  • Explorer.exe windows folder keep closing on Alienware X 51 R2 Windows 8.1

    Hello

My problem is quite simple, but also quite a headache so let me give you a situation of portrait in the simplest of ways:

Say I open a folder in Explorer windows, the number of files currently opened is not serious it can go from 1 to 15 and still give me the same problem.

If the folder is open right? I can go and do other things, things... like browsing the net or watch a video. But all of a sudden the closed folder then actually do anything about explorer.exe closes so if I myself copy/move files that would repeal as well. Its as if explorer.exe decides to randomly restart.

Activities that I do that would trigger such an array of thing of the web browsing on any browser, to the modification of files, simply watching a video, even if a file is opened. Sometimes I think that it still can't do something in particular.

This question is a big headache and I had this happen with the default software supplied in the Windows 8.1

    My Info:

    PC: Alienware X 51 R2

    OS: Windows 8.1

GPU: Nvidia GTX 670 & Intel HD 4600

    CPU: i7 4 core 3.4ghz

    RAM: 8 GB

Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks!

Please Note: I don't seem to have this problem on Windows 8, I also had installed Windows 7 on the same pc and have not encountered this problem so, maybe something is not especially nice with windows 8.1.

    Hello

Sorry for taking so long to update this case, I ended up solving this problem, so I'm writing this on a case where someone else has.

I downloaded a utility called SFCFix from this page:

    www.SevenForums.com/.../325168-System-corruption-SFC-Scan-Won-t-fix-them-all-logs-provided-2.html

the normal SFC scan could not solve my problem, but this one did. Nevertheless thank you for your help and time of Naomi!

  • Hi you all, hoping that you will suggest map folding video for alienware Alienware 17

Hi just bought an Alienware 17 with processor i7-6700HQ @2. 60 GHZ, w / GTX Gforce 970 M.  I bought an amplifier and was hoping you can suggest to me a video update to the amplifier card costs around $500 or more.  Also, I have a 4K that TV is there any adapter that I can use to do this with the graphics card.

Just trying to improve and to use the amplifier of the best that I can.

I agree with you that the RX 480 will be a very good option for those on a budget to enter the spec VR level, it certainly won't make the 1070 and 1080.  The 970 m currently in the Alienware 17 R3 is already a decent card for what it is.  The fall is of course the Nvidia Optimus technology that will allow you to use it to VR.  You talk about a laptop that costs a few thousand dollars and an amplifier of graphics that cost even a few hundred.  Recommend a card that costs as much as the amplifier itself seems silly isn't?  People with that kind of money for fancy equipment are not scratch.

The simplest thing I can tell you, is that if you want a card that will occur at the lower level of spec VR and your laptop computer purchase made you to now be broke, and then look in the RX 480, lol.  Otherwise do as I said haha

  • Alienware 15 R2 SSD

I recently bought Alienware 15 R2. I've already replaced Hitachi 7200 RPM HARD drive on port SATA-3 with Samsung 850 EVO 1 TB SSD and performance is very good. Now I need to upgrade 250 GB SSD Toshiba SSD because she is not to score with IOPS / s writing very low the next Samsung 960 2 TB (EVO or Pro). I know he can. But my question is can I keep my Toshiba SSD also as boot drive while making new 960 2 TB of hard drive as boot drive. There are 2 slots for NVME SSD of the form M2 on R2 of Alienware.

On my previous Alienware 14 (version 2013) I had kept boot with OS disk 64 GB my removing of the Raid array, replacing the hard drive 7200 RPM SATA - 3 with Samsung 850 Evo 1 TB that had the program folder files and put on 7200 RPM disk HARD interface of withSATA-2 DVD player by removing the DVD which is not relevant in today's world of readers of the pen , for the 18 months wih past excellent performance...

    Hello

It's totally doable. There are two slots, and all you have to do is to install a new, change the boot order and install Windows on the new drive. Then, you can format the old SSD and use it as a storage device.

  • (R5 Aurora Alienware desktop computer) loud fan noise

Hi, I recently bought a desktop computer Alienware Aurora R5 for the games.

