After the failure of hardrive how to reinstall from an external backup

Hello

I have a Compaq CQ61 424sa laptop and the hard drive failed while it is under warranty. I had done the recovery system, the system repair disc discs and have made regular backups and Image system so I thought it would be easy to replace the files, etc.

I went to backup and restore (with connected external hard drive), choose "Select another backup to restore files", then choose the backup to restore. Checked the box "select all the files in the backup. Opinion said "all files will be restorations to their saved version on...» (date).  Click 'next' and all files seem to be transferred ok. Click "Finish" but nothing else happened. I re start, but nothing seemed to have changed. What I have to do somethng to another, or something different., and another question, does restore the programs and files.

Thank you

Cypriana

Hi erico

Thank you for your time and effort, but I had to get a local engineer to fix it for me, he did leave the old files. It seemed complicated to me, but he said that the problem may have resides in the fact that I'm backup three pc on a single hard drive. I don't know if this makes sense but I seem to be ok again.

Thank you

Cypriana

I don't have the CD of Windows XP OS came with the computer. After the failure of the hard drive, how can I recover 2007 Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 3? Hi Bobby Collas,.

You must have a copy of the installation CD without which you can not re - install the OS again.

If it were an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) installation, you can restore the factory settings. Contact the manufacturer to do the same.

    Hello Irfan,

Thanks again for your response. Since your last I discovered through my system status (Control Panel), I wrote that my product ID and the Windows 7 activation status not available. So I followed instuctions to help and microsoft support to activate.  Yet once, I got the error code D0000034 as before with the problem of update. However, I was given the opportunity to phone, but received no phone #. I bought the DVD of Windows 7 and installed on the PC that was custom built for me.  On the site Web microsoft help and support, I was asked for the product ID, which according to them is a # 20 numbers.  Not the only one, I have is the product key which is one 25-alpha-numeric.  I tried to enter only and does not pass.  This is why I say that I can pay for help since I did not ' have the product ID.  Maybe it isn't your area of expertise, Irfan, but I was hoping... I re - install windows on last April when I got in trouble and probably did not re - activate? What do you think?  If you can get back on track, I would be very grateful and thank you once again to be a big help!

  • Lost in My Documents after the failure of the system files

I have a (~ 6 years old), Dell Precision Workstation 360 serice XP Pro pack 3. This morning when I got up the screens show vertical bands of color. Given zero has nothing - not even the selection screen or function key boot options to enter the bios Setup. In brief - not even a partial boot - just (double) monitors show the vertical lines of color. Encryption on the motherboard could have found death I took the C: drive and plugged into one another computer (XP) via one box drive external usb. In windows Explorer I can see just about everything that I expect to see on the drive except in the My Documents folder. I don't know what should be there, but the only in My Documents is the music of my pictures of my user name and user name. The only items in these folders are the XP sample music files and images. I did a search on the entire disk for a couple of files that I know should be in My Documents, but nothing was found. Since then, I ran a virus scan using Norton Internet Security, but he found no virus. I've got some critical files on this disc I need today. Stupid me - had not saved them in a few weeks, so a lot of work is missing.

Any assistance to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

    Warren

It seems that there are file system corruption, after the failure of your hardware. Try some recovery software data (links below) or, if data is critical and expense is not a problem, don't take any chances and send the drive to a professional drive savers data recovery company.

  • How to transfer my music from ipod nano to my apple mediathek? Lost all the music on my PC after the failure of the system.

How to transfer my music from ipod nano to my apple mediathek? All the music was lost after my PC broke down.

    What is "apple mediathek?

Depending on the context, I'll assume that you are asking how to unload files of songs from an iPod to a computer.  iTunes synchronization is generally in one direction, from iTunes to iPod library. You cannot use iTunes to transfer files of song from iPod to computer (with the exception of songs purchased from the iTunes Store)

NOTE: Songs purchased from the iTunes Store can be downloaded again free of charge, on the iTunes Store purchased screen.

Download your purchases past - Apple Support

However, there are methods and third party utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do an Internet search on something like 'ipod music transfer', you should get a few links (including a CNET article on the subject).  Once the files of songs from the iPod to your disk, add them to your current iTunes library.

Further, you should backup your iTunes data.  Apple describes a way to back up your folder full of iTunes on an external drive.

Manage and backup your iTunes media library - Apple Support

This method should also be used when switching from an old computer to a new computer.  By transferring or restore your complete iTunes folder, it's the same iTunes library on the new computer, not a new iTunes library with your old songs.  iPods are not designed to be your data from iTunes backup.

