Airport Express wifi speed

Hello

I have a 200 Mbps TWC service. I use TWC provided modem Arris 1070a (NAT = bridge) and have an Airport Express connected via Ethernet to my wireless router.

When I connect my macbook pro directly to the modem arris via ethernet, I get over 200 Mbps download speed. However, when I use my wifi 5 GHz of my Airport express network, I'm only syncing on 30mbps.

I understand that the Express has a 10/100 Ethernet port, but I should at least get 80 or 90 Mbps on wifi.

Any ideas that I can do to get a speed more fast wifi other than trying to the extreme?

Thank you

Vishal200

However, when I use my wifi 5 GHz of my Airport express network, I'm only syncing on 30mbps.

What is the speed of the wireless link? Option, click the wifi icon in the top menu. This will give you lots of useful information...

You must be related to the 300mbps... If this isn't the case, it will go just not fast.

I have 40 MB/s internet speed down.  I have a new modem century link (recently moved home - new internet service) feed my Airport express.   Until a few days ago I received all 40 Mbps through my Airport Express wireless.  Now it is capped to 10 for some reason any.  The only thing that has changed is that I had to power cycle my modem to redirect a couple power cords in my basement.  When I connect my computer to the same ethernet cable that feeds the Airport express I get the full 40.  I tried to restart everything. I tried all channels 2,4 ghz manual on the express (I didn't configured 5 GHz because I really don't need right now).  I don't know why its running at 10 and not 40 like a few days ago.

What is the brand and model of your modem provided by century link? What exact model is your base station AirPort Express? Is the Express directly connected to the modem by Ethernet?

  • iPhone 6, connecting to the Airport Express wifi, blocking all the other wifi equipment.

    Hello

My home wifi network, it's an Airport Express station. I then several other devices that connect to it - two AppleTV, two MacBooks, an iPad and iPhone two 6.

I recently had to replace one of the iPhone 6 and every time the iPhone connects to wifi of the Airport Express - the connection made the deadlock on other devices. This forces me to turn off the phone's wifi and now I do the connections of the hanging of the other devices start to work.

The new iPhone replacement to restore a backup to iCloud. I also then reset the network than the iPhone settings when I first noticed this wifi connection problem, but the problem persists.

Thoughts on how to fix this?

My solution, after two devices, and visits to the Apple Store Genius bar was to do a full reset of the device and do not restore from a backup.

For the appliance swaps were probably not necessary had we done the software reset and restore from scratch first.

Geniuses and I were not able to find the cause of the problem.

  • my airport express does not extend to my network

Hello to you all guru out there...

I 5g internet and comes with the router and signal is fantastic in the main lounge, but it is a large apartment and once I get my room the signal decreases considerably.

I bought an Airport Express and it connects to the wifi perfectly, green light and everything, but it does not extend my wifi network...

Do I need to have another Aiport Express hooked up to the main router, then extend the Airport Express wifi or should I get an Airport Extreme?

Any advice or help is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you!

Do I need to have another Aiport Express hooked up to the main router, then extend the Airport Express wifi

Yes, the "main" AirPort Express should be connected to your router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, permanently. This Express will be set to "create a wireless network.

Other Express your distance can then be configured to "extend a wireless network.  In its current form, your existing Express is configured to "join a wireless network.  It will work for AirPlay like that, or allow you to connect a supported USB printer, but it cannot extend a network provided by a third-party router wireless.

Regarding matching them things, it would make sense to use two airport expresses, or the two extremes of the airport.  The extreme might be your "primary" router if you wanted to, but the Express would not be able to expand the capacity of faster speed to the extreme.

  • Setting up Airport Express to provide internet to existing network

    Hello

I want to install the following configuration:

Router (ISP) < connection cable > Airport Express < Wifi > router primary < cable connection > Network Attached Storage / TV / Playstation

Is it possible to provide the internet connection to the main router via the express from the airport, that is connected to the Wan? Or the Airport express to be the main router, to use the WAN connection, it connected?

Hope you find what I want to do ;-)

    Concerning

    Michael

This configuration will not work... unless the main router is a sort of apple airport. Is it?

It is a very poor installation, even if you have as a main router apple airport... It's much better to the cable. I'm guessing that's not possible... If not then you another possible way around the problem is adapters EOP (ethernet over power).

They do not go to work in all situations depending on the power of its wiring in the House... but are better than wireless links when they do.

