Adding a new 3rd SAS 300 GB disk for ESX 3.5

What I have:

1 Dell R160 - ESX 3.5 Server

2. two hard disks 300 GB SAS - RAID 0 (I need not redundancy)

3. 2 300 GB drives form 1 Virtual Disk capacity VD0 about 580 GB

Requirement:

Now, I bought a new SAS 300 GB HD which I want to add to the already existing ESX configuration. I want this 300 GB for the 2nd (MON) datastore again so that I can create a few more VMs on this data store. I don't want to re - install ESX installation complete (if possible)

What I tried:

1. a way that I can create a new ramdisk on this 3rd 300 GB SAS HD so that I can add it to the ESX via VM Infrastructure Client data store. -Does not work: (.) Also simple plug-and-play of the drive does not work as the ESX is not able to scan the HD if I simply just add it on the drive and run ESX

I am a newbie so please let me know if you guys need more info to solve my prob.

Thank you.

Vik

  • Best Configuration of logical disk for ESX 4.0

Sorry for such a matter of noob, but we are trying to install our first install ESX on a HP DL380 G6 with SmartArray 410i.   I read on the performance issues, but I use a large logical disk, or (as in the beginning, we put the server for Win Server 2008) one for the o/s and one for data?  Our table has 2 physical drives 72 GB and 4 GB 300 physical disks.  Thanks for any advice you can give me.

Windows and ESX are very different.  Windows is more than a place to stay / file of virtual server products and he needs a swap file and current execution for OS files with hosting virtual machines, that is why the drive separated for performance and BONES.

With ESX everything you do is boot the machine, and once the operating system is loaded it will not be used for virtually any disk local, other than for the host of the virtual computer.

So several axes is equal to the best performance.  I know that you have 2 72 and 6 300 GB so you can make a large virtual drive... but it would be the best solution a large ESX partition bootable.

  • RN104 - added 4 new 4 TB drives. 2.5 days of resynchronization. Start copying files, or wait until it's done?

I think I've drunk mostly in the title...

I just added four new 4TB discs (WD40EFRX) to a vacuum RN104 running the latest operating system. (6.4.0)

At the start, he started a resynchronization estimated at about 70 hours.

Is a resynchronization required on an empty set of disks? (If not, can I cancel?)

If I have to re-sync, can I go ahead and start writing some stuff on the drive is Resyncing? (I'm willing to take whatever the performance hit, there could be.)

    Thank you!

The synchronization is made at the level of the block of readers, even thoug hthey are empty, they still need to be resynced.

If it's critical to copy the data across, you can start adding data while resynchronization is in progress. Although you will take a significant performance hit, synchronization and the writing speed. AND, you won't have the advantage of reduncancy until the end of the resynchronization.

Unless it's critical data, my suggestion would be to wait until the Resync is finished, and THEN copy the data across.

  • Added the new kingston 256 GB ssd to my MBP 13 "2012

I added a new ssd 256 GB kingstone to my MBP 13 "2012 and it worked fine for a month, today it has frozen and restarted without reason. and there is a folder with a questionmark in the middle of the screen icon. I once git to start again and now it stoped working again. Can any ideas on how I fix this?

You can contact the manufacturer and see what are the provisions of the warranty.

Start the recovery partition and run disk utility > first aid.

If there is no problem, remove the SSD and install it in a closed Chamber.  Plug it into the MBP via USB and see if it will start the MBP.  If so, the internal SATA may have to be replaced.

    Ciao.

  • Adding a new hard drive on e9180t

Hi, I have e9180t and I'm considering adding a new hard drive.

Can my office manage 3 to/6.0 GB/s 64 MB Cache SATA internal hard drive?  I get my full performance out of it?

I read the possible combinations (http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01817977 specification page

Is there a limit to the capacity of the hard drive?  (up to 2 TB)?

    Can handle a 6.0 GB/s transfer rate?

I currently have 2 hard drives in the following:

    1 TB - Barracuda (st31000528as) 7200 RPM 32 MB SATA 3.0 GB / s
    500 GB - Maxtor DiamondMax 21 (STM3500630AS) 7200 RPM 16 MB SATA 3.0 GB/s

If I buy 3 to/6.0 GB/s hard drive and use it as a hard drive, will I use these two hard drives as a secondary hard drives?

    Thank you!

