A new Mac better W7

First of all, I'm not a geek so please answer in the simplest language possible and assumed that I know nothing. Thank you.

I use a 24 "iMac with 2.8 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo and maxed out at 4 GB Ram Mac OS x 10.6.7. I looked ay my monitor activity and when VMWare Fusion 3.1.2 running W7 and Quicken Home and Business 2010, I see too little as 35 MB RAM fresh. Does this sound right? On the side of Mac I have Mail, Safari, a weather program, Mobile Me automatically synchronize and backup of my time Machine. Here are the apps that run in normal time and not always together.

Most of the time, when I use VMWare, the icon in my dock spends a lot of time with the clock that and round and I see the symbol of Mac I call spinning pizza arise. When I try to force quit, I see not reponding to VMWare, but wait quite a long time, and finally, he interrupts or restarts.

Issues related to the:

(Caveat: I don't download a lot of videos, to work with a lot of graphics or music.) "I'm just an old geezer who uses the Net, turning under W7 and Snow Leopard 10.6.7 Quicken and could do some HTML editing now and then on side Windows because that's where I learned to make a web page.)

With my Mac presents, I also asked a lot of VMWare?

Is there a routine that I can use to mitigate this agonizing slowness or reaction to commands?

If I get a new Mac is there than an iMac 21.5 "offered that has processors more Rapids that will be beneficial for me.

Should I maximum 16 GB RAM in the new Mac to ensure the speed and a good performance?

Can anyone recommend exactly what iMac I should get (Lion impatient) after seeing my use?

Thanks a lot for trying to interpret these issues.

Bob

To begin with, I would say that the best way to restart your mac before taking action. If you read the Apple article, he should have explained that the memory types reported on the activity monitor and it says that the page breaks are when the operating system must write RAM hard disk. The reason for this is that because one or more of your tasks running request more memory than is actually available for the operating system is accommodating moving pieces slowed down older code and memory on your hard drive, thus making space for RAM your app. Mean Go 13.97 from page breaks it is since you last started your mac, he had to write a total of 13,97 GB of RAM (memory) on hard disk (swap). This means that applications running on it are passed, since the last start of your mac more than 4 GB per 13,97 GB (added upward over time). So, my recommendation is to restart your mac and after you login, start the activity monitor (keeping it sorted by real memory) and one by one load your applications and see where the page-outs start to happen and keep track of this process were on top before and after each application that you are running is.

You vm doesn't use too much memory, but combined with her as well as other applications that you are running can make your hungry computer memory. Once you have all your page-out running applications will tell you how much your short on memory (if you are, that is).

Also remember that when loading/suspension/stop a virtual machine, this is disk intensive operations. So for example, if your mac is backup (synchronization of time machine) the same time you are launching or recovery of a virtual machine its will take longer time to complete, because both of these operations are producing on a single disc and he doesn't have a head that goes with fury back to satisfy the two processes running.

I hope that helps.

Can someone give me instructions step by step to clone my old mac to my new mac so it automatically recognizes all the devices (printer, Time Capsule, NAS, etc.) that made my old mac. In other words, I want my new Mac to work exactly like my old - except, of course that the new will be better and faster.

    Thank you.

the best way to approach the connection with 3 devices, is using the drivers for your new OS machines by developers. both systems can have differences between them and simply force the old system to the new system settings is a guarantee that they will work as you would like that.

Migration/time Machine Assistant can work for some of this, but if if fails, you will need to get the correct software for your new OS systems.

  • old mac can not find the new mac for migration

I'm trying to set up my iMac brand new El Capitan and any transfer of my old iMac OS x 10.6.8. The new Mac is former easily, by using Migration Research Assistant on two computers, but the old guard. Then another told me that the former, whom he knows, the name is not available. I use WiFi, lack of time, lightning or FireWire (?) whatever they may be. I could loose the ethernet to our wifi modem, if that works better, I have a Gdrive mini backup and which might be easier still.

There is another identical question, starting in 2014, on the forums, but the answer is not relevant - I do not have a screen asking you to transfer when I started up the new iMac. (I also managed to get a screen insist on a Keychain password and it would not accept the password I put in place initially at first startup.) What is going on? I've never struggled with any one of our Macs back to 83 like this!)

Now I would like to transfer all my stuff from my old book of mac pro, the easiest way and fastest possible.

