  Welcome to the forums!

  I read your post about how you seem to not be able to print in color on your Mac running the Mavericks, to your Deskjet 2544. I think that the base driver, or the driver AirPrint may be selected that could be the reason for having the option to print in black ink only.

  Here are the steps I would suggest for you:

  1. Reset the printing system
  2. Repair disk permissions
  3. Restart the Mac.
  4. Download and install the full functionality driver: 2540 Deskjet HP all-in-One Printer series full feature software and drivers

  You should now have the option to print in color.

  I have an old HP Deskjet 722C I have used successfully for years, most recently with Vista Home Edition 32 (as well as with my XP laptop). I can't work with Windows 7 64 bit. There is no Win7/Vista drivers on the HP site for download. Bed in installs but does not print. The printer is found and installed, but nothing comes out when I try to print.

  Note that I have a parallel to USB converter on this printer, I have used / use with XP and Vista successfully.

  I see a lot of threads print say download the driver and run it in 32-bit mode to Vista. Since there is no driver to download I can't do. Convenience store is empty as well. Any other suggestions.

  I was watching a few just referb cartridges today.  I had two in my hand and spoke to another technician who said that society referb clean very important he should which is deep inside.  I tried to google your exact cartridge to make sure that I was looking at a similar to yours and I couldn't not all the images out of the box, so I'll just describe what I saw and can let me know if yours does not:

  So I had this little 'flap' on the bottom of the toner cartridge and when I pull it slightly back and forth, I see the drum.  It is what can be easily replaced (by buying a new toner) If you see what looks like one white line - in other words damaged.  By just trying a new or used cartridge, you can solve the problem.  Although the referb may have a new drum in there, we're components deeper inside, which could cause problems like that, but to answer your question directly... eh, I doubt it, but you get about 60/40 chance of getting a good or bad toner when you get a refurbished.

  Research on the age of your printer, it's probably just some general maintenance reason so if you get a new toner and you you have the line again, look at my link and in this list, you will see a merger that's going to be the next thing I would check.  Pretty easy to change I guess.  I hope that answers your question.

  Looks like you got the wrong printer selected.

  When you get the print window, choose another printer in your printer dropdown. You seem to have a fax printer selected instead of a physical printer.

  I see that you do not want to be able to print in portrait mode. I can help you with this.

  Try another application to see if you have the same results.

  I have provided a few steps to check the settings for the picture of the application and the printer driver.

  According to what you print from use, verification of the application to ensure that the orientation is set correctly. The application that you print from, go to file, print, make sure that it is set to Portrait mode and no landscape. Or the application, go to file, Page Setup, Portrait.

  Check the orientation of the page:

  1. make sure you have loaded paper in the tray.
  2. in the file menu of your software application, click on print.
  3. make sure that the HP all-in-one unit is the selected printer.
  4. click on the button that opens the Properties dialog box.
