  Layer styles in a different order, so a lot of things can get the dirt with you to use them. They are still usable in complex situations, just apply them to the right place in your composite. I've never found a situation where I needed a layer Style and another effect that I have not been able to work around this limitation.

  There are other things that change the rendering order. After Effects only doing one thing at a time. The basic order made is registered directly in the timeline view. Here is a sample.

  Base with the layer Style effect is turned off:

  Then fast blur is applied, then bbad edges to create the button with rounded edges

  5. Now the adjustment layer is added to the mix

  I've just updated to ae cc 2015. First start, everything was fine, but second early on consequences, the only window I see is list of rendering, everything else is closed. I am also unable to open any new windows/pallets, because almost everything in the menu is grayed out. Reset preferences did not work. The only thing that has so far allowed has been reinstalled after effects. But I can't reinstall ae every day...

  I am running OSX Yosemite on a 5 k Imac.

  You have activated the switch to auto update.  It is found in different places depending on your version of AE.