It has graphics GTX 1070, 32 GB of RAM and i7 CPU.

The PC itself is great and if I play movies/music or make internet surfing is very quiet.

But if I try to make games with it the fan noise becomes unbearably high... almost like an airplane taking off.

I updated my BIOS and DELL technician has replaced all fans inside the PC, but they do not at all help.

Are there not in some way you can help me? Thank you in advance!

@MagR5 @Okumam > the final advice of the forum are-in your 30 day return window-, contact Dell & initiate the full return of your PC; When asked the reason for the return, tell them 'it's too noisy. " you don't want a replacement power, as you can imagine he will heal the issue & downtime doing an exchange of guarantee with the same party will strive to shorten your window of return etc. the Rep, now painted in a corner, should be open to a partial refund of $50. If you do it right, you should be able to guarantee a ~ $50 refund, & then shop around for a new power provide or seek a different fix for noisy here. Stroll in your transaction verbal with them, ready to back actually as a last resort, then order a new office with their 850 then go if it suits you while searching for a discount on a new one for your trouble. Most of the owners have now understood that a live chat or selling a can get a discount on a new element, where using their simple online by yourself cannot. Good luck

Recommendation to receive a block of power SUPPLY from Dell free exchange:

I use my Aurora R5 with an i7 7600 and GTX 1070 mainly for RVS with a live HTC and had the same problem with the PSU 460W fan revving up and down all the time without load on the machine (!) and open a folder with Dell online support. In the process, I could prove that the behaviour of the PSU is a systematic failure, which can be reproduced as follows:

If you run a diagnostic self-test on BACK ePSA / bios level (press F12 repeatedly during the startup of your PC) during the game "memory test" PSU fan will do limit it sounds known. To make sure that it is not the CPU or caissons fans you can run the test with the case open, fan power supply sounds diffently.

In Windows 10 If you open "Steam VR" usually the PSU revvs down, but as soon as you close (!) VR steam revvs fan power supply upwards like crazy for at least a minute without any load to the machine.

Dell support yesterday confirmed they got the same systematic results and agreed to share the power supply to my home free of charge under warranty and a technique.

During the debate, I'm going to scrutiny if the swap it 1:1 or replaced by another type of power supply.

If your diet of nuisance is model D460AM, the above remedies / method implies that you may receive a repeat offender if they send another D460AM

  • NEW Alienware command center (2.8.11.0 desktop, laptops 2.8.10.0)

A new version of AWCC has been released, but it is in the Alienware TactX keyboard and mouse software download. A X 51 user who has installed, it told me that the desktop version is 2.8.11.0. I checked that the portable version is 2.8.10.0. I loaded the portable version on my M18x-R1. He has successfully upgraded 2.6.10.0 to 2.8.10.0. Understand, there is no notes version or notes of compatibility of the system on these AWCC. This AWCC has not been tested by us (except my M18x-R1). I just came on when I was exploring the TactX™ software. It seems that the compatibility section to list only the X 51 and R4 designates the TactX™ software. The stand-alone versions of the AWCC embedded laptops and office computers files. When I opened the case to the laptop and it ran on my M18x-R1, it loaded correctly. I have reports that the version of folder Desktop load fine on R4, X 51, Area-51. I'm still waiting for the other laptop owners to test.

  • Alienware Aurora R4 MIO ALX Board question

Hello everyone, I know that this subject and I am about to talk about problem has been discussed over and over again, but I have no where else to turn and do not know how to solve a problem, I have so I'll simplify as much as possible. So basically, I had a case of Aurora ALX of R4 and modified with the motherboard and custom components. I have done all the research before hand and found that particular mother that I would work with the alienware command center and mio Board. I ordered the case and motherboard off ebay I got someone who did the case and all the wires for a living it all for me. I got the case and after a few months rose money to put everything. I finished installing all the operating system (Windows 7 Home premium) all the drivers for the motherboard, my graphics card and set to update everything, including windows. The only problem I encounter is that fans are running high, I can't control the lights, or install Command Center, and the MIO Board is not displayed in my device manager its listed as an unknown device.  Here are the things that I've done so far to resolve the MIO Board.

