"Access denied", install Service Pack 3

When you try to install Service Pack 3, about halfway through, I get a pop up window with 'access denied '! And then another pop up said: "Service Pack 3 installation did not complete. Windows XP has been partially updated and may not work properly. "No reason given or suggestion. I was not able to install several other programs because they tell me that I have not SP-3! Catch 22. Any ideas? Thank you.

Thank you all... you are all a true treasure help and information from the UN-geek. I am looking for and buy a new computer. I need a lot of ram and storage that I have a large number of photos that I want to work with (one day!). I do a lot of photography for businesses and for the love of it. And I'm getting into the video for my real estate business, so let's make a few changes.

Thanks for your help... and patience.

Best to you all.

  • Windows XP install Service Packs 1, 2 and 3

    I have a secondary old Dell desktop PC. The Intel graphics chips and drivers were originally produced by Intel only for XP or XP Pro for this configuration of office. I had to reinstall my XP Pro HARD drive problems. XP Pro installed OK, no problem. I have need of SP 1, 2, and 3 to update the operating system to improve the graphics, who are in default of 640 X 480 16-bit VGA mode of operation.

    I use this machine for a program of database of previous flat file called Q and A 4, I need. I don't use internet on this computer. XP Pro tells me I can't install Service Packs without an internet link to Microsoft. Is it possible to install the three service packs for XP Pro without having access to the internet?

    Thanks for any help you might be able to provide.

    Here is the link for SP2

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?ID=28

    you don't need to install SP1 first, and you only need to install this if your relocation was not already SP1 or later version.

    Here is the link for SP3

    http://www.Microsoft.com/en-us/download/confirmation.aspx?ID=24

    You can go straight for this installation if you already have a service pack installed.

    Here's the downloadable installers so obviously, you will need to download on another PC and save it on a USB key (for example) or other portable media. The links take you directly to a download prompt. If you see something Microsoft Advisor downloads are for networks or professionals to ignore it.

    This will not only fix your graphics problems. You need to get the drivers for your graphics card in the manufacturer's Web site. If you want further help let us know more details about your system Dell (serial number and/or range/model).

    Graphics drivers are probably not the only drivers you are missing. Install the Intel chipset drivers above all other device drivers. Go to the Dell support site and enter your service tag to get a list of drivers

    http://www.Dell.com/support/home/us/en/04/products/

    You can download them in the same portable medium that you use for the service packs.

  • Cannot install Service Pack 3 for XP Home Edition

    Although my computer is always automatically installed updates, I've never had Service Pack 3 installed. I can't access to Microsoft SP3 to install on my XP Home edition. How can I install SP3 now?

    Hello

    I suggest you only do following steps.
    Step 1:
    You can download the service pack 3 from the link, below, which is applicable to all versions of Windows XP.
    Step 2:

  • I can't install service pack 3, I get an error that ntkrnlpa.exe is in use by another application

    I search on the forum and found that another user had the same problem but nobody answered.

    What happened is that I had a few viruses that my computer shuts down completely.  I have simply no money to buy or update of protection against the virus at the moment.  So, my computer crashed.  Then I had to use my system restore disks to restore my computer.  Then, after that I restored my computer now goes to the blue screen and scans files each time.  At the end of the list is a message: unable to write to the boot sector (according to me, it is said).

    Then I accidentally downloaded a virus.  He was disguised as a MS program and was called FixIt.  I couldn't get down there and he asked for credit card information.  I don't give any information and was able to use a browser to display the McAfee, then remove.  Then I used Malwarebytes to remove some other virus.  Not knowing what else to do, I tried to defrag and received an error message that my C: drive has been corrupted.

    My CD Player no longer works and my computer has problems.  I thought that if I downloaded the FixIt problem, it could solve some of the problems it is to have my computer.  It won't work because I have not installed Service Pack 3.

    When I try to intall Service Pack 3, it extracts files and brings me to setupwizard and then gets up to a certain point, and I get an error message as follows:

    c:\windows\system32\ntkrnlpa.exe file is open or in use by another application.