You show a (ISP) router to the starting point... what router is it? If that works as a router... None of the other devices must be configured as router... have a primary router means that you have no router in front of her.

Give us details and we can help you further.

  • Airport express at slow speed of the modem Arris SB6190

    Hello!

My so-called WIFi Comcast gives me 150Mbps. My test only show 70 or slower speed on a WiFi test. After the call to them they told me to talk to my modems customer service. But their customer service is terrible. Here is my setup and yes everything has been switched off voltage and reset. And Comcast has been created with the modem while the Comcast guy was here. From the start after a few hard reset the express worked. Here's the question and the installation program.

I have a SB6190 (not wireless), Arris directly connected to my Airport express. The express (which deals with my wireless connection) is connected to a switch (for wired devices). But I think that my problem is the Express. ? Not sure, I guess my question is I do something wrong in public services from the airport with the Express settings? I do not see why I get more 75Mbps wireless. Or maybe Apple if your reading, you can give it a fix on your next update. Hope you can help and thanks!

    Here some thoughts:

    (1) the Airport Express uses 100 ports Ethernet of Mbit/s, so the theoretical maximum speed that could be achieved with an Ethernet or Wi - Fi through the Express would be 100 Mbit / s.

    (2) the Express is not known for his speed wireless. On a connection of 100 Mbps Internet here, I see usually 45 - 50 Mbps at best more wireless, no matter if the 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz is used.  Ethernet checks better about 75-80 MB/s to the Express LAN port.

    (3) these are user to user support forums, so it is very unlikely that anyone from Apple will ever see your post. If you want to provide feedback to Apple, you can do so here: Apple Apple - AirPort Express - Feedback will acknowledge receipt of your message, but they will not respond after that.

    (4) the AirPort Express was introduced almost 4 years ago and it's been 2 years that Apple has provided an update firmware for the product, so additional updates are not probably... my opinion.

  • can a wifi with an airport extreme network be extended with two Airport express wireless?

I have developed successfully the range of my wifi network by connecting an older brick of Airport express to a new airport extreme. Unfortunately, there is a room more than I would like to achieve, so I'm trying to add a second (newer) to bring in this room to get full coverage. When I try to set up in the airport utility it hits an "unexpected error" message continually or breaks down the network. should I change in the settings? the express environment be on something else (like a relay?) in order to allow the new express to join the network? I have reset the factory default final express and tried to let the wizard implemented to extend my existing network.

I understand that I will sacrifice speed, but there is no way to connect them at the present time. worst case, I should better results if I break through the floor and the extreme of wire in the Middle express?

    Thank you

    David

Sorry, but Apple will allow you only to wireless "extend" the network once, not two.

In other words, just about any device that "extends" the network must connect directly to the 'main' router... not to another router that is already expanding the network.

Another way of saying the same thing... both your need for extensions at about the same distance from the 'main' router and two extensions should be closer to the main router they are to each other.

You want to continue trying to implement the 2nd AirPort Express Terminal?

"I should better results if I break through the floor and the extreme of wire in the Middle express?

Yes, that would allow you to do what you want, assuming that the 'remote' Express can pick up a good signal of the Middle Express wireless.

  • My Airport Express will randomly start flashing orange and I have to unplug it to make it back to the green.  Wifi continues to operate even when the light is orange flashing.  Anyone know why this is happening?

My Airport Express will randomly start flashing orange and I have to unplug it to make it back to the green. Wifi continues to operate even when the light is orange flashing. Anyone know why this is happening?

The next time you see the flashing light amber...

Open Finder > Applications > utilities > AirPort Utility

Click on the image of the AirPort Express

If you see a button update, click on update the firmware on the airport

Otherwise, find status and click on the little orange dot it. A message will appear to say why the airport complained and suggest a remedy for the issue.

  • Yesterday my AirPort express (2nd generation) wanted to update to be r 7.6.7. After that the speed of the aircraft fell sharply. Everyone has experienced similar behavior? Tips to solve the problem are welcome.

Yesterday my Airport Express wanted to updated, I did. (from 7.4.6 to 7.6.7).

After that, he started to behave erratically with big drops in speed. Anyone have similar experiences? How can I fix this without having to buy a new one.

Stop your Mac. Turn off your Airport Express and stop the modem from your ISP. Wait 10 minutes, then turn on the modem to ISP, and then the Airport Express base station. Power on your Mac. Re-evaluate your performance problems.

Run thisor that in this preference order to assess your latency time, download and bandwidth. You may need to modify the server or the other.

