A defective disk cloning

I have a disc that will not go up. If I have clone with a software that can be read and can clone it may ruin a second drive that maybe isn't able to mount too?

THX

Hi corinne

More information would be useful.

It is an external drive, I guess. USB/crush?

How it is formatted? OS X journaled? Master Boot Record? NTFS?

What happens when you plug it in? Disk utility launch and say "this disc is unrecognizable...?

How do you intend to "Clone It? Is that in a Bay 2 dock with clone capabilities?

Other computers recognize the drive?

Once we know more, then we can go from there

Hope this helps, Greg

  • Windows 7 does not start after the C disk cloning

    I got a new SSD and hope to clone my drive C for the SSD, then start with the SSD. I cloned the C drive using the software that came with my SSD (NTI Echo iirc). Cloning is completed and the system stops. I started the PC and went to the start menu to change the boot for the SSD device. It wouldn't start up, gives me the following error: "cannot start Windows. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. "Then it tells me to insert the Windows installation disc (that I have not since he's back in the States and I currently live in the Japan) to fix the computer. Boot from my original HDD with SSD unplugged gives me the status code "0xc000000e." Boot from the SSD with the original HHD unplugged gives me the status code "0xc0000225." Info for both was, "the boot selection failed because a required device is not accessible."

    I made a recovery disk using my laptop (which I am currently working on) and started via CD/DVD. The System Recovery Options appears and Windows 7 appears on the list, but the size of the partition is 0 and the location says '(unknown) '. I can't click Next or whatever it is because it's just loading all the time.

    I tried to go into the system recovery on the first screen (where you enter in the start menu, etc.) and by pressing F11 (System Recovery) doesn't do anything.

    My PC is a HP a6614f. I've updated the PSU with a 500W modular one and put in a dedicated GPU. Everything worked fine until I cloned the drive C on the SSD and now no player starts. The primary HHD is partitioned into two with Windows and programs installed on the C drive (personal files are on drive D partition). Drive C was 103 GB and my SSD has 119 GB of free space so I don't think it should be a matter of space.

    I am at the end of my tether here since I don't know why the hell my C drive cloning should affect the original drive. At least, I should be able to boot off the original drive, otherwise the SSD. really need my PC to work (with or without the SSD) so any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

    Has managed to solve my problem. All I needed was a Windows 7 installation disc for 'repair my computer.' I managed to download (legally) of Digital River and after that he did his thing, I was able to start my new SSD. Whoo Hoo!

  • Ultimate Vista x 64 defective disk

    Vista ultimate x 64 disc that I began to separate between the top and the bottom of the layers of plastic around the inner ring. I rarely used the system repair disc (maybe once or twice in the lifetime of the disc). I am extremely careful with my records, in handling and storage. There has never been a problem with all the other drives I've owned or used from any manufacturer, and I am sure that it is the result of a bad seal in the disc manufacturing process. The layers of the disc should not be separate, and I fear that if the disk is necessary once again he may not make it through the next use. As Vista Ultimate was the retail cost of $399 at the time I bought it, the idea of spending more for a copy of the non-defective replace it seems an exorbitant expense given the number of times this record has been used. Is it possible to get a CD-ROM of replacement due to faulty craftsmanship of the original? An Exchange would also perfectly fine with me...

  • Defective disk performance

    Hi all

    We have the following situation; a VMware ESXi server was a virtual machine installed with CentOS/RHEL.

    For security reasons that this virtual machine should be reinstalled, however, we chose to perform a side by side easy migration of data installation.

    After that the establishment of the new virtual machine performance of the disc was bad, the new virtual machine has another version of CentOS (5.4 instead of 5.3 compared to the old VM).

    I thought it was because of the interaction between two virtual machines, disk after the first, the problem is the deletion occurs.

    So I thought; Maybe it's a disk problem, so today, I replaced the drive in order to get a fast machine again.

    Due to the replacement of the drive, I had to reinstall ESXi and virtual machine.

    Has done this, but the diskperformance is still so bad.

    Is there something I'm monitoring here?

    The material is defective? (it's a DELL PowerEdge R200, with single drive, no RAID).

    Any idea, because I'm going out now

    GR, Mike

    I think that this isn't a bad result, it depends on you, disks,

    for example, my VM with CentOS 5.4 on HP BL460c G1 with RAID1 on 146 GB SAS drives:

    # hdparm-t/dev/sda

    / dev/sda:

    Calendar of the disc in the buffer reads: 106 MB in 3.02 seconds = 35.05 MB / sec

    Virtual MACHINE runs on no ESXi 4 update

  • Defective disk sector causes Illustrator down

    Recently, I had a bad sector on my hard drive. I am running Illustrator CS on a XP. After running disk check everything seemed to be back to normal, until I ran Illustrator. Initially failed to load on the same policy, but now it seems to be random. I tried to unload it, but Illustrator does not appear in the Uninstall list.

    As a last resort, I tried to recharge on the current copy, but when I got on the screen of both the accept/decline buttons sat on the text and do not work.