1 turn off the computer and removed the power cord then the power button which took place a minute with the power cord removed and plugged the power cord and back on my PC, then checked the Device Manager it says its installed driver software but its still listed as unknown.

    2. installed and reinstalled the command center twice, but doesn't not work or do anything, since the jury is not recognized, the software can't find it.

3 opportunity Alienware software 32 bit Diagnostics to run the hardware test to see if the Board of Directors in the list it does not work.

    4. install a driver for Asus thermal control that I thought would fix a thermal error that appears in the command center, but did not.

    5. Finally, tried to change the usb cable that connects to the motherboard MIO Board via a header different usb then made power dissapation thing as described above and still no luck.

So I'm a bit of ideas right now, I can't say if Miss me just one type of software/driver or if I need more recent or not. The Council is still fresh and is not bricked I know, due to the fact that the two lights on the MIO card are still on a bright blue LED one and LED light orange so. Also, when I unplugged the usb cable of the MIO card to the motherboard, fans are silent and all lights work but when I plug it in again and then fans are on max and the lights are out. Any advice/Input would be greatly appreciated.

    Specifications of the computer:

CPU Intel I7 to 4.0 Ghz

    Motherboard Asus Maximus VII gene

    ASUS Nvidia Geforce GtX 950

    16 GB Corsair Ram revenge

you posted in lastnight here 22:00, but I have not my notify til today. Bravo, you seem to have picked a winner & get your lights.

When you have purchased your case & decided to install Windows on a hard disk, this 1st time you booted up, your lights should have at the same time you see your Bios screen & ejected from your dvd tray. Note There are no windows or drivers, just a simple interaction between your gross motherboard bios & mio Board. If I was to eject all my hard drives & turn on my pc, my lights will be lit, my mio Board 'works' without a hard drive. It is hard to say why your last Board was not, however the new works, let's get some software installed for it.

When you started in 7, you might have kept an eye out in your bar to look for the driver past to install, possibly got a desktop "device driver installation" dialog box or similar, as your way of knowing. Since there is no clear indication in your device manager, you can select USB (& peripheral next HID), Action > search the hardware changes, see what he does.

Whatever it is, it was me, I would then try to install CC 2.8.9; If the installation fails (error platform), copy / save your temporary files in the temp folder, it created, that you did the last time. When a CC install fails, Council MIO get flashed with the firmware, so spend 2.7 CC, see what happens.

How should OK, I put it.

Steps back one, pretend that I did not install 2.8.9. If your curiosity is not satisfied on the windows driver, you can disconnect mio usb, power up / power off, reconnect it shows your systray icon & driver dialog box to see if windows install this driver mio; It will take place without connection, next time he "sees", it it will reinstall the driver, which is the raison d'etre. From there, try installing 2.8.9. Consider this an optional step, if when, earlier you scanned for changes on the usb/hid equipment & 'nothing. '

What I will say is just me speaking aloud. I noticed that you do not want to move to a CC under 2.6. However, if a version 2.5 recommended by Justin is what you end up with, but you do not want to go back so far (I suppose that you fear a brick flashing firmware), you can try this:

    • put power off, disconnect mio usb, turn on
    • install CC 2.5 hard disk, do not restart, shut down.
    • Reconnect mio usb, power up.
    • Look at your systray icon / installation of the Office driver mio dialog box.
    • launch CmndCntr 2.5, see if it 'works', lights change color, fans have cruise control manual etc.

It is a workaround, you have installed CmndCntr without the IMU with the firmware flashing & you will be relying on the firmware, it has been flashed with advance by the last owner. If all goes well it is harmony & it all works. If you are satisfied, let it be. You are finished. If for any reason you are not satisfied that, later, you want to try to flash the jury, 2.5 CC to uninstall / reinstall, cross your fingers as we all do, simple as that.

Note: turn off automatic updates of CC

the tips here are to not allow an automatic update, for fear of a brick, do not allow

    Hello

I tried my best to set these for you below. There are several recovery partitions which may have been created when you updated the operating system. Let me know if you have any questions.