  • Dead laptop after the BIOS update. How can I restore original BIOS?

    Model: HP Pavilion m7-1015dx

    Original OS: Windows 7

Current operating system: 64-bit Windows 8

    Problem:

I tried to update the BIOS by using this file:

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareDownloadIndex?softwareitem=ob-124651-1&cc=us&DLC=en&LC=en...

    Release: 2013-10-08
    File name: sp63801.exe [1/1, 6.56 M]
    Version F.29

He gave me a Blue Screen of Death and the computer restarted. After the restart I only get a black screen, the fan comes on but there is no text and no way to access the BIOS, or the start menu.

The led caps lock starts to blink twice, then stops for 1 ~ second then blinks twice again and again, indefinitely. This, according to HP, suggests a failure of the BIOS Corruption.

    What I tried:

I do not have the HP recovery partition, so I tried to install the two update of UEFI BIOS HP SoftPAQ and HP UEFI support SoftPAQ environment on a FAT32 USB key named HP_TOOLS. I tried these tools separately, at the same time. I tried them with 3 different bios downloaded from this site. I hold the button windows and B, then turn on the computer. Nothing happens. I tried Fn and B, holding them for different periods, there are no beeps, no text on the screen, nothing. The led on the USB key blinks ten times at the beginning and then stops, then starts flashing caps lock. I tried to put the .bin file in different folders in the USB port, including the root, same result. No.SIG file is in the bios I downloaded.

I am on mobile, excuse the errors. What Miss me?

  • Activation of Windows 7 after the failure of the HDD for gift

    Hello

I have an old Dell Precision M70 I work to clean up to make a donation.  The laptop came with Windows XP, and I've upgraded to Windows 7.  I ran a utility to clean the hard drive boot and Nuke and thrown in my Windows 7 Upgrade disk.  I was surprised to see that it is installed, however, the activation key for Windows 7 Upgrade is not be accepted as a valid key.  I understand that it is a key to upgrade, but is it possible to validate anyway?

I could give it's feel bad to do.  I would like to put this machine in fully functional form, but did not know that my upgrade product key should be rejected when I started.  I have a second laptop I had intend to do the same thing with, but don't have the key of the original product.

Any advice on how to solve this key activation debacle would be greatly appreciated.  I would hate for my two licenses to upgrade Windows 7 will now be useless because I don't have the original XP Activation keys.  Never did.

Thanks in advance for your consideration,

    Jim

Skip entering your product key Windows 7 and complete the installation.

When you reach the desktop, click Start, right-click on computer

    Click on properties

Scroll down to the Windows Activation

Click the link x days before activation.

Click on the link that says: "show me other ways to activate.

    Enter the product key

    Click next

Select the Activation of the phone

Click Next when you enter your key page

    Select your country

Click Next, call the number listed

Be sure to explain your situation to the Appeals Officer.

Provide the installation generated when ID requested by the call agent

They give a confirmation ID in return, enter it

Click next to complete the activation.

However, the requirements for the media upgrade is that you have an operating system already eligible such as Windows XP or Vista installed to use it. Since the Windows 7 end user license agreement.

15 UPDATES. To use upgrade software, you must first be licensed for the software that is eligible for the upgrade. After the upgrade, this agreement takes the place of the agreement for the software that you upgraded. After upgrade, you can no longer use the software that you upgraded.

So, if you are always denied, you will just have to reinstall Windows XP or Vista and let it do the verification of eligibility.

  • Dv7 want: OS after the failure of the HD install

    Hello
I have a HP Envy HD dv7 and it no longer works. I came with Windows 8, but later I updated for Windows 10. I don't have a recovery CD, is it possible for me to install Windows on another free HD?
    Thanks in advance.

    Hello

As the machine has been previously upgraded to 10, a hardware profile (digital rights) will have been saved by the activation servers.

As long as the previous installation of Windows 10 had activated Ok after the upgrade of the 8, you just create your own installation media and perform a new installation as described in the guide on the following link.  Note: On the activation screen, select "I don't have a product key" - Windows will activate automatically once installation is complete.

