AIR-AP1242AG-a-K9

The company I work for just bought one of these APs and I'm having a hard time setting her up. I did several searches of hae and I can't find what I'm looking for. It seems that after a factory reset by pressing mode for power, that I can't in global configuration mode. The config t command is not a known order. I am able to exc priv mode. Does anyone have ideas on this?

Yes, the version of IOS loading and CAPWAP messages confirm that this AP is in light mode.

You need the firmware IOS autonomous such as c1240-k9w7 - tar.124 - 21A .JY .tar.

Here is the link to a document that explains the IOS images.

  • Newbie: faced with AIR-LAP1242

I bought an AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 cisco and I can't do a thing with it. I have an another cisco AP which is an AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 and who has a web interface and the CLI commands work. What does the 'L' in real terms? I know it is a synonym of light but I put an ip address in the LAP1242 but I can't no matter what web interface to the top and I just want to use the device as a wireless access point network have I bought a lemon?

    Tony,

the 'L' does indeed stand for light; This means that, in order for this access point to the function must be connected to a Cisco of Lan controller (WLC) wireless. In light mode all the configuration is done on the WLC, AP is a bit like a dumb terminal. If your AP behaves exactly as it should be, as there is no web interface.  If you want to use this AP as your existing one, you need to convert to IOS and put an autonomous access point.

To do this you will need and IOS Image for this AP, a TFTP server and follow the instructions in this link

    http://www.Cisco.com/en/us/docs/wireless/access_point/1240/installation/guide/124h_c3.html#wp1038660

I hope this helps... Feel free to write it down.

    Hello

Simple question and I hope that the answer is too simple. Is the AIR-AP1242AG (style IOS), possible to have no security for a SSID - open IE?

  • AP1242 - requires antennas?

    Hello

    Product ref: AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9

Looking to buy one of these for a SOHO location (probably not a very difficult environment). Is essential to buy antennas to connect the RP - TNC connectors, or can the AP1242 make wireless without them?

    Thanks in advance,

    Darren

    Hi Darren,

The AP 1242 will require at least 2 external antennas. Take a look (there are double RP - TNC connectors for radio b/g 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz radio) so you will want to at least an antenna for each radio.

    Antenna connectors - AP 1242

    2.4 GHz

    Two RP - TNC connectors

    5 GHz

    Two RP - TNC connectors

Cisco Aironet 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz antennas and accessories

The choices you make depend on the model of coverage you want. There are a number of models for the listed here; 1242

  • Bridge root and non-root-bridge issue?

    Hi all

    My Network (see diagram)

I want to use in each AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 antenna two (AIR-ANT5195P-R = used for 802. 11A

    and AIR-ANT24120 = used to 802. 11 g)

view the diagram and tell me:

-It is possible with my AP-1242? If Yes, tell me how to configure 2 AP?

    Thanks for your help.

    # For 1242, two connectors for 11A, two connectors for 11 b/g, but these two connectors are working for the same radio card, no two cards, they are useful for providing diversity.

  • Autonomous to LWAPP upgrade on 1242ag AP failure

Upgrade tool I am trying to convert an AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9 LWAPP autonomous access point but the upgrade fails when it tries to load the recovery image on the AP. Has anyone encountered this problem and if so, what is the solution? 12.3 (11) running IOS JA on the AP.

    Hi Jason,

Load the standalone IOS using the mode button. Once the IOS is running, copy the recovery image using the "copy tftp: flash:" and change the boot settings to start the recovery image.

Once the AP boots the recovery image, make sure the AP can ping to the IP address of the WLC management and use the command 'lwap ap controller ip address.

    I hope this helps.

  • 1242AG support both the 802. 11A and 802. 11 g?

    Hello

I have 16 1242 PA 802.11 G running with b and g of the clients connected. I want to use 802. 11A for Cisco 7921 cordless phones. This access point take all both a and g at the same time? How can I achieve this?

    Thanks in advance.

    Khyber

    Hi Khyber,

    The AIR-AP1242AG supports the 802. 11A and 802. 11 b / g at the same time.

You just have to put in place a different SSID for phones and attach it to the 802. a 11-interface. Then you can samples 802. 11 a-interfaces.

You can also use the same SSID for all. But it is recommended to use separate SSID for data-customers and non-customers-voice.

Oh, and you need to sign one or two antennas for the 802. 11 a-interface, too, of course.

    Welcome,

    Sebastian

  • 1240 light with 2112

Hi people. I have 9 x 1242 AG, I try to convert in light but without success.

    The AP is:

    Product/model number: AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9
Serial number of top-level Assembly: FTX1045B6V3
    Software system Filename: C1240-k9w7 - tar.124 - 10B .JDA
System software version: 12.4 (10B) JDA
    The boot loader version: JA1 12.3 (7)

    I use c1240-rcvk9w8 - tar.124 - 21A .JA2 .tar as image upgrade.

Before we get into more details, please someone would confirm that it is ok to do? I have a sinking feeling that it will not be possible, which is a biiig problem.