500 MB - health (Partition EFI system) - is a partition on a data storage device that is used by computers by adhering to the Extensible Firmware Interface UEFI (Unified). When a computer is turned on and started, UEFI firmware load files stored on ESP to start installed various utilities and operating systems.

40 MB - health (Partition OEM) - The OEM Partition is your recovery partition. That's where the Windows image is stored (this partition contains the Windows operating system, there are no drivers, system and applications).

750MB - health (recovery Partition)-another recovery partition, it probably contains a previous installation of Windows.

109, 63 GB - health (Boot, a primary Partition) - a boot partition is a partition that contains the Windows operating system files, which are located in the folder of Windows files.

450 MB - health (recovery Partition) - another recovery partition, it probably contains a previous installation of Windows.

7, 78 GB - health (recovery Partition) - it looks like the system recovery image that can be used with the Alien Respawn program. You can use this partition to restore the system to factory settings (this partition contains the operating system, the system drivers and Alienware delivered applications preinstalled on the computer).

    Hey,.

My X 51 died and I can't get it to work. Looking for suugestions.

After months of random boot errors and re-formatting my HARD drive a few times it will not start upward. It starts either error that says "no found boot device" or it goes to a screen of "diagnosis" of dell alien ware which basically ends with a message saying either

    -reboot again

-Advanced options > recovery cd, repair, ect.

When I try to use the windows recovery CD 7 he does not see HARD drive (no HARD drive installed, that it is, I reinstalled it a few times too to make sure it was not a coward).

-J' have a HARD drive, usb drive, and when I took out the HARD drive I can access my files NP via laptop, so I'm not confident, that's my HARD drive which * out.

Now, before all this happened, I had to reformat my computer because it was literally so slow it would take like 5 minutes to open a folder (potential virus or something I don't know) and me random boot errors.

  • Cannot restore an Alienware M11x

Hi people, so I have a little problem, and I hope that someone can help out me.

My beautiful new Alienware M11x was delivered last week and after playing with him for a while, I had to install a bunch of things to make a demo. Demonstration at the wire, I looked at all the things I had to uninstall and thought - "Hah!" "Easy - I'll a factory restore the right thing" connected DVD player external, stuffed in the disc that came with the machine rebooted and let it install. Uh oh. I now have an Alienware M11x with a completely standard base installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit there is no driver installed. No application installed Dell. No nice decorations. No request for Alienware. Nothing. Zip fastening. Nada. The only "customization" is an Alienware logo in system properties.

So I called the technical support - it seems that what I has to do is to use Dell Datasafe Local to restore - but this is the crisis - reinstall Windows 7, Dell/Alienware provided Media has removed the repair option in the system to restore the Dell Image

I can't find Dell Datasafe Local to download from the Dell support site - only Dell Datasafe Online. I can find patches for local, but not the actual application itself.

The recovery partition is still there - all the 16 GB of it.

Dell support tell me they will send me a new hard drive, with the original image to this topic, so I have to replace the hard drive. WHAT? Surely, there must be a download of Datasafe Local somewhere on the site of Dell support, or a way to restore the option in the menu of boot/F8/repair. I can't believe that there is not.

Does anyone have any ideas? Please?

Then... I wanted to tell you all that I have solved the problem. For people who told me that I was basically a certain Creek without a paddle, and to accept it and put it down to experience you can save this information, as one day you might have this as well.

So, how you reimage one machine Dell/Alienware, when you have is no longer the Dell Datasafe Local tool, and by reinstalling a generic copy of Windows 7, you lose the ability to recover the image of Dell on a F8/repair of your computer? Here you go...

First of ALL - a WARNING - it just worked for me. It may, or may not, work for you. Whatever it is, it will DELETE EVERYTHING on YOUR STARTUP DRIVE. Don't try this unless you feel comfortable with that. I am not responsible if you louse things up. Sorry, but I just want to say that up front. There are many other instructions for this, and if you don't like the sound of the present, then just do what everyone else has said and reinstall a clean version of Windows and download the drivers and Applications on the site of Dell my downloads. I'm-I REFUSE to believe that something is impossible, until I tried, so me hard on that until I have to work FOR ME.

    YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

    1. Ensure that you always have the recovery Partition. If you do not, you 're screwed, but if you the make, you'll notice everything is hidden. You can check by going into Options of folders and properties and saying to show him everything, including the protected system files. You will see a massive directory structure. You need to do attention to that is x:\DELL\IMAGE where x:\ is the recovery drive - on my machine, it was d
    2. In this directory, you will find a file called FACTORY. WIM - it is a format Image Windows Dell file created after the installation of your machine - this is the snapshot of your hard disk after a clean installed.
    3. Then you go to another computer, go to www.microsoft.com and find, download and install the WINDOWS AUTOMATED INSTALLATION KIT (WAIK) for Windows 7 - DO NOT install the version for XP or Vista
    4. Once installed, you can ignore everything, part of a file - IMAGEX. EXE - find this file--there will be three copies of it--one in a directory of a in a 'ia64' 'x 86' directory, directory of one in a "amd64". For my machine - an Alienware M11x - you need to copy the amd64 directory - I know, I know, the machine has an Intel processor, but the ia64 directory is for Itanium or Xeon systems. Believe me, it's one in the amd64 folder, if you try to use one of the other two it will tell you just that they do not work.
    5. Copy the IMAGEX command. EXE on a USB flash drive file - you can now uninstall WAIK on the other machine if you want.
    6. To return to your Dell/Alienware machine. It reboot and remain deaf F8 until the Windows Startup menu appears. Choose "repair your computer".
    7. The system will load in an environment Windows (called Windows re or "Windows recovery environment") and ask you to select your language and then log on. You MUST log in with an account that has local administrator privileges.
    8. If it pops up saying that it found problems with your boot options and what did you want to fix, say "No" - you're going to annihilate the start anyway, so it's okay
    9. Keep clicking Next until you get to a menu with options like "Startup Repair", "System Restore" Windows Memory Diagnostic","command prompt ". In a moment, we'll use the command prompt, but first he must know what drive letters WinRE has allocated to your partitions then choose option that resembles "Windows PC Restore" or "restore the System Image.
    10. You will see a dialog box that he cannot find backup locations. Press Cancel.
    11. Click the Advanced button.
    12. Click "install the driver a" to continue - we are nto going, so don't worry, but it will open a dialog box where you can see the drive letters.
    13. On Dell Windows 7 machines, it seems to be two discs, labeled "OS" and "Recovery". Make a note of each drive letter. On my M11x in WinRE drive as d: (the 'normal' Windows boot drive") operating system has been a drive and drive C: is the recovery disc - is behind what they should be, but stick with it. You can cancel it now and keep hitting cancel until you return to the Menu.
    14. Choose command line
    15. Paste your USB key with a copy of IMAGEX. EXE in the machine and wait until Windows re to recognize. Now just keep typing in the drive letter (C:, D:, E: etc.) until find you it. On my machine, it's G:
    16. Now, type G:\IMAGEX to APPLY C:\DELL\IMAGE\FACTORY. WIM 1 D:\      IMPORTANT: make sure you SELECT THE RIGHT DRIVE LETTERS. THEY MAY BE DIFFERENT ON YOUR MACHINE. THE SYNTAX IS THE G:\ MINE IS THE PLACE WHERE THE IMAGEX COMMAND. EXE EXECUTABLE IS, THE C:\ IS THE DRIVE MARKED "RECOVERY" AND THE D:\ Was in MARKED "OS" - IT MAY BE DIFFERENT ON YOUR SYSTEM
. ONCE YOU GO PAST THIS POINT YOU ARE * CLERK * AND REGARDLESS OF THE CAR YOU CHOOSE WILL BE * DELETED * AND OVERWRITTEN WITH THE ORIGINAL IMAGE.   YOU. A. SUMMER. HAS PUT IN CUSTODY. PROCEED at YOUR OWN RISK
  • When you press ENTER, the machine will begin to decompress the image and copy it to the drive you have selected. In case you're wondering the '1' in the command line is to specify the number of images, as WIM files can contain several images.
  • You can get warnings like decompression. Yes, I did. I am brave (or stupid) and simply ignore them and crossed my fingers
  • When it's over, which for me was 10 minutes, type EXIT and press ENTER, then remove the USB key, unplug the other drives, you can be connected and press RESTART.
  • If it worked, you will start (with the correct drive letters - C: will now be the boot drive ) and Windows will run through its OOBE (box experience off) making Setup for the first time again
  • . Congratulations - you did it.
  • Buy now something like Acronis True Image or something else that makes the backup images and make a backup of your machine if you do not have to tear your hair works this out without any help from the printer Dell 'support officers' who do not have the slightest idea how to do that, promise you they will send you things and never go there.
  • Hope that helps someone. He has been the education, and I want to thank those of you who have commiseration or ideas. I hope that it is something that you can all add to your arsenal of solutions to problems that you hope you will never need to use

