Add a SSD to dv7-4020sa

Hello

I have a HP dv7-4020sa which I run Ubuntu & I think that I'm pushing pretty hard (temperature on board often approach 100 c).

I would like to add a Solid State Drive to it as the main drive, but this document ( http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02842278.pdf ) seems to say that he can't handle a second drive, because it is an AMD processor (to be precise an Athlon (TM) II P820 Triple-Core the last time I checked).

I really hope that's not true, can someone confirm if I can use an SSD in this laptop without upgrading the processor?

If I can get it could wait temperature / fan noise to reduce a bit?

A (currently 3 GB) memory upgrade would help with that?

Thank you!

Daniel

Hi danima1

The manual of your laptop: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c02642701.pdf

Your system specs: http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c02237229

There are two hard drive bays.
You can put SSDS in your primary Bay keep it as boot drive. For this you can clone current HDD to the SSD by connecting via USB adapter SATA SSD. Then remove the HARD drive, put it in the secondary Bay as a storage drive & put SSDS in the main Bay to boot from it.

You need to buy another kit hard drive (carriage, cable with screw) as mentioned in the manual (look for HP part number: 605415-001), for the use of disk HARD add the second drive.

There is no restriction of processor on upgradation as far as I understand.

SSD white paper:

You have to update the BIOS & chipset to the latest version available on the site to download your product before migration and subsequent replacement.

Through the 37-47 page in the manual, the RAM can be upgraded to max 8 GB (4 GB in two locations) with exactly the same setup as described in the manual. (Memory SDRAM SODIMM DDR3 1333 MHz)

Concerning heating, I suggest that you clean laptop computer ventilation grids, evacuation areas, ventilation fan with compressed dry can air after turning off the laptop and do a hard reset:

  • I would like to add an ssd for my pavilion dv7

    Hey

I own a pavilion dv7 4050eb, and I'm looking to add an ssd.

It has 2 compartments to put a hard drive in my notebook, is currently being used, and the second is empty.

So I thought that it would not be a problem.

But when I went to my local computer specialty store (where I bought this laptop), they told me I will not work if the cable connection for a second hard drive and support was not provided with my laptop (which is you case) because they can't get those of HP, no matter how hard they try.

Is there really no way that HP can provide these simple parts (cable and support)?
And if I could get those, would there be any problems whith install an ssd in this specific book?

    Thanks in advance.

You can find the part number for the hard disk hardware kit in the guide Service & maintenance dv7. You can order the part of sellers online or directly from HP online parts store.

I have a Pavilion dv7-6178us laptop 'hand', and I would like to change the existing hard drive.  I understand that it came originally with a 750 GB SATA drive at 5400 RPM, but I inherited mine with only 100 GB SATA, OUCH!  I would like to upgrade my drive to a SSD for the best possible performance, and then add a larger disk for storage.  When you are looking for different drives, I came across SATA I, SATA II and SATA III and I can not figure out which is compatible with my computer or what he came originally with.

Which SATA (I, II or III) is compatible with the dv7-6178us? Specification the SATA is backward compatible. This means that disks SSD SATA type will work in your notebook. The SSD will be made only to the level of specification SATA your SATA controller is capable of. If the controiller is SATA150 so your SSD SATA600 installed work bandwidth SATA150.

What is the largest compatible SSD, or should I expect for the best performance? , You can install one with the largest capacity you can afford.  I would recommend not to install a larger than 512 GB. My own brand preferences are Intel, OCZ Technology, Samsung and SSD Crucial.  Purchase of the SSD in upgrade kit is the simplest solution. Upgrade kits come with a SATA to USB cable and cloning software making it a fairly simple process to upgrade the laptop. See the post-it that I wrote at the top of the section of portable equipment for some details on this.

What is the greatest player I can additionally ADD the SSD for storage? I recommend you not to install any disk hard legacy with a capacity greater than 1 terabyte. There is no guarantee that a superior who will work as expected.

