Adding network adapter using the cmdlet New-NetworkAdapter is a failure

Hi all

We strive to set up the new network card to a server using the cmdlet New-NIC, but the process fails with the error below. Please provide your input on how to resolve the problem.

New network card - the specified DV portgroup 'ucs-bkup986' can not be used for the vnic connection since it's a GRPE of uplink ports

Thanks and greetings

Riyas Hussain has

The message seems to be saying that you try to use the uplink of the dvSwitch portgroup.

Can you check with the Get-VDPortgroup cmdlet and check the IsUplink property in the returned object?

For the code above, I'm putting the NICs when cloning a virtual machine. There are 2 cards in this case. Here is the document published online:

    http://www.VMware.com/support/developer/PowerCLI/PowerCLI41U1/HTML/new-VM.html

    On this site:

NetworkNameString]Specify the networks to which you want to connect to the virtual machine.fakefake

which leads me to believe in PowerCLI, this is an array of strings, but it generates the error:

    Thoughts? Thank you!

OK, maybe my explanantion was not too clear :-)

    It's your line

    New-VM - VMHost $vm.esx - VM $sv - name $vm.vm_name - Datastore $ds - location $vm.folder - NetworkName $networks

We will take the settings one by one and indicate they belong to what parameterset.

VMHost: all parametersets (Imagefieldconfig, model, CloneVm, RegisterVm)

    VM: cloneVM

Name: all parametersets (Imagefieldconfig, model, CloneVm, RegisterVm)

    Data store: CloneVM, model, Imagefieldconfig

Geographical area: all parametersets (Imagefieldconfig, model, CloneVm, RegisterVm)

    NetworkName: Imagefieldconfig

You notice that the Virtual MACHINE and the NetworkName parameter do not have a common parameterset.

This means that you can not use them together.

Try to leave the VM parameter, the command will work as well.

If you want to clone a virtual machine, use the New - VM without the NetworkName parameter.

Once the new virtual machine is created, use the cmdlets Get - and Set-NetworkAdapter to set up networks for the network adapters.

  • How to associate a VM for the second network adapter on the host

    Hello

I have created a virtual machine and added a NIC that matches the first physical network adapter on the host Machine. I then added a second NETWORK adapter on the host. I would like to create the second network adapter on the same VM and map it on the second NETWORK adapter on the host. How can this be achieved.

When I use the "Add Hardware", I does not enumerate the physical network adapters on the host to choose and assigns a VM mac address.

    Kind regards.

VMware customers use virtual network adapters if you need for a great, a second deck on the host card, but how to do this depends on the host OS.

For Linux, just run vmware - config.pl and choose to create a second bridged network adapter, choose the right pair of physics.

For Windows, run vmnetcfg.exe (as an administrator), disable the automatic bypass and then manually fill the two physical network adapters (for example to create two VMnet adapters * with each mapping to a different physical NIC). You also need to restart the host VMware Agent services and VMware Server Web Access before these virtual cards will be available for use.

Chapter 11 of the guide is a good reference for all this - http://www.vmware.com/pdf/vmserver2.pdf

  • The cmdlet New-Cluster of PowerCLI how to set VM followed?

    Hello.

I am creation of Clusters using script and need to allow monitoring of the VM with a sensitivity of surveillance of the environment. The cmdlet does not offer this syntax.

How can someone has any suggestions, this be achieved?

    Thank you very much

    Darren.

    (@dawoo)

    Hello

You need to update cluster VmToolsMonitoringSettings. This can be done by using the cmdlet Get-View or the ExtensionData of the newly created Cluster object property.

Here is the function that modifies HA followed VM Cluster parameters by means of:

    function Set-ClusterDasVmMonitoring ($cluster){
        $spec = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterConfigSpecEx
        $spec.dasConfig = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterDasConfigInfo
        $spec.dasConfig.vmMonitoring = "enabled"
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterDasVmSettings
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings = New-Object VMware.Vim.ClusterVmToolsMonitoringSettings
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.enabled = $true
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.failureInterval = 60
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.minUpTime = 240
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.maxFailures = 3
        $spec.dasConfig.defaultVmSettings.vmToolsMonitoringSettings.maxFailureWindow = 86400

        $cluster.ExtensionData.ReconfigureComputeResource($spec, $true)
    }

Now you can run the script against the cluster that you created:

    $newcluster = New-Cluster .....