  • Need to reinstall Windows 7 on 2013 Alienware 17

I bought this Alienware 17 for my teenage son. It is a model with Raid and a cache mSata 2013. It arrived yesterday. Within hours, he had problems. Most of them began after the installation of wires for a drawing tablet. Even lost wired ethernet. Tried to roll back the drivers, then a system restore. Still does not work well. Tried a factory reset and although Windows showed me the restore partition that I couldn't get it by F8 at startup. Decided to do a clean install of Windows 7. I started from in Windows and it would therefore be a recovery. When you restart the computer it gave me the BSOD suggesting wither a virus infection or hard drive problems. Probably couldn't find the Raid driver (I guess) and gave me this error.

Tried to do a system clean boot from the windows disc. The upgrade does not work, just brings me down the rabbit hole for the BSOD.

If I go for the clean install, I wonder for driver disk (s). If they are on resource drive I can't access it during the installation of Windows. Only Raid drivers I found online at Dell are for older models, and I hesitate to try them. On this page.

I have google and reading forums for hours searching for answers.

I'll call tomorrow if I can't understand it.

    TIA

I ended up calling support and was able to get the right RAID driver. Which was a bit worrying for me was when you download and run the driver TSRI, he's trying to install the driver. I did that in Parallels on my Mac. Bad hardware so it has not installed. What I didn't realize at the time, is that the drivers I needed was unzipped in a folder. Once I have copied on a USB key, I was able to install Windows 7. I installed all the chipset driver and was able to use the resource CD after that reinstall the rest of drivers. Windows Update ran and everything works fine, now. Also installed good anti-virus and malware (teenager!).

I'll wait a few days updated drivers from the Dell support site.

Overall, this is a beautiful machine and I am glad that I was able to take advantage of the price at Woot.com.

  • E2200 Killer NIC issues w / 18 Alienware

Killer e2200 Gigabit Ethernet Controller in my laptop Alienware 18 reported the following in Device Manager:
"This device does not work properly because Windows cannot load the drivers required for this device. (Code 31)

    {Operation failed}
    The requested operation failed. »

I uninstalled and reinstalled the latest drivers and have also run the application of cleaner Killer, but it does not solve this problem. For this reason, I can't use the interface cable on my computer network.

    OS: Windows 8.1 Pro

I got to the bottom of this. Do not know why, after almost a year this suddenly stopped working, but it seems to have something to do with the drivers and Windows 8.1 more precisely.

I uninstalled all the Killer software and drivers in the Windows Add/Remove Programs utility, rebooted, run the utility "Killer cleaner" and rebooted again. I then used a seagoing pilot plant to a folder in Device Manager (using the 'Disk'). I had to do this for the E2200 NIC and WIFI of 1202.

Apparently, it is a problem common to many (not only Alienware) customers who have computers laptops and desktops with Killer E2200 desktop that have been "upgraded" to Windows 8.1. See the link in the post #15 in this thread in the MSI Forum for pilots that I used to solve this problem on the Alienware 18.
