After Effects not using 8 GB RAM despite the allocation of 26GB

I use Primatte Keyer to key a few sequences of R3D (admittedly large) and finally the preview turns black and I get an error message saying: there is not enough memory to allocate. I check Acitivity monitor (I'm on a mac) and AE uses only 8 GB of memory. I have 32 GB installed and 26 GB allocated to the Adobe programs in preferences. No other Adobe program is open. Is the problem in Primatte, or y at - it some small problem that I only know AE underutilizes available RAM?

Memory allocation is distributed between threads / cores and single-threaded plug-ins can never exhaust these limits. So yes, it's probably something Primatte.