    Thank you very much

    NM

    Neil,

    I highly recommend the following:

Only a single network connection between the 2100 to the switched network.

Do not all APs connected directly on the 2100, put them on a network switch instead.

The reasons for this is that the 2100 s, although they have several ports, are not switches. In fact, each interface on the 2100 s use the same MAC address. There are several bugs filed against the 2100 for omitting ARP, DHCP does not, PoE works do not, APs joined don't not the WLC, etc. when it is plugged directly into the ports of the WLC b/c of the unique MAC address.

You will have a much better experience with 2100 WLCs series if you follow these two guidelines.

    Thank you

  • ASSOCIATION NON-ROOT FOR NON-ROOT?

    Hello

I have an AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9 and two AIR-AP1242AG-N-K9. I have already set up that they work as bridge.

Bridge of root with---> 1 AIR-AP1242AG-N-K9 wireless clients

    Non-Root Bridge1 with---> 1 AIR-AP1242AG-N-K9 wireless clients

    Non-Root Bridge2 with---> 1 AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9 wireless clients

I noticed after reset root bridge or one of the non-root that fills when I type the command 'sh DOt11 associations' results show that there is a connection between the Bridge Non-Root 2. When this happened to the connection of customers related to the APs is very unstable.

as far as I know, the association is just between the bridges of root and Non-Root.

I Don t know why it happened.

To avoid this, I turn off in one of the bridge nonroot (AIR-AP1242AG-A-K9) the option 'Force Infrastructure Device to associate only... »

Cisco's docs show an example of a config when there is a root bridge and a bridge not root, but in my case, I have 2 nonroot bridge and bridge of a single root.

I would like to know if the config for my scenario must be different from the simple scenario (1 root and 1 non-root).

I hope that someone of you can help me.

    Concerning

You are right.  I'd only authentication mac on the nonroot Bridge 1.  In this way, you can prevent the roots not to associate with each other if they really are.  Then if it works, you can set the authentication mac on the bridge of root with the mac address of two nonroot bridges.

  • Correct configuration of the Cisco Access Point 1242AG

    Hi all

    Here's the situation:

Recently, we decided to create a small network of WLAN in our company. We choose the Cisco AIR-AP1242AG-E-K9 with 2x2.4GHz 2.2dbi rotating dipole antenna.

For better management, a new VLAN routable (ID:20) added to our router IP 192.168.55.1 and SNET 255.255.255.0

Then, I made the following configurations in the autonomous AP through WEB Console:

    • Static IP:192.20.10.35, SNET:255.255.254.0, GWY:192.20.10.200
    • Vlan1 (native) and VLAN20 (Radio0 - 802.11 g) added in Services.
    • I put the encryption against zero for VLAN1 Mode and cipher AES-CCMP for VLAN20
    • In Server Manager, I've defined a new 192.20.10.35 RADIUS server (AP-IP) and a secret shared and left the default ports for authentication and accounting (1645 and 1646). Also, in the default server priorities section I put focused 1 time for authentication EAP and the IP (Radius Server) 192.20.10.35 Access Point MAC.
    • During the General local RADIUS server configuration, I add as a server for access to the network current (AAA client) the same IP address and the shared secret as the ones I use during the configuration of the RADIUS server above. In authentication protocols enable I left checked only the JUMP and the Mac. In addition, in the users individual section 2 new users created with passwords.
    • In the SSID Manager a new hidden SSID created for interface Radio0 - 802.11 g, associated with VLAN20 and in the Client authentication settings section, I left as accepted authentication open with MAC and EAP authentication method. Also, I left the option to use by default for EAP and MAC authentication servers in Server priorities Section and finally I choose mandatory for key management in the section Client authenticated and active the option enable WPA key management.

I can ping VLAN20 IPs from any PC which is a member of the VLAN native both AP

As wireless clients, I use 2 Motorola MC5574 with Windows Mobile 6.1 professional. Both of them have a WLAN Jedi adapter that is configured with the following:

    IPs:192.168.55.10 and 192.168.55.11

    SNET:255.255.255.0

    GWY:192.168.55.1

In addition, a unique profile has been created on all of them to use for the authentication of the association AP. Each profile has been configured for WPA2-Enterprise with AES and LEAP and identification information predefined user (those defined in the PA for individual users)

    The problem:

Association of clients with AP is always successful but, authentication fails, and I can't ping the AP IP, IP VLAN20, nor the other customers.

What I'm missing here? I'm sure it's quite simple somenthing but although I tried several different configurations (even WPA - PSK, WPA2-PSK with TKIP) I always find myself without an appropriate solution to unable to ping.

Thanks in advance for any help

    Thank you

    Mirza.

    Hi Mirza,

    You have two options.

One, amounted to autonomous and re-return to LWAPP.

Two, the command is "disabled" because you're already using LWAPP image. Your LWAP contains two IOS images: it has the prefix "RRs" and the other is the image downloaded from the WLC. Delete this image, let the AP boot image "RRs" and run the command again.