    Set-ClusterDasVmMonitoring $newCluster

    Kind regards

  • Assign a physical NETWORK adapter to the virtual machine

    Hey everybody,

I did some research, but found answers to Linux and not Windows. Here's my situation:

I'm running a physical machine with Dual Gigabit Lan and Windows 7 Pro. I would like to have all my virtual machines that I run under VmWare Workstation 6.5.3 using the 2nd physical NETWORK adapter on the mpotherboard. Is this possible? How do I? Thank you.

    Hello

You can specify in the virtual network Editor (Edit toolbar option)

    See the attached picture.

If you can't change that... go to the previous "self-link" tab and uncheck the box

  • setting up of a second NETWORK adapter on the ESX machine...

I'm in the part of my ESX machine and I NIC one configured for LAN, but I try to activate and configure a second NETWORK adapter on this computer, so I can connect it to a VLAN different. When I go I see the place to allow the second NETWORK card (and I have) but it says always "disconnected" and I see only the settings for the first NETWORK adapter in the IP configuration screen. How can I set an IP address and stuff for the second NETWORK card, and why is it showing as offline after that I went out and restarted the management stuff?

Go under ESX / Configuration / networks.

You will see your vSwitch. You can change it or click Add, to add a new vSwitch.

  • That means "another device on the network use the IP address of your computer"?, that means "another device on the network is using the IP address of your computer?

That means "another device on the network use the IP address of your computer"?, that means "another device on the network is using the IP address of your computer?

    A

Most likely, the computer becomes a network address of a router. The assignment of an address ("lease") expires and must be renewed after a certain period of time, which could be an hour or a day. The lease expired without being renewed because the device has been disconnected at the time. Meanwhile, the address has been leased to another device on the network, or maybe the router has not updated its list of addresses the leases. When the device offline comes back online, a conflict results. Depending on the type of router you have, the conflict can resolve itself automatically. If not, then in the menu bar, select please

    ▹ System Preferences network ▹ 

If the preferences window is locked, click the lock icon in the lower left corner and enter your password to unlock it. Click the Advanced button, and then select the TCP/IP tab in the sheet that drops down. Look at the menu option

    Configure IPv4

If the selection in this menu is

    Using DHCP

    Click on the button

    Renew the DHCP lease

    Test.

Make sure that you have more than one DHCP server on the network. That could happen if you have more than one access point Wi - Fi, or if you have a router and broadband a wide device distinct in connection mode sharing.

    B

Less likely, you have a network address that you assigned yourself and another device is itself by assigning the same address. In this case, the selection to configure IPv4 menu will be either manually or using DHCP with manual address. This kind of conflict will not be resolved automatically. You have the following options to solve:

    1. Change the selection in menu using DHCP.
    2. Change the address assigned manually to one that is not used by another device.
    3. Change the address of the other device.

Which of these options you choose depends on the details of why you use a static IP address. Any changes you make to the network settings is necessary before taking effect. To do this, click OK, and then click apply.

If the router is also your device at wide band, then he may be operating in bridged mode. In this case, only one customer at a time will be able to connect to the Internet. Consult the manufacturer or ISP documentation for how to reconfigure the device in the connection mode sharing.

    C

According to a report a "DirectTV" receiver can cause the problem. If necessary, disconnect the device from the network, or power off and test. Consult the support services provider.

  • Using the cmdlet Get-stats for the problems of performance of ESXi

I have an ESX 3.5 server that has two NIC onboard.  I decided that I will join the ESX Server to the SAN, so I need these two NICS for iSCSI.  I'm going to install a NETWORK card in the PCI - X slot.  Unfortunately, without GUI, I'm confused as to how it will work.  Can someone give me some advice on how to add a new NETWORK card?  I checked esxcfg and I don't know if that's what I'm trying to use.  Any help would greatly be appreciated.

In the VI client, you should be able to go on the tab network management under configuration see the NIC it to add them to the correct vSwitch.
