Address bar "I'm feeling lucky search" missing feature in firefox 4?

In previous versions of Firefox, I was able to type in the address bar and it would execute an "I'm feeling lucky search.
For example if I typed "firefox" in the address bar it would take me to www.mozilla.com. This feature seems to be missing in the latest version. Any ideas how to re-enable this function?

In Firefox 3.6, it uses Google search "Search by name" rather than "I'm Feeling Lucky." With innovation by the name search, it performs a search on Google and if there is a clear match he will take you on the site, otherwise, it shows the Google search result. With Firefox 4 it searches only on Google, if you type something that is not recognized as a URL.

To get the behavior of Firefox 3.6 on Firefox 4, you must change a hidden preference.

  1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
  2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
  3. Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and change its value on the link below

http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF - 8 & SourceId = navclient & gfns = 1 & q =

If you prefer, you can also do this by installing traverse it by extension - https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/browse-by-name

  • When I open a tab and start typing a URL in the address bar, my goal is switched to the google search field while I type.

When I open a new tab in Firefox, usually the first thing I do is start typing a URL in the address bar to the new tab (normally that uses AutoComplete to sites that I visit a lot). The new tab usually displays a google search page which is fine. It's there if I need it.

Lately, however, has changed the behavior of firefox when I open a new tab. After that I opened a new tab, my goal is taken from the address bar in the google search box. I mean not the Firefox search box either. I mean the search box on the google page. This occurs after I already started typing if I get the first letter or 2 of what I type in the search box, while the rest began to appear in the google search box. When I type a URL I want in the address bar. Not in the search box.

On reflection, I think that there are a few extensions that try to block or reverse this behavior of the Google search page. If you check your extensions, are one of them suddenly disabled or missing?

You can open the page modules using either:

    • CTRL + SHIFT + a
    • "3-bar" menu button (or tools) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions. Then check down to the disabled extensions.

Firefox will not go to any URL typed in the address bar. Or it will search for anything typed into the search bar. The uninstall feature does not completely uninstall Firefox because it does not delete my favorites who are all still present. The first symptom of a problem was an error message, the first fix I tried was reinstalling Firefox without uninstalling first. Now, the error message no longer appears, and I don't remember what it was.

  • use a search engine in the address bar

    Hello

for one or two years, firefox has had an update to change the search parameters.
Before that happened, we used to use the address bar of google-search and use of the search bar for individual searches like imdb or in some cases use of keywoards for individual research via the address bar. The 'new' - versions of firefox (I guess it was the update 23 FF and all the following versions) replaces the browser.search.defaultsearchengine whenever you change the engine in the search bar. In this way, the two bars of Act quite the same when it comes down to research. It took some time for the (German) supportpages update to this new behavior, but now that this has happened, there is still no clue how to change it back to the old settings, where the search bar is the search and address bar only led to a search via google, when it was necessary.
So how can pick us up with a search engine in the adressbar again without going through the embarrassment of having to choose the search bar engine?
I couldn't find useful information or plugins and 'Smart search' and 'Keywords' are no option for us.

I would really appreciate help with this.

    Thanks in advance

  • How to remove "search with google" on the link address bar?

In the last update "firefox aurora", I now have a little awkward accommodation that opens with all the usual sites, I'll and he says: Google search.

Or more accurately, it is said that after that I start to type any word in the address bar. It is quite annoying. I use firefox/aurora because I hate google chrome to do the same shit.
If I want to search with google, I'll go to google.com as I always do. I don't have an option obvious sell-out google it just to annoy the hell out of me when I need it 98% of the time.

Now, is there anywhere in the subject: config or any other way to remove this annoying nuisance?

Or if not, a way to downgrade to the previous version which is not only addition. (I don't really like on 'security risk' Please do not give me that excuse)

I'd rather not have to go and use internet explorer if I do not, but if I'm stuck with this annoying thing, I prefer to use the very crappy browser something that will annoy me always.

    Nevermind, it fixed.

Or update that just happened to be doing the work.

  • Typing about: config in the bar always results in the search results of the supplier, which prevents me to change the settings that could solve this problem to address.