I have upgrade 7.6.7 on my 4th gen Airport Extreme and observed no performance degradation to before the update.

Sometimes the ISP gets their DNS in a tangle and makes the network almost Catatonic until they have to fix things. Nothing to do in this case at the user level. Did you call your ISP and asked them to check their equipment on your premises?

  • MacBook Air Mid 2011 Wifi only next to the Airport Express

    Hey everybody!

These days I have trouble with one of my MacBook Air. I plug a new as my girlfriend needs a job.

Anyway. I have updated to OS X El Capitan and struggle with the wifi. I made an appointment at the Genius Bar closest to you to solve the problems in the system.

As I had to download the OS X on my Mac Pro, I had a problem with the wifi these permissions switch and system information. If you scroll to the installation, there should be a list of installed software. In my case nothing.

After that the genius of Apple erased the disk and started the installation via ethernet with an Apple Server, I got a new version of OS X El Capitan on it. Everything appears fine (system information).

The Wifi worked perfectly in the store.

So, I got not any chance to try at home immediately. Today, I wanted to put the macbook for other facilities. I noticed that the wifi is extremely slow.

I deleted the cache (which does not yet exist). I have reset the starting power setting. I have reset my Airport express from Apple. I changed the DNS to google DNS (8.8.8.8./8.8.4.4.). I too turned off bluetooth.

    All without any modification.

BUT if I'm right in front of the apple express (literally sitting on the router), the wifi works without any problem.

Please, I beg you! I have no idea what to do next. My other Mac Air and pro work perfectly. Any distance. (They have been disabled for testing). iPhone, iPad and Apple TV work fine.

I seem to have this problem with my MacBook, a model of early 2015. What I was told is that the Wi - Fi antenna is nested in the compartment of the screen, located on the edge, practising thus pressure deforms it. Because the body is made of aluminum, the body involuntarily also acts as an antenna, interfere with the Wi - Fi signal. Here are the two plausible reasons why sometimes the signal is lost or slows down, and it made perfect sense to me.

Maybe it's the issue here. If that's the case then I would attribute that to the misconception. I'm sure you can get it fixed, although I don't know how you would seeing that Apple seems to weld their new machines stop.

  • Airport express to extend my wifi signal

I bought and set up the Airport express to extend a wifi signal in my house. I do not have an airport extreme as a base station - I thought I could use the express to extend the signal from my router/modem from verizon. Is this possible?

Turned it "on" now, I don't see the express network as an option in my combo network - so assuming that it will seek to expand, what's the problem with it only shows not not in the drop-down list?

The AirPort Express only wireless may extend over a network that is provided by another router from Apple.  As such, it cannot extend wireless signal router left 3rd.

Another way of saying the same thing, it's that if you want to extend wireless network using a router from Apple, you will need two routers Apple.

If you can connect the AirPort Express Terminal to your main router using a wired Ethernet cable connection, permanent, then the Express can be configured to provide additional coverage of wireless signal in this way.

  • Airport Express does not connect to WiFi!

My Airport Express has lost its connection to the WiFi and cannot reconnect, keeps flashing yellow!

It is only used to stream music from my iPad and not connected via ethernet. Its working well for 2 years until he lost the connection to my iPad because I took the iPad out of range of WiFi. Now, I can't get the the airport to connect to the WiFi again.

I tried to reset button Reset 20 sec, also tried turning setting turned off and now the reset button for a maneuver on once again, however, does not. Any ideas?

    Gorm.

    Hello

There may be a firmware update available.

Open the AirPort Utility application located in HD > Applications > utilities , then click on the AirPort Express .

If an update is available, you must do.

  • About Airport Express speed

So I have an airport express 802.11n 1 St gen. I just had a new place and got a TWC modem with internet high speed 200/20. To maximize the speed of the internet, I bought my router? And if not what device would be capable of managing the total capacity of the modem (the 2nd gen vs extreme). Thank you very much!

The AirPort Express... the 2nd Gen version... or 1st generation has a 100 Mbps Ethernet port, which would be the theoretical maximum connection speed which is the version of the Express could bring.

The AIrPort Extreme has a 1 000 Mbit/s Ethernet port, so he won't have any trouble to manage a 200 Mbps Internet connection... and much more if it is higher speeds are available.

On a 300 Mbps connection here with TWC Internet, AirPort Extreme usually book on 325-330 Mbits / s, indicating that TWC gives more than they promised.

