Access is denied in my network

Hello

I wonder if someone could help me to solve a network problem. I created a working group to share files between my desktop and laptop, but I can only access files in one direction. I can access files in the shared folder on my laptop from my desktop, but not vice versa. My laptop is under XP SP2 Pro and my desktop is running XP home SP2. I was able to ping each machine by IP address, and computer name.

Thank you

  • I can map a network drive by using the appropriate credentials, but access is denied (by default local account for navigation)

I have a laptop running XP SP3.  If I connect locally to the laptop and you try to map a network from a server drive on my network, it invites me for a username and password that I offer and the player must then be mapped.  The problem is that when I click on the new player, I get an access denied message.  It tries to connect to the share with my local account that has no access privileges.  Previously it tempt me a username and password, but apparently, I changed some security settings and it doesn't do this more.

The same thing happens if I use the command net use.  I can map the drive by providing an appropriate user name and password, but I can't browse it in windows Explorer.  I really want to understand the context that controls if you get a prompt when you access a resource on the network.  I think that it is related to the setting of security strategy for network access: sharing and security for local accounts.  I played a bit with it, but in vain.

I realize that I could probably add an account with the same username / password for my local account on the server and give access to my file shared.  I don't want to do that.  I have several users who share the laptop and access the local account access (I realize this is not ideal, but it is inevitable at the present time).  I don't want to have access to this network share.

Can someone help me get my login prompt?  I searched on google for the last 2 days trying all kinds of suggested solutions, but I couldn't find one that works.

Too bad... I was hoping that was the problem.  But at least it now asks you a name of user and password :-)

Apart from that, you could look to make sure that NetBios over TCP (NetBT) is enabled on the client.  Deactivation of this force a direct hosting of SMB which sometimes has problems.

Your latest comments seem to point to a followed initial connection or bad connect more or maybe you is not authenticated as expected.  A few quick tests, I did showed that if you connect using TCP/IP address instead of the computer name and specify everything, including the scope of user name online net "use", it reduces the network traffic needed to establish a connection.  As a test on a client, from a command prompt, try a syntax such as:

    NET use * \\192.168.1.10\share /user:192.168.1.10\username password

Where "192.168.1.10" is the IP address of the server, 'share' is the name of the action that you want to connect to and "username" is the local user on the server to which you authenticate you.  If you use domain identification information, substutite for "192.168.1.10" domain name in the "/ user:" part.  If you log to a local account server from a name of user and password graphic prompt, try to including the name of the computer and the user name in the user name as in Nom_ordinateur\Nom_utilisateur area.  If it does not, unless there is really something wrong with the access permissions, I'm out of ideas.

  • PC XP sees but cannot access Vista PC on network. Access is denied!

I have 4 computers on a network.  The network is set up in a private capacity.  3 computers XP Home can meet and 1 PC Vista Home Premium and can share files between the computers XP 3.  The Vista PC can see other computers and can send files to them quite happy.

However, when one of the XP computers trying to access the Vista computer I immediately get an error "\\VistaPC is not accessible.  You might not have permission to use this resource network etc etc.  Access is denied. "

I turned on the discovery of the network, public folder sharing, file sharing and printer.

Protected by password sharing and multimedia file sharing are turned off, but all shared folders on the Vista PC all have their set of permissions for everyone because I don't want to have to enter the username and password whenever I need access.

LLTD is installed and Vista network map shows all devices and their correct connection; all wired through a Netgear router except 1 wireless XP.

Help, please.  It drives me crazy!

I only use the Windows Firewall and AVG Free anti-virus.

Well, I finally solved my problem, but don't know what action it reached or if it was a combination of actions.  If anyone is interested, here's what I did.

On the Vista machine, I edited sharing the folder Public, all subfolders and files to share fully.

Checked the security settings for all of the public folders, subfolders and files, and then assign full control to all users.

'Everybody' added as a user and allowed full control for this user.

Restarted after each step but when even could not access shared folders on the Vista machine.

In desperation I edited the registry; went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE / SYSTEM / CurrentControlSet / Control / Lsa
Change the value of a key called "restrictanonymous" to 0 instead of 1

Quick restart and Hey Presto my network to work properly

My network is secure and so I didn't bother reduce some apparent security settings.  Don't know if it's appropriate for everyone but it might give some clues.