I just installed Firefox 29.0.1 and immediately after the restart of the browser, type the addresses in the address bar has given rise to a page of search results instead of the Web page I typed. I know that this behavior is due to a setting in the confuguration, but I can't Setup since every time I have type about: config in the address bar, I get search results! I need to access the configuration, but this little gem in the update prevents me to do.

    • Make sure that you type in the address bar and not in the search bar.
    • Make sure you do not enter a space between about: and config if you use the address bar.

It's just an irritating gripe. Please help me

To set the default search engine used in the address bar, replace the value of the keyword. URL in Subject: config to one of the values in the search of the address bar with MozillaZine.

    1. type about: config in the location (in a new tab) toolbar
    2. If the nonsense of warning message appears uncheck the box before dismiss the dialog box message
    3. filter by keyword
    4. Right click on the key word . URL and choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
  • How can I change the default search engine in the address bar?

Beta toolbar AVG changed the search engine used when I type in the address bar of Yahoo search. I uninstalled AVG completely toolbar beta, but I can't seem to find out how to change the search back to Google search engine.

Skip this step if you also have a Yahoo toolbar
    Remove the Yahoo toolbar

    1. 'Ctrl + Shift + A' (add-on Manager)
    2. Select the piece of the Puzzle on the left side for list Extensions
    3. Find "Yahoo Toolbar" and click the "Uninstall" button and restart Firefox. (if you really need to keep the Yahoo toolbar, you can hide the toolbar instead with personal and always not to change all default search settings below)

Then to set the default search engine used in the address bar, change the value of the keyword.

    5. filter on defaulturl
    6. Right-click on browser.search.defaulturl (if it exists)and again choose "Edit" and then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice.
    7. filter on ytff
    8. Right-click on yahoo.ytff.search.popup_src (if it exists) and again once choose 'Edit' then paste in the string of search engine Google of your choice, so adventurous maybe see if 'reset' would delete and see if went into the session next (at least not for those keeping the extension).

  • How FF4 to use Google I'm feeling lucky feature?

First of all, I thought it was something in the DNS, but again, this isn't a problem in FF3.6.13

My web browsing workflow has been as follows-Type Web site name in the address bar, press on enter, wait for the mozilla.org home page to load.

Now, if I do exactly the same thing in FF4b12, I get a page of google search results instead of the mozilla.org homepage.

Why is this? And where in all: config I can fix that?

I tried this on two different internet connections, my house using the ISP DNS ISP provided and on my place of work where we are facing a server DNS internal.

I'm on a Mac running Snow Leopard 10.6.6 I use AdblockPlus and FirefoxB persona.

See differences in query google below-

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & SourceId = navclient & gfns = 1 & q = Mozilla

This is the query in FF4 b12-
    http://www.Google.com/search?q=Mozilla & ie = UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & aq = t & rls = org.mozilla: en - org.mozilla & client = firefox-a

    Do you see the difference?

Firefox 3.6. * Search uses 'Browse by name' rather than "I m feeling lucky" Google
To configure Firefox 4 to use the browse search names, you must change a hidden preference.

    1. Type of topic: config in the address bar and press on enter
    2. Accept the warning message that appears, you will be taken to a list of preferences
    3. Locate the preference keyword. URL, double-click it and replace it with the link below

    http://www.Google.com/search?ie=UTF-8 & oe = UTF - 8 & SourceId = navclient & gfns = 1 & q =

If you want to use the I'm feeling lucky search, set it on this link:

    http://www.Google.com/search?btnI=I%27m+feeling+lucky & ie = UTF-8 & oe = UTF-8 & q =

  • Firefox address bar does not work

I recently updated my software Kaspersky of Kaspersky Internet Security Kaspersky Total security, 2015 at around the time that Firefox automatically updated from version 35 to 36. I don't know if the update of Kaspersky has nothing to do with the problem, but now the Firefox address bar does not work. I've 'come down' Firefox to version 35, but it still does not work.

You can add a URL in a window of the Firefox window (Firefox or Google) search engine, and that works, like clicking on the hyperlinks that appear. But the address bar is totally dead! The address in my browser Google toolbar also works OK

I hope that someone familiar with the operation of Firefox knows how to solve this frustrating problem as I prefer Firefox Google.

    Thanks for the help.