For those who might be interestd, this is what I found after some digging and calling:

Since the motherboard that comes with e9180t (ipmtb-tk) is SATA 2, its speed is limited to 3.0 GB/s.   When 6.0 GB/s hard drive is connected, the speed will slow down to 3.0 GB/s.

You can only use the full 3 TB capabity if your motherboard bios has opportunity to support UEFI interface.  However, most of the motherboards built before 2011 doesn't have this option.  ipmtb-tk is one of them.  However, there is a work around.

    1. go in the bios and check that the interface is set to AHCI (non-RAID).

    2. when the disk partition is loaded, you will be able only to the 2 TB partition.  another partition 750Go seems a separate partition that you cannot change.  Partition the 2 TB the way you want to and install Windows 7 on it.

    3. after that excavation is done, download Seagate Disk Wizard.  Later one of their homepage did not work, however.  You must download this one:

    http://www.seagate.com/staticfiles/support/downloads/discwizard/DiscWizardSetup-14382.en.exe

I don't know why they don't have this default link on their home page when you go to download DiscWizard.

Once the wizard disk is installed, it will pick up the 750Go that you weren't able to before partition as a new drive and now will allow you to partition.   (Keep the MBR instead of TPG setting, format it to NTFS)

Once you partition using the tool, Viola!  a new drive with 750 GB of space has been added as a new drive.

  • Class not found exception after adding a new image in the folder resources.

The app works perfectly well on the Simulator and the device. After adding a new set of images, he began to show in every race, on the Simulator and the device, a class not found exception.

When you try to delete some images to find the cause, I get different classes not found when executing. Compilation and packaging the application generate warning or error. They even get signed. Some of the classes are not exception I get:

    Java.lang.StringBuilder

    NET. RIM. Device.API.UI.UIApplication

I'm guessing this has something to do with the size of the total image, since the size of each range image from 100 KB to 300 KB, and we talk about only 25 or 30 images in total. Adding image outside of the 'res' folder does not generate the error, but the image is not added to the final files.

In addition, this application is not large, but when compiling and packaging of the app, it generates and signs 125 cod files. Is this normal?

  • Added the new computer but lost all favorite settings on old. I need new account keep different settings on both?

My laptop (i5, running Win 7) is my workhorse computer that had all my favorite settings stored. I added a new office (AMD, Win 8.1) that will be used as a multimedia entertainment unit, but when I connected the cable to install FireFox it replaced all the settings in my laptop with the new computer. How can I keep the different settings on each computer? Must have 2 different accounts to be able to do this? I have now lost the web address for some of my sites, so it's quite painful. The "recently marked with a bookmark" folder is the main problem, because it is where I was monitoring my sites.

I added a new apple ID. He continues to show former apple ID what me I forgot the password.  What should I do?

Bought/downloaded content by one that Apple ID is linked forever, and in the case of applications will always require to update.

Your best bet is to try to recover the password for it.  Go to http://iforgot.apple.com and try to get it back.

  • Satilite M40X - adding a new processor

I was wondering how I would go about adding a new processor in my laptop. I've never done anything like this before and I was wondering how I would go to do. Also, I still actually have to buy a new processor so if you have any suggestions, or if there are problems cause I should knowledge about it would be great if you could tell me.

In your case, I won t exchange the CPU.
It is not really important because the price of a new processor is high and you get much more performance.
The BIOS does not always work with the CPU and Toshiba doesn't supports this service.

  • I can't initialize the disk for my new external hard drive

I can't initialize the disk for my new external hard drive because the drop-down list in the Disk Management Console does not give me this option. I'm logged in as an administrator and running Windows XP.  The driver for the new hardware is not digitally signed because I can't initialize the disk.  So I can't get my new hardware to run.  Does anyone have any ideas on how I can get the option "Initialize disk" in the Disk Management Console?

    Hello Honduras1,

Can you simply right-click and format everything first?  The drive must be formatted before use, make sure that you format NTFS.

  • Adding a new Hot Swap HDD to a PowerEdge T420

My server T420 currently switchable 3-hot hard drives installed and I intend to install 2 hard drives hot swap. The server has ESXi 5.1 and I am looking for the instructions for this process. The plan is to turn off the server, install the new HDD and reconfigure the BIOS to power for hard drives new. Is the installation process for the similar server to our plan or very different?

    Shad515,

You can stop the server, but it is not necessary since you have hot swappable hard drives. While in THE RAID controller BIOS, simply insert drives into available slots. Hard drives will appear in a 'READY' State At this point, you have to reconfigure your virtual disk as needed.
