4400 wlc 4.2.176 to 4.2.205 software upgrade

Hello

I have 4400 wlc and image backup running as 4.0.206.0 and 4.2.176. Because of certain reservations in the current 4.2.176, we expect to update with 4.2.205.

I have here are doubts before moving to upgrdation:

I have it here's the image that has been downloaded from the site of cisco

Air-WLC4400-K9-4-2-205-0.AES (38 MB file approx.)

1, but I could see a single file over in the cisco site, which is AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-2-205-0-ER.aes (file 4 MB approx.). I put in the root directory of the TFTP?

is it necessary to copy the mentioned so 4 MB file?

2 as show images of starting backup as a 4.0.206.0, what will happen to this file, if I'm upgrading to 4.2.205

Is what is in the wlc as a backup image?

3. are there additional things are needed during the upgrade from 4.2.176 to 4.2.205?

Please suggest me before moving on the same...

It would be appreciated.

Hello

answer your questions:

1, but I could see a single file over in the cisco site, which is AIR-WLC4400-K9-4-2-205-0-ER.aes (file 4 MB approx.). I put in the root directory of the TFTP?

is it necessary to copy the mentioned so 4 MB file?

the 4 MB file (which has ER), is the file of the boot loader.

It is not necessary to apply it, but it is recommended that you also upgrade to this boot loader after the WLC image upgrade. (as mentioned in the release notes)

http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/partner/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn42205D3MR4.html

.Aes ER files are independent of controller software files. You can run any controller software file with any file from ER.aes. However, to install the latest software startup file (4.2.205.0 ER.aes) ensures that changes made to the boot software in all files of the boot software ER.aes past and present are installed.

-Do not install the 4.2.205.0 software controller file and the startup file software at the same time ER.aes 4.2.205.0. Install a single file and restart the controller; install the other file, and then restart the controller.

2 as show images of starting backup as a 4.0.206.0, what will happen to this file, if I'm upgrading to 4.2.205

Is what is in the wlc as a backup image?

Yes, he'll stay there as backup image.if you want to change it, you must interrupt the boot on console (ESC) process, start the secondary image and do the upgrade again to the secondary image.

3. are there additional things are needed during the upgrade from 4.2.176 to 4.2.205?

no extra steps, don't just make sure you use good TFTP as (TFTPD32)

Here are the release notes for 4.2.205 for your information...

  • General questions about Cluster 4400 WLC

I have inherited some 4402 wireless LAN controllers and I am in charge of making their ship-shape. So I have a few general knowledge wireless, I have not worked with before wireless controllers and have a few issues with that I was wondering if someone could help me:

    (1) how can I check that the primary and secondary controllers are configured for failover without actually performing a test? Both have AP failback enabled, but I don't know what else to check.

    (2) they are running code 3.2.116.21. If I want with 3.2 or plan to move up to 4.X?

Thanks to a bouquet. I'm slowly working my way through the docs and the answers to them would of course speed up things.

    Hi Johnny,.

I hope things are well with you! The steps required to set up relief AP are detailed in the attached doc. I would always try to provide a Maintenance window to test this point, rather than not knowing for sure :)

    Now, for your second question, it is likely that you will want to upgrade the WLC to a version more recent code. They have passed through 4.0.x, 4.1.x and newer 4.2.x. 3.2 is a fair way behind. Take a look at the WLC Release Notes;

  • Routing capabilites of 4400 WLC

Do WLC 4400 has routing capabilities... ??

as I m using WLC 4402 for AP association and management of clients and router that provides the interface of L3 for AP and Client for routing there subnets. It is possible by only using WLC for AP and Client Mgmt and removing the defect of a road?

    Concerning

    Hitesh salvation,

The WLC 4400 is a device that attaches to your network, but does not work as a router. There must be a layer 3 device routes packets between the VLANS. The WLC maps the SSID of the VIRTUAL LAN subnet clients and put their return on the interface of management for upstream routers to route the packets.

  • client DHCP issues with 4400 WLC

The ACS authentication works very well.

Clients cannot obtain an IP address from the DHCP server.

DHCP server is configured on a dynamic interface but is on a different subnet located in a branch office. The DHCP scope is running on a switch 4500 in the branch.

It is preferable to have DHCP works on internal WLC or near the WLC, rather than DHCP server at the remote location?

    TIA

Generally, you don't want to have a dhcp server on a remote site, but it should also work as wired users are able to get an IP address from the remote dhcp server. Preferred, as I have said, is to have a local dhcp server, but if this does not work for you, then by configuring the wlc to bbe a dhcp server is not a bad thought either. Some, like to have more control over the dhcp.

  • Cisco 4400 WLC - access web GUI remotely

I know how to access the graphical interface from the service port. However, I am not able to access the site of Port 0. IPs have all been set correctly. We have a management VLAN in our company. I have configured the management interface of WLC for an ip address from that subnet. Port 0 is connected to a switch of 3560 G. I put the switch port to a port of access to the management of VLANs and I tried to make the switch as a trunk port, with the vlan native on the vlan management. I'm not able to ping, or access the web GUI remotely through the management VLAN. Is it normal?

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

Please try to set 0 as vlan on interface of management on WLC after configuration of vlan native on the switch. If you have not yet tried.

order - management configuration interface vlan 0

Note - You must children all wlan r mapped with management interface before any change in CLI.

hope this will solve your prob.

I would check if his blocking on obtaining IP address or authentication. Probably try to manually set the IP address if you switch between networks and see if works.

