  Usually people write a script to do the configuration for you. If the server you are restoring to that is an identical server, then you should have no problem, but if it is a new type of installation and configuration of server is your best approach.

  Hello

  Yes, you can have several license files - no need to group them into a single file. Once you add your host to vcenter, your host should automatically pick the license, and you will see the name of your license server in the configuration of license tab on your host computer.

  RAID 0 - a definition of tolerance drive no fault, in this case a single PIN.

  Many raid controllers able technical force you to set the drive as a feature available on the controller, before the operating system can see it, in this case a drive would give a raid 0 LUN set on the controller.

• Installation of additional software on ESX

  Hi all

  I had the document in the past, but he lost, can someone point me to some official VMware documentation which indicates whether it is good or bad to install any additional software on the Console of the ESX Service.  I have a customer who complains about (the only one out of many oethsr) performance issues and they want to install a software on ESX 3.0.3 U3 to show that performance issues come from the host itself and not their application.  Virtual MACHINE running this application that is MS Server 2003 1vCPU 1024 MB RAM VMware tools so far, VIC performance shows that they use now, but up to 25% of the resources allocated.

  So I need official documentation to show whether it is good or bad to install additional software on ESX, I really think it's ther app and not ESX.  It is always so easy for the clients used in the physical world to blame VMware for their performance issues.

  We'll install Exchange 2010 on a Server 2008 R2 VM... is there disadvantages of adding several hard drives and for dealing with the ESX iSCSI traffic?  Or would it be better to use the initator iSCSI in the VM guest to connect to the San (EqualLogic PS4000)?

  If we continue the road of iSCSI initiator that I'll have to do some networking finageling since our iSCSI traffic is spread over a separate... switch then I'll probably have to add a VM network to the virtual switch and add a second NETWORK card to the guest VM... It would be simpler just to add more hard drives, but I don't know what is the (positive or negative) impact it would have on performance.

  the difference in performance between a vmdk and a RDM is something that can be ignored safely, there are many autour benchmarks that show how VMDK is basically fast a RDM disk, but you can avoid all the complexities of managing iscsi RDM inside virtual machines by going with vmdk.

  Basically, the only need IMHO to use a RDM is if you need to create a Microsoft Cluster inside VMware.

  Even after activation of the virtual technology in the BIOS, the PCI device is not listed in "Advanced settings" to configure pass-through. Attached screenshot shows the current setting of the processor.

• Impossible to get my 3560G switch talk to ESX 3.5 and the EMC NAS servers.

  I tried for the past two weeks to get my 3560G switch to talk to a couple of ESX 3.5 servers, but VC and the EMC NAS. The goal is to implement 2 Etherchannels on the physical switch and aggregation of NETWORK cards on the vSwitch. A port-channel will have 1 VLAN it crosses, and the other port-channel will have 2 VLANS across it. VLANS have been implemented on the vSwitch mirror the VLAN I have on the 3560G. I want to (have to) use the load balancing. Also, I read other forums and websites to get ideas on how to implement, and every solution is different from the other. The problem seems to reside mainly in the configuration of VLAN on the physical switch in my humble OPINION, because if I just switch a switch, dummy can talk without problem. The following information, I already know, not because it's my requirement, but rather the parts that must be present for the entire configuration to succeed.

  All interfaces in an Etherchannel must belong to the same VLAN or considered trunks. I take this means that for the second port-channel, I have to configure interfaces as the trunks, since I need 2 VLAN different to go the link.  -I tried to configure them as trunks and the ports of access, and none seemed to work.

  vSwitch must be configured to "Route based on the hash of the intellectual property."

  port-channel - the load balancing must use the src-dst-ip option.

  FlowControl receive desired must be set

  Jumbo mtu 9000 system must be set to
