So, I recently discovered that you can now get a GTX 1080 specifications (however I have yet to find a retailer or a site that sells only the GPU). Any link to a Web site or a retailer would be nice. With such a high performance GPU I'll have a better processor as well. But I'm afraid that my laptop cooler will not be able to control the heat. Obviously, I don't want to fry my computer so confirmation on the amount of heat to a better GPU and CPU would be nice as well. Thermal paste is recommended? In addition, it would be best to get an electronic store to install components or would it be easier to install them myself (I don't trust myself enough)?
Any help at all would be appreciated.

    Classes for GPU and CPU:
    NVIDIA GTX 770M
    Intel Core i7-4700MQ

The largest manufacturer of notebooks MXM format video cards is Clevo - they provided systems to Dell for sale like Alienware and provide Sager, Falcon Northwest, AVA, Eurocom and others.

You'd probably wise to see if Dell frees a GTX1070 or 1080 to your system first - there is no guarantee it won't work at all, and with GTX970 MXM cards still sells for more than $1,000, you can bet the 1070 years will be $1,500 or more each, is not a negligible amount of money to play on the upgrade.

Eurocom sold kits of MXM modernization with the equipment required for building Clevo systems - they are trying to GTX1070 if you have $1,500 or more waiting in the wings.

I got this pc last month and its great but I want to upgrade the video card and POWER supply, it came with a 730 gt and im sure that my power supply is 300 watts if I want to get a new one, this is the model

I want to know if I can upgrade these components, I do not think that the graphics will fit in the case (impossible to find dimensions anywhere but its likely 8.5 inches long), but I don't mind if I need to get the DVD player to use

If so im probably going to wait a few more months

It is long 9.5 ".  Cut a 4.3 x 9.5 cardbaord model and try that. It should slide under the DVD drive. You should also disable Secure Boot. No question about the warranty.  It concerned only the original installed components.

  • M18x R2 CPU/GPU upgrade help

Lately I experienced an annoying problem.  I go to play a game like age of empires III, which shouldn't be a problem, but after a few minutes, the screen goes black and the only way to make it work is to reboot by pressing the power button.  My M18xx R2 has had some problems before, so I recently replaced the discs and did a clean installation of Windows 7 Pro.   I thought that might be the GPU?

I ran stress tests on the CPU and the GPU via Support help and all this goes well.

My processor is a Core i7 3740QM and I have 2 gtx 675M popular with sli.

1 can I upgrade to GTX 680 M without worrying about updated drivers using the or overheating?  Meaning is it plug and play?

    2. What CPU can I upgrade to that would be taken and play. I do not overclock.  I thought Intel i7 3840QM.

    Thank you

Here's the Alienware-tested (read: plug-and-play) GPU upgrades for the m18xR2.

    • HD 7970 m
    • GTX 680 m

Something more recent requires some work.

I would not upgrade your CPU if you don't plan on overclocking. The i7-3840QM is a good enough in itself.

  • (Redirected) Help w / Alienware area 51 desktop computer - no post after upgrading to 10

    Hey people,

I wasn't sure if this was the place to post, thought I would give it a shot.

My alienware 900 mouse seemed to be working/not working.  I've updated the drivers from support.Dell.com and no help.  I then went to the driver download section.  I already had the A10 bios.  but the version on the site of Dell, said that bios A10 was updated in may 2016, so I thought I would try to update the bios.

I got the bio "completed successfully" to update and then restarted my computer by guest.  Since then, the computer won't post.

My steps of troubleshooting so far:

-disconnected the supply, held down the power for 30 seconds button

    -reset the cmos battery

-lit, tried to hit f12 repeatedly

-lit, tried to hit F2 repeatedly.

Still no luck.  I'm out of Warrarty on this unit.   I called Dell, has transferred 5 x, finally they me transferred to spare parts and a card mother refurb replacement is $351... That's a lot for a 5 years old machine.

so... (1) any chance there is a troubleshooting step to do, I have not tried?   I don't know how to reset the EProm

    (2) replacements less expensive motherboard out there?  too many choices on ebay to find out which. I have the service tag #, but who can not tell the motherboard there is part number.