    Good luck

  • Visible ReadyDLNA, but access is denied

    Hello

I have a 1 TB external drive connected to my router. I can access the drive as a drive of the PC network via WiFi without any problem. - but I can't access the drive as a media server.

Both options 'enable media server' and "enable TiVo support" is enabled, the scan is set to automatic (well you do not click anything else here) and I gave the media server a name. It is visible on all devices - PS3, Yamaha, engineering app on Android phone, PC network drive...--> but NO devices can access! It said "access denied" the other said 'no file' windows says "connection was not accepted" etc... It is very annoying because he used to work before.

It is certainly a problem of router and not of any device as any device can open the media server. I just changed the settings on the router - only the name of the server, SID and so on. I have already restored the router to the factory settings, but it's the same then! "ReadyDLNA" is visible on all devices, but access is denied.

Thank you very much for your help!

  • Appropriate access is denied

On Windows XP Professional SP3 I tried to take possession of the C:\Program Files folder, using the method described in http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421, but after selecting the new owner (admin user) and clicking on apply, there is always an error:

    Security
Unable to set new owner on Program Files.
    Access is denied.
The system works correctly, except that when you try to install & H R Block tax software, installation fails when trying to set permissions. Which lead me to discover that despite be logged in as an administrator and have all permissions on the folder, I still could not take ownership.  There is none of the folders encrypted on this machine.  Many other packages have been installed, including the other years of & H R Block.  I can create and delete folders under Program Files.   On the owner tab, there are only two options under name: the admin user and the Administrators (the current owner) group.  What must I do in order to manage this file?

    Hi Ron,

I would say you turn off all antivirus and firewall on the computer and then try to take ownership of the folder and check if you are able to take possession of the file.

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you need to disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network, while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Hello Kaiser,

I would say that if you update your PC from SP2 to SP3 all your files will remain same.

Once you do a new Installation or a custom don't store all your network cards and other device drivers.

    ·         The computer is on a domain network?

Method 1: Temporarily disable the antivirus on the computer program and check if it helps. If it works, you may need to check the settings of the program.

Note: Check that you activate your anti-virus protection on the computer back after you complete these steps. It is not recommended to disable these settings on the computer. It's just to solve the problem.

  • Windows cannot connect to the printer. Access is denied.

    From: Steve

Desperately, I try to print from my laptop Windows Vista Home Premium to a shared printer on my home wireless network.  The shared printer is connected to a XP Home machine.  This machine is wired (via a LAN cable) to the wireless router.  I can 'see' the printer that I want to use but trying to to connect to it. I get the error message "Windows cannot connect to the printer.  Access is denied. "I would be grateful for any help.

    Kind regards.

    -Steve

    From: Alan Morris [MSFT]

Since the XP machine is HOME, I don't think that the permissions dialog box is accessible.

Run the XP network sharing wizard again and see if it affects safety correctly on sharing.

Is the printer you share one that has drivers provided with Windows XP?

In the meantime we will at least get the printer works for you.

Create a local printer on Windows Vista; Creation of a Local Port in the form \\XPMACHINE\Printsharename (this will send the files by using the redirector instead of the RPC service).  Install the Windows Vista driver for the device.

You can print because print$ access is required for printer drivers.

  • The backup computer fails with the error "access is denied. (0x80070005) »

    original title: computer backup failure

My computer will be back up to a point, then will be an error "access is denied. (0x80070005) "at the same time, Microsoft security essentials SAIS it detects a potential threat.

My question is this: if he stops because it detects a corrupted file?  or is there an error with a certain application that prevents a full backup?

    Hi Cyberwasp35,

    ·         Exactly how are you trying to backup?

    ·         You run the computer as an administrator?

    ·         Have you tried a backup on an external hard drive?

    Try the following steps.