  • PCI not found after the failure of the system on the Satellite L25-S1217

    Hello
you are my last hope in obtaining all devices PCI works again on my Toshiba L25-S1217

After Windows XP he SP2 English frozen (maybe due to overheating) a few days ago I can't return to work.
Shows Device Manager three entries with yellow warning "PCI Device" - this device is not configured correctly (Code 1)

    It's:
    Athreos WIFI
    Realtek LAN

and another device, I do not know
    PCI\VEN_1044 & DEV_0607 & SUBSYS_FF311171 & REV_4C...

I had reinstalled all the drivers from the Toshiba support website (driver ATI card & drivers South of the bridge and all THE others), without success, so yesterday I restored the system backup CD but still having the same problem.

I think the problem is with PCI bus driver or smth like that, cause what happened before... but I was able to remedy this somehow. I remember this NIC must be recognized as controller Ethernet - not enigmatic PCI Device - because after that, I was able to install the triver successfully as well as Athreos Realtek driver for WIFI.

    Help, please!

You probably received the Toshiba Recovery CD.
Simply boot from this CD and reinstall the OS on the A25.
This procedure should define the laptop back to the factory settings.

After installation all devices must work properly because the Toshiba drivers are already included on the recovery CD.
If the laptop will run not as is, then it must be a hardware problem!

But it's really not easy to tell what's exactly wrong without putting hands on the laptop! Maybe a control from laptop is necessary

I have the problem that the usb device is not recognized, sometimes my devices are recognized s, sometimes not, but don't I have, I have connected my external hardrive, it was not recognized, I turned it off and on again, I thought that if I restart my pc it could solve the problem, I've done, but because windows does not start if I have the hard drive connected at first I turned it off again. When I plugged it again after the reboot, it went well.

but then I got an alert Bublé saying something like windows has delayed the process of drafting or smth on the hard drive and data are lost.

I opened the folder on the hard drive and tried to play sth, it was corrupted txt files went EVERYTHING was corrupt or gone!

p.s iam sorry for the language but it is so frustrating, I really start to hate windows, I think iam going to switch to linux.

Edit: the data is not corrupted, thank God, I rebooted and it worked but after a certain time windows new belives it is corrupt, no idea why that is?

and another thing, the problem with this usb devices are not recognized, what causes this error?

    I have windows xp sp3

I think you may have a hardware problem. You can try to update the drivers of the computer (including the chipset or motherboard) and see if the problem clears. If this isn't the case, you may need to update the bios of the computer. If all fails, you will need to replace the motherboard on this PC. Since he is a big part, I suggest you buy a new computer, or get it fixed if it is still under warranty.

I don't know if this is the right forum, but...

My two week old 500-164 worked perfectly. I used the built-in wifi.  Hpupdater screen pops up and says they have has some new drivers that require installation. I consented. After the reboot... wifi says no networks detected.

My internal wifi still works with all other devices that use it.

I reloaded the drivers for the wifi card. I uninstalled and reinstalled the device. Nada

I tried to make a recovery, but it fails stating that a "file not found".

  • Windows 7 will not activate with the OEM key, after the failure of HARD drive.

    Hello

I was recently asked to repair my brother DELL laptop.  The HARD drive failed and the system unusable.  I replaced the HARD drive and installed Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 (earlier version of windows) from my own installation media.  The recovery partition had survived the failure of HARD drive, I would have just cloned that and used, but this was not an option in this case.

The problem that I am experiencing, is that windows don't will not activate, saying that the key is not valid.  I was told that installing Windows 7 media would work with a retail or an OEM key, but that doesn't seem to be the case.  The key OEM I use, is from the computer it came from originally, and the only material change is the new HARD disk.

I try to avoid ordering an OEM Dell installation CD, as which costs money (I already have my own installation CD) and takes time (why do they have them available for download?).

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Additional information:

Computers, which are built by large manufacturers provided with pre-installed Windows are supplied with 2 two product keys:

OEM SLP: This key comes pre-installed in Windows, when it comes to the factory. This key is designed to work with the special instructions isn't on the hardware of this manufacturer. Then, when Windows was installed using the OEM SLP (in factory) Windows 7 key leans on the motherboard and he sees special instructions and activates. (that's why you had no need to turn on your computer after you brought it home)

COA SLP: it's the product key that you see on the sticker on the side (or at the bottom, [or in the battery compartment]) of your computer. It is a valid product key, but must be used only in certain situations (for example, if the OEM SLP key stops automatic activation for a reason any). The key must be activated by phone. (Note: all manufacturers that use the SLP OEM system are bound by contract to include a certificate of Authenticity sticker (COA), which has a COA SLP key, on the computer)