    (3) is there an appeal from Dell - as was the update of the Bios A10 somehow stopped my work computer.  its an expensive system and I'm regretting upgrading the Bios.

    Hoping to get suggestions.

    Thank you.

  • Alienware m18x r1 gpu controls upgrade

Hello everyone, its my first time here and for the first time have an Alienware, its awesome! In any case, I have an Alienware m18x r1 with double graphics nvidia gtx 560 m and an Intel I7-2680.  I want to move to the gtx 580 m and I was wondering I need to buy something else besides that the gpu as the cables or heat sinks?

Yes, a 2960XM or 2920XM works beautifully in your M18xR1 or the other of these XM processors will be better than any CPU mobile non-Extreme, including latest processors Haswell. In fact, the obsolete 2920XM, 2960XM, 3940XM and 3920XM processors will be even better than the more recent processor Extreme 4930MX of Haswell. Intel Haswell i7 desktop and mobile processors are poor overclockers and they can't keep up with Sandy Bridge or Ivy Bridge i7 CPU because of the temperature and the limitation of the problems. Upgrade your M18xR1, you'll have a machine to equal or exceed the performance of 18 new Alienware similarly spec'd, in order to make this upgrade makes sense. You can also achieve the massive advantage of having the ability of a system completely unlocked BIOS flash, which is currently not possible with the new machines Haswell-based.

You'll need to buy a better CPU heatsink to the CPU of XM support. Order a 3-pipe heat sink M18xR2. He will do a great job and fits perfectly in your M18xR1. Dell Reference number is 0MXJ5.

I invite you to upgrade to GTX 680 M SLI instead of 580 M SLI. While 580M is definitely better than 560M you will blow a lot of money on a relatively minor performance increase. The SLI GTX 680 M upgrade works perfectly in the M18xR1. Do not use heat sinks 560 M unless they have a sticker showing they are sized for 100W. If they have a sticker indicating 75W, you will run into problems with a 100W GPU. (580 M and 680 M are the two video cards to 100W). While the heat sinks 560 M adapts physically, I do not recommend their use. However, GTX 580 M sinks 100W of heat works really well for 680 M and 780 M video cards.

Here are the reference numbers for Dell that you would need for this upgrade:

    Part number Qty. Description
XHW5W 1 Fan law, graphics card (if you currently have a single GPU and GPU fan)
GDMRG 1 NVIDIA SLI Bridge Cable
CPCXD 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 M 2 GB vRAM
    Y48TK 1 Right to heatsink GeForce GTX 680 M (100W)
    5G1VJ 1 Left heat sink GeForce GTX 680 M (100W)
3MHHT 2 Support NVIDIA GTX plate (can be supplied with heat sinks purchased new from Dell)

    XM3C3

    1

330W Delta AC adapter (required for CrossFire or SLI Systems)
Note: Dell P/N F0K0N is the same and will work perfectly as part replacement for XM3C3.

GTX 580 M is outdated and not powerful enough to handle some of today's demanding games and I think that you will be ultimately not satisfied with the results. The GTX 680 M has already been tested and verified 100% compatible with the M18xR1 even if this configuration is not supported by Dell/Alienware. (They can tell you that it is not compatible. Don't believe because it is absolutely not true. 7970 M and 780 M video cards have also been tested and they are all compatible with the M18xR1.) The GTX 680 M is more powerful that any new series 700M with the exception of GTX 780 M. GTX 680 M SLI cards is almost as well as GTX 780 M SLI in the new 18 Alienware. I do not recommend the upgrade to 780M SLI unless money is no object, because they are very expensive video cards. If money is no object, then go with 780M SLI is a no-brainer.

The increase in performance 680M offers more than 580 M is simply phenomenal... We're talking around a 100% increase in performance, and I beg you to consider this upgrade instead of 580 M SLI. If Dell/Alienware will not sell you video cards of 680M to do the upgrade for your R1, simply buy all the rest and then go get the Clevo GTX 680 M cards MXM 4 GB of Eurocom. Clevo cards work well in the Alienware machine.