  • S50 satellite - B - 15 p - it is possible to add addional SSD or HARD drive?

    Hello

    I recently bought a laptop Satellite S50 - B - 15 p.
    I'm very happy with it

My question is about its SSD drive
    It is now 128 GB.

It is possible to add addional SSD or HDD.

Or replace the current by the new with a higher capacity.

    My best regards

I don't have this model of laptop, but according to some pictures I found isn't Googling around this model of laptop SSD? HARD drive covers in the lower corner, therefore, as a general rule, these updates is not supported and should not be done by the owner of the laptop.
If you want to have full access to the SSD, you must remove the lower cover and it can be done by authorized personnel only. If you try to do it yourself you will void the warranty.

In my opinion, you should contact the nearest Toshiba service provider and ask for help or, at least, good advice what to do about it.

    Hello

Look at the picture below and see if your model is configured for one SSD installation.

  • Can I add an SSD to envy 15?

Can I add an SSD to envy 15 or do I have to replace the original disk?

Yes assuming that the SSD is large enough to hold all the data that was on the old disk, you can 'clone with resizing' from the old drive to the new. I use Acronis to make, and they offer a fully functional 30 day trial that would work to clone a drive. You will need an adapter usb to SATA to hang the new disk on the computer and access to the cloning procedure. On an SSD, but you are probably going to be cramped for space and you can just do the recovery with just the c: disc / > image drive and install the OS on the SSD using these discs and forget not to have a recovery on the SSD partition. If you do this, you should not buy an adapter usb to sata. You could also just clone the C:\ > will lead the SSD using acronis and keep the old drive to use for recovery if you need to do it later.

  • Apple will add an SSD for my imac end 2012

I have an imac end of 2012.  I want to add, and SSD drive to it to increase the speed of loading.  I use photoshop and then CC.  I really don't want to do it myself and can not find anywhere on the apple support site information they will or how long it would take.  Any thoughts?

You need find an authorized service center Apple close to home first.

Go to this page, click and fill in the information in the https://locate.apple.com/package.

Apple stores won't work, but an authorized provider can.  Give one of your

choice a call and see if they provide such a service.

I strongly suggest an authorized service center, because they are familiar with Apple products

Unlike a "generic" PC repair workshop

Another alternative to internal installation, would be to get a USB3 or SSD Thunderbolt

or housing USB3 or Thunderbolt and install your own SSD.  Although the external hard drive

may not be as fast compared with installed internally, it will still be a major improvement

on a standard HARD drive.  Install the operating system and your files on it and use on the inside as a backup.

    Hello

mSata differs from SATA, and there SSD that are msata and SATA SSD. You will need to decide how you want yourself. If you want an msata player then it will go into the ports of m you have shown, but if you want a SATA SSD then you connect just like disk main HARD that is there now is also a SATA type.

  • Can I add an SSD to a P500?

I just bought a P500 and have a chance to get a 120 GB SSD at a good price (Kingston HyperX 3 K). Is there a replacement part I can implement? I put the OS and applications on it and use the disk of data, files, music, etc. I searched the Lenovo site more Google and could not find an answer to this question. Thank you!

There is no separate a full-size sata SSD array. You will need to either use the msata slot or Exchange it with the primary hard drive

  • Add a SSD to a HP ENVY 15-J030

    Hello

I just acquired an HP Envy 15-j030 and I find the 5600 RPM a bit on the low side. I was wondering if I could improve it with an ssd (246GB) and use an external hard drive for my large files? I read something only support 24 GB ssd? If this is the only supported ssd, it would still be good to add an ssd 24GO and use the hdd usb 3.0 for files? Or is it possible to add more than 24 GB
    The SSD to the computer?

    Kind regards

    Tim

You need not type mSATA SSD.  With an SSD as a single hard drive, you don't need a cache drive to increase access time.
