER files are independent of controller software files. You can run any controller software file with any file from ER.aes. However, to install the latest software startup file (4.2.205.0 ER.aes) ensures that changes made to the boot software in all files of the boot software ER.aes past and present are installed.

-Do not install the 4.2.205.0 software controller file and the startup file software at the same time ER.aes 4.2.205.0. Install a single file and restart the controller; install the other file, and then restart the controller.

2 as show images of starting backup as a 4.0.206.0, what will happen to this file, if I'm upgrading to 4.2.205

Is what is in the wlc as a backup image?

Yes, he'll stay there as backup image.if you want to change it, you must interrupt the boot on console (ESC) process, start the secondary image and do the upgrade again to the secondary image.

    3. are there additional things are needed during the upgrade from 4.2.176 to 4.2.205?

no extra steps, don't just make sure you use good TFTP as (TFTPD32)

Here are the release notes for 4.2.205 for your information...

  • General questions about Cluster 4400 WLC

I have inherited some 4402 wireless LAN controllers and I am in charge of making their ship-shape. So I have a few general knowledge wireless, I have not worked with before wireless controllers and have a few issues with that I was wondering if someone could help me:

    (1) how can I check that the primary and secondary controllers are configured for failover without actually performing a test? Both have AP failback enabled, but I don't know what else to check.

    (2) they are running code 3.2.116.21. If I want with 3.2 or plan to move up to 4.X?

Thanks to a bouquet. I'm slowly working my way through the docs and the answers to them would of course speed up things.

    Hi Johnny,.

I hope things are well with you! The steps required to set up relief AP are detailed in the attached doc. I would always try to provide a Maintenance window to test this point, rather than not knowing for sure :)

    Now, for your second question, it is likely that you will want to upgrade the WLC to a version more recent code. They have passed through 4.0.x, 4.1.x and newer 4.2.x. 3.2 is a fair way behind. Take a look at the WLC Release Notes;

  • Routing capabilites of 4400 WLC

Do WLC 4400 has routing capabilities... ??

as I m using WLC 4402 for AP association and management of clients and router that provides the interface of L3 for AP and Client for routing there subnets. It is possible by only using WLC for AP and Client Mgmt and removing the defect of a road?

    Concerning

    Hitesh salvation,

The WLC 4400 is a device that attaches to your network, but does not work as a router. There must be a layer 3 device routes packets between the VLANS. The WLC maps the SSID of the VIRTUAL LAN subnet clients and put their return on the interface of management for upstream routers to route the packets.

  • Failure and 5508 WLC WLC 5508-HA

We are a hospital that uses wireless communication / clinical applications through.

    We have a pair HA (AIR-CT5508-K9 / AIR-CT5508-HA-K9) 7.6.130.0 running.

It seems that it's 7 days something caused the original primary down and restart.  Primary current has been for almost a year and I want to it without rebooting without losing connectivity to APs customers.

Other devices Cisco active / standby, allow you to restart the secondary and then fail to him with no impact on users.

That's what I intend to do:

    (A) primary

Reboot peer   (B) - and wait for the system to return to the top.

    then

redundancy > force-passage to the -force just restarted WLC (B) to become a primary

    then

    Reboot peer  (Primary)

    Thoughts?

    Thanking you in advance.

    Bob

I used this version of the firmware before and in conditions ideal switch to the redundant unit should not have any impact to applications or not real-time.

Make sure that the TAC Gets a copy of the coredump file so that these can determine the real cause of the accident.

  • Problem with NAC and 5508 WLC OOB

I have a wlc 5508 to shared resources to a 6500 switch. Shared resources to the switch on eth0 and eth1 is also the CASE. The CAM is connected to an access port.

The SCS and CAM are on VLANS separated and the CASE has been added to the CAM without problem.

I followed the example of document for OOB WLAN (VLANs and mapping etc.), but I don't get all current identifications. The client is associated and the WLAN interface is the quarantine VLAN but it seems that the client can connect to the network without problem (may web access a server in-house to campus)

The customer indicated in customers wireless on the device of the cam page

If I either CASE interfaces close client connectivity is broken.

Once, randomly the own access connection Page appeared on the client (battery dead and waited for about an hour) but when I rebooted the CASE check it was she never came back.

I do not set up the SSO part, must it be filled or is it a valid test without it so far?

No idea where to start with this problem?

    Thank you

Yes, it looks like that somewhere, your 'placing in quarantine/no authenticated' vlan is filled to the full network, I do not see another explanation.