    Yes, this version of Illustartor is a moldy oldie, but that's all I can afford right now. The work that is delayed because of this problem is supposed to help me buy the upgrade (and perhaps a new computer).

    I sent a note to support at the beginning of this past week, but I have not heard back. I need this to be solved so I can finish this work.

    Recently, I had a bad sector on my hard drive. I am running Illustrator CS on a XP. After Check Disk running everything seems to be back to normal

    Having a bad sector on your hard disk, and then to have these bad sectors 'repaired' (which means either mapped exclusion or fragments of files "reconecting") does not mean that data from corrupted in these areas are more corrupt. In other words, a disk utility may not fix the code of a program that is damaged due to a disk failure. Of the disk failure can be corrected (or effectively hidden), but disk utility can't re - install Illustrator for you. If the utility can tell you that 'all is well' but it just means that all the sectors currently used are good, and the fragments of files they contain are mapped to each other in the correct order. This does not mean that data that is located on these sectors does not appear.

    Looks like you need to reinstall Illustrator, but now keeps the previous installation. A complete reformat of the drive may be in order. I don't know of anyway to correct with reliability the confusion resulting in the Windows registry becomes blurred.

  • Z210: Z210: RAID 1: failure of a disk. How to replace?

    Hello

    I got in trouble with an Z210 workstation. Initially, it was not possible to start, and the status of the RAID 1 was down. Without the ability to boot. A single disk (disk 1) was knocked out. The other (disk 0) was OK (menbre disc).

    I tried to replace the defective disk (with exactly the same kind of drive) without success.  I want to say, the RAID controller detected a new disc and wonder for the reconstruction. The status was 'rebuild' and asked me to start windows.

    After starting windows and after restarting the onther. I had the following status: disc 1 OK, disc 0 KB. No possibility to start.

    Finally is there a procedure given safely replace a disk in this case? Where can I find documentation on how to rebuild a disk?

    Thank you.

  • HP all in one 21 - 2035 t: installation of recovery disk when replacing failed hard drive with small HD

    I have a 1 TB HD failure I want to replace it with a 250-500 GB HD SSD. Do I need a HD 1 TB replacement using the recovery disk? The only programs/applications are MS Office software and printer, so I know that there is enough space.

    Thank you, Paul.

    The system would expect the 1 TB drive.  If the defective disk can last another cycle, you can use the migration software in the smallest drive. Just read the procedure to reduce the original smaller size.

  • Replacement 250 GB C: drive in Dell Optiplex GX 620 with WD 750 GB SATA drive by cloning. BIOS sees the drive, Windows XP does not work.

    I have 5 Dell Optiplex GX 620 desktop computers.  All are about 5 years old.  Had a hard drive failure so I replace the disks C: by secondary SATA disk cloning, disk 1 in the bios.  BIOS sees drive when Windows XP on two systems and not on the other three.  Have no idea why.  All rooms have all the updates of Windows and Dell. A bought WD Caviar Green drives.  WD has replaced three with Caviar Black readers and still does not work.

    Level 2 support WD had response which was to creat Acronis True Image WD Edition BACK boot CD for the windows version of the software, (that I downloaded on www.wdc.com), boot to a CD and had the disc I cloned then.  I wish only the support level 1 guy was aware of this utility.

  • I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp.

    I would like to replace my drive 160gig hard with the disk hard 320gig on my laptop running xp. Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?  I would that all is the same except the size of your hard drive will be increased.

    Is it possible to transfer the exact content from one disk to another without having to re - install operating systems and programs etc. ?

    Yes.

    You use the disk cloning software.  In some cases, a new player may even be bundled with software that will do this for you.

    Unless your laptop has a second drive Bay (most don't), you will also need an external hard drive enclosure.  As a general rule, these connect via the USB port, although if your laptop has a connector FireWire or eSATA you can also use these interfaces.

    You must select your external enclosure based on 3 criteria: the type of connection to the laptop. the physical size of the disc (2 1/2 inches for computer laptop drives); and player interface (determined by the connection of the internal drive of your laptop). For example only (no recommendation), if you wanted an enclosure for a 2.5 IDE drive "which connects using USB 2.0, Newegg has 17 products

    The (slightly) more expensive items among the software, you will need.  For example: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817155602 this particular House will work with SATA or IDE drives.

    If you buy an external enclosure that doesn't include cloning software, the software may be available for free from the manufacturer of the new 320 GB drive (e.g., http://support.wdc.com/product/downloaddetail.asp?swid=119) or you can get it separately (this is not an exhaustive list):

  • Ctrl + Alt + Delete disk error to restart?

    My Lenovo Y530 acted weird enough for about a week after it defrag with defraggler. Gel constantly and trolling. I had to shut down by pressing the button several times. Whereas yesterday it crashed and I fixed in safe mode after you run disk checks. Today, after it in hibernation for a night, it now reads «Disk-read error Ctrl + alt + delete to restart» There's nothing else with this message. Start the computer as usual with the sign of lenovo, but after that, it goes to the error. Lenovo, the purchase of the computer also doesn't give me a disk to restore the system, or any disk. The only program that could I suppose is one key recovery. Even then, I hesitate to use it after you have used in the past. He erases my HDD and resets its original configuration. Thanks for the help!