  • Change of modem can improve the speed of Airport Express Extender?

My router is a Airport Extreme 6th Gen.

When Wi - Fi and close this Airport Extreme base station, I get average speeds of:

117 Mbps down and > 11 Mbps upward

At the opposite end of the House, I use a wireless extension: Airport Express 1 St gen - model A1264 (MB32 1LL/A)

Here, the download speed goes up to 14mbps

Download speed rest > 11 Mbps

My ISP will not have my current cable modem: 6580 Motorola (jumpered to disable router) to provide speeds greater than 100/10 (though even I can actually slightly higher than average, I have indicate above).

If I replaced the modem with my ISP (Time Warner Cable) provisions for 200/20Mbps (speeds I pay in fact) - and * if * I got then that 100 Mbps speed increase (wireless) when close to my Airport Extreme base station (and I think I'll) - should I then expect to see a significant speed increase at the opposite end of the House , where I rely on the Airport Express wireless extension?

In other words, is expected to double the speed of my modem now gives me wireless (when you're on my Apple Extreme base station) also be reflected in an increase in speed at the end of the House where I must rely on the Express Extender 1 generation and where I am now only download speeds see 14Mbps?

    BTW:

    1. I can not move my extreme or my Express.  They both must stay exactly where they are. Neither can they cannot be permanently interconnected via ethernet cable.

    2. I don't think the speed reduction I describe is a bandwidth issue because I am the only one on the network and do not have multiple downloads on several devices at the same time.

Before I ring $$$ on a modem that won't improve my speed, you will appreciate any guidance I where I need more.

Change of modem can improve the speed of AirPort Express Extender?

Just a little, at best. The Express pourrait spend 25-30 Mbps. No guarantee, with strangeness wireless... it is maybe the same or worse based on my experiences.

If you need more speed at the end of the House... the AirPort Express must be located to half way between the AirPort Extreme and the end of the House. Ideally, he would have line-of-sight with AirPort Extreme.

Yet, you say that you can not move the Express or the extreme and can't get the Ethernet cable. Have you considered or tried Powerline Ethernet adapters?

  • Airport Express connects to my WiFi bridge

    Hello world

It is searched many Web pages and throughout the Apple support forums, but I still could not understand...

I bought recently Airport Express to extend my Wifi in another room and thus use it for AirPlay. My existing WiFi network is set up by the router, Asus RT - N12 (it is connected to our modem from the vendor to the scale of home - isn't available). I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

It works only when I connect Airport Express via LAN cable to the Asus router and set it as the new network. This is not convenient because it is located near the router and does not provide any additional coverage to our Wifi.

I tried to set up the base Airport Express "Extend existing network." But once set, it REQUIRES connection via cable. To connect to the existing WiFi network, there is NO other choice. This option is missing in the Airpot utility, so I can't select the Wifi to connect to.

In addition, when I connect to the Airport Express Terminal cable to the WAN port (which is our wall of our home modem), you do not find the internet connection for some reason any (while Asus has no question to do).

I'm quite desperate here. I already think to buy Airport Extreme. But I don't know if he will be able to connect to the internet for the same reason. And, it is five times more expensive. Everything else works with Asus without problems and additional parameters. iPhones, iPads, Apple TV, Android phones, Mac Pro, laptops Windows (except old 3G iPhone that says that it cannot connect to the network).

Any ideas where to look for a solution? None of the settings in our modem Asus to allow the airport as bridge recommended? And, above all, WHY is configuring lack the ability to connect to the existing Wifi network and wants to connect via cable ONLY?

    Thank you...

I want to my Airport Express to work as bridge, connected to the existing network and to serve as extension and receiver airplay.

Unfortunately, function of "extend a wireless network" Apple is an exclusive feature that has been designed by Apple for only wireless "extend" the signal of another Apple wireless router.

Or, another way of saying the same thing would be to say that, if you want to extend the wireless network, you will need two routers Apple for this purpose.

In other words, the function 'extend' is not compatible with 3rd party routers, so the only way that you will be able to get the Express at work... or any other router from Apple, incidentally... would do what you did and plug the Express using a wired Ethernet cable connection.  If you cannot run the Ethernet cable, then you can take a look at a pair of Ethernet over Powerline (EOP) adapters to eventually send the signal on power lines the existing AC in your House.

If you only want to use the AirPort Express for AirPlay, it might be possible for the Express to 'join' the wireless network... but the Express won't provide any additional wireless signal coverage by joining a wireless network.