    I don't know what else to do.  I have everything turned off.  I tried to download and save to my desktop and it still won't work.

    Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    When I ran Process Explorer, I have disabled this file ntkrnlpa.exe.  I couldn't tell what was using this file - but I got the Google Redirect virus, so I thought that a virus has access to this file and prevents me from doing anything.  I don't know if that was the case, it was just my guess that it was what was going on.

    It worked for me.  It temporarily disables this file and then you can install Service Pack 3.

    I received instructions on my site quietfish.ca if you want to check.

  • After you install service pack 2 for windows vista

    After installing service pack 2 for windows vista on my HP laptop, I started having a few problems. First off the computer would not go beyond the Welcome screen because he showed that an update was the installation (step 1 of 3:0 % etc.) and the computer reboots before finish. It kept the case whenever I started upward, even on safe mode. I tried to restore, but it would never be completed and nothing else would work. Now I can't go beyond the microsoft loading screen because it shows a black flat screen with no cursor. I can't enter safe mode. Help, please. Safe mode only shows the start screen but won't start so I can't access the control panel and tried to boot to the last known successful startup but it failed.

    You can try this:

    If the system or Mode restore safe work not and you do not have a Microsoft Vista DVD, make a repair disc to do a Startup Repair:

    Download the ISO on the link provided and make a record of repair time it starts.

    Go to your Bios/Setup, or the Boot Menu at startup and change the Boot order to make the DVD/CD drive 1st in the boot order, then reboot with the disk in the drive.

    At the startup/power on you should see at the bottom of the screen either F2 or DELETE, go to Setup/Bios or F12 for the Boot Menu.

    When you have changed that, insert the Bootable disk you did in the drive and reboot.

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial148.html

    Link above shows what the process looks like and a manual, it load the repair options.

    NeoSmart containing the content of the Windows Vista DVD 'Recovery Centre', as we refer to him. It cannot be used to install or reinstall Windows Vista, and is just a Windows PE interface to recovering your PC. Technically, we could re-create this installation with downloadable media media freely from Microsoft (namely the Microsoft WAIK, several gigabyte download); but it is pretty darn decent of Microsoft to present Windows users who might not be able to create such a thing on their own.

    Read all the info on the website on how to create and use:

    http://NeoSmart.net/blog/2008/Windows-Vista-recovery-disc-download/

    ISO Burner:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/active-isoburner.html

    It's a very good Vista startup repair disk.

    You can do a system restart tool, system, etc it restore.

    It is NOT a disc of resettlement.

    And the 32-bit is what normally comes on a computer, unless 64-bit.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Data recovery, if required:
    1. slave of your hard drive in another computer and read/save your data out there.
    2. put your Hard drive in a USB hard drive case, plug it into another computer and read/save from there.
    3 Alternatively, use Knoppix Live CD to recover data:
    http://www.Knopper.NET/Knoppix/index-en.html
    Download/save the file Knoppix Live CD ISO above.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

    http://isorecorder.alexfeinman.com/isorecorder.htm

    Download the Vista software from the link above.

    After installing above ISO burning software, right click on the Knoppix ISO file > copy the Image to a CD.

    Knoppix is not installed on your PC; use only the resources of your PC, RAM, graphics etc.

    Change the boot order in YOUR computer/laptop to the CD/DVD Drive 1st in the boot order.

    Plug a Flash Drive/Memory Stick, BOOT with the Live CD, and you should be able to read the hard drive.

    When the desktop loads, you will see at least two drive hard icons on the desktop (one for your hard drive) and one for the USB key.

    Click on the icons of hard drive to open and to understand which drive is which.

    Click the icon for the USB drive and click on "Actions > Change the read/write mode" so you can write to disk (it is read-only by default for security reasons).

    Now to find the files you want to back up, just drag and drop them on the USB. When you're done, shut down the system and remove the USB key.

    See you soon.