If you buy a new CPU and GPU from Dell sinks, they will come with thermal pads and a 'paste' (TIM) for previously applied die surfaces. The Dell interface material thermal (TIM) is excellent and you will not have to buy any thermal paste for the CPU and the GPU die surface. If you buy used heat sinks, then I highly recommend to use IC Diamond thermal paste.

  • Alienware m17x GPU R4 fried, need help in the search for replacement

My M17x wouldn't turn on last week, so I took it to a computer repair center, and told me my GPU is fried, it's an Nvidia Geforce 675 m.  The told me to order a new and they would install it for me, after about 3 hours of scouring the internet for help, I could not find any Web site I am sure that sells any GPU for laptops.  I read a post earlier to buy the Detroit form alienware, or buy an aftermarket GPU for this, but I couldn't find one or the other.  Where can I buy the same GPU, or an upgrade that would always work in my laptop?

  • Alienware CPU & GPU Upgrade

The CPU is also extensible on Alienware (mid-2013) 17 (ADMIN NOTE: maintain the label removed by privacy policy >)? (He has a graphics processor Nvidia 860 m 2 GB and an Intel i7-4710mq).

Also if, for example, I get the 880 m (I know that other messages on this computer, it is checked for this model. Not the series of 900 m, unfortunately. :/ ) I should do it myself, or dell offers a service to upgrade components? I would rather not mess up my computer if I can get a 880 m.

So, basically, should what options I have for cpu and gpu upgrades and how to approach it?

If I can still buy these things, where would I go? Dell just email sales support on this?

  • Alienware Area 51 R2 memory upgrade help

    Hello

I recently ordered an Alienware R2 with 16 GB of memory. It is still being built / shipped. I have decided to upgrade the memory up to 32 GB, however, I can't find any information to see if there are homes of free memory opened on the computer when it comes with 16 GB? Could someone tell me?

In addition, because I don't have yet a series number, I couldn't find the memory upgrade to this unit on the Dell Web site. Could someone tell me a reference number for the upgrade of memory? 2 x 8 GB

Thank you very much for the help!

You will probably get a better response if you re - this post in the forum of Alienware Club where people hang out.

  • Can the alienware 18 860 m GPU be upgraded to 980 m?

Purchased a new AW18 a year ago. Due to budgetary constraints at the time where I opted for cards of 860 M double. I'm now trying to determine if I can pass to 980M cards and that therefore what would be needed. As in will it take new radiators and a greater power brick?

    • 330W POWER supply
    • the 3-pipe heat sinks (you should already have, but check just to be safe).
    • MXM GTX 980MS (8 GB); You'll find them on ebay, eurocom and Rjtech. Otherwise, there is a seller over at notebookreview with GTX 980ms.
    • Reference Dell vBIOS
    • BIOS A12 (can be obtained from the Dell Support Site)
    • Some pads thermal and thermal paste (and get good also).

And that's all. Things thermal are cheap (even those who are good), but are not the GPU. 1 GTX 980 m is more powerful than your double GTX 860 m.

  • HP Pavilion p6206uk Desktop PC: HP Pavilion p6206uk desktop PC ram upgrade help?

    Hello

I want to know how I can improve my ram to, it says on the specifications with a 32 bit OS 4 GB but it does not say how I can get with a 64 bit so if anyone could tell me that would be great.

    Hello:

The specs say also that the maximum amount of memory you can install in each location of your PC is 2 GB, and since there are only two slots of memory, which is the maximum amount of memory, you can install your PC is 2 x 2 GB regardless of 32 or 64-bit.

HP tends to put this notation to OS 4 GB 32-bit on the set of their specifications.

  • Repost - Alienware x 51 Question upgrade video card

Sorry for spam... Accidentally, I posted in the dell forums.

    Hello world

So, with cars of which will be released in March I thought to upgrade the video card in my Alienware X 51.  Unfortunately, I get some conflicting signals that I perform an Internet search on what cards will and work habit.  I'll definitely with Nvidea but where the concern comes is food.  My pc has a 330w power supply and I want to make sure that everything I buy will work correctly on this subject.  Also, there is a bit of a problem of space because I think that video cards up to 9.5 inches fits.  Correct me if I'm wrong on either, but I was wondering if you may be able to offer a video card for me.  I'm looking in the high-end 400.00.  Any help would be great!