I have an adapter Firewire/Thunderbolt and a Firewire cable :-)

  • migration of events imovie to new Mac without using the Migration Wizard

    Hello

I want to do the following:

Migrate from iMovie events of an old MacBook Pro (10.6.8 Snow Leopard) created using iMovie ' 08

    TO

(Yosemite 10.10.5) iMac with iMovie 10.1.1

All events are stored on 3 external drives (Nothing on the internal drive of MBP). Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

The destination is another external drive, with Thunderbolt interface. I copied the serious events in 3 separate directories, but not tried opening them with iMovie. Wasn't sure if there was data stored elsewhere (in ~/Library for example) that might be needed; In addition, I didn't know if I could manually merge the 3 separate records events iMovie with the Finder, or need to do somehow with iMovie.

I manually moved everything some time ago - I haven't used Wizard migration; I didn't have enough disk space attached to the iMac when I moved everything, so I carried on using iMovie on the old MBP.

I googled and read several articles on the events to an external drive / to new Mac, but none of them totally covers my starting position and desired end result.

Would appreciate any insight how to go on this issue, and how and where exactly iMovie keeps all the data you need.

    The articles are (among others):

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT202853 "update of projects and events from previous versions of iMovie in iMovie (2014).

http://help.Apple.com/iMovie/#mov3ac6d42c "copy or move a video in your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/kb/PH2302 "iMovie 11: copy or move video from your library of events to an external hard drive.

https://support.Apple.com/en-us/HT203049 "move your iMovie for Mac library (2014).

If your iMovie ' 08 projects contain media from outside the record of events (for example, from iPhoto or iTunes) then we must first using iMovie ' 08 on your old computer to "consolidate" your support so that everything is copied in the events folder.  Details for the iMovie 11 version can be found at: http://help.apple.com/imovie/#mov3ac6c7c9

I don't have the ' 08 version help files, but I think it will be the same - you can check with your old Mac.

"Disks have FireWire interfaces, I can't connect them directly to the iMac.

FireWire adapters Thunderbolt are available for about € 30, which would use these drives on your new Mac.

In fact, you can copy the project files and events with the viewfinder of an old external drive to the root level of the new new external drive (which should be Apple - formatted), but it is probably best to do from in iMovie ' 08, as described in the help of Apple.   Do 'copy' and not 'move' - this way you always have a backup of the original on the old disks in case of problems.

I would like to convert the project files and the events of each of the 3 discs one at a time, creating 3 libraries separate iMovie 10.1.1.  You can always rearrange these in iMovie 10 after you have everything updated and verified.  Some people have reported the update of blocking process at any given time, so update in small batches of events and projects is much better than trying to do everything at the same time.

In fact I would try to first simply copy one (or a small group) project and its events associated with the new external with iMovie ' 08 HD then update to ensure that it will work - from iMovie ' 08 for iMovie 10.1.1 is a big jump.

    Good luck!

    Geoff.

  • What do I need in a new Mac?

Need to get a new computer soon and would like some opinions on what am I looking for. I currently have a 15 "MacBook Pro (mid 2009) with a 2.8 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 memory, the graphics are NVIDIA GeForce 9400 M 256 MB. I have the habit of working graphic arts so my computer for graphics previously much used, but is no longer. Now all that I mainly use my computer is basic internet usage, but I play some graphics intensive FB games that are really slow on my computer. If a new Mac, what do I look for is faster than this computer? It's the graphics, memory, processor? What is the best recommendation... I can shoot with a MacBook or a MacBook Air? I like the ability to have a CD/DVD drive if possible. I would like just to make it faster on these graphics intensive games as this computer. I have 50/50 FiOS internet. All opinions and help what to look for is really appreciated!

First thing to know is the Apple refurbished store online http://www.apple.com/shop/browse/home/specialdeals/mac.  Apple-given to nine units for about 15% off nine and the renovation of the process find all the flaws of some love better than the factory-line units.  I have one handed to nine, and you can buy AppleCare on them.

    Now... the correct unit...

RAM and storage are set to what you buy now (well... maybe someone will find the right parts to allow storage upgrade later, but by opening the case the guarantee so pores...) to be ready to buy "until you might need later.  A review on buying more RAM, is that if you intend to resell them in a few years the largest models RAM sale easier.

I would not choose the device so that an optical drive now... you can buy an external USB optical drive later.

GPU will be faster.  Faster CPU (although the GHz is less, the processor will be much better type).  You cannot customize the different CPU GPU... they travel in pre-established packages.

I like 15 Pro (2 GPU instead of 1), if only because "more power I need now" means that it serves my needs for several years.  But the Air is lighter and less expensive.

