AirDrop ALMOST functional

My Description of ecosystem of Apple ("devices" include the iOS and hardware for Mac OS X):

  1. iMac (retina 5K, 27 inches, end of 2015), processor 4 GHz Intel Core i7 memory 16 GB 1867 MHz DDR3, storage 3.12 TB Fusion Drive, version of Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 (updated)
  2. iMac (27 inch, late 2009), processor 3.06 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, memory 16 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, disk storage 1 TB SATA, Mac OS X El Capitan 10.11.4 (updated)
  3. iPad iOS of 9.7 inches, storage 128 GB, Pro 9.3.1 (updated)
  4. Three identical mini iPad 4 devices, storage 64 GB, iOS 9.3.1 (updated)
  5. iPhone 6 Plus, 64 GB storage, iOS 9.3.1 (updated)
  6. iPhone 6, storage 64 GB, iOS 9.3.1 (updated)

My Question/problem:

The window of the AirDrop Finder on the new iMac (point #1 above) cannot find iOS devices and none of the iOS devices may find the new iMac, but all iOS devices can easily/quickly see them (as planned, the second iMac, #2 above, cannot communicate with all iOS devices because it is too old).  However, the continuity/Hand-Off function works very well between iOS devices and the new iMac, so there is a kind of successful communication of Bluetooth or Wi - Fi which occur between these iOS and Mac OS devices, but not drop.  All devices have AirDrop enabled, defined as "everyone", the two iPhones have their personal hotspots disabled by the official guide Apple for AirDrop, firewall of the iMac is completely disabled, all devices were restarted, Wi - Fi and Bluetooth are enabled on all devices and even AirDrop will not work between the new iMac and iOS devices.

AirDrop has worked between the iMac and the iOS devices in the past, but certainly not always as others have pointed out repeatedly, and I noticed for maybe the last month or so it won't work at all for me.  However, the last iMac's going to find the old iMac when I activated the 'Search for an older Mac' feature in AirDrop and the older iMac will see the new iMac as well, yet transfers between them fail with an error message indicating "failed to transfer. Please try again. "The common denominator for me is the new iMac, but I can't determine what the problem is.

Someone in the Apple support community has suggestions to tempt me in this regard?  Thanks for any help you can offer.

UPDATE: after posting my question above, I decided to login to the account of my wife on the same iMac that I have problems with above, and surprisingly AirDrop found all our devices iOS without problem!  In addition, the transfer of the iMac-iMac succeeded.  Therefore, the question of AirDrop seems to be that something related to my user account specific (all two of our accounts are admin-level).  It used to work on my own, but now does not.  What could change at a level of account affect AirDrop?

    5. Analyze the system of the computer in its entirety for malicious malware, virus, etc.

    • Model: Compaq - Presario CQ57

    Registry cleaners can have side effects that in the worst case programs cause or the failed system, they are not needed and do nothing for the system - other than to cause problems

    What have you cleaning use? What's cleaner for installation of changes to come back?

    AirDrop works on a Mac in 2010, but only with other Macs. Use it with an iOS device requires a Mac 2012 or newer.

  • Print to PDF function was large now terrible with upgrade in OS and AW

    Earlier this year, my lamp iMac died and I could get a refurbished iMac 21 "iSeries.

    Data sheet:

    type of lamp iMac G4 (possessed and used 2013-2016)

    1 GHz power PC; 256 MB DDR SDRAM

    OS X 10.3.9

    iMac 21 "series (refurbished, new to me February 2016)

    3.06 dual-Core i3

    4 GB RAM, 500 GB HD

    OS X 10.6.8

    On the G4 lamp, I was running from AppleWorks 6.2 something (I think it was 6.2.7) (I didn't this document and now no easy way to check if I have a bunch of files that I created with it).

    Classic 9 OS installed, but ended up not using it because my document (manuscript 400 p begun in 2004) AW migrated perfectly to AW in OS X, I had (and also because the classic did not really work). Printing to PDF capability has been a huge bonus.

    On the iMac 21 ", I'm using AppleWorks 6.2.9. All my G4 AW files migrate successfully.

    In October 2014, the G4, I got a PDF file of most of my manuscript printed in a local printing - only 5 copies for binding to rings 3 on archives 100% cotton paper. I visited several local printers to check the image quality. It has been uniformly excellent. Due to the size of the file, pages with scanned images (JPEG format) inserted in the text have been saved/printed in separate PDF. There are also a number of line drawings I created for the project by using AW draw and then pasted directly into the main document.

    I spent the next 18 months, evidence of indexing and necessary to make a number of corrections. In February 2016, I've migrated to the 21 "iMac computer and started using AppleWorks 6.2.9. Everything was good. Then, in early July I demonstrated new PDFs... body text without images and separate PDF files with images exactly as before. The result was a disaster picture-wise. Resolution of PDF files for all images, including my line drawings, is unacceptable. Help! I need to get this monkey of years 12-1/2 of a project of my back.

    FOR INFO. I still have the lamp, "just in case" - even if it ceased to exist, the Loft of the computer in Boston has been able to save all my files.  They sold me and set me up with the iSeries 21 "iMac.