    Hi anonymous,

    The error message may be due to one of the following reasons.

    ·         You may have a corrupt MBR (master boot record)

    ·         Your hard drive may have a bad sector

    ·         Defective disk

    To fix this, we would require the Windows vista installation disc.

    I suggest that arrange you for a Windows vista installation disc and try the steps mentioned below.

    Method 1

    Run the tool on the computer system restart and check if it works.

    What are the system recovery options in Windows Vista?

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/what-are-the-system-recovery-options-in-Windows-Vista

    Method 2

    Run the Bootrec.exe tool.

    To run this tool, start the Windows RE and run the FixMbr command.

    How to use the Bootrec.exe tool in the Windows recovery environment to troubleshoot and repair startup issues in Windows

  • Adding new disk unassigned

    Hello

    We changed a defective disk (has no data on the subject) in the slot 9 of our MD3000i with a new drive, when I'm in MD Manager said table optimal. When I go to the hardware component - physical disks , I can see all readers said affected, but the Player 9 says unallocated. We have 2 new drives in the unit and I want to create a new disk group and a new virtual disk from these 2 players more reader 9 so when I go to create a new disk group it I can see Unassigned disc 9 and the other 2 discs.

    quesiton:

    Why Player 9 say no affected? can I go ahead and create my discs with Player 9 group and the other 2 drives?

    Thank you

    Hello mrshahin,

    Yes that's correct.  When you create the new disk groups it only will allow you to do with disks that are not assigned to another group of disks.  For 7, 8, & 9 are showing as unused, so you can use them to make a new disk group.

    Mike Anderson

    You are the very welcome.

    Yes, you can do it but you must have a qualifying operating system installed on the hard drive to upgrade.

    W8 upgrade will not install on a hard drive without an operating system on it.

  • Windows 7 disc to a newer hard drive cloning lose my activation?

    Hello

    I recently bought a new hard drive to upgrade my drive hard aging / slow / small running windows 7.

    I am considering the current installation using clonezilla newest hard disk cloning.

    After reading the FaQ of Activation of windows 7, it states that I'll lose activation with a change in hardware (motherboard) or if I change the hard disk and memory at the same time. I could be wrong, but I guess that if I just upgrade the HDD, I will be not necessary to reactivate windows 7. No other hardware changes apply except the hard drive.

    The question is, if I clone my partition to install windows on the most recent hard drive with clonezilla, I lose my activation? Are there other methods recommended to do?

    Thank you

    I doubt that you will find it, I don't think that it's been published, and if that were the case, she would probably quickly be taken. I don't think they want to know exactly what triggers it or how much time between activations rings the bells!

    There are many threads here with this info, and it's easy to find elsewhere. So, on pain of having that message changed:

    Every piece of hardware is a point number - if you change too many and exceed a certain amount of points, you will need to reactivate Windows. Don't know the exact number until he'll force the reactivation, but usually replace only part (other then the motherboard) doesn't require reactivation.  Information of product key, in the form of the product ID, is sent with a hash value 'material' (a non-unique number generated hardware configuration of the PC) to the Microsoft activation system during activation.

    Windows product activation checks eight different categories of equipment:

    * Processor & serial number
    * IDE adapter
    * VSN and hard drive
    * Amount of RAM range
    * Graphics card
    * Optical drive
    * SCSI adapter
    * Network adapter

    This is related to the issue:

    Product activation prevents users to change or upgrade their hardware.
    Not true at all. Users can change or upgrade their hardware. One of the forms of piracy which warns against product Activation is hard disk imaging. Not all forms of hard disk imaging are illegal. Where a pirate copy data from one PC hard drive to another to illegally run the software on two computers, Product Activation, which stops by forcing the copied software is reactivated. It does so by comparing the hardware on which it has been enabled for the hardware on which it is now initializing. If the material is significantly different, then reactivation is required. If it's the same, or similar, then the software will continue to work. Those who their PC hardware upgrade substantially may be asked to reactivate. For this reason is easy and can be completed by contacting Microsoft to obtain another confirmation ID.

  • XPS9100 disk RAID failure

    One of the drives of 500 GB SATA 150 7200 RPM RAID is dead.   When starting, I get a message "ARRAY0" degraded and takes forever to start up.   Using the configuration of F2 at startup option SATA2 is not detected and SATA3 shows a hard drive.   I guess that SATA2 is the defective drive and HDD1 in the chassis.   What is the procedure to replace the drive with a new drive?

    What type of RAID?  If you have a table striped, RAID 0, you must save any data you want to stay on an external, remove the RAID (assuming you want to keep the player which is ok), replace the defective disk, create a new RAID 0 and perform a manual of your operating system and all applications that you want to use.

    If the RAID is RAID 1, a mirror, you can recover by replacing the disc which is a failure and the RAID ROM will rebuild the table using the right disk.
