4090xcdt OS Win 98 Update--> Win 2000

Dear all,

I'm considering upgrading the OS on my computer portable satellite 4090xcdt I want to make it wireless and impossible to get a PCMCIA wireless card that supports win98, they seem to all start itself.

The PC was bought 2nd hand with plain vanilla 98 preinstalled with not 98 o.s. or recovery discs.

Do I do before / be willing to do after to ensure a smooth 2000 installation?
In particular should all new drivers and if so where can I find em?
I'll back up my data, of course!

Kind regards
Colin Smith

Hello Colin

Well. This unit is an oldie. As far as I know that it s about 6 years.
I think first of all, you must spend your BIOS. As far as I know the latest BIOS is
16.05.02 V. 8.20. Also I found the drivers for Windows 95/98/98SE/NT/2000. After the installation of the OS, you must install all of the necessary Toshiba drivers.

So, what do I have to Flash the BIOS with the latest version, or is it possible that I can work around that? I've done a few things with PC (built some etc etc) BUT I have never tried flashing the BIOS before and I heard that it can go very wrong! Any suggestion would be appreciated!

This is the zip file, and there is also a text document that contains the BIOS update procedure. Follow this description, and you can do it with success.

    Hello

Only drivers for Windows ME OS page the European driver of Toshiba.

But I also searched the site of Toshiba Canada compatible drivers of W2k and found some compatible drivers:

    Please take a look here;

In addition you could install a diagnostic equipment such as Everest home edition application and could install the necessary drivers from chip manufacturing sites

  • Is an upgrade to Win98 or Win 2000 on Satellite 315 possible?

My 315 satellite was delivered with Win 95. I would like to Win 98 or even Win 2000. Will they, they run on 315? If Yes, where can I get drivers for 315? They seem not to be available in the archive of the Toshiba driver. G.R. [email protected]

    Hello

I checked the European pilot site and since the Satellite 315 is probably identical to the satellite 310 series, you should be able to install win98/2000.

There are drivers for Win95/98/NT (Windows 2000 architecture is like NT drivers * should * work, but without guarantee!).

The other thing is: you have to keep in mind that performance under Win2K wouldn be very good, so it would be better to throw Win98 on the machine.

Sorry, after more research, you will need to upgrade your OPERATING SYSTEM to Windows XP, 7 or 8 (prefer Windows 7).

There is no driver that will support Windows 2000.

    Hello

Win 2000 has no internal support for the wireless.

In order to launch the wireless, you must use a wireless card that provides you with Wireless Manager and drivers for the card on Win 2000.

Once you have installed the drivers and the utility is launched, you should power set up the connection to the router wireless.

Start first with the security of the router, enable WEP, once you know that you can log in and access the Internet.

    Hi charliep78,

Step 1: If you intend to remove Windows 2000 boot sequence entry, try the following steps:
    a. start your computer and start Windows XP.
    (b) see How to remove a second installation of an operating system of Windows on a partition
    c. remove the entry referring to the edition of Windows 2000.
    d. restart the computer and check the result.

Step 2: To remove Windows 2000 edition permanently. You need to format the drive/partition where Windows 2000 edition is installed. To do this, try the following steps:
    a. start your computer and start Windows XP.
    b. Click Start, click my computer.
    c. right click on the partition where Windows 2000 edition is installed, click Format, click on full and then click Start.
    d. when the formatting process is complete, click OK to close the dialog box.
    e. restart the computer.

Important: Formatting the drive will permanently delete the data on the disc. We recommend that you back up the data before formatting the disk/partition.

  • Update from 4.1.3/Win 2000?

I have an old (real old) application that runs under Windows 2000. I had been functioning satisfactorily under Fusion 4.1.3 he didn't need, and now I need yet :-(

I understand that Fusion 7 is an upgrade too far and I have to do a fresh install. My question is: the files that have been stored on the virtual machine will automatically or is there something special, I have to do to import them? Are there other issues should I be aware of?

    Hello

Welcome to the VMware communities forum.

Basically he has to "just come."

However good practices is to have your VM stops before running the upgrade.

It is also a good idea to make a good copy of your virtual machine before you experiment with it.

Oh... and use Fusion 7.1.1 and not merger 7.1.2 because there a problem with the OS vmware tools as soon as Windows XP SP3 (which I hope it will be fixed again in Fusion 7.1.3)