  • can I use assistant migration to move the content of mac to new mac 10.11.1 10.6.8

Can I use Migration Assistant to transfer content from my old Mac running OS 10.6.8 again Mac running OS 10.11.1?  I hesitate to try to update the old Mac to El Capitan 10.11.1 before using the Migration Wizard because of concerns I've heard with the photos being lost or messed up due to the change of iPhoto to Photos. In addition, I'm afraid to have enough memory to update. My old Mac a 2.4 GHz Intel Core Duo with 4 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM, 319.73 Go hard with 15,43 GB available. Thank you.

Looking at the specifications of your computer, I would say that your RAM is officially agree but weak.  In my view, 10.11 requires 4GB but minimum would be better with 6 +. Your disk space becomes low for any use of the modern computer.  I have it would not get any lower than Similarly if you stick to 10.6, and you may need more to actually perform an upgrade.

  • How can I enable the GPU option on a new mac pro with 2 AMD D700 graphics cards?

I recently bought the new mac pro, and I saw the option GPU is not activate and acknowledges that the CPU one, which is frustrating. Does anyone know how to enable the GPU option?

Note that your card will be used for all the features of GPU - but the 3D rendering acceleration traced the beam - requires a Nvidia GPU. This is a deprecated feature that you don't need to worry about anyway. Since El Capo OS a lot stricter security.

You will generally not be able to simply use a backup Time old Machine as you did in the past.

Backups made by different computers must be used via migration assistant... not just opened in TM.

However, you can always copy a file or folder, you must manually via the Finder... ride the sparsebundle and access... If you have issues copy folder in the form of TM and then paste it in Finder... There are different ways to trick the it.

  • Putting swap on the road of new Mac Pro

Last week, I installed a pretty new EVO 850 500 GB SSD Samsung cloned successfully man requiring 320 startup disk to it.

As you can imagine, for the past week, I've been myself patting on the back, bragging to my friends and usually insult to the speed of light by Early 2008 Mac Pro 3.1 now working at.

It's seriously that quickly now, that I fear he will soon realize it's very own form of consciousness and maybe try to destroy the planet or something.

A week on however I wake up to the news that Apple will release their new OS Sierra, so excited, I rushed to know more.

Hhhuuummm, is not compatible with Mac Pros more than 2010.

Now having been a Mac owner and user since the first Macintosh, I am quite aware that if Apple is no longer supported your machine with a BONE, the end is near. Pretty overwhelming after only a week ago, he rose to the status of demigod.

Thus, faced with the imminent disappearance of my 3.1 and unable to splash the ridiculous $11, 000AUD wanting by Apple for a new, same spec'd Mac Pro, I have to look maybe a 2012 second hand model or similar.

My question is this. Can I just remove the new Samsung SDD and older Classic readers of my old 3.1 and jump in the bays of a new 5.1 and expect it to work?

While I'm confident enough that older readers won't be a problem, it's the Start Up disc (with the El Capitan on it) bothers me. Is the disk drive Start Up inseparably linked to my old 3.1 and unable to start a more recent machine unless I have format and start again?

Thanks in advance for your answers.

You 'Da Man' Troy, you 'Da Man '... I went through what you've been through as well. Had a Quad core of 2008 that was not serious, but is not a measure quite, so went with a 12 core opportunity pro mac, which, although the phenomena up a little bit on the handles (shipping container was ugly) now works correctly. First, back up your stuff. That is true with any computer-back it upward. Hard drives can and fail, usually without much warning.  Secondly, what you propose should work. The startup disk is not inseparably and absolutely linked to your old 3.1 at all. I'm sure that you have activated the TRIM and do all that. I see no reason why it wouldn't work. That's what I did with my replacement hard drive, only it popped in my recent Mac pro. The only difference is that the sleds by car are somewhat Pluss, and so it will not work in the other. All you need is a Phillips screwdriver, screws don't go, so when you're ready, undo the readers from the old machine, attach them to the new drive sleds and drag em in (by making sure, of course, that they are the correct way around). Assuming that there is a player any of your recent mac pro, you might be able to use Internet recovery * or make some kind of bootable Setup program and put it on a dvd or a USB key. Snow Leopard (10.6.8 I think) will allow you to get at least to the App store, and from there, you can install El Capitan. After you back up your stuff, you can use Migration Wizard and Time Machine, which are integrated into the operating system, to transfer your stuff on and off re - authorize your new Mac (and off allowing the old a) to use the iTunes store and all that, you should be good to go, and more if you want, you can put a blu ray in your new mac (you may have to the Scout for the software to play blu - ray even if - this feature is not built in)

hope this helps you - I think I paid about $4 322 Canadian with a monitor, and oddly enough, the guy I bought it second hand me that it probably came from Australia...

    JB

    * you will need to connect an Ethernet cable to the back of your Mac pro for this... A Wi - Fi connection is not cut it... too slow and capricious