    Step 1

Perform an online scan to remove the threat detected by the basics of Microsoft security during the backup process

To make online scan click on the link below:

Online analysis of Microsoft security essentials

    http://OneCare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm

Try to disable antivirus software and check if the backup is successful.

    http://Windows.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows-Vista/disable-antivirus-software

Note: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you should not disable your antivirus software. If you do not disable temporarily to install other software, you must reactivate as soon as you are finished. If you are connected to the Internet or a network during the time that your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    Step 2

This error can also occur because the recovery partition is enabled for the file backup or restore of the system and is almost full. To work around this problem, do not select D:\ as a backup source. In addition, go to the System Protection in Control Panel and make sure that D:\ is not activated for restore points.

    (1) open the backup and restore by clicking on the Start button, clicking Control Panel, clicking system and Maintenance, and then clicking the backup and restore.

    2) click change settings.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

    (3) clear the partition D drive if it is selected, and then try to backup again

Check if the service is stopped or started. Change it to start if it is stopped. The service name is windows backup.

I had the chance to find http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196.  But it is a response to a very similar, I think that problem on Windows XP.

And I think that it is better to ask this question rather than follow the instructions for an earlier version of the operating system, yall.  I just want to be able to use / access each of them again and again and again and... could you help me?

    Hi Matthew,

    1. don't you get the same message when you connect to other ports (behind the CPU)?

    2. you remember of any changes to your machine before the question?

    3. is your computer connected to a network?

    4. have you logged into your account administrator ?
In the meantime, follow these steps.
    Step 1:
You can follow the manual procedure, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925196 .
The registry tweak, that applies to Windows XP also applies to Windows 7 If you do it manually.

Try to use Unlocker to:http://www.softpedia.com/get/System/System-Miscellaneous/Unlocker.shtml this programs often works when the normal functions of remove Vista not work correctly.

If this does not work, you need to change the permissions and ownership on the file in order to have all the rights and the property (even on the inherited rights).  Then try Unlocker.  Here's the information to help you do.

To view your permissions, right-click on the file/folder, click Properties, and check the Security tab.  Check the permissions you have by clicking on your user name (or group of users).  Here are the types of permissions, you may have:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows-vista/What-are-permissions.  You must be an administrator or owner to change the permissions (and sometimes, being an administrator or even an owner is not sufficient - there are ways to block access (even if a smart administrator knows these ways and can move them - but usually should not because they did not have access, usually for a very good reason).)  Here's how to change the permissions of folder under Vista:http://www.online-tech-tips.com/windows-vista/set-file-folder-permissions-vista/. To add take and the issuance of right of permissions and ownership in the right click menu (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/05/21/take-and-grant-full-control-permissions-and-ownership-in-windows-7-or-vista-right-click-menu/.

To solve this problem with folders, folders takeownership or the reader (as an administrator) and give you all the rights.  Right-click on the folder/drive, click Properties, click the Security tab and click on advanced and then click the owner tab.  Click on edit, and then click the name of the person you want to give to the property (you may need to add if it is not there--or maybe yourself). If you want that it applies to subfolders and files in this folder/drive, then check the box to replace the owner of subcontainers and objects, and click OK.  Back and now there is a new owner for files and folders/player who can change the required permissions.  Here is more information on the ownership of a file or a folder:http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67717-take-ownership-file.html. To add take ownership in the menu of the right click (which will make it faster to get once it is configured), see the following article:http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/add-take-ownership-to-explorer-right-click-menu-in-vista/.

    I hope this helps.

  • Permissions: Access is denied only in Microsoft Word

I have a network domain set to the top with different users and permissions running Windows Server 2008, Enterprise Edition

The permissions should allow X user to edit the files created by another user (holder under the user Y) in a certain folder. However, I'm running in the "access is denied. Contact your administrator"problem when I try to change a Word file and save it. The weird part is that I tested permissions on several different computers, connected to the network (signing as user X) and I only use this problem on 2 of them (out of 4 total that I tested).

All 4 computers, I am able to access the folder and see all the files, I am able to create new files in the folder, and I am able to edit other files for example Notepad .txt files. But when it comes to .docx files, 2 computers do not allow for edition and invites you to 'access denied. Contact your administrator"and save as a new file.

All 4 computers have the same version of Microsoft Office and have the same updated anti-virus in place so I'm not one of the people at the origin of this problem.