    FOR INFO. There was also a problem with some of the designs and a chart that should be revised. I ended up changing them in Pages on a MacBook, I (10.4.11) and then insert the result in my manuscript. I did previously the drawing Pages are different from that of the AW functions. No problem with PDFs of these in 2014. (FYI. I said the hard drive on this machine is unstable, but it was fine for 1-2 months time I use it. I have not AW on the MacBook).

    I've done a lot to look online and see no further discussions on the problems of making a PDF from AppleWorks, well from what I read, I learned that the PDF capability is linked to the operating system and not to the software application.

    No printing with AppleWorks, I need to be able to make good PDFs at home. What should I do? I plan to call the Loft computer tomorrow morning, but thought I should at least make an effort on my own first.

    I have not tried a test make a PDF with an image in Word format on the computer iMac 21 ". Should I do this?

    FOR INFO. The manuscript is now about 500p in two master files - text with annexes and a separate index. The document consists of approximately 30 sections with headings under execution-odd and footers start-of-chapter/annex drop folio. As I said with scanned images pages are in separate files (20 or more). The manuscript contains almost 1000 notes and numbers about 45 and 46 cards. Most of the images are photographic, to be mounted by hand, so those who just captions text box in the body of the text. I tried to move this project to several years (ca. 2007) Pages without success mainly because of the drawings I had made to the draw AW. At this point, I have to just make the final revisions, to print my PDF files and return to my local printing store.

    Hi Dorothea,

    At this point, I'd put AppleWorks 6.2.9 on your Macbook, completing the revisions and print PDF files there.

    Copy the AppleWorks folder (including all files it contains) in the Applications folder on the MacBook. AppleWorks will create other files, to it is executed.

    Work with a COPY of your current project. Back up frequently on an external drive.

  • Messages arrive, but the "Inbox" or any other folder open even if the content still there (and almost all the menu items do not work)!

    Using last Thunderbird on Windows 7. Had problems with the operating system and had to use a system restore. When I opened TB, it displays the folders in the left pane, but the credits of "Thunderbird Mail-...» "and the 3 topics: E-mail; Accounts; and advanced features. None of the files would open. I used the "Search messages" function and has been able to show existing and new messages in the 'Inbox '. Also wanted to know if files are always in my 'profile'... and they were all there where they should be. (And almost all the menu items are disabled).
    I wonder if I need to reinstall Thunderbird... maybe the OS issues this morning - and restore - have corrupted or damaged key elements of the program?

    System Restore is not always a very good thing for applications.

    Reinstall is unlikely to help. But if your accounts are all imap and that you do not have a lot of other data (address book, for example) in Thunderbird, you could start from scratch.

    But before that, you should try Thunderbird started in SafeMode https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/safe-mode-thunderbird

  • T Bird 31 crashes / stands on many functions

    At the T Bird 31 upgrade and since then I had frequent stalls / freezes that seem to occur more frequently when uploading or sending emails. As will happen, but not as often, when moving from one account (inbox) to another account (Inbox). Frequency is almost all the time but seems to worsen the long T Bird runs. A typical example of the stall: send a message, up to just send message and bar progress dialog box. Progress bar goes to 100% (green all the way and said 100%) and then crashes. The mail has been sent! T Bird and then finally is completed the number of seconds to minutes or if I try to do something else in T-Bird I get the header (not responding) and subsequently (sometimes) gray out. The Windows Task Manager shows nothing special, no HI CPU, disk or limited resources in T-Bird or system activity. During this condition other applications, including FireFox will continue to function properly.

    Your Setup: Windows 7 Home Premium. Last M-Soft fixes 64-bit machine (August Patch Tuesday) and OS, 16 GB, lots of spare, no fragmentation. Also run FireFox (current version) as your primary browser without problem. T Bird has 5 accounts, 4 POP and 1 Gmail and several thousand message. The number of messages has changed LITTLE since well before the problem started. I also recently compacted files and emptied the Recycle Bin.

    Recently, or about the same time installed McAfee Total Protection 2014 after years with Norton/Symantec. I have disabled the add-in McAfee in T Bird but not deleted the add-in or application of McAfee. Is it an interaction that I should be aware of?

  • Firefox opens normall, but all the functions (url, open the list of bookmarks, drop-down menus get typing) do not work.

    Well, you actually run 12 of Firefox, I would firstly update 15.0.1 Firefox. Update Firefox to the latest version

    Then, after that, reset Firefox, Firefox Refresh - reset the settings and Add-ons. It will not erase your data, but will probably help the problem.

  • Share crashes regardless of the function

    Regardless of the function in the action you are trying to use all the keyboard shortcuts hang and nothing happens. Worse, even trying to cut and paste blocks of text, including the URL address bar or click on hyperlinks, pretty much no matter what, nothing works. You are forced to stop out Safari and restart to do shortcuts, links, etc. to work again.

    Have you tried clearing Pram and almost any other typical repairs without success.