  • WLC 520

    Hello

I've updated AP 1131AG-E-K9 Cisco to LWAPP image. The AP received ip from the DHCP server and broadcasts the discovery LWAPP packets but my Wireless Lan Controller seems to being scrapped. I get:

    Sep 25 15:08:41.340 spam_lrad.c:1286 LWAPP-0-MSGTAG095: throw Discovery Request Packet to AP 00: 1 d: a1:ec:65:98

    the newspaper messege.

    Thank you

    Hi Murat,

Unfortunately, the WLC 526 only supports the 521 LAP. No other models of AP (like the 1131) cannot be used in this solution. And vice versa the 521 will not work with other models like the 4400 WLC.

    Q. what access point products are included in the Cisco Mobility Express Solution?

    A. two Cisco 500 Series Wireless Express Access Point products are in the Cisco Mobility Express Solution; their part numbers follow:

    • AIR-AP521G-x-K9 (autonomous access point)

    • AIR-LAP521G-x-K9 (access point on controller)

The material for these products is the same. The products have different software, but the access points can be converted from stand-alone mode to the mode on the controller with a simple software upgrade.

  • Problem with WLC and a 3rd-party NMS SNMP AP Assoc/cancellation interruption

    Hello

I'm troubleshooting an issue, why our NMS is not able to automatically clear an alarm generated trap of an AP that has been separated and is associated with again.

When debugging on the WLC snmp trap generation, I discovered that when the AP disassociates the WLC sends the trap of bsnAPDisassociated , which is perfectly defined and I can also find in the SNMP Object Navigator. However when the AP reassociates again the WLC sends the ciscoLwappApAssociatedtrap.

Part 3 NMS is not able to understand it, but our WCS system does, that's why I then took a peek in the MIB file installed.

I discovered that ciscoLwappApAssociated is a sheet of ciscoLwappApMIBNotifs (1.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.513.0. 4), which I have neither

Cannot be found in the Cisco SNMP Object Navigator or the downloadable MIB.

As the MIB in the WCS is a XML file I didn't how to get information in the 3rd-party NMS.

Anyone have any idea on how to solve this problem or there at - it update CISCO-LWAPP-AP-MIB available somewhere?

Our WLCs are running the latest version of the software (7.0.116.0) as well as our WCS (7.0.172.0)

    Thanks in advance!

    Kind regards

    Patrick

Such discrepancies sometimes occur. Best is a matter of TAC in order to tackle the problem through a bug or have a new MIB published on cisco.com if necessary

  • Cisco 526 Wireless Express Mobility Controller

We just bought to UC520, 526 and a LAP521 controller. We got the UC520 upward and running in 15 minutes, but the 526 does not include a lot of documentation. Can not have find the 521 AP on the network nor will it set the layer mode 2. I don't want to configure routing for a 4 Office of PC couche3. During installation, the only option it gives is layer 3 and the documentation says it will make layer 2? Can someone give me any assistance?

First of all, set up like you would a 4400 WLC or 2106. I will attach the link configuration guide here for you.

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/controller/4.1/Configuration/Guide/ccfig41.html

Many of the advanced features are disabled on the 526 but you set up substantially the same.

  • WCS 4.2 - customer account

    Hi all

The deployment currently LWAPP project consists of 240 APs. I have 4 unit of 4400 wlc and managed through wcs 4.2.

The problem is, I can't get the number of customer goes to the Toilet. Even when there is connected clients the Dungeon page and graph showing the number 0.

I can see the good count via WLC customer individual web Mgmt. It is quite disappointing.

Any who have addressed this problem before?

    Very grateful for the help!

I've seen this when the code of the controller version was to 4.1.x and WCS was running version 4.2.

Once we upgraded wireless controllers, the number of customer was right.

  • LAP1131 can not join WLC4400

    Hello world

I am trying to deploy a 4400 WLC with several LAP1131, but I have problems: the APs cannot reach the controller.

Before you begin this conversation, I read the documentation, the option DHCP set 60 and 43 with the appropriate values, verified that I ping the WLC of AP, manually set the LWAPP... but there is no way. The error message is:

    LWAPP_CLIENT_EVENT: spamResolveStaticGateway - bridge found

    Sent Msg Type: DISCOVERY_REQUEST

    MSG length: 21

    MSG SeqNum: 0

LWAPP_CLIENT_EVENT: spamHandleDiscoveryTimer: could not find any MWAR

Reading the forums, it seems that "could not discover MWAR" means that the AP cannot reach the regulator but, what can I do else?

    WLC4400 version: 4-1-185

    LAP1131 version: c1130-rcvk9w8-mx 12.3 (11) JX1

    Any help?

    Dani

    Hi Dani,

    Just a note to explain this behavior;

    Q. my 1131 lightweight access point (LAP) does not record with my controller 4402 LAN wireless (WLC). What can be the reason for this?

    A. a common reason is that the Mode of Transport Lightweight Access Point Protocol (LWAPP) is configured on the WLC. A WLC 4402 can operate in mode of layer 2 and layer 3 LWAPP. Whereas, in a TOUR of 1131 can operate only in layer 3 mode. Mode Layer 2 is not supported on the KNEES of 1131. If the WLC is configured with the Mode of Transport LWAPP layer 2, then your KNEES not to join the WLC. In order to overcome this problem, change the Mode of Transport of the WLC of layer 2 layer 3 LWAPP.

In order to change the Transport LWAPP Mode using the user interface, go to the WLC page and locate the second selection in the main field, which is the LWAPP Mode of Transport. Change this layer 3 and restart the controller. Now, your TURN is able to register with the controller.