    If it helps I currently GTX 555, i7-3770 w / 16 GB of ram, windows 7

Correction: you must have a 330w PSU to run a high range GPU, and you should have a power supply r2 card to launch the GTX 900 series (I hope not for the GTX 960, though).

R2 Power Board can be installed together with a card mother r1.

  • No AMD GPU after upgrade to win 10 - Satellite-S50-B-15 q

Hello, I have a fairly serious problem on a satellite (new) S50-B-15 q

After the upgrade to Windows 10 and re-installing Windows (including all the necessary drivers) Amd Radeon R7 m260 graphics card does not appear
I tried to install drivers from amd available on the Toshiba site, first, then some directly to amd. I had a hard time because the driver installation (kept getting the "package installation failed" error), but even now that they are 'installation', the amd radeon does not appear in Device Manager (and not at all either no longer works).

All I get in the graphics cards is the integrated gpu (Intel HD Graphics 5500), I tried to launch a program to use graphic resources to see if he would "pass" to amd, but this is not (it was a piece of advice found on a forum)

I have already spent a lot of time on this problem and would really appreciate help

  • Z400: z400 upgrade help

Hi I have an old z400 who was literally given to me for free. I want to upgrade, but I don't know if the parts I want would be compatible. After looking around I discovered that only certain PSU, cpu and gpu are compatible?

    Here are some quick specs:
    CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT
    Intel Xeon W3520 @ 2.67GHz 32 ° c.
    Bloomfield 45nm technology
    RAM
    8.00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 533 MHz
    Motherboard
    Hewlett-Packard 0B4Ch (CPU0 PROCESSOR) 58 ° C
    Graphics
    2470W (1920x1080@60Hz)
    1023MB NVIDIA Quadro 600 (HP) 44 ° c.

ignore the temperature directly, I copied and pasted of speccy.

So I guess I still have the stock psu that is 475w.

I want to update the graphics card and processor, which means I may have to upgrade the PSU as well. maybe even the motherboard

Ive been looking for decent gpu and CPU and I want to move to an i5 4460 and has 750 ti.

I don't know if they are compatible but I am of course in the hope that they are. also ive been watching this food called Delta DF-650BB, because someone said it might be compatible. idk. also should I get a new fan? 58 ° C sounds like a lot for the motherboard.

Im very new to this so any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

    AUQA,

The z400 uses the excellent Xeons LGA1366 and while the original specifications don't list them, there are results on the pass mark for 4-wire Clippers W3500 and W3600 6 - core, 6-core more X 5600 series 4 and 6-core Xeon. There are a wide range of some very good processors.

The i5-4460 mentioned is for the taking of LGA1150 and therefore would not work on this motherboard, but a good choice of CPU would be the 4-core Xeon X 5677 @ 3.46 3.73 GHz - $1500 new, now about $60.  In my system LGA1366, X 5677 made a side CPU 7133.  Only a modern clock speed and single-thread performance is not bad = 1518. There is also the X 5687, who is 4-core @ 3.6 GHz 3.86. On the PassMark, a z400 with a X 5687 has a CPU of 7373 and mono-thread of 1577.  The current W3530 has an average rating of 6370 CPU which is not terrible, but the brand of single-thread of 1261 is a bit on the low side for any level of visualization work.

There are 24, z400 on the pass mark by using the Ti of 750 GTX with a best score of 4 d being 4322.  NVIDIA presents the GTX 750 it for systems with a minimum of 400W PSU, while and the number of results in the pass mark must say it is not necessary to change the power supply.

On any system of this age, updated the BIOS. In addition, the RAM, which is listed on 533 is likely to be DDR3 1066, while the X 5677 and other higher end of the DDR3 1333 CPU consumption. The z400 is triple channel so the best results will be to use the RAM in sets of three modules of the same size.

An SSD wake things up considerably and I would say a Samsung 750 EVO. Regardless of the z400 uses as it is uprated CPU cooler is the one to use.

    See you soon,.