Try to configure the WLC for a new vlan quarantine which does not exist anywhere.

Then you should not have any access at all to anything whatsoever. Then try to leave this vlan gradually reach the heap and constantly test. You should find the point where the vlan 'flows '.

  • Cisco 4400 WLC - access web GUI remotely

I know how to access the graphical interface from the service port. However, I am not able to access the site of Port 0. IPs have all been set correctly. We have a management VLAN in our company. I have configured the management interface of WLC for an ip address from that subnet. Port 0 is connected to a switch of 3560 G. I put the switch port to a port of access to the management of VLANs and I tried to make the switch as a trunk port, with the vlan native on the vlan management. I'm not able to ping, or access the web GUI remotely through the management VLAN. Is it normal?

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Please try to set 0 as vlan on interface of management on WLC after configuration of vlan native on the switch. If you have not yet tried.

order - management configuration interface vlan 0

Note - You must children all wlan r mapped with management interface before any change in CLI.

hope this will solve your prob.

  • client DHCP issues with 4400 WLC

The ACS authentication works very well.

Clients cannot obtain an IP address from the DHCP server.

DHCP server is configured on a dynamic interface but is on a different subnet located in a branch office. The DHCP scope is running on a switch 4500 in the branch.

It is preferable to have DHCP works on internal WLC or near the WLC, rather than DHCP server at the remote location?

    TIA

Generally, you don't want to have a dhcp server on a remote site, but it should also work as wired users are able to get an IP address from the remote dhcp server. Preferred, as I have said, is to have a local dhcp server, but if this does not work for you, then by configuring the wlc to bbe a dhcp server is not a bad thought either. Some, like to have more control over the dhcp.

  • WLC 4400 not authetnicating between the COMMENTS and private networks

    Hello

I have a problem. I have a 4400 WLC and the meeting I m problem is that when an authetnicates of user to the private network, then tryies to autheticate the guest network, it just stays there, it does nothing. All around, if authenticate you with the network of comments and change the private network, it just sits there. I have showing that the problem is with the authentication, but do not know if I m correct.

Can someone help me? What ifnormation will take to recover from the WLC see there the rub?

I'll get the debug mac addr and repeat the question to see if I get anything for the customer.

    Thanks for the help

    Tony

I would check if his blocking on obtaining IP address or authentication. Probably try to manually set the IP address if you switch between networks and see if works.

  • Encrypted L3 Communications between the TOWER and WLC?

    Hi all

    I work with a client who wants to put the towers away to their WLC (a 4402). The problem is that communications between the TOWER and WLC must be secured, even through their private Wan! I have a few questions that result, if someone is able to help you;

    1. I can't know if and what method of encryption is (is it AES etc.?) used on connections between towers and the WLC and what are the steps?

      1. The terminology can be a problem here, it's not a wireless mesh, just classic LAP for WLC
    2. EXTENSIVE customer network is already encrypted (IPSec VPN via VPLS) in parts - what is the consequence of execution of AP<-->WLC with end to end (if possible) on a network encryption EXTENDED with IPSec, i.e. double encryption?

Strange but true - pointers will be greatly appreciated... Phil.C

With a controller of the 4400 series, the control traffic between the AP and the regulator is already encrypted AES.  The user traffic is not encrypted.  If you use a 5508 controller all traffic between the AP and the controller is encrypted AES.

For what is running the traffic through a VPN, it should work.  The issue I see with this is with the MTU in general.  The controller will drop all packets with a payload of less than 32bytes data.  According to the MTU over the VPN I've seen packets getting fragmented and it is a question.  If you use one of the versions CAPWAP (5.2 or newer) discovery dynamic MTU is part of the Protocol and this MTU problem does not really exist.

  • Adjustment of the regulatory field of wlc and APs

We have 5 APs is currently working on the regulatory field C. We add 5 APs more and a WLC who came in another regulatory area as directed by my boss, he said, it's H.

Will there be problems operating in 2 different areas?

What can I do to make each APs and controller in the same domain?

    Help, please.

    Hello

Refer to this document for more details on the regulatory areas

    http://www.Cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/wireless/access-points/product_data_sheet0900aecd80537b6a.html

What country deploy you this AP, I hope it's in China (according to the doc, above). As long as the country code is set to WLC, you should be fine.

Will there be issues operating in 2 different domains?
If you configure two different country codes belong to two different regulatory domains (like Europe & America), then available channel & power limited to a lower common level. In your case, I don't think that you configure countries in conflict on your WLCs. HTH Rasika * Pls note all useful responses *.