    In the meantime, you can find the inverse function of almost no matter what there simply by solving this equation of x using the command solve in CASE.  This is sometimes referred to as "isolation x".  For example, if y = 1 + 2 / x, you can find the inverse function in case of premium by typing this:

    Solve(y=1+2/x,x)

    This isolates the x the other side of the equation, which gives us x = 2 /(y-1), which shows the inverse function, we were looking for.

    The command solve can insulate almost any variable from almost any equation.  It is very powerful.

    I just installed Windows 8.1 Professional 64-bit, got the ISO from Microsoft MSDN Academic.

    I also downloaded Toshiba Upgrade Assistant from the support Page and it has installed almost all the drivers and software from Toshiba (for my Satellite R830 - 16K).

    But some function keys does not work. FN + F6 or F7 (brightness) does not work. Other function keys seems to operate normally. I uninstalled and reinstalled "Toshiba Value added Package" and "Toshiba-function key. Also, the program function key does not set the brightness keys (F6/F7).

    Any ideas? Could someone help me, please?

    The Toshiba UE driver page provides the package upgrade to win 8.
    It s for 8 Win, NOT Win 8.1
    This is why some tools and utilities may not work properly.

    But look: If you use Win 8 (not quite sure to win 8.1) very important is the driver of Toshiba system installation.
    Such driver Toshiba System can be found on the page of the Toshiba driver too.

    By the way: make sure display driver is installed

  • HP Envy 17: Reverse the function keys

    My laptop is a very good laptop, with a good graphics card nvidia an i7 cpu and even 16 GB of ram. Even with a 17 inch screen full HD 1920 * 1080, making incredible games! Even GTA V for Pc works quite well on this laptop powerful.

    All of these things are an amazing gaming PC, however, it has a match no one back which makes it almost impossible to play a game with good fluidity.

    Present a defect of fatal game is actually the keyboard, but to be more precise, it is the function keys. The HP Envy 17 has two F1 - F12 and INSERT key. However, these are the secondary keys. Primary keys are keys system that changes the brightness or volume. That means if I want to use F2 in a game, I have to hold the function key, and then press F2.

    This seems minor, but when you play, it can be annoying to have to hold down a function key just to use one of the F keys.

    Dies, does anyone know how to get this fixed and reverse the trend, in this way if I want to cut my cell phone that I have to press the function, then the F6 key. I hope that people know what I mean and please if you know of a fix would be great if you could post it below.

    Yes, I used the F1 - F12 keys on a daily basis for the last 35 years or so, but fortunately I always use external keyboards using laptops (on or off a docking station). You may not share, but disable. Please use the following article:

  • AirDrop only works one way between iMac and MacBook Air

    Surely I can't be the only one with this problem. I searched online help and followed all of the suggestions, but nothing works. I can AirDrop OF my MacBook Air (OS X Yosemite, mi 2013 construction) to the iMac (OS X El Capitan, end 2013) almost 100% of the time, but NOT vice versa. The iMac won't discover the MB Air. I even tried "find an old MAc" - no go. Drop settings are as well 'discovered by everybody' and the privacy settings firewall does not block incoming signals.

    Does anyone have a solution to short to go to the Genius bar?

    You use a third-party software that modifies the behavior of the trackpad or Magic Mouse, such as "BetterTouchTool" or "MagicPrefs? If so, please, turn it off, then log off or restart the computer and test.

  • Reduced with the universal print driver in Windows 7 manual duplex function

    On March 13, 2013, I downloaded the last PCL 6 Universal Printer driver for my Laserjet CP1518NI printer.   Manual duplex printing is now a mess!  In Windows XP, duplexing manual was available for Microsoft documents, but for them, it worked: if I chose to print on both sides, a pop-up window seem to remember to press 'OK' on the printer when it was time to print the second side. I could close this window without affecting the driver himself things correctly configured: he printed the pages first, in reverse order, collected if necessary and rotation so that when this side is complete, all I had to do was take pages on the output tray in put them directly in the input tray and then press OK on the printer, and the other next printed pages, in good order and the correct orientation.

    Here's the worst: when you print a double-sided Word file, I now get a BOX of DIALOGUE MICROSOFT WORD asks me to press "OK" in the dialog box, not on the printer, when you are ready to start printing the second side.  With an open dialog, I can't work with other Word files to the end of the first side printing.

    Is then the settings: apparently, I need to change the settings manually (not what I planned "Manual" Duplex would!) to learn how to print the first side (even pages) in reverse, reverse order / rotation, then the second side (odd pages) in normal order do not hit?  Do I have to change the settings before printing the second side?

    If I don't make all the settings myself, it just prints odd pages in the wrong direction and DISORDER.  If I do all the settings myself, which is exactly the pilot done for me, other than preventing me from working on other documents, the document while current is printing?

    I'm especially disappointed because the old driver worked very well.  I just updated the driver because of what turned out to be another problem.  Sigh.

    According to the available information this process should not be performed by the driver. However, as I said above, almost all the settings you described I not know can be defined in MS Word. Back to history versions of the drivers, I see the same types of drivers that have been developed for Windows XP and the information I have shows that this function must not have changed.

    In addition, similarly, you should be able to allow printing of greys through the preferences of printer or the printer properties Advanced.
